72 hours until surgery! Question on water please
In less than 72 hours I will have my surgery done! I've been working at this for a year. I know many people don't get this chance and I've very appreciative. Question: 1. I know the stomach is swollen after surgery but is the difficulty in getting water in related to fullness, pain or both? Or something different? I am…

Starting BMI under 40?
I am scheduled for VSG surgery on November 11. I'm excited but nervous. My BMI is 38, I'm 242 pounds and 5'7. I expect to lose slow but I don't know the definition of slow. Everyone is different I do understand but wondered if there is anyone with a lower BMI that can tell me their story? Also it is true you can't lose…

What does it feel like to love yourself?
I am member of other groups on this site and have no problem posting but for some reason words fail me here. Maybe it's because this is the place where I know that I am stripped raw. Stripped of pretense. I can't go any low that I feel right now. My heart is heavy and I have nowhere to turn. I truly know what it feels to…

Question on weights
Hi. I am lifting weights 3 days a week right now. I really like my DVDs that are mostly cardio mixed in with some light weights (think cardio sculpt). I'm using 3-5 pound weights with those work outs. I'm doing this about 3-4x per week. Am I impacting my 3x per week lifting routine by doing that? I really love the extra…

Here is why I measure and weigh my food
Just a simple example. I've been reading on here for a long time that weighing food is key to weight loss. I always took for granted what the pre-packaged labels said. But I've been testing it lately. Today I opened a can of tuna that was "drained" tuna. It said I would yield 4oz of tuna for the can. Well when I weighed it…

Body Pump or heavy lifting?
Hello. Thank you in advance for answering my questions. I have quite a bit of weight to lose and am adding weight lifting to the mix. I am doing cardio 4-5x per week now for about 1/2 hour. I read a lot about "lifting heavy". To be sadly honest lifting heavy for me is 25lb dumbells for deadlifts and 10lb dumbells for curls…

Cardio with higher resistance vs weights
I know this is a silly question but I simply don't know the answer. I do strength training 2-3 times a week but the feeling I get from working my legs with weights is the same as when I have cranked up the resistance on the elliptical. Same benefit? Thank you.

Any groups for people who want to lose sizes?
There are many groups out there to lose x pounds but the scale is just one measurement. I prefer the measuring tape approach myself. I've been such a slave to the scale and obviously that is important but I want to expand my view of defining successful weight loss. Are there any groups where people are focusing more on…

Check your emotions at the door
Had a freak out with my trainer today about the amount of calories he wants me to eat every day and it really reminded me of how much work I have to do in my head space about how I need to eat to lose weight. He told me to "check my emotions at the door". I mean really, it was ridiculous, he is totally right. I'm lifting 3…

What is your power song?
What is your one go to song or two that you really to play to get you totally moving when you are working out and will give you that extra burst of energy? Mine are Give it Away Now by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Smells like Teen Spirit by Nirvana. I know, I'm not current but it pumps me up!

Hey Fat Girl
I read this blog post when I started my weight loss journey. Then I started running outside when I weighed 253 pounds. Hey Fat Girl Yes, you. The one feigning to not see me when we cross paths on the running track. The one not even wearing sports gear, breathing heavy. You’re slow, you breathe hard and your efforts at…
