Why it's smart to let toxic people have the last word.
An interesting phenomenon I've noticed a lot in this forum is the 'taste' some people have for arguing with other posters. It reminded me of this article I came across awhile back. And as I know others here have experienced it with some people in some threads, I thought I would re-post here. Here it is: Arguing with a…

French children don't snack
Interesting article on snacking and the difference between cultures. French Kids Don’t Snack: Surprising Kids’ Food Habits From Abroad By Karen Le Billon French kids don’t snack. Hard to believe, but true. They don’t snack at school, or in their cars, or in their strollers. I never saw a single French child rummaging in…

When should you not drink water?
Apparently during mealtime. Perhaps we should drink wine instead. Drinking Water with Meals can Impair Digestion By Elizabeth Walling Most of us have heard it a hundred times: drink eight glasses of water a day to stay healthy and hydrated. And while hydration is genuinely important for our health, if you're…

Fast food lovers
I'm curious, mostly because it is incomprehensible to me, but what is it you love about fast food? Because if you told me you love a good hamburger and french fries, I get that. But would you really take a fast food version over a really high end quality version from a really good restaurant or home cooked? Is it really…

I thought I would start a thread for book recommendations that we could refer to when we have extra reading time. I'll start. In Defense of Food, by Michael Pollan - a staple in my opinion. Paleo Diet and Crossfit
I see these two things mentioned a lot. I'm wondering what they are exactly, why people do them, and why so popular. Thanks! Btw, my question is serious. I have some small understanding of paleo, but don't get it completely as I'm not sure cavemen didn't consume these things because they had some superior nutrition…

Stove popped popcorn
For my fellow popcorn lovers, how do you stove pop your popcorn? I've been using organic safflower oil. Just a tad bit, like a tsp. for 2 tbsp. kernels. Questions to ask a personal trainer
Can anyone offer advice on how to interview a personal trainer? I would like to find one to teach me proper form in weight lifting. I'm willing to invest about a 4-6 month period with one once a week. I don't want someone who just pushes me though. I want someone whose concentration is on proper form, even if it takes…

Like minded friends?
I've decided to try the support thing here...not cause I feel like I need it to lose the extra pounds, but because I like to talk about food. :-). And I'm interested in like minded friends on here. Over 40 weight lifting
I am a woman early 40's in decent cardiovascular shape, but no weight lifting for 10+ years...only yoga and pilates. I like working out, but don't like weight lifting. It bores me. Same old, same old vs. Mucho variety?
I was reading a portion of a Jillian Michaels book and she said something like, most of us eat the same things over and over so once you know the calories you can stop counting constantly. Now I like Jillian Michaels, but I have to disagree. I eat a huge variety of different foods and am into trying different things. Then…

Pick your body
Just for fun, what person does your body most resemble, whose body would you like it to most resemble, and who do you think has the most attractive body to the opposite sex?
