Same old, same old vs. Mucho variety?

I was reading a portion of a Jillian Michaels book and she said something like, most of us eat the same things over and over so once you know the calories you can stop counting constantly. Now I like Jillian Michaels, but I have to disagree. I eat a huge variety of different foods and am into trying different things. Then I've looked at some peoples diaries here and I see the same dishes days in a row. So, maybe I'm an anomaly. I think (aside from breakfast when I vary a little less) every meal for lunch and dinner I've had for the last month has been different.

What do you all think? Variety is the spice of life or give me my tried and true favorite dish?

I like variety. I don't think there's anything wrong with that as long as you're within your daily cals, etc. I fall into a rut sometimes at lunch because it's quick to make and snacks because I just don't know what else to eat. But, I try to vary my meals as much as possible. I don't want to get bored.
