Ladies who lift.
I have a serious, but embarrassing question. It's about my *cough*headlights*cough* at the gym. I'm completely serious. Mortified, but serious. The last few times I've been to the gym and done lifting type exercises, I've done squats and deadlifts in front of the mirror, and it would seem when I'm lifting, I get…

Comparison photos
On my wedding day, 3yrs ago. At 103kg after losing weight doing cardio only. A couple of weeks ago. At 103kg after losing weight doing some cardio, and lifting heavy. I'm wearing the same necklace in both pictures, but it's longer on me in the 2nd photo because my neck is slimmer. I'm thinking about getting a photo taken…

They do what?!
My 14yr old son has been accepted into a talent agency through his drama class and had to go to a 'head shot' photo shoot yesterday. The photographer told him that he's very photogenic and that he looks like a 'young Denzal Washington'. He came home really excited, but my husband was giving him a hard time, telling him he…

StrongLifts 5 x 5
I've downloaded the StrongLifts 5 x 5 App for my phone and started it last night. It started me at 20kgs for Squats and Bench Press and 30kg for the Barbell Row. The Bench press was much too easy for me, I was able to do all 25 in a row at 20kg. In fact I know I am able to do 3 x 8 Bench Presses at 60kgs. Can I move my…

NSV ... A victory, but a touch scary too!!
I've 'under grown' almost all of my shirts, I only have 2 or 3 I can wear to work at the moment. So I went to a plus size store (that I love) to buy more tops. My new top is a (plus size) .... XS!!! Extra small!!!! (US size 14/16) Ha! I'm freaking out, I'll have to find new stores to shop at! This time last year I was…

MFP moments you like...
When you've had and logged breakfast, and you've logged dinner and snacks, because you know what you'll be having. BUT, you don't know what you are having for lunch.... you go to the canteen at work and grab something and when you log it, it's the EXACT number of calories that you have left for the day! Huzzah.

I told a lady at the gym she inspires me...
... And I think she nearly cried. Almost a year ago, when I first started at the gym she told me she'd lost 28kg and that I could too. Tonight she told me she's now lost 48kg. What an inspiration!

Women lifting ....
I saw my physio today (follow-up for my knee which I had surgery on a month ago) she asked if I was back at the gym yet. I said I'd done a few cardio sessions and two (upper body) strength sessions, I mentioned that I'd been really sore after my first lifting session. She said "oh that's not good, you must have been…

Strength training NSV
I had the best NSV tonight at the gym. My regular PT stood me up at the gym tonight (NOT happy) the gym manager found me a trainer to work out with. A new trainer, I'd not met before. I said "I guess you should know I had knee surgery 3wks ago so I'm on light training on my legs, but I'm expecting an upper body strength…

Help me set fitness goals (please?)
Up until recently I only had a weight loss goal. I want to lose 59.2kg, because that's how much my son weighed when I started - and that would put me neatly into the middle of 'healthy' BMI. So then I was reading a thread on NerdFitness and someone said that you can tell a girl isn't overweight when she can do at least 3…

1,500 for maintenance? Really?
Michelle Bridges, one of the Australian Biggest Loser trainers suggests that for women 1,500 calories is a good number for maintenence, or 1,600 for women who want to put on weight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8V--HyBw07M&sns=em (hope that works) This freaks me out because I've just upped my calories to 1700, based on…

Personal trainers.
Apprently I'm another trainer down. That's 3 trainers I've broken in less than a year. Either I'm just too hard core for the trainers or no one wants to train the fat old lady. Im absolutely gutted, I really enjoyed working with the last one. I'm not sure if staff turn over at gyms is usually really high, or if it's just…

Non-girlie push-ups.
I've read that full push-ups are much better for you because they engage so many more muscles. I've been working out for about 10mths now, and can do approx 25 'girls' push-ups (from my knees), but I want to move to 'full' push-ups. But I'm a bit scared that I just won't be able to lift myself off the ground. I'm a little…

Hungry!
On Friday I upped my calories to maintainance because I had knee surgery yesterday. I fasted from midnight Sunday, until 3pm yesterday (after my surgery) and then ate 1,700 calories between 3pm and when I went to sleep last night. 1,700 is more the BMR but not quite maintainance. I woke up at 3.30am starving! I got up and…

more than maintenance?
I'm having an arthroscope on Monday, and I've been told that I shouldn't be on a calorie restricted diet while I'm healing after surgery. Is moving my calories to maintenance enough, or (as scary as it seems to ask), should it be more? I'm on 'light exercise' for 2 weeks post surgery, so I won't be doing much in the way of…

Recovery from surgery and calorie deficits
I'm having an arthroscope on my knee next week. Can I remain on a calorie deficit that week or would I have a faster recovery if I up my calories to maintenance?

NSV - Sports Bras
I have just purchased my 3rd sports bra. Considering that prior to 2012, I have NEVER in my life owned a sports bra before, I'm pretty surprised. Now that my under cup size is an Australian size 18 (40US), it's much easier to buy bra's... and cheaper too!

Arthroscope on my knee - pre and post surgery suggestions.
I'm having arthroscopic surgery on my knee in a month to repair a torn cartilage under my knee cap. My surgeon suggested that I build up the muscles around my knee as much as I can before surgery, so my trainer and I have been doing a lot of stuff for hip flexors etc. I do BodyPump twice a week, and do the squats track…

I cried at the gym yesterday
... and not because my trainer was killing me. But because I missed my weight loss target by 800gms (about 1.5lbs). I had hoped to have lost 20kgs (44lbs) before I fly out to New Zealand for my Christmas holidays. I knew I'd be close, so I hadn't weighed myself in 3wks. I'm really disappointed, but everyone keeps telling…

Strength training with an injured knee
I have a knee injury that I'm in the process of getting diagnosed. I went to physiotherapy for 6wks immediately after the injury and dropped back at the gym during this time. My knee stopped hurting, but as soon as I went back to the gym my knee started hurting again. The physio said she suspected that I had some arthritis…

Polar FlowLink
I have a Polar FT7 with a FlowLink connector. I was thinking of getting my husband a Polar HRM for Christmas, does anyone know if we can share the FlowLink? Now I've written the question, I don't see why we shouldn't be able to share.... but I'm not 100% Sure.

Lifting and estrogen suppressors.
Yesterday I chatted with a friend who is seeing a PT 3 times a week. the PT is making her lift heavy to help her lose weight. My friend is worried about 'bulking up'. I told her there is no way she can, I told her about 'The new rules of lifting' etc. She then showed me her arms/shoulders, she's bulked up! LOL. I said…

Sore muscles...
I had a PT session with a new PT last night. This morning the muscles that run down the sides of my spine (Lats?) are really sore. I would generally do a BodyPump class tonight, should I .... a. Suck it up and do it as usual. b. Do the class, but use lighter weights than normal for the back track. c. Skip it and do…

HRM and BMR
I have a Polar FT7 HRM that I wear when I exercise. I read a post on the forums about having to minus an hours worth of my BMR from the calories burnt on my HRM because MFP already takes my BMR into account when it works out my calories. So, if I work out for an hour and burn 400 calories, do I then minus my BMR divided by…
