The Blessings of Grandchildren
I just received the news that my eldest daughter in expecting her third child in October. I'm so thrilled. They live just a mile from us and I enjoy seeing them so often. My first thought was that this isn't really a topic for a fitness blog, it is? Then I started thinking about them and what they do for me and realized…

Daily Goals vs The Gremlins
After doing the weekly goals last month, I thought I would raise the bar and try to set up a daily goal thread to help us stay on track. I borrowed this idea from Mike (HappyTrails7) and a thread we joined last month that went after late night snacking and it really helped me. Here is how it will work: You set what you…

1000 Posts / 100 Pounds Lost
So here I am on the day I just hit the 100 pound lost mark. I'm contemplating what the key items are that continue to help me be successful with my fitness. I am a firm believer in paying it forward to share whatever works for me so perhaps it can help others that may be where I started last year. Here's my thoughts:…

A goal without a plan is just a wish
I started on MFP last July and I've lost 72 pounds so far with about 53 to go. I've learned so much about myself, my health and fitness, that I thought sharing it here might help others. When reaching for a goal, we all know that in order to succeed, we need to have a plan. Here's part of my plan: My Top 10 Guidelines: 1)…

Motivation - Visualize Your Journey
My health had deteriorated to the point that I was the heaviest I'd ever been (325 lbs), on multiple prescriptions for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diuretics, and acid reflux. At the start of my journey on MFP, I created a visualization for the journey ahead and wrote it on my profile to remind me. From my…

How important is being active with MFP friends & forums to your fitness?
I was just commenting to some of my MFP friends and got to thinking about this. We all have some friends on here that come and go. Many of them just are gone and we have no idea again how they are doing. I was wondering if there is a correlation between those that stay active and their continued success with their fitness…

MFP Premium
I've been reading rumors that MFP may have a subscription paid premium level coming out in the near future. I'm curious as to what you guys think about it. I don't know much at this point other than it will have some improved features that many of the experienced longtime members have been asking for. There is also…

What's your drivers license weight?
I just happen to look at the weight on my drivers license and its actually now 11 pounds more than my current weight. It says 250 and was that when I was 325 pounds, so that was quite a large lie to the State. I know here in the U.S. about 2/3 of the states still list weight as part of your description. I think…

Medical Information & Resources
I am creating this discussion as a location for all of us to share what we've learned about some of our common medical problems. Hopefully we can make it a place we can all use as a reference and have discussions to help each other learn more about them. The only caution is that we want to refrain from giving medical…

Family successes?
Wanted to quickly share how MFP has infected my family over the past year. I am truly amazed what a great tool this site has been for all of my family. It started earlier last year when my son-in-law began losing with MFP. He was fighting the 30 year old sprawl. He did so well, he convinced me to start in July when I had…

What's your drivers license weight?
I just happen to look at the weight on my drivers license and it exactly matches my current weight, so I am no longer lying to the State. Mine says 250 and I just hit the 75 lbs loss mark. That was quite a large lie. What does yours say?

Oprah's Pure White Kidney Bean Extract Diet?
Does anyone actually fall for this crap? I just got a spam email on this and it made me laugh. This one claims to not only have helped Oprah lose 17lbs in 4 weeks (again), but she also has more energy, sleeps better and is more rested. And that's not all - you don't need to do any other special diet and it works with no…

Relax - Live one day at a time
Many things in life seem like such a huge challenge when we look at them as one big step. Regarding our fitness goals, this certainly applies. I could look at my target of trying to lose 120 lbs and be overwhelmed and allow myself to be defeated before I even started. Now I am almost 6 months in and have lost 64 lbs, more…

Diet pop - is it really bad for you?
I am addicted to diet pop. I have been on MFP for 3 months now and I'm very happy with my progress. I have not only lost more weight than I expected, but I have improved my diet and fitness level substantially. However, I still have a long way to go. I have been trying to make changes slowly and incrementally. One of the…

When life throws you a curve
Anyone struggle to keep it together when life gets tough? I've been doing great with the diet so far but I just got some bad news. Now I'm cranky and I just want to eat. Any ideas to keep from going on a binge?
