Day One Again - big, gay, and trans
I am not new to MFP. I've been using this website on and off (mostly off) for the better part of nine years. Nine years! I have been struggling with my weight my entire life - in sixth grade my parents offered to pay me for every pound I lost, which only drove me to overeat in secret. In the last nine years I've bounced…

Food Processor
My wife surprised me for my birthday with a food processor! A real one, not the rinky-dink two-cup thing we have now. I'm so excited! I'm planning to give it a whirl (har har) this weekend with a batch of fresh salsa, but I'm looking for recipes, idea, and inspiration! Tomatillo salsa is definitely on the menu when they…

First meeting with a dietitian
Hello forum friends :) I've got my first meeting with a dietitian coming up - by the way, for those in Canada Loblaws offers free dietitian services included guide walk-throughs of the grocery store, all you have to do is email them and set up an appointment - and my thoughts are kind of everywhere! What should I be…

Resources for post-surgery diet
Hello friends  I'm looking for some good resources on a typical eating plan for post-bariatric surgery. The day-to-day post-recovery, really. Surgery is an option for me, but before I make the plunge I want to make sure that it's sustainable. I know that bariatric surgery will have an impact on my hunger signals,…

LC Vegetarians
Where my low-carb vegetarians at? Please, I could use some fellow bacon-free people to bemoan the carb-heavy 'standard' vegetarian fare. What do you eat? How do you make it work?

Misfit Flash vs Fitbit Flex - advice on specific metrics please!
Yes, yet another thread looking for advice on which fitness tracker to get. I've been doing my research and reading a thousand threads here and elsewhere, and I've narrowed it down to the Flash or the Flex, based on price point and functionality. But. I still have some uncertainty, so I'd appreciate some input from users.…

612T Tempo Treadmill
Hoping that there's someone with experience with this treadmill. My mom is giving her old one to me (yay! Free treadmill!) and I was super-stoked because I can do my C25K without being laughed at by pedestrians or freezing my nips off. But I started to do some research and I quickly discovered that this is on the lower end…

I DID IT!!
I ACTUALLY RAN ALL NINETY SECONDS! And then - then I did it again! I had this huge dorky grin on my face as I was chugging down to the sidewalk to "I'll Make a Man Out of You" and the timer went off and I was still jogging. I'm so happy. I can actually do this!

Prayers or rituals for health/weight loss
If you're like me (probably not, I'm way more casual about my prayer than most recons), then you pray for just about everything. "Dear Lug, I swear to ****ing You if you don't stop giving me ideas for new knitting projects to start while I still have six to finish . . ." Have you incorporated any specific prayers or…

Using the 3DS as a pedometer?
Hey! Some of you might know that the Nintendo 3DS counts your steps while it's in sleep mode (and then stores a record of the day and translates them into coins that you can use to "buy" in-game boosts). Since I already have a 3DS (and can't really afford a FitBit or something similar), I'm thinking of just keeping it in…

HELP! Jerks broke my rack.
Hello! I started doing Stronglifts about a week ago. I'm unemployed right now and want to use my time productively, and my condo has a gym/weight room, so I figured that it would be ideal. I used to do some weight lifting a hundred years ago in high school but nothing since then. Only thing is, my weight room is small and…

New Food Blog
I hope this doesn't bump up against the rules against advertising, but I just wanted to share this new food blog Cooking Simplicitea: http://cookingsimplicitea.tumblr.com/ It's recipes that are tea-based, but the two people writing it tend towards low-calorie, low-sodium, and gluten-free cooking. There's going to be…
