How can I improve core strength with strength training? It seems to me that some of the machines DO affect/use the core. I can also do free weights. So which exercises (on either machine or free) should I incorporate?

collard/mustard/turnip greens
They were out of my usual big weekly bag of spinach SAturday so I bought a bag of this. Browned a chopped up slice of bacon, threw in the greens and a bunch of water. Gag!!! I was hoping for a new veggie to go with the usual broccoli, green beans, asparagus, and squash rotation. NOT this!

possible ab improvement?
I have had five major abdominal surgeries and basically my belly is quadrifurcated. Above the waist it is not so bad (the scar from that one goes to the bra line, but is not "indented."
