Important read about "starvation mode"
First, please note that I am *not* one of the researchers that wrote this paper in 2007 (link a few paragraphs down), nor am I any of their references. I am just a geek who wants to lose weight, and will gather any and all information on the topic I'm currently interested in. I also want to help my friends and fellow…

The 300 milestone
My weight has been fluctuating a lot lately, mainly because of my determination to get under 300 lbs. I drop water weight unintentionally (perhaps a little bit intentionally, per my subconscious) and it comes back. The overall trend is still down, and has remained so since starting this effort. I hit 300.5, then 299.7,…

continued from here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1077746-starvation-mode-adaptive-thermogenesis-and-weight-loss?page=9 So, I copied your post here to hopefully continue this interesting conversation in a more appropriate place. I'm about to go work out, but I really hope we can discuss further. If nothing else,…

Top 10 MFP community falsehoods
I get really tired of reading all of the broscience and bad information passed around here as if it's going to help someone. I thought I'd compile a list of things that irritate me the most. Feel free to add your own. I'm writing this post because IMHO this community *should* be a place for people to come and get support,…

Stupid-face gym people
The rules of this board won't let me use the words I'd like to... but I want to vent about tonight's gym experience. Hopefully you can relate. So, the wife and I are using one of the squat racks, just starting our sets. There is an older but obviously very dedicated man next to us. He's half my size but lifting twice the…

Started Stronglifts 5x5 today
The wife and I started this new strength training program today. Stronglifts is really just another 5x5 workout, but there is a free iOS app for it, and a free excel spreadsheet that helps you track your workouts, including the weight calculations for each week. Only one day in, but I think this is our new routine! Even…

Something we all need to read and study
Since the "gen-pop" forums can be hard to read at times, I thought I'd post a link to this here. It is chock full of good information. It's a better version of the same sort of thing I wrote up last night... my Big N Tall brothers, please do yourself a favor and read it :)…

15 lbs down since joining MFP
since I prefer the kindred company in this group to the masses elsewhere, just though I'd post up my latest milestone. It's not much, but there it is. 317 when I joined, 302 this morning... I expect it to fluctuate up a bit but I should be under 300 by the end of this week. Hard work starting to pay off :)

TDEE-20 for Big and Tall guys?
Of course when I didnt care about what I ate, it was incredibly easy to go over my TDEE. That's why I'm in this predicament :) . Now that I'm trying to log everything end keep food intake in the right proportion to calorie expenditure... I'm finding it difficult to eat the right things and still get to the magical…

21 again before 35
Hello! I'm a 33-yr old man in North Texas, starting again the journey of physical self improvement. I've made a commitment to myself to be at least at the same weight and body composition I was when I was 21, by the time I turn 35. When I started this, my goal gave me about 15 months to lose about 110 lbs of fat and gain…
