Surgery and weight loss
This may be of interest to some. I just returned home from an emergency appendectomy with some complications. Spent 4.5 days in the hospital eating hardly anything and being on IV the whole time. I thought, "Hey this should give me quite a spurt downwards to my goal.." alas, I only lost 1.2 lbs since my last weigh in. The…

New research on sprints
Have a look at this article that Scientific American is pointing to. It is telling us that short 30 second sprints burn more calories than 30 minute events on the treadmill... what do you think? http://www.the-aps.org/mm/hp/Audiences/Public-Press/For-the-Press/releases/12/37.html…

Free Kindle Book
For those who have a Kindle or use Kindle reader on your computer, check out the free book. I haven't read it, so this is not an endorsement, only an FYO about a free book. And I love free books! It's simply called Hungry.. about a man who lost a lot of weight http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008RCQAE8/?tag=afbm-20

Elliptical vs treadmill
I can go at a pretty good clip on a treadmill for 35-45 minutes, but I am embarrassed to get on an elliptical machine. My thighs begin to burn badly to the point of turning my quads into a quivering mass within 2-3 minutes of working on that machine. So I avoid the elliptical, but I see others on those machines going like…

Knee problems
I don't have a pain in the butt.. but I do have a pain in the knee. I am 61. I was hoping that doing treadmill work (fast walks, no jogging, no impact activities) would work the issue out. I have been doing this for about 30 days now, but the knee seemed to take a turn for the worse. I am afraid it is going to begin…

Sciatic issue and running
I would like to get into jogging.. but thus far I cannot, and I don't know if I ever will be able to. Walking fast is okay, but soon as I break into a jog, my back limits me. 12 years ago, I had a herniated disk.. never treated it, only used chiropractors and osteopaths. I have had chronic back pain since. And I have had a…

My TDEE and my concern

I am trying to stay around 1200, but I do eat back my workout burns.. so I am closer to 1500 per day on workout days.I am ALWAYS hungry…

Strength training
Question: Why doesn't MFP assign caloric values to weight training drills? I enter my strength training exercises, but it doesn't adjust my net calories for the day.

Cardio/burn and weakness
I recently joined the Gym (Life Fitness) and have been going regularly. On the days that I have more time, I go full of determination that following the cardio on the treadmill, I will do some resistance training as well to tone up the muscles. Inevitably, by the time I am done the treadmill (Pulse sustained at 135, 30…

Snacks that help with the hunger
My biggest problem is the hunger pangs. If I tough it out, will they go away? (I am on 1200 cals a day). Are their some snack foods that are particularly good dealing with that? I heard cottage cheese does that trick pretty good. Any thoughts?

Another Newbie
Found the App, I like it. 61 yr old male, have decided to get from 19o lbs down to 150 or lower. I will definitely need help at keeping the hunger at bay. I have never aimed at anything quite so ambitious.. Werner
