back surgery looming, just want to get healthy again!
I have a ruptured disc at L5-S1 and have a date for a discectomy surgery October 29. 8 months of excruciating pain, handfuls of pills every day, excessive eating, consults and all the other fun stuff that came along with this will hopefully soon be coming to an end! I had come within 3 lbs of my 40 lb weight loss goal when…

healthy weight after back surgery?
I have completed pre-op for back surgery, now I'm just waiting for 'the call' to get it done. I am actually contemplating 2 options by 2 different surgeons: discectomy or spinal fusion at L5/S1...any advice, if you've gone through either would be appreciated! But mostly, I am concerned about returning to pursuit of…

disc extrusion at L5/S1 - looking for friends who relate
I was just diagnosed with a disc extrusion at L5/S1 and am now on the waiting list to consult with a back surgeon. Just wanting to connect with others who can relate to similar disc & nerve issues, sharing exercise and therapies that help, support in general. I've looked for some threads/topics but can't seem to find what…

iron supplements making me sick?
I started iron supplements about a month ago at the advice of my doctor. While I have been fighting a cold/flu for the last couple of weeks, I'm starting to wonder if my sensitive stomach is partially due to the iron. Did some research online, thinking maybe I shouldtake it at a different time of day than at breakfast with…

baking with protein powder?
has anyone had success in baking muffins, cookies, etc. with protein powders? I just added some to a favorite banana bread recipe and it doesn't warrant a repeat...thankfully my teenage boys will have it et in no time!

menstrual pain & exercise
You hear all the time that moderate exercise during menstruation can alleviate pain or other menstrual issues, but how much is 'moderate'? I have heavy bleeding, cramping, light-headedness - is it still ok then, or should one wait a few days?

rolled foot injury
About a week ago I rolled my foot while power walking (stupid, loose-gravel country roads!). It didn't really hurt at the time and i was able to keep going. But in the last few days the pain has increased - it's on top, to the outside, not the ankle - waking me up at night. What did I do?

Is it menopause or?
Been at this weight loss thing for 7 months-ish, slow & steady, 1 lb/week. I do still consider the initial step of counting/reducing calories to have been a big change, however, to how I ate my whole life long, so it stands to reason that my body was in shock (maybe?). I'm almost 44, dealing with peri-menopause for years…

Intruder alert!!
I do a lot of walking outdoors, and I've gotten some attention from some neighbors who want to walk, but need the motivation of a walking partner, so sort reluctantly I've agreed to try it - once in awhile. First one friend, then another noticed and wants in, too. But I LOVE walking by myself, I don't need the spurring-on…

're-setting' after significant weight loss
After each 10 lbs of loss, I was asked by MFP if I wanted to re-calculate to see if my caloric goal should change, and I opted for 'no' because what I was doing was working for me. Is this necessary for continued success? My goal is 1 lb/week, which I have done successfully for 23 weeks, but if it stops working is that an…

just ignore 'friendly' sabotage?
A dear friend who loves her sweets and whom I used to love loving sweets with seems annoyed that I pass them up more often than not now. I don't mind if she wants to indulge, but she is annoyed that I won't join her and always makes some kind of remark about it. I treasure her friendship too much to make this issue a…

vitamin and mineral absorption issues
I have consulted with a micro-analyst and was told that my body does not absorb vitamins and minerals very well. I believe it. I once did a stint of doubling the recommended doses of my supplement cocktail and it did make a difference, but eventually got tired of the expense of it. I currently take recommended doses of:…

lose weight = lose hair?!
Since I have been eating less, exercising more and losing weight, I have been losing a lot of hair too! It reminds me of the excessive hair loss I had after each of my pregnancies - can anyone relate, or know what to do about it?
