does anyone else get bloated after eating?
hopefully this post isn't TMI ;) but it seems that ALL food makes me a little to a lot bloated. even just water. it's so annoying because there's really no fat in my midsection, but after i eat i totally look fat, a "food baby" if you will. i've tried taking digestive enzymes before each meal, i think it helped a little…

eating after exercise... and right before bed?
which is more important: eating after exercise, or NOT eating right before bed? unfortunately for me the only time i can work out is after work around 7 pm. i'm at the gym usually till 9, get home around 9:20, then after i put my stuff away, prepare my food, get all my ice packs situated on my shins/knees (shin splints) by…

at home/no equip. exercises equivalent to heavy lifting
what are some examples of this? i'd like to get more into lifting and less cardio, but i don't have any equipment at home, which is where i do the majority of my workouts. i'm probably going to invest in some 20 lb dumbbells but that's about it. i've been doing pushups: the normal kind, pike, chaturanga (well, attempting…

hemp protein powder
i've been using hemp protein powder in smoothies now for a couple months and i've really been loving it. it's great for your body and for the environment, and a really good alternative if you're allergic to dairy or are just trying to avoid whey/casein-based protein. health benefits include: - it's a complete protein,…

everything in moderation? i respectfully disagree
i keep seeing this phrase thrown around all over the place. "it's ok if you ate a quarter pounder from McDonalds last night, everything in moderation!" "don't feel guilty about eating that Snickers bar, everything in moderation right?" i don't really understand this frame of mind - why would anyone want to put anything…

started the 17 day diet yesterday
so 2 days in and i feel really good! i have SO much more will power when i'm following a specific menu plan, as opposed to just doing my own thing. i've been following the suggested menu plan for cycle 1 so far exactly and my cravings for junk food are 100% gone, i have practically no desire to snack during the day and i'm…

eat less, sleep less?
i've noticed that i consistently wake up a lot earlier if i eat 1200 or under calories the previous day. if i go a little overboard on my cals, especially those late night meals after the gym at like 10 pm, i will sleep foreverrrr. but i've really cut down on my calories lately (and have been eating insanely healthy,…

i want to exercise A LOT buuuuut...
my appetite is just out of control! it's so annoying. and though most everything i eat is very healthy, i eat a ton of calorie dense food like nuts, avocado, bananas, etc. i don't even count my calories anymore cause it's so time consuming and such an arduous process. back when i barely exercised and ate a lot less than i…

does anyone know about liquid fasts/detoxes?
i don't have a juicer so that's a little hindering, but i finally found some 100% cranberry juice from trader joes so i think i'm going to do a cranberry juice detox for a week or so. how long should a person generally stay on a liquid diet to experience real detoxifying effects? i'm googling it now but i f anyone here has…

lean people - help i need workout suggestions!
basically my workout routine for the past FIVE MONTHS (with no results, hence the angry caps) has been work out really hard and eat a lot. well it's not that i've seen no results, but i'm not at all where i'd like to be. i lost some inches and am seeing a little muscle definition, but i really want to shed the small layer…

shin splints, knee pain - how serious is this?
i've been working out hard (6 days a week) for 5 months now and am feeling dull pains in my legs. i started icing my shins for 20 mins each night after a workout and that pain has mostly gone away - but now my knees are starting to feel a little funny! kind of achey. it's not something that through the course of the day…

amaaaazing vegan/whole grain/no oil brownies
can i just say. HOLY YUM. i found this recipe on a blog i read, adapted it slightly, and was rewarded with some seriously delicious and healthy vegan brownies. i'm hesitant to say they're sugar-free because i used some brown rice syrup, but that's at least a complex, minimally processed, slow to enter your bloodstream…

i think i need to eat more lean protein - suggestions?
as a vegan for the past 5 years i'm having some trouble incorporating lean protein into my life. i have started eating meat and seafood again since i've started strength training. i don't have an issue with eating meat in general, i just don't care to support the industry, so i've been making sure the meat i am…

people with only 10 or so pounds to lose... i need tips!
so since i've joined this site i've noticed a few people mention how difficult it is for people who only need to lose 10 or so pounds, you're not kidding! i've been working out 6 days a week for 3 months now and i really haven't lost much. i did lose about 6% body fat and i've lost inches so it's not like i'm not seeing…

too much peanut butter!!!
so i made the mistake last night of snacking on an apple and peanut butter... which sounds harmless enough, but this was no ordinary peanut butter, it's Peanut Butter & Co's Mighty Maple, and it is heaven in a jar. i've been seriously restricting myself lately because i tend to go overboard with it, so last night all that…

how many of you use a heart rate monitor?
have you noticed if you tend to burn more or less calories than this site (or the machines at the gym for that matter) estimates?

ESE - how important is it to consume absolutely no cals duri
i've been doing the Eat Stop Eat program for a couple weeks now, and i've noticed how weak i feel when i drink nothing but water for 24 hours. and there's a BIG difference in my energy level if i just drink a few ounces of soymilk or orange juice in the morning. is it completely imperative that i consume no cals whatsoever…

calorie deficits
i think i'm just a little confused about this phrase, is this the number of calories i haven't eaten? like if i have my calorie goal set to 1210, which i eat, then i burn 900 at the gym but i don't eat those exercise cals, would my deficit be 900?

sugar, dang!
so i recently noticed i could change what settings appear in my food diary, like the protein, carbs, sodium, sugar, etc. so i recently made sugar visible and geez, i go over on my sugar every single day! even the day a couple weeks ago when i was sick and all i had all day was some orange juice, chicken broth and soymilk!…

no burned calories calculated for strength training?
hi - i'm brand new to this website, and i've been trying to keep track of all my food and exercise pretty diligently, but i did notice that whenever i enter any kind of strength training in, the site doesn't adjust my number of calories burned. like today for example i did a crap ton of burpees with shoulder presses, which…
