Is 30 Day Shred with 150 left to lose safe?

Does MFP use your weight to calculate calories burned?
I noticed that when I logged 30 minutes on the elliptical MFP estimated my calories burned much higher than one of my friends calories burned during 30 minutes on the elliptical. How fast did you lose at first? Those who had 100+ to lose)
I have about 175 to lose, and while I realize it will come off slower at the end (as it should to be maintained) I also realize that for someone starting out at 340, things are going to move faster than 2 pounds per week at first.
