discouraged and confused about scale jump
I know there are a hundred posts a day on this subject, and I know I sound like I am whining--but I need to ask for guidance/support. In the last 7-10 days the scale has jumped about 5 pounds and seems content to settle there. I just started my TOM and am hoping that is the culprit for at least some of the fluctuation.…

perspective on sodium
Is sodium that bad for you? I don't actively add salt to food, and I try to limit processed foods, but I still seems to hit around 1800 mg sodium per day. I don't have high blood pressure. Are there other issues and concerns related to sodium that should be considered? And to what extent is water retention "bloating"…

artificial sweeteners
i know this question may sound a little silly, but do artificial sweeteners play a role in weight gain? I am talking diet soda, zero calorie flavored water, low calorie gum and other candies (yes, the last two have calories, which would obviously be factored in when logging). i have heard that artifiicial sweeteners can…

Am I destined to have cellulite?
I admit to being pretty lazy exercise-wise. There is no excuse, really. Is there anything I can do to target cellulite? I am not overweight. Technically, underweight. I guess I could be defined as "skinny fat" due to lack of muscle. I have cellulite on my behind and the very top of my back tights. Not noticeable with…

Chiropractors (your thoughts/experience wanted)
This post isn't necessarily related to Fitness and Exercise (though it could be). Just curious what people's experience has been with chiropractors. I have started to see one for intense shoulder and neck pain (something chronic, not related to anything specific). In addition to the chiropractor's manipulation, I also see…

Bad food day...compensate the next day?
If you go over your maintenance calories one day, do you compensate the next day (or two) by eating at an ever lower deficit or working out more? I ate 800 over maintenance yesterday. I know...bad. I was thinking about eating under my maintenance calories by 400 the next two days. Is that an effective approach, or should I…

MFP accuracy of maintenance calories
What are people's opinion regarding how accurate MFP's maintenance calories estimator is? (The number of calories MFP tells you to eat a day to maintain your weight). I know individuals vary for a variety of reasons...metabolism, genetics, medications, etc. Just curious if generally you have found the estimation to be…

lactose intolerant or just lactose sensitive...
I have noticed that milk products cause some bloating. I don't have pain or any other symptoms that would merit a "lactose intolerant" diagnosis (in my opinion). I know many people take lactase (lactaid) for lactose intolerance, but would that also be helpful/safe for people with just benign sensitivity to lactose? I have…

I just need a little reminder...normal weight fluctuations
i know this post has been done to death...even if someone knows of a good previous post on the subject they wouldn't mind referencing, that would help. just in a bad place today. (TOM in the next day or so).

water shoes to wear in a public pool?
I am looking for suggestions on a good pair of "water shoes/socks" to wear at my local YMCA pool. My concern is one of hygeine, so the actual build/support of the shoe is less important. I currently wear my flip flops up until I get to the pool edge, but I would like a shoe I could go into the pool with. (I am swimming…

hypothyroidism and thyroid issues
I had some lab work done yesterday and my thyroid test came back a little abnormal. My doctor explained it was still doing what it needs to do--but it was working very hard at it. It can be reversed, but I need to make some major nutritional changes. If not, I am definitely in jeopardy of having a hypothyroid. Does anyone…

I'm new (well starting over)
I've posted here before, but I am starting over. Old diaries and weights started to make me feel bad, not inspired or motivated to do better. So, I start with a clean slate. I am hoping (and willing to work for) health and fitness.
