Two light workouts in a day

Should be fine from a recovery POV, right, as long as there are a few hours between them? Especially if the rep ranges are high (e.g. 2 x 30, 2x 15, 2x12)?

I could do some cardio, but I feel like doing the same workout again.

    What are your goals?

Realistically: maintain/build basic joint and muscle function and improve the state of my stabilizers; continue to work around some chronic issues.

Aesthetically: I'd like to improve my body composition to the degree I can. Maximize muscle retention while dropping a teensy bit of fat.

I'm under advisement by my physio to stay in higher rep ranges for now (no 6 rep sets for me). But I feel like I've got some left in the tank :) Just feel like doing another workout, I don't know :)

I think I did choose appropriate weights for those rep ranges, though, because the last two reps for each exercise were challenging to do with good form.

Your body improves at rest, not under stress. Two workouts a day is fine, provided that all your other ducks are in a row. But doing the same lifting workout is pretty pointless and probably detrimental. I'll do two workouts in a day, but they'll be lifting and cardio, or chest and legs, or back and arms. Same light full body, high rep workout twice in the same day? Not even once.

And why two workouts so light as to be ineffective and leave you craving for more of the same thing?

Because my physio is telling me to stick to those rep ranges to make sure I'm sticking to form and not screwing it up under too much weight for my crappy stabilizers. My muscles can handle more, I think, but I'm not 100% on the other stuff. I have bad biomechanics, and am working around injuries & osteoarthritis, etc., so I have to be super careful. Yet, I feel like I could do more, kwim?

    Got it - thanks :)

I guess I was thinking maybe I could make up for too-low weight for muscle growth, with volume, in a safe way. If that makes sense?

Ask your physio what effects volume and frequency will have on your condition. Based on the response, it may well be possible for them to design something that you find more satisfying but still remains in your acceptable range of intensity.
