Why is my HRM so different from my gps pedometer??
I am baffled. I went for a vigorous walk that was mostly flat terrain. I have a GPS pedometer app on my phone that takes my height and weight into account. I have a Polar FT4 that has a chest band and also takes my height & weight into account. Tonight, I took the HRM & Pedometer on my walk to see if the calorie burns were…

Help me understand something
Help me understand something that confuses me because I fail at science… Let’s just use random numbers. Say Sally eats 1200 calories a day for 6 months, mostly healthy low calorie foods. She loses the weight she wanted to lose and then she slowly ups her intake to 1600 a day (or whatever # maintenance is for her new…

Are you really a size .0008.7? Are you?
I have a new pet peeve. Girls who brag that they are a size “insert tiny size here”. Are you? Are you really?? Hmmm. Curious. I wore a size 4 dress on Monday. I wore a pair of jeans in a size 12 Tuesday. Yesterday, Wednesday, I wore a skirt that was a size “medium” with a shirt that was a size “large”. Today I’m wearing…

Hey tattoo people, a question for you...
Getting my first tattoo on Saturday. It’s fairly small and going on my upper back, near my shoulder blade. My tolerance for pain is pretty high so I’m not too concerned about it but I am curious as to what to expect. Be brutally honest, how much pain can I expect to be in and how long does the pain usually last for? What…

Zombies, Run!
Does anyone use this app? I've read a lot of great reviews of it and thinking about picking this up. It's like $8 and I have an iTunes gift card I got for my b-day last year so the $$ isn't an issue but just wondering what people think of it? Thanks!

Diet soda
I drink 1 to 2 cans of diet soda a day, as well as 8+ glasses of water. Everyone tells me that the diet soda is just as bad as regular soda. I personally can't stomach regular soda, it's way too sweet, so I've always just had the diet kind, even as a kid. So other than the sodium, what exactly is so bad about diet coke?…

Tattoo people, I'm bummed... :(
I’m really bummed right now. I was SO psyched for my tattoo on Saturday and I just got a call from the shop that the artist had an emergency come up and has to reschedule. I can only get in on Saturdays due to my day job work schedule and I have so many ferret shelter events coming up over the next few weeks that between…

How did your pet make you laugh this week?
Let’s have some laughs today. Tell your funny pet stories! So the other night, as I was standing checking something on my phone, out of the corner of my eye I see Hansi try to climb onto a small wicker table where a bag of food was (key word being "try"). He almost made it when his apparent hunger (despite having 3 bowls…

What is your diary set to?
Is your diary public, private, friends only or locked with a key/password? And why? Mine is locked with a key. The reason is that my "net" after exercise is a lot lower than 1200 and 1. I don’t want to be a trigger to any ED folks who may be in recovery and 2. I got sick of people telling me I was going to drop dead from…

FitBit or BodyMedia Link?
I’m torn between a Fitbit and a BodyMedia Fit Link. My primary concern with a device like this is accuracy and ease of use. From what I can see, from reviews I’ve read, they both have pros and cons. FitBit Cons: Not as accurate, according to some reviews Have to take extra time to calculate time spent driving/riding the…

What do you think of this for Halloween?
So Halloween is a pretty big deal in my house. Halloween itself is my wedding anniversary and also, me and a friend are hosting a huge party a week beforehand at my friends house (which is my old house cause my friend & I used to be roomies). When I lived there, my friend and I threw huge parties every Halloween until I…

Figured I'd post this here too. :) Looking for opinions...

What is your daily goal for sugar?
15 grams of sugar, MFP?? I ate a medium banana and a handful of almonds (approx 8 unsalted almonds) and I am now 1 gram over my sugar goal for the day but still obviously have a lot of calories to go. I’m not really a major sweet tooth. I don’t eat candy etc. So I’m not totally sure what an actual good amount of sugar is.…

Can anyone suggest a good HRM?
Looking to purchase a HRM. Right now I just use a pedometer on my iPhone and I've found it to be accurate but a PITA to keep on me when I exercise. I'm new to HRMs and just wondering what is a good make and brand? Price is not a concern if under $300. Thanks!

Why do my nutrient goals on MFP change every day?
Just curious, and maybe a dumb question, but why do my goals for things like sugar and carbs change daily on MFP? Even on days when my weight remains the same?

Pasta from Scratch
Hey guys, My spouse is making fettucine from scratch (well he already made it, he's cooking it tonight). I can not seem to figure out how many calories would be in this. He literally starts with flour etc. and makes the pasta and then cooks it. I don't plan on eating any more of it than I would a non homemade pasta. Maybe…

Help me with measurements...
I am puzzled at how to take measurements for myself. I’ve watched videos, I’ve read websites and I honestly have no idea if I’m doing it right. Initially to get my waist measurement, I measured a few inches above my belly button the slimmest part of my waist right below the ribs and I got a 34 1/2. But I have a huge roll…

*screams*
Dear nasty man sitting down the row from me, hacking up phlegm every 5 seconds: You clearly have some sort of throat disease that I don't particularly want to catch. Seriously, either seek medical attention or stop clearing your throat every 5 seconds or I'ma come over there and just start pelting you with lozenges. You…

Runners/Walkers... Blisters?
I did an 8 mile walk yesterday, which felt GREAT except for my dumb feet getting blisters. I was wearing my New Balance walking shoes. Seriously, I was not tired at all, and my feet themselves didn't hurt. I just got blisters which are killing me today. Any suggestions on preventing them in the future?

Ready to give up
I am having an exceptionally bad day. I gained back 2 lbs, even though I’m eating under 1200 calories a day. I literally haven’t gone over 1200 calories in 2 weeks and drinking 8+ glasses of water a day and limiting sodium. Why am I gaining weight?? Then I fell down the stairs in my house and my leg is killing me. Then my…

Obese pets & pet nutrition
Just curious, how many other people here are really careful about what they will feed their animals? Do you read their labels as closely as you read yours? What brands do you prefer? Is your pet obese or getting there?

Looking to meet some new people. :D
Hi all, I’m looking for like minded people to be friends with on MFP. About me: I’m a 35 year old animal lover from the Boston area. I’m primarily losing weight to improve my appearance and I do prefer the look of thin. I’m pretty blunt and honest about that fact (and that can be a turn off to some people, I realize). I…

Does wanting to be thin = not valuing overweight people?
Does anyone else run into people who think they are somehow “mean” for wanting to be thin? I had a woman say to me on Facebook the other day that she was “surprised to learn that I am so ‘anti-fat’”. I’m not anti anyone. I think everyone should be comfortable in their own skin. If you are comfortable being 200+ lbs and…

1200 too low?
Hi all, I'm new here. I am new to weight loss in general. My backstory: I was skinny my whole life literally until about 3 months ago. I am on some anti-depressents (prozac, gabapentin and hydroxyzine) which had slowed my metabolism to next to nothing and I went from 120 to 130 during the start of this year without any…
