Re-Boot!

Hi all. I just wanted to start a thread to check in, and recommit to the south beach, low-glygemic way of eating.
I'm still here. Haven't strayed far, but have been reading up on nutrient dense foods as I work my way through menopause and all its joyous symptoms, lol.
Just need a new challenge!
I'm thinking about doing a re-boot. Phase 1.
Anyone care to join me!?

Phase one needs a total mental commitment. Mental Preparation. When do you plan on starting P1? Oh, and your kitchen needs to be P1 ready as well. I would need a few days to plan things out and I could start on Sunday. Oh dear, just thought about this... a green smoothie without fruit...hmmm...how does THAT work?0
-
Heh. A green smoothie without fruit is a challenge! I'm doing green smoothie PLUS zippfizz (orange flavor today, berry tomorrow).
It does take some mental commitment and prep. I'm starting today, but would love it if you joined me this weekend!
B: green smoothie minus berries (kale/spinach, hemp hearts, flax seeds, 1/4 avocado, 1/2 cup soy milk, orange flavored zip fizz)
S; string cheese or snap peas.
L: salad with black soybeans or herring on top
S: almonds
stir fry tofu/vegetables.
S: good question0 -
The zipp fizz does the trick? I never make my smoothies with any kind of milk...almond, soy or otherwise. I have today off...have to run to the store before breakfast...let me think about this. I have zero fruit in the house at this time...just frozen for smoothies. Might be a good day to start. YIKES!
ETA: Have leftover green smoothie from yesterday...will use up the frozen fruit and ready myself for Sunday. Working on my menu now for today.

Thanks for posting your menu...that helps.0

If you don't have access to zip fizz I'm sure a crystal light type thing (if you do artificial sweeteners) would work, or a "propel" type thing.
Good luck, whatever you decide!0 -
So I just checked freezer...only thing left in there is about two bananas chopped. Can be saved or tossed. Will pick up the zippfizz today at Costco. I am on board. I am just wondering if I can use skim milk. I don't care for the almond milk or soy...I want my green smoothie to taste like a creamsicle, too!0

smiles! I don't love the lemon in smoothies, but berry, orange etc are yummy. Or some other powdered/liguid flavored vitamin "water enhancers".
Skim milk should work fine too!0 -

Revised menu:
Today's Menu:
B: green smoothie with fruit
L: taco salad with 1/4 cup kidney beans and 5 ounces ground turkey... without tortilla
S: two egg one yolk mashed with 1T light mayo and whole grain mustard on lettuce
S: 15 almonds, 6 ounces yogurt % fage, 2 T sugar free jam
6 ounces wild caught salmon, asparagus, 7 grams freshly grated parm/reg and lemon
Healthy Choice Fudge Bar0 -
May cut the salmon down to four ounces. I know three is too little. Am I the only one jumping on board with you. Where is everyone else. Tomorrow I will take the plunge and have an orange zippfizz in my green smoothie. Kale, Spinach, Chard, skim milk, zipfizz and water. Yikes.
Just posting to say...this is not so difficult. Have a ways to go to get to my lowest. Hang there for awhile and then the last ten. Not getting any younger. Moving April 23 and would like to be ten pounds gone by then.0 -
So far, it's you and me!
Day two: Today's menu, so far:
B: Green smoothie
S: string cheese
L: Mapo tofu over black soybeans and spinach
S: snap peas
probably mapo tofu over spinach
S: maybe some chocolate pudding?
I'm at a healthy weight, with only 5 vanity/menopause pounds to lose, so I'm not expecting a big loss!0 -
Oh! Another thought: they make berry (and other) flavored stevia drops as well.
I've never tried it, but I know some folks on smoothie sites swear by them.

Thanks so much for posting your menu...sure helps. Had a horrible night's sleep--adjusting to the menu I think and lack of "food" used to help me get to sleep. Go in a bit late today to work. Have not made my green smoothie yet...chilling the water in the freezer.
Today's menu:
B: green smoothie with orange zipfizz and skim milk
S: egg salad on lettuce
L: sorta taco salad with ground turkey and kidney beans, without tortillas
S: almonds
salmon and asparagus
S: yogurt, nature's hollow maple syrup, chopped almonds
healthy choice fudge bar
Yesterday was a bit tough...did buy some sugar snap peas and celery for emergencies...snacked on four stalks of celery...attacked them actually!
If I had gotten a better night's sleep last night, today would be awesome. But everything is ready to go today...I am on to day TWO...do not miss the grains, etc...and surprisingly I am good without the fruit ... two weeks, and I will be ready for those gorgeous strawberries that will be in the market.
Thanks so much Sabine...I needed this and your push came at just the right time! (*)0 -
My orange creamsicle is green...but it is tasty. I need to play around with the amounts...I used a bit too much water...forgot that it was a 20 ounce bottle...and then used 8 ounces of skim milk...but used an entire package of Power to the Greens from TJs...chard, spinach, kale...and then of course the orange soda zip fizz...I LIKE IT!0
-
Yeah, it takes some time when you tweak a smoothie recipe. When I add avocado, I have to cut way back on soy milk or it's too thick.
Glad the zip fizz works! Let me know if you notice anything with the caffeine.0 -
Off to work in a bit...usually I have something with caffeine when I get there to keep me going til after nine...won't need it today. I do think I have to have this early in the day and have some food...I did feel quite a spike in energy.
I am feeling better than I did earlier today. Thanks again!0 -
I feel great...2:40 in the afternoon...not tired...not wired...just alert and calm. Good stuff this ZipFizz! (*)0

S: 12 ounces red wine (my cheat).0 -
Ok...so all I have meat wise is chicken, fish and ground turkey...and on a tight budget. And the chicken is not breast meat...but chicken thighs...I remove the skin before cooking...so I am going to have to go with that tomorrow and Saturday. What do you think?
Your menu looks great....working on mine.0 -

that is where I got mine...Alpine...ours were kinda thin...but very sweet. Later in the season...they get fatter...LOL!
Just got my lunch ready for tomorrow. Finishing off the meat from the other two chicken thighs. Won't defrost any more for about two weeks. Much richer than breast meat...but I got so tired of chicken breast. It really is not bad if you bake it with skin off and BONE IN...that is the key...keeps it juicy. Will pick some next week.
Having a good day...day three almost in the books. Feeling strong.0 -
Grilled eggplant in my newest kitchen gadget my sister got me for Christmas...a Rangemate from QVC...Health Hearth on Amazon. I "grilled" the eggplant in the rangemate...rounds...six of them...and then used microplanned parm/reg as a dusting after they came out of the oven...excellent.
Here is Rangemate's facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/Rangemateusa?ref=br_tf

I LOVE grilled eggplant (and stir fried).
We had stir fried cauliflower and eggplant (curried) last weekend.
Tonight was leftovers , and I opened a can of re-fried beans to augment lol.
Hubs is AWESOME about piecemeal left overs.
And there was wine. I'm sorry, but if I'm doing phase 1, there will be wine.
Tmw is valentines. We have reservations at a restaurant I KNOW will be easy.
We'll share a low glycemic appetizer (either olives or mussels, he can dip the bread), and then I'll have the fish and double veg, and two glasses of red wine.
Breakfast: a smoothie
Lunch: leftover tofu0
