food weights or measurements/when to measure?
The bag of chicken says 120 calories for 4 oz. Is that raw or cooked? Bags of frozen veggies list amount and calorie. Is that before or after cooking. Both make a difference in how much.

New runner/1st run today-questions
I am a new runner. Age 51. Last September I couldn't walk 3 miles without it hurting. Now I can run 3. I though the race today was a 5k. But realized last Saturday that it was a 10K. I have run this week, 3 miles, 5.5. miles and 6 miles. So I know that I can do it. But very nervous. Never have run a race before. I know it…

Salt addicts, going cold turkey. How did you do it?
I have decided to finally give up my salt. I am an addict and I admit it. I use it on way to many things and use WAY to much on those foods. Some foods taste really disgusting with out salt to me (tomatoes, cottage cheese, eggs, potatoes). I have previously tried cutting out salt on all items but those few. But I always…

Polar FT4
This question is for anyone that owns a Polar FT4. One of the instruction sheets that came with the watch/strap says that the strap should be washed in a washing machine every 5th use or every use if used in a pool with high clorine. The other, briefer instruction sheet in the same package states that the strap should…

Seriously? Only 40 extra calories a day?
I have been counting calories since mid August and doing great. I have been on 1200 calories a day with a 1 1/2 lb weight loss per week and pretty much hitting that every week. But decided to change it up a bit (based on what I have been reading on the boards). I changed my weight goal to only 1 pound a week. Here is the…

Foot cramps and swimming
I have been swimming for about 4 months. Swim for 40 minutes. Generally water is 80-84 degrees. My problem is I get foot cramps. Not every time. Some times one foot, sometimes the other. Occasionally both. Stretching out helps a bit to get rid of it. But not always. Occasionally just have to give up on that swim. I tend to…

HRM question
I bought a Mio HRM this past weekend. The sales rep at Scheels recommended it over the FP. It seems to work great when I am dry. But tried to use it swimming and it wouldn't record my heart rate. Takes it at the wrist. Didn't want one with the chest band. It is good to 30 meters in water. So not sure why it won't work. Any…

New runner struggling. Need advise.
I am a very new runner. Have been actually running for 4 weeks, 2 to 3x a week. I have been getting the 5k in and average 14:30 in the last week (that I was able to run). Slower at the begining. I run at 5:00 am. I am on 1200 calories and work out other ways besides running. I swim 2-3 times a week (40 minutes non-stop).…

Day off of working out question
Based on recommendations for my fatigued legs I am taking a day off to give them a rest from Zumba, running, swimming and eliptical. My question is... Would it be ok to lift (arms only) or do a yoga class (with slow stretches)? Or is an off day a totally off day?

New runner question?
I have never been able to run in my life. Body just wouldn't cooperate. I am not to the point that I can (and do) run. Today was my 6th run and I do 3k (3.2 miles) each time. I may not be fast. Started at 16 minute mile and am already at a 13.3 mile. But my question to all of you runners... When do you consider yourself a…
