27 miles for last week
5.2 so far this week
51.2 for the month so far0 -
Walked tonight while kids rode their bikes shins are hurting this week from getting back into running.
Have you been fitted for proper shoes? I ran with shin splints for 2 years until I discovered zero drop Altras. I switched because of the wider toe boxes, but the zero drop seems to have helped the shin splints too - double bonus!
I have had shin splint issues since Jr high track. I have had a couple professional shoe fittings but my gait is very pronated.0 -

I was told I pronate, and they put me in stability shoes.. but I noticed I was then wearing out the outer portion of my soles much faster. I moved back into neutrals but with an arch support insole. But, I believe the zero drop shoe forcing me into a midfoot strike has been the biggest reason my shin splints have gone away.0 -

I've been completely slacking on posting my miles. I'm up to 42.42 for the month, combination running and walking. Running is feeling great so I'm slowly bumping distance and have added in three strength training sessions a week. Still too scared to get back on the bike though!0

Nice shoes Wiglet! I love purple. How'd they work?0
-
YES Laura.. I love purple too. The shoes worked great during my long run today. Definitely better with my arch support insoles in them. My feet feel great still!!

I wish I could find some fun shoes but my feet are so finicky: narrow heels, between sizes, can't stand arch support. I've been wanting trail running shoes but have yet to find something even remotely close to working.0 -

I have narrow heels + wide toes. That's why I switched to the Altras (they have a wider toe box that allows your feet to splay the way they naturally want to). Also, I use the extra eyelet on the shoes to tighten them better around the ankle/heel to keep them from slipping - this I've had to do with all running shoes. I wear arch support insoles because of my flat feet/prior bunionectomies... otherwise, I feel a lot of pressure/achiness in that area.
I haven't tried these lace anchors, but I may now... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rhhEJ-7ca00 -
