40 mins enough to digest .5 lb of steak?
Before swimming? Am usually a fast digester

Found a butcher
with really neat cuts of meat and sausages made on the premises. Most of the meats are on the database or otherwise findable, but I don't know how to treat the sausages. I am going to assume they're calorific and will find the highest cal equivalent in the database. Does it make sense to eyeball the fat globulets when the…

Two light workouts in a day
Should be fine from a recovery POV, right, as long as there are a few hours between them? Especially if the rep ranges are high (e.g. 2 x 30, 2x 15, 2x12)? I could do some cardio, but I feel like doing the same workout again.

Poems from spam
I think some of the bot-spam is great. What's a good Android fitness app for pre-logging routines with set rep/sets?
I use Simple, which I don't think has space for prescribed sets/reps. I like it, but it only lets you punch in what you've done that day (not what you should do or what your goal is). I want to set up routines in advance eg: 1. cable kickbacks: 3 x 15. set 1: ___ lbs. set 2: ___ lbs. set 3: __ lbs. 2. something else >…

Do you peel your apples?
I can't be bothered but also don't like the idea of the pesticide glaze over them. I've heard of fruit/veg cleansing products, what's a good one?

thai dipping sauce
you know that clear dipping sauce that sometimes gets served with grilled dishes? kind of sweet-tasting? is that fish sauce? if it's fish sauce, is it the kind made with anchovies? i saw this at a store, don't know if it's the same thing.

Using a backpack to load squats safely
I can't use my right forearm to lift but want to load my squats. Someone on reddit said that it's better to have the weight in front, to hold it like a sandbag. I could only do that with the left arm - what about wearing the straps with the bag in front? OR how else would you add weight to a squat? (e.g. with cable machine)

Tomatoes
I love tomatoes. I would ideally eat raw tomatoes every day. But the tomatoes in the shops near me are horrible, pink, and flavourless at this time of year. (My old neighbourhood store somehow had an in for great ones year-round). What are your tomatoes like? How far would you go for a nice tomato? Have you grown tomatoes…

High reps every day vs. lower reps 3 x week
I saw an article by Bret Contreras geared around getting people active. In it he suggested that doing e.g. 10-20 reps per exercise (full-body program, 1 push/pull exercise each for upper and lower + 1 core movement) every day might be a sustainable goal for people who are averse to exercise. I'm not averse to exercise, but…

Good strengthening exercises for hip external rotators?
Most of the ones online are for flexibility, but I'm looking for strengthening exercsies. I know about the clamshell, and I found these two videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0O7wwIn_-uY http://bretcontreras.com/cable-hip-external-rotation-a-simple-but-effective-glute-exercise/ ^^ can't do that one, bum ankle TIA

Dumb question
I am eating the same amount I did when I maintained 124 lbs - 2100-2300 (I logged then and now). Currently, I'm 142 lbs. I'm exercising at about the same intensity, I'd say, although I'm not able to do the kind of metabolic workouts I did back then and I can't lift heavy. (I now do intervals on a stationary bike; stuff on…

Working out on a Saturday night
Yay or nay. (I've done it before and I feel like a weirdo sweating on the elliptical right next to the windows that overlook all the partiers. Deciding whether or not to go.)

Tendonitis/tendinosis
Has anyone had PRP or laser treatment for chronic tendinosis/tendinitis? Did it help?

I love cardio so much
Because it means I can have a ridiculous dinner of steak pan-fried in butter, with mashed potatoes and a monster salad with lentils, and be left with calories to spare. There are other reasons but that's kind of the main one.

Negative training
Someone pointed me to the idea that slow, eccentric training can be as effective as concentric training for building muscle. Also that it's quite hard and training this way has to be approached differently (many fewer reps, for example, and lots of recovery time). Any thoughts on this?

Body rhythms and timing workouts
If I work out during my preferred window, it sets me up for a nice sleep at 12-1. My body feels best and most optimally regulated in terms of energy and sleep when I work out mid-afternoon or early evening (3-8pm). That also happens to be the best time for me to do concentrated work, for which I need to feel calm and…

Self.com's Nutrition Data - "Fullness Factor"
Just found this - database of foods thought to predict satiety. Thought it was interesting http://nutritiondata.self.com/topics/fullness-factor "After studying the results of numerous satiety studies, NutritionData used an advanced multivariate analysis of the existing data to create a new mathematical formula that…

What results could I expect with this kind of workout schedule?
I'm at 142 lbs, 5'7, F, late 30s, higher bf% than preferred. I could either try to lose fat or build things up. Wouldn't mind trying to build things up, except I'm working around injuries (RSI in wrist; issues with knees and ankle; previous tendonitis in shoulder, it's ok now but I don't want to push it.) I can't actually…

Form on the elliptical
That's a weird-feeling machine that I have to use. How can I make it feel less weird? Where are you supposed to hold your centre/torso? I feel like when I keep myself centred exactly between the pedals, I feel a pulling sensation at my knees. What I mean is that this way, I keep my hips and torso in the middle of the…

Curious about fasting
So my experience today was that I had a coffee this morning and that's been it so far. Not for any reason, just haven't gotten to eating yet, I have a healthy appetite and no EDs or anything like that. Ordinarily, I'd be flipping out by now. I don't know why I'm not now, tbh. Well, I ate way over my calorie goal yesterday,…

Do stretches help you with recovery? What does?
I've read that static stretching isn't useful at all, that seemed determined. Then I read that actually it might be useful. Active recovery, like walking and swimming, is said to be best, but I'm not sure my legs always agree. Massage seems to help me a lot. What works for you?

Diner-style burgers
If you don't have an indoor grill, you can fry these. A little less than 226 cals each (makes 9 and a half servings...) with medium ground beef, but you could obviously do them with leaner beef or a turkey-pork mix if you'd prefer fewer calories. I wouldn't go with very lean beef, because they can turn out really dry and…

I think I just fouled up my love for meat
with a disgusting experiment involving "fast fry" steak and a horrible, horrible sauce. Gagged two bites in. I don't know when I'll be able to eat any other kind of meat ever again. I could barely choke cheese down an hour later and I was starving. This saddens me lots. :'(

Just having a lazy, lazy day
What do you do when you've got no fuel in the tank, even though you ate enough and got enough sleep? It's one of those curl-up days, haven't had them in a while.

How off can those body fat measuring scales be?
A friend of mine let me set up a profile on his bf scale (don't know what kind it is, it was expensive). Consistently measures me at a scary number suggesting obesity. (Currently: 142 lbs, 5'7). I agree that I'm carrying too much body fat and am sure a caliper would put me pretty high up there, but this number is high! I…

TDEE according to online calculators feels low
I've been setting my calorie targets at a level higher than TDEE - 10%, and doing it according to what feels good to me instead. I have my net at 1600, but 2000 feels better. - I can't get my head around the low TDEE the calculators give me, using all formulas. For example: I put in my height and the weight I maintained…

How can crockpot recipes taste good?
This is super flammable, I'm sorry in advance. With ordinary cooking, timing and temperature and all the rest of the bag of tricks make a HUGE impact on flavour and texture. I honestly do not see how putting a raw onion in with a frozen chicken and a can of soup and cooking that for 8 hours can taste good. Even the foodies…
