Gaining Muscle While Losing Fat VS. Cutting/Bulking Phase
So I've read a lot of differing opinions on this. I've read you can gain muscle while losing fat at the same time, however why do most bodybuilders and fitness models etc go through cutting/bulking phases? And during their "cutting" phase do they still lift, just not as much? Right now I'm doing insanity and turbofire and…

New years resolutions
I want abs by June, although we will see if that's a reasonable time frame or not. I also am going to aim to practice yoga 6 times a week and cardio 5 time a week. What are yours?

Reintroducing Myself
Was here a few months ago, lost 7 or 8 pounds and was almost at my goal, when I stopped going to the gym and started eating like crap again. Gained all of it back so I'm back. :) . A little about me, I'm 24, married and have a 2 1/2 year old son. I run, practice yoga (mostly ashtanga), and am vegetarian. Trying to get back…

I Think This Book Is Making Me Want To Go Vegan
I'm reading the book, Skinny *****, and am mortified at the treatment of animals in farms. I have always been "weird" about meat, I don't like touching raw meat(or even looking at it), won't eat it off the bone, and am kind of picky about what pieces I will eat, but after reading this I am seriously considering becoming…

May Be A Stupid Question but...
Does MFP account for exercise and allow more nutrients for the day? I'm setting up my meal plan for today and am already going way over my nutrients but I haven't added my strength work out and pin class for the day. Will that even it out?

Cyclists, Please Help. What Bike is Right For Me?
So I've decided I want a bike, mainly for fitness and commuting to and from the gym. I have been told to get a touring or hybrid, but don't really know the difference. I am a stay at home mom and whatever I get will need to be able to tow a bike trailer with my two year old in it. I will be using it on the road only. I…

Having a Hard Time Getting Enough Calories with a Low Sodium
So it was recently brought to my attention that I should only be eating 1500 mg of sodium, so I tried making a meal plan for tomorrow keeping that in mind. I finished it, and was very proud of my 551 mg of sodium, when I realized I would only be eating 875 calories! This is not including the 600-700ish I will burn tomorrow…

Calories Not Accurate on HRM?
I bought a HRM in hopes I could start tracking my calories more accurately. I got a Polar FT4. The HRM has my age, gender, height, and weight, as well as (obviously) my heart rate to track my cals, so I thought it would be very accurate. I used it for the first time today, and am pretty skeptical. I did a warm up walk for…

How Do I Know How Much Nutrients I Need?
I know mfp has a default, but I'd like to customize it but I don't know where to look. Can anyone point me to a website or something that will help me see how many of each nutrient i need? And what is it based on? Age, gender, build, exercise? I'm 5'8 with a small/medium frame, 141 lbs. I run 16-20 miles/week and strength…

Is It Possible To Lose 1% Body Fat In A Week?
I never paid much attention to the body fat part of my scale, but I stepped on it today to compare just out of curiosity. Last week I weighed 140.8 pounds with 26% body fat. This morning(exactly a week later) I weighed exactly the same but didn't pay attention to the body fat %. I stepped on it again just now and it was at…

Help with heart rate monitor
So after hearing such great things about polar I got a polar ft7 on ebay. Got it this morning, set it up, and it says my resting heart rate is 175! What the heck?! Can someone help me out here?

Intermittent Fasting
Thoughts? I just started reading Eat Stop Eat and have found it interesting so far. Wanted to hear other people's experiences with it.

Best Heart Rate Monitor
I've been thinking about wearing a heart rate monitor so I can track my calories burned more accurately. I'd prefer the watch type without the chest strap, but have seen those get pretty pricy. Which ones do you guys have?

Not safe to lose 2 lbs/week?
Okay so my BMR(I think that's what it's called, correct me if I'm wrong), says I need 1,810 cals a day to maintain my weight at 142 pounds. I want to lose 2 lbs a week, however that would have me dip under 1200 cals. Is it not safe for me to lose any more than 1.2 pounds a week? Is there any way of getting around this?
