What can calisthenics do for you? Let me show you.
One quick note – PLEASE do not turn this into a debate of weightlifting vs. calisthenics/bodyweight strength training (it is not at all my intention to imply that one is better than the other). The “lift heavy” mantra is very popular on MFP, that’s obvious – but for those of you who don’t necessarily have heavy lifting…

My one year fitversary pics!
Today is my one year fitversary! For the last year I have dedicated myself to self-improvement, particularly health and fitness and doing the best I can to make sure my family is healthy and active. I am at a spot right now where I never thought I would be in my wildest dreams, and I truly owe it to good ol’ strength…

2013 Goal Reached and My Success Story - 118 Pounds Lost
I am so happy to be writing my success story. I hope that this serves as inspiration or motivation for others who have struggled for so long, like I have. I've been overweight or obese since I was a child. See this chubby cheeked little girl? This is the oldest photo I could find of myself - I guesstimate it to be about…

Strange feeling while lifting free weights today
I did a back and bicep routine today, curls and hammers and such, alternating with pull ups and chin ups. I usually experience a pretty good pump while working out, but today my muscles swelled almost excessively. My skin felt really tight and stretched and then I started to feel a bit of numbness in my forearms, like…

Why to not lose 1.5-2 lbs. a week with 15 lbs. to lose?
I have about 15 more lbs. to lose. What are the reasons why it is recommended that someone should only lose .5 lb. per week at this point? Muscle loss? I do mostly strength training and have adequate protein intake. I'm surprised that I'm still losing so easily this close to my goal weight (knock on wood). I'm comfortable…

Be honest... am I going to look like this forever?
When I was obese, I carried my weight pretty disproportionately. I would say about 90% of my fat was distributed between my hips, thighs and arms - with a relatively small amount in my stomach and other areas. My arms and lower body are now a saggy mess. I do weightlifting and all that and have a good amount of muscular…

Need something explained to me
I read something on the forums the other day that said calculating calories based on raw ingredients is incorrect because the cooked ingredients likely have more calories. For example, a cooked sweet potato has more calories than a raw sweet potato. Not because it was cooked with oil or anything like that - because the…

FINISHED! My results (with pics).
I don't really have any intro / anecdote to write. JMBR was a great program and I enjoyed it. I will definitely be doing another round in the future. I have maybe two pieces of advice. First, you are NOT too fat / out of shape to do the moves. Second, don't resign yourself to doing the modified versions of moves. Try the…

One year progress pics - 87 pounds and going!
My sweet little baby girl turned one year old today. And although this in itself is cause for celebration, it has also been one year since I made a resolution to change my life. Being pregnant forced me into a doctor's office, where I had not been since I was a child - it forced me to look at the scale and my vital stats.…

Always tempted to skip the cardio...
I enjoy the strength workouts so much more than the cardio, I would really rather just not do the cardio and do two extra strength workouts a week instead. The cardio sessions are just kinda "blah" and I definitely don't burn as many calories. What do you guys think?? Should I just stick it out and do the cardio because…

ONEderland and 60 days of Jillian Michaels
I reached ONEderland today and thought I would post some new progress pics. For the last 60 days I have done nothing but Jillian Michaels workouts, and love her or hate her, you can't deny the results. I will post more pics when I'm done with JMBR! =) Beginning of 30 Day Shred - 219 lbs. End of 30 Day Shred / Beginning of…

Anyone starting June 3rd?
I just finished 30 Day Shred and I am pumped to start Body Revolution... I will begin Monday, June 3rd. 90 days seems like forever compared to 30 days with the Shred, so I would love some support! Post here or add me and let's keep each other motivated!

My 30 Day Shred Results wtih Pics
The 30DS was awesome. I love the program and I love Jillian. I started April 19th and took at least one rest day each week with a couple of unplanned rest days in there. Some days I did two levels back to back if time (and my energy) permitted. My best advice would be to just stick with it - I started to get a little…

Success Stories - Overweight Since Childhood?
I am 24 and have never been a normal weight, that I can remember. Even as a very young child, probably 1st or 2nd grade, I was overweight. I am almost scared to lose weight... I'm afraid I just won't look right after being overweight for so long. Does that make any sense? It's like, venturing into the complete unknown,…

How do you cream your coffee?
I don't miss a lot of the things I've given up to become healthy, but man, I sure do miss my creamy and sweet coffee. I was shocked when I realized I was consuming 500 calories a day just in coffee creamers and sugar (I have a few cups every day).. I am not a "black" coffee drinker. I like a coffee taste, but super creamy.…

Body Revolution vs. Insanity
Is there anyone out there who has done / tried both of these programs? I am half way through 30 day shred and I am trying to decide what to do next! What are the differences? I love Jilian, but it sounds like insanity is a bit tougher perhaps?? Is it mainly cardio or do you use resistance? Is Body Revolution like a longer…
