I'm not a chef, but what I found really helped me with nibbling and snacking and grazing while cooking was making it a rule for myself that I have to sit down while eating. While eating anything. If I want to snack on the veg that I'm dicing for a stir-fry, I have to sit down on the kitchen floor and eat them. It does take…

I was just browsing at the library too. I went through a spell where I read a ton of books on weight loss, but as soon as I dived into Beck I knew this could really be sustainable. Writing out the cards has been great - my favourite lines from her work are about wanting one problem or three problems (the original problem,…

My mom and I are also Beckolytes! After decades of trying to diet, finding Beck was the turning point for both of us. I'm down about 70lbs and my mom has reached her goal weight.

Hello! If you're going in for bariatric surgery, be sure to check out the groups, there's some great support there. Here's the one I belong to: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/637-gastric-bypass-vsg-lapband

What I've done for sushi in the past is look up various options in MFP and find one that seems to be somewhere in the middle. I usually budget 50 calories per piece and treat it as a once-in-a-while treat - don't sweat it too much. Enjoy your dinner!

What books did you read? I'm always looking for recommendations!

It's been two brutal months of stress eating for me, I feel your pain. It's so frustrating when it's happening because you know you shouldn't be doing it but you can't stop. And granola bars - what a racket! Might as well just eat the chocolate bar, it's only a few more calories and a hundred times more satisfying!

Chek out the 100+ lbs to lose group, you might find it really helpful. Members maintain an "accountability thread" where we just talk about challenges and successes and our feelings about weight loss, it's really helpful for me at least.

These are fantastic:

I started again at 360lbs, and I totally get your frustration. I've been bouncing between 300 and 360 for my entire adult life. Some days I feel like I'm just never going to shed this weight, no matter what I do. It's just such a big number. I found a really great group of people on this site, you might find some…

Check out the Intermittent Fasting group, there's lots of good info there on 16:8 and other fasting plans.

There's a fantastic group for people looking to shift more than 100lbs, you should check it out - I find it a very supportive and inspiring place! http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/3322-100-pounds-with-no-surgery

Hi, I'm De. I lurk in this group a lot. But I can count on one hand the number of times I've posted. I'm pre-op, at the very beginning of the process. Probably still looking at another year and many pounds before surgery. I'm enrolled in a great program at the Toronto Western Hospital, but I like lurking in this group. It…

Making this for dinner: https://www.budgetbytes.com/2013/10/garlic-parmesan-kale-pasta/ Butter, garlic, parm? Heaven. Don't forget the chili flakes, they make it.

We are really fortunate that we have these resources available to us through the government, and I want to take advantage of as much help as I can. If you're in Ontario, you can also meet with a dietitian through Loblaws! Totally free, they're registered dietitians who work out of the bigger Loblaws outlets all kinds of…

Hi! I'm in Ontario too. Toronto, actually. I'm pre-op in the bariatric program at Toronto Western Hospital, so i hope I can give you some region-specific help. OHIP eligibility is determined by BMI. You are eligible for RNY or VSG (not lap band - not covered) if your BMI is above 40, or if it is above 35 and you have also…

I'm looking into binge eating disorder because I'm real struggling with it myself. I hit up the library for some resources - there's even Overcoming Binge Eating for Dummies, if you can believe it.
-
Roll on over to the 100+ pounds group, we're here for you! I'm looking at 170lbs myself - by 35 would be a good plan.
-
I was just going to pop in to give the same recommendation as @TheWJordinWJordin - the 100+ lbs group is the most supportive positive place on the site! And feel free to add me, I have 97 lbs to lose by next summer - 170lbs to lose total.

This PDF from the Toronto Western Hospital bariatric program might help: http://www.uhn.ca/PatientsFamilies/Health_Information/Health_Topics/Documents/Eating_for_Health_after_Gastric_Bypass_Surgery.pdf

Did you watch the sequel as well? Part of it was exploring why one person had a lot of success at keeping the weight off, and someone else put it all back on. Things like having a support system and being able to make lasting change in your life. Maybe give them both a rewatch, as the first one clearly resonated with you.…

Bonus kids. I love that phrasing.

7-Eleven cherry cruller. 660 calories in one donut. I think I actually cried when I found that out.
-
Fingers crossed for everyone in this uncertain situation. I'm once again grateful that I'm in Canada with all that universal healthcare. RNY and sleeve are covered 100% by the government.

I dropped 6.6lbs last week - definitely thought it was weird. Could just be a whoosh like other people describe. One week isn't too concerning, but if you suddenly start dropping too fast for a while it would be something to bring up to a doctor. In the meantime, congrats on the loss! And on keeping it consistent until now.

@ OP: Check out this group, pretty active, lots of different experiences: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/637-gastric-bypass-vsg-lapband

Watching this thread with interest, I have many of the same questions.

Hie thee to the Low-Carber Daily Forum. Tons of resources for keto, tons of people who are actively maintaining it (I am not one of them).

Brown sugar cinnamon grilled pineapple - totally delicious.

You can boil eggs in a kettle if you're allowed to have one, which is a good and cheap source of protein and healthy fats. Instructions are here, I do mine this way even though I have a kitchen.
