Are you an older woman doing serious lifting?
If so I would love to hear from you! I'm 5'4" and am pretty comfortable with my current weight (113) but man oh man I am just one mushy mess when it comes to muscles. My poor skinny arms have withered to sticks. Not a pretty sight. It's true that after a certain point, the loss of muscle mass happens SO quickly...it has…

Older gals--Reaching weight loss target is not enough!
I joined MFP around the beginning of the year with a plan to reconnect with the body I had acquired 10 years ago when I lost 15 pounds and discovered weight lifting (machines). LOVED the body I acquired then and after a gradual eroding of food and exercise discipline I tackled "this time" with optimism and determination.…

Newbie! Is anyone else just starting out?
Hi Everyone. I didn't even know this group existed! (I've only been a member of MFP for a few months and haven't ventured too far from the diary and the newsfeed with some friends I acquired intially). SOOO glad I found this group. I'm going to curl up with my tablet later on and just treat myself to some reading! I can…

Running programs for Ipod Nano??? C25K...any others?
I am one of those people who is resisting getting a "smart phone". I have a computer and a tablet so don't see the need to replicate those services on a phone. However, I am interested in using some of the running programs that are designed for beginners. So many of them are "apps" that seem to require a smart…

Restarting Phase 1
Well I made it though 2 weeks of Phase 1 in Januaryand lost a couple of pounds. Then I went on vacation. Then I let myself do the whole Valentine treats thing...and then it just snowballed and I'm back to where I started. Soooo I'm doing Phase 1 again for at least a week. I miss a slice of morning toast and a bit of fruit…

What's a good surface for home upstairs workout area?
I'm in the midst of creating a workout space for myself in one end of our cavernous master bedroom. I want to devote enough space to house my treadmill (it's there now) and have room next to it to do workouts (e.g., Jillian Michaels DVDs). The room is carpeted but I find that sometimes carpeting is actually "slippery" (…

ChaLEAN Xtreme, Jillian's Body Rev. or ?????
I'm new to doing workouts at home. I got some nice results a few years ago using the weight machines at the gym but I stopped going and right now I just can't get there often enough to make that a good exercise plan. I'm not so convinced I can get the results at home as I did with the weight machines but I'm going to give…

New here! Starting "Ripped in 30". Interested?
Hi! I just threw my hat into this ring and have no idea if I'm doing any of this posting the right way so please forgive the "newbie"! I am 61...ugh. Ugh... I was doing pretty well with diet (basically cutting out "white food" and sticking with a "South Beach Diet" lifestyle) and exercise (walking at a good pace several…

Good DVD for home strength workout (women)
Hi! Wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a DVD that focuses on strength. I'd like a whole body workout to tone up and build some muscle. I have Jillian Michael's RIpped in 30 DVD and I like her strength minutes (compound moves) and her ab minutes but prefer not to do the cardio section (I'd rather do cardio as a…

Cross Country Skiers?
Prior to LAST winter I bought ski gear with thoughts of trying to "enjoy" our Wisconsin winters. Never used them. Like most things, the hardest part is...getting started! I put a note on Facebook today and someone (an avid xcountry racer type) responded that he thought he knew of someone who'd be willing to "coach" me.…

Before/After photos...did you all take some?
Today is the day I return to a lifestyle that includes regular exercise and more deliberate food choices. I'm sipping some "fuel" (coffee) and am about to do my first Ripped in 30 workout. While I'm skeptical that 30 days will be enough time to see any impressive results I have to admit that I was so inspired by…

New here and pumped to get started on my program!
After getting some great results by a lifestyle change (lifting weights and eliminating "white food") I did a number of years ago (and then let it all slide) I am ready to get back after it. I was kind of dreading "getting started" but I have spent the last couple of days getting mentally prepared to make the changes I…
