Triathlete type friend recruitment thread
What’s the hardest discipline in Triathlon? - that’s right weight control… ok, so swimming runs it close for me personally - but body composition is why I'm here posting today. I know what my engine will do at various volumes of training and I keep thinking - if I could just lose that last 5kg's of needless body fat - I…

Alternative overhead press options.
Due to an old broken collar bone that never set in the right position I have a weakness in my right shoulder. It means I get pain when pushing weight over my head. I have battled through it for too long but it’s time to admit that I will never be able to lift heavy above my head. I need alternatives to build my shoulder…

If your into endurance racing/training, or just healthy eating, the check out.... The feed zone cookbook - by Biju Thomas & Allen Lim. I can't recommend this book highly enough! Especially if your into cycling, full of easy, fast and real food that works the way you need it to. Especially the portable race food! (Lim's…

IronMan
Rather than start another group, I thought I'd do this as a thread within the main Tri group. So who has done one, who is training for one, or is even preparing for one in the next few years? IM & HIM racers more than welcome to contribute! I wanted a place to help with finding like minded friends, support, training &…

So you’re heading to a foreign but western county (familiar food and take away options) for a week of work away from home. Staying in hotels but moving around most days. You have flexibility in weather you eat at restaurants use room service or buy food to take back to your hotel room. What’s your strategy for staying ‘on…

Cadence
Any of you guys and girls monitor your bike and run cadence? I make an effort to cycle at 90 rpm, but I run at 75. Trying to figure out if it's worth increasing my run cadence as I read somewhere that it's more efficient to have similar bike & run numbers. Any thoughts?

Swimming
I'm a new and enthusiastic swimmer, but it is not coming easy.... Now I've joined the local Tri club for some coaching and open water swimming sessions in the summer, but before that I used the below site, recommended to me by a few people. http://www.swimsmooth.com Any tips or info for swimming please share!

After strength training, how long before cardio?
So I read somewhere (don't remember where, but I've a feeling it was on Lyle McDonalds site) that doing an endurance workout only a few hours after lifting for strength, would neutralise or stop any gains from the strength training. I'm itching for a workout (run), but I lifted reasonably heavy at lunch time, 5 sets of…

Brick training sessions
What's your favorite brick workout? Do you even do them? Tonight I have an hours tempo ride on the turbo into a 30 min treadmill run (need to stay in the house for other reasons). Not my favorite! Any ideas for more fun variations?

Give your body a break to lose weight
There’s a trend I keep seeing from the friends that I interact with, I also see this pattern in my own weight loss. Time after time, people are not losing weight, for a weeks at a time, then all of a sudden they get a big loss. The funny thing is that very often this big loss co-insides with a week off either with illness…

How to mark your 40th Birthday in style?
So next November I’ll turn 40. No biggie really except I feel I should mark the occasion somehow. How do you plan to mark yours? Or how did you? My current options are; 1. Complete a full iron Man event 2. Climb a proper big *kitten* mountain somewhere. 3. Play St Andrews Old course 4. Buy a 2 seater that goes fast.…

Running recovery tips
Recovery is just as important as the workout! It’s when your body adapts and improves! This is my strategy/routine for recovering from hard running or tired legs even some running niggles like mild shin splints. Recovery starts before the run by eating well and being hydrated, that means hydrating through the day, not just…

Gym Classes and blokes
Just reading a comment stream from one of my friends who asked, what exercise tonight? Gym, Cycling, weights etc... One answer was go join a random class at your Gym... I though to myself, that's not a bad idea, could be fun! Then I thought, actually I would be a little intimidated to join what is largely (at least at our…

Running in central park
Going to NYC in a few weeks, done most of the touristy things in the city over the years but never run there, this year I want to take at least one run in central park just for the fun of it. Anyone from the big apple got any tips, favourite routes or curcuits etc...?

16 weeks to train... but for what goal?
Ok, I have 16 weeks until I start a muscle building phase in the gym at which point I’ll be cutting down my cardio to a maintenance level. I’m looking for a running/cardio goal/training plan to be completed within these 16 weeks… but what should it be… I’m unsure what to aim for next? I can already run and I do three days…

I want to understand Strength training and need guidance.
OK, I'm overwhelmed by the sheer amount of conflicting strength training advise out there on the web, not knowing which sites are respected to take my guidance from, reading ten's of muscle head forums is becoming a bore, full body, splits, machines, free weights, 5x5, etc.. etc... it's a mine field out there! So I'm going…

MFP helped me get real again.
I guess I skipped this post, but in hindsight I'm glad I did because I learned something in a few weeks here that is quite fundamental to me. I removed the weight loss ticker from my forum signature. I realized that I don't care how much I weigh, I realized that I don't need to lose weight. The only thing I want really is…

Calculating exercise calories
Howdy, first post here, hope some one can explain something to me. I just got a HRM to record my exercise calories. I set my activity level to sedentary on MFP so I enter my exercise calories manually. Should I add all of my exercise calories? or first subtract the amount I would use anyway in the hour that I worked out?
