Obstacle became helper
I just thought I'd share this little tidbit with you all. When I started this, my husband was the biggest obstacle to my success, not out of meanness but out of ???? He would bring me candy or my favorite chocolates, order an extra appetizer at the restaurant etc, making it very difficult for me to stick to my good…

Hesitant about accepting friends requests from young men
I just got a friends request from an 18 year old young man. I am a female in my sixties and this has me a little baffled. Anyone?

Well, I went and done it now...
I could not resist any longer and had a bag of potato chips today (putting me well above my allowed calories for the day). The sad thing is: I really enjoyed it. I wonder if I will ever get to the point where I see junk food and go YECH.....I can't imagine how that could happen...I find it so so so difficult to stay on…

went on an 11 day cruise and lost weight (no kidding)
I just came back from a 6 weeks trip to Florida. It started with an 11 day cruise to the carribbean and I was worried that I would pack on the pounds...........all that food everywhere. So, my husband and I decided that we would NEVER take the elevator (except on formal nights where I surely would have tumbled down the…

nails are separating
Has anyone else encountered this: ever since I started watching my caloric intake and staying below my goal, my nails have started splitting and separating in layers....strange. Maybe it's just a coincidence?

You can't trust the scales...
I get really bummed out when after having worked espescially hard and being really good about food, I step on the scales and find out I've gained.... I read everywhere that it's normal but I wanted to "cure" myself of the dependancy to always check the scales so I decided to try an experiment: I got on the scales at…

Need friends please
Hi, I joined MFP a few weeks ago and am so totally impressed with it. I love the way I can keep track of food/calories/exercise. I'm 63 years old and have at least 50 pounds to lose, I'd love to lose more but I think I'm being realistic here. I would really like to find some friends in my age group (plus or minus a…

Question for women over 55 who have lost a lot of weight.
Hi, I now weigh 204 and am setting my goal to 135 or140. I'm 63 and my skin is not as resillient and springy as it used to be. My question is, is there any chance that at my age, I won't have the flaps of skin that have not shrunk back. And if indeed, the skin d does not go back tight at my age, what does one do to…

WOW, bonus: this time belly fat is first to go.
I've gone up and down through the years dieting and yo-yo dieting....nothing worked. And in the past few years I developped quite a belly (that I could not get rid of). This time around, I am NOT dieting, I'm using MFP for calories count and exercise, use my treadmill every day, do yoga in the morning and 30 sit-ups at…

The same weight from different perspectives
I remember a while back when I hit 200lbs I was devastated. I kept moping and feeling sorry for myself but kept going: heavier and heavier and heavier. After deciding that enough is enough...I decided to make some changes and now, I'm finally losing some weight and getting back down and funny enough, the 200lbs that had me…

New ideas for beverages please.
I now have stopped drinking sodas alltogether, I still have coffee (only one cup a day) and tea (one cup a day). I drink lots of water but now find that when I get thirsty...I don't always want water (water, unfortunately can get boring taste wise). Fruit juices have lots of sugar so I keep away from those, and I don't…

Meal replacements: a solution? or a crutch.
Hi, I have been trying, the traditionnal way, to lose weight: eat less and burn more calories but lately, I have been pressured by an acquantance to use meal replacements... I have always stayed away from those. Are there benefits to using something like that? Or should I stick to the old tried and true method.
