For today Aug 12th
“A theorist without practice is a tree without fruit; and a devotee without learning is a house without an entrance.” – Sa’di “For today: It has been said that no one is too “dumb” to work the twelve-step program, but there are some who are too smart. I pray to God to keep me from being too smart.” Love this ^^ It’s all…

What are you grateful for today?
I am grateful that my neck injury isn't serious, so I'm able to move my body today! I'm also grateful for OA today, because it keeps me sane one day at a time!

For today Jul 14th
You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself “I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.”…You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” – Eleanor Roosevelt “For today: The help I need to deal…

Daily Reflections - Jul 9th
I was reading the daily reflections today (see below) and this one hit home for me. Just the other day while getting ready for work, I looked in the mirror and made a comment about how many things that I would change about my looks and body image. My hub came up behind me and said, “Be grateful for your imperfections,…

For today Jul 7th
“If all pulled in one direction, the world would keel over.” – Yiddish proverb “For today: Am I helping those I sponsor find what works best for them?” Funny how today's reading (as all reading) is relevant to what's going on in my life at the moment. The reading also touches on what brings us together, our similarities,…

Happy Independence Day to my OA buddies!
Holidays such as these are a definite test to my abstinence. I'm out in the high desert camping, and grateful that I have a phone/internet signal! Today I will be liberal in my eating but avoid trigger foods so that I remain abstinent. The best part is that I'm in charge of a few meals, so no biggie. Exercise shouldn't be…

For today June 12th
“We know what a person thinks not when he tells us what he thinks, but by his actions.” – Isaac Bashevis Singer “For today: I may fool myself and others by my talk, but my illness cannot be fooled.” Yep, it’s all about walking the talk. I’ve encountered guru-esque people in the program who are abstinent, but are examples…

Staying on track is a challenge!
I know I’m not alone in this, but I’ve been working harder than normal to stay abstinent these past couple of days. It’s almost like my binge foods have been calling me, louder than usual. I know when things are hectic and stressful that it gets worse. I really need to take care of my spirit today and reach out to you…

Binge free, one day at a time!
How is everyone doing today? The forum is pretty quiet, more so lately. I'm checking in to claim that today I am binge free and that I'm praying for another day of abstinence. I hope all of you are doing well and please check in to claim your abstinence for today!

For today May 27th
“The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind.” – William Blake “For today: I stop in the middle of an old answer, and old habit, an old way of thinking and ask myself: “Is this really the best way, or is there a better on?” It’s been a little while since I posted, so I…

For today May 20th
“The profoundest affinities are those most readily felt.” – George Santayana “For today: My joy in recovery is multiplied in direct proportion to the extent to which I share it with other compulsive overeaters.” This reading reminds us that we are not alone in this disease as we can truly relate to one another. If we are…

For today May 12th
It's been a little while since posting these, but they help me stay focused, so hopefully this helps you too. “A straight path never leads anywhere except to the objective.” – Andre Gide “For today: Thank God I have a path to follow that leads me to my objective: a life of sanity and usefulness to myself and others.” This…

Nauseas after four weeks on Metformin
I've been taking Met (1000mg 1 x daily) for a few weeks now and was fine. I've heard that the symptoms are usually in the first week, but I hadn't experienced any symptoms. Now four weeks in, I feel light-headed and nauseas. Has anyone else had this experience, or have suggestions in getting through it? Thanks, Felicia

Reversing Diabetes World Summit 2014
Just thought that I'd share a really cool 12-day summit that's happening right now (online podcasts). It consists of Doctors, scholars, fitness experts, and real people speaking on various topics that pertain to people like us. It's all about the science. They even throw in an e-book titled Core Nutrition to Prevent and…

“No single event can awaken within us a stranger totally unknown to us. To live is to be slowly born.” – Antoine de Saint Exupery “For today: a flower takes a season to grow, as tree long years to mature. Each growing thing, myself included, has a timetable for growth.” I really enjoyed the reading today! It reminds us…

“A little madness in the Spring is wholesome even for the King.” – Emily ****inson “For today: Spring fever doesn’t necessarily come according to the calendar, but if it pops up I may well consider indulging in a little wholesome “madness” of my choosing.” I just love this! It reminds us that we shouldn’t take ourselves…

I'm hungry, or am I?
I just ate and I'm feeling that mental hunger, which means that there's something going on that I need to address. I've been taking codeine cough medicine, which has been messing with my mental state, and I fear that it could lead to a binge. I've only been on the cough medicine for a couple of days, but decided to…

Primal Blueprint 21-day body transformation
Ok, so I claimed to not get involved in challenges, such as Whole30, but I’ve been going back and forth from the SAD to Primal, and I’ve done some serious damage to my body because of it. I’ve had the book for a while and read some of it, so now I feel it’s time to put it into action. This challenge is necessary to get my…

For today Apr 23rd
“Grief drives men into habits of serious reflection, sharpens the understanding and softens the heart.” – John Adams “For today: I can learn much that is of value from grief by not running away into the food” I’ve been away from program for a few days, so it is refreshing to read this. We must stop and stand still and let…

“They do not love who do not show their love.” – William Shakespeare “For today: As I practice the principles of this program, my capacity for love expands.” This reading talks about love not being able to flourish in the presence of obsession, which really hits home for me! How can I show love to my fellow OAer, not only…

“There is no ache more Deadly than the striving to be oneself.” Yevgeniy Vinokurov “For today: To be myself is to say what I mean, make decisions without fear, and give up pleasing people just to gain approval.” I have never really been a people pleaser, I was more the opposite, but I can somewhat relate to today’s…

Eliminating food groups?
I posted this elsewhere and didn't get a response, so I'm putting this out here to my Paleo peeps... So I got into a disagreement with my sister, a nutritionist and RN, who says that it isn't a good idea to eliminate an entire food group from my "diet" and that my eating should reflect all food groups. I know she is…

“Time ripens all things. No man’s born wise.” – Miguel de Cervantes “For today: My Higher Power offers me a way to live free of the obsession with food. I am willing to do today’s footwork and wait for the results.” Lately, I’ve been feeling restless, irritable, and discontent about the immediate gratification that I tend…

For today Apr 9th
“Always shun whatever may make you angry.” – Publilius Syrus “For today: To the extent that I can accept my own and others’ shortcomings, I can be free of anger.” This reminds us that we accept the things we cannot change, as stated in the serenity prayer. I have learned to accept life on life’s terms and know to stew in…

For today Apr 7th
“A cloak is not made for a single shower of rain.” – Italian proverb “For today: How can I best help another compulsive overeater? By going to the meeting, whether I feel like it or not.” I’m sure that we can all relate. Sometimes complacency sets in, which I need to be mindful of. Yes, I get lazy and I make excuses…

Inactivity in the group
I noticed that this forum gets very little participation, so I was thinking about starting a small group, where sign-up and participation is private, which would better fit within the scope of anonymity. Sort-of a meeting on the go. If you are open to joining a private meeting group, please let me know. Otherwise, it's not…

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” – Eleanor Roosevelt “For today: The OA program gives me the self-confidence all creative people have.
