May, I'm still dithering about whether to do the challenge or not. I'm kind of scared to, that I will gain weight. I have a dr's appointment/blood work at the end of the month and I want that to be good. She wants me on steroids, which I will. not. do. But I'd like to avoid the argument. If I'm flying free, what will happen??? Yikes.

I saw the post about hiding the calories, but don't know how to put in the coding.

You're brave to do it, and I'm tempted...

I understand for sure Ellen. I was hesitant too, just for the reason that I don't want to put back the weight that has taken so constant effort to lose. But I can watch the scales and if I'm not happy I can pull out any time. However, you have your appointment so maybe it's best if you miss it this time? Goat did say he'll do it again in June. I was tempted to wait until then when I've lost (please!!!!!!) some more weight LOL, but somehow found myself participating this time. I still couldn't tell you how that happened ;)

Do you *want* to hide the calories? If yes I'll use some additional words to explain it over and above Dragonwolf's description.

May---yes please, I'd like to know how to hide the calories, even if it's just for future reference. Still might jump in. Like you say, I can bail if I start gaining. Thank you.

May you are so brave to join FIT_Goat's challenge. I just can't bring myself to do it yet. Maybe in a few months. My weight loss has slowed down over the last 10 days or so, but I'm still losing. And after 4 years of not tracking and getting very slow results eating a primal diet, I feel I still need to track and know how many calories I am eating, for now. I think since joining MFP one month ago, I have seen good results, and it must be from all the tracking, so I can't give it up until I complete my mission. I have been trying to get on the treadmill 6 days a week just to walk, and I look and feel smaller, so that must be helping too. Definitely a step in the right direction to change my life.

    Morning Everyone

Ms May I'm in it with you. Won't be much of a change for me as the only time I watch calories was during that fat fast. And I'm not savvy enough to do that whole compute majic trick to block them out so I'll just keep on keeping on the way I have been.

Hope everyone has a great day. Work is calling (screaming actually!!)

Oh, I am sorry Ellen. I've just been going through the steps but because I'm already signed up I can't get the pages to do what they did yesterday. I can't write the 'step by step' that I'd hoped to do because it's all acting differently now :(

Don't worry Kitn, you can do the June challenge if that's better for you!

Hope your day is a good one Rebecca!

Good luck with that May. I do hope it works for you. I am down another pound logging on FitDay instead of MFP. I do not know what the difference is but I continue to lose when logging FitDay verses MFP. I just know other than maybe 1 1/2 pound bounces along the way I have lost 4 pounds since March 14. I had lost NOTHING in three months on MFP other then the same 3 pounds over and over and over and over. I do not remember how many times I lost that same flipping three pounds. I think it might not be good for me to depend on user entries. I am NOT going to check each entry every time I have a life that can not revolve around my WOE.

There is no way I would consider goats no logging. I know myself well enough to know if I do not keep strict control of portion amounts I will over eat. I am not into fasting and all these rules on eating. It puts too much emphases on food all day long. I just want to be mindful of what I eat=low carb and call it good.

I am leaving MFP. The boards do not have anything left for me. I do not feel there is good support for people coming in here for LCHF or just LC WOE. This board says it is supposed to support healthy eating and not to support starving yourself and now every one is fasting and eating only meat, Fat bombs out the butt. The board is no longer good for me. It upsets me to see this. The best thing for me is to just walk away.

So best of luck to all of you.

    Chris

Chris, I'm sorry your leaving. Will miss you. I personally just do low carb and 90% of this forum doesn't directly relate but I so far keep reading because there are occasionally great links to blogs, books, articles etc that I find interesting but don't take the time to search out myself.

I came across this study showing that sparkling mineral water with meals is good for post-menopausal women's insulin levels. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17970536 Thought it could possibly be of interest to someone here.

I was sick last night. Went to bed fine then suddenly came over feeling giddy and queasy. Stood in the bathroom shaking until I threw up, and then back to bed. Very, very weird and out of the blue. Other than being very hungry this morning, which I'm ignoring, I'm completely normal. Only had 5½ hours sleep though, so rather wiped out/tired. Oh well, there are worse things in life.

May--interesting article! I wonder if the extra sodium would do anything to blood pressure?

Glad you're feeling better this morning. Have you noticed a difference in your weight loss since beginning your fasting? I'm only doing it a couple of times a week, but will probably increase. Pretty easy to do.

    Good Morning Ladies,

So sorry to loose Ms. Chris. She will be missed and I wish her the best. I find I cannot agree with her as I've gain so much knowledge and support from the group that I can't imagine doing this without y'all.

Ms. May I sure hope you feel better. That whole stomach bug thing is horrid!

Ms. Ellen I hope your blood work turns out well. Funny how all those little numbers tend to rule our worlds sometimes!

Gotta go get some work done this morning. My torture session is at 2 today. This week and next week then I have to wait 30 days, do a Mohs, and wait for those little numbers.

    Have a great day everyone!

We'll miss you Chris! Update on my back, much better! Still tender but most of the cramping pain has gone and I can get around pretty well. Survived the long plane ride!
    Hope everyone is doing well.

@sbom1--Glad your back is better and the plane ride was tolerable! Enjoy your trip.

Chris, we miss your input on this group, but glad you're having good success!

@Ratsmith--I also have gained a lot of help and knowledge here. I hope you get great results from your test! Waiting is hard!

I only did it the once, due to ill health. I have been meaning to do it again and perhaps during this month when I'm not counting calories (under MFP's beady eye!) may be a good time to do that. It's brunch that I will need to miss, which is when we have our main meal together.

@Rebecca Thank you so much. Yes, I've been healthy today. And despite only 5½ hours sleep last night have made it brightly through my day. It's just after 1am now so we're heading to bed any moment. Sure I'll sleep solidly tonight ;) I truly hope that the 30 days don't drag for you and even more that the results are perfect when you get them.

@sbom It's so good to hear from you and brilliant news that you are doing so much better. Well done n surviving the plane journey so well!

Have an awesome day everyone, as I head for my bed. Can't believe I've completed 2 days now without counting calories and without losing control of my food ROFL This has never been done before. I've never dieted without very strict control. It's good o:) Though I'm still weighing daily, as I always do. That I could not let go of ;)

Thanks Ellen. My weight has gone down 100 grams each of the 2 mornings of the experiment so far, though it had done a 500 gram jump upwards on the first morning. So I'm glad the experiment is going for a month and not a week. I'm not 'free eating', but moreso going by my 70 days experience and eating the same way as I have before. But when I completed logging last night the MFP comment told me I'd be 81.2 kgs in 5 weeks and I know from experience that that is a lie means I ate low calories for the day ;)

Fascinated yesterday to be discussing my stubborn lower belly pouch with my husband. I grabbed it in a handful, saying "Look, it's still sitting there, the same as it was 70 days ago!" but my fingers and thumb were closer together than they ever have been! Or in other words, the belly pouch is still there but it's not dense/thick fat any more, it's thinning out! My tummy measurement was down by one tiny centimetre this morning just to prove it ROFL. My starting tummy measurement was 112 cm (44") and it's now 106 cm (42"). My waist has gone from 94.5 to 93 cm, a drop of only ½" in 70 days. My body has its own agenda on where the fat is coming from - but it is moving, nobody can deny that.

May--Oh my, laughing about your conversation with your husband! Sounds so familiar. It's exciting to see changes and measurements getting smaller, even when it's bit by bit. I see little changes, too. I'm eager to see bigger ones!

Slow and steady wins losses. :)

44 year old checking in. I had a hysterectomy a while back due to stubborn endometriosis. I have both my ovaries, but they sorta...work when they want to work.
I started off at about 153 lbs in October. My initial macros were set at a conservative amount - like 65% fat, 25% protein, 10% carbs. I felt great at first, but the scale wasn't budging. It would wiggle around less than a lb plus or minus. Keto sticks were showing only trace to small for ketosis check.
I got really sick on January and ended up on medicine that put me firmly out of ketosis, so I basically had to start over. I ended up fiddling around with my protein levels and, like a few others here, found the 75% 20% 5% ratios worked better. I went on a fat fast for 2 days after I was all better and got myself back into eating all the fatty mcfat fat again. I've been firmly in ketosis since then, even when eating out and on vacation.

The worst part of this way of eating, though, is the LEG AND FOOT cramps. I am having a hard time dealing with that.

I'm 5'4" and currently weigh in at 140.6 lbs as of this morning. My daily calorie goal is 1300 and I am usually well under. I stopped trying to cram extra whatever in at the end of the day, unless my ratios are out of balance. That seems to have helped a lot.

@Ellen Glad I gave you a giggle. And yes, we are all winning day by day with our weight, measurements *and* learning patience like we never have before o:)

@Teneko Welcome to this thread, it's great to have you aboard. Sorry to hear of your sickness and meds in January, that would have been a trial :( Glad you're back on board now though. Those cramps would indicate that you need more salt in your diet. It happens to me occasionally too and I head straight to the rock salt or sea salt. I actually grind a very small quantity directly onto my hand and lick it from there when I've reached the point of having cramps. Sounds as if you may need to do that, or at least significantly increase the healthy salt you put on your food. Or drink a daily cup of broth, as many here recommend - I haven't done that yet. I also use 'lite salt' which gives you potassium, and the other needed electrolyte is magnesium. If you don't eat magnesium-rich foods then please do get yourself a supplement. I never take full doses of supplements, nor do I take them each day - MFP totally underestimates micronutrients so you just want a top-up amount. The other option, that I do from time to time is to take a half dose of Gastrolyte. In case that's an Australian brand name, Gastrolyte is the electrolyte replacement product that I can buy from a pharmacy or supermarket quite cheaply. It's designed for people who've had bad gastro to replace their electrolytes and works a treat for a little top-up.

Day 4 of the April challenge and it's the third day in a row that I'm down 100 grams but, considering I'd shot up 500 grams on the first morning that's not such a thrilling statistic ROFL However, I'm happily surprised to be heading consistently downwards without tracking calories, this is a first for me, and quite a liberating occurence as well as a nice confirmation that I am not using food as a drug anymore.

My January sickness was strep throat. Luckily nothing THAT terrible...although my throat was closed up so bad that I went to the ER afraid I'd stop being able to breathe and wouldn't be able to call for help. They gave me ALL liquid medicines and, in the US, liquid means, "Better add sugars!" Hah.

When I was a kid, I salted my foods a LOT, but quit cold turkey as a teenager when a guy I was crushing on commented at the school lunch table that I should have a little food with my salt. Took me a while to get back into salting foods "properly" on this way of eating, so I may still be under-salting foods. Thanks for the tip. I'll try keeping a closer eye on that.
Also have a cabinet full of chicken broth. Having a cup of that warmed up in the evenings sometimes helps...a little. But not always.
I have some fizzy low carb electrolyte packets as well and have tried cal-mag-pot supplements, but neither of those seem to be helping. Yesterday I picked up a magnesium citrate powder sweetened with stevia that my chiropractor recommended. I took that before bed and, for the first time this week, I slept the night through and didn't wake up to cramps!

I'll keep fiddling with my electrolyte balance until I find what works for me.

Good job heading downward on the weight!

Hahahaha view at your own risk there is some crazy stuff going on here. Even the toilets are mosaic. When hubby spent so much time sick from chemo all I could think was when life gives you *kitten* mosaic the toilets. I am taking a short break from the hallway wall project. It is eleven foot long and so far 40 inches tall and I needed to get a fresh look at it.. I am working on a silly little project now then back to the wall as time permits..

Wow, love the mosaics...I've always wanted to make one, just never got round to it. Toilets are amazing! Your cats are gorgeous too. Thanks for letting me have a peak into your life. Xx
The mosaics are beautiful, so are the cats!. I love Hostas! you have quite a few, so I have I.. will show them once spring comes here (n Norway, but I am not Norwegian, originally from Los Angeles)

Happy Easter ladies ! I'm about to start preparing some of the dishes I will serve for dinner tonight. I have been worrying about this carb-laden menu for weeks now. But I have felt such a surge in self-confidence over the past few days, that I know I can stick to my commitment to myself, and not give in to temptation to eat our traditional starchy Easter foods. Why should I feel obligated to eat scalloped potatoes, rice, corn and dessert, not to mention the paska ( Easter bread ), fruit and chocolate ? I will just say no to them all and eat ham, devilled eggs, asparagus and salad. And I bought a bunch of disposable food storage containers to give out to my guests, filled with leftovers, so they can take home all the foods we won't eat, and get them out of my house. My daughter came up with a high fat, sugar-free dessert idea too. She baked sugar-free coconut macaroons in the shape of little nests in cupcake liners in muffin tins. Then filled it with sugar-free coconut pudding made with full fat coconut milk and sugar-free chocolate. She put Cadbury mini-eggs in the nests, but we can pick those out if we want.

This is definitely one of my challenges....how to deal with a big family event that requires that certain foods be served out of tradition. I am perfectly fine on a day-to-day basis in terms of sticking to my plan. In this case, I can see now that I gave myself extra stress worrying about Easter needlessly. Why should Easter be different to me than any other day ? I suddenly feel energized and joyful that I can do this. And maybe this will be a learning experience for me, to be able to prepare for the next event with less stress.

    Have a lovely day everyone.

Hi @Kitnthecat I'm so thrilled for you that your dinner (and moreso you!) went so well over Easter. You must be so excited!!!

I did make the little paleo Easter eggs, as posted in a thread on the main board. I left out the sweetener and portions have been shared between hubby and me, and I've saved some for our youngest son who is largely paleo. We've only had a couple of tiny bits each so far but I've really enjoyed my 2 tiny, teaspoon-sized treats - one yesterday and one Sunday.

I seem to be doing well on the April challenge - she says, cautiously LOL And dear Ellen has joined in as well - congrats Ellen, and the best of luck to us both!

Thank you for your encouragement, May! I've been scared of the calories and found myself eating by numbers. I well know what I can and cannot eat, so I'm going to try eating gauged by hunger. Maybe I'll get the hang of this yet!

    Mornin Everyone,

Glad to hear everyone had a good Easter and it seems everyone is hanging in there.

We had a great Easter with the Grandflowers. So much curiosity and pure joy in little ones!

As for me I'm keeping my chin up and plowing on. I just keep reminding myself that two weeks from now I will be over this and getting on with life.

    Have a great day everyone.

@Ellen it's quite an adventure isn't it? I'm really stunned to be losing consistently since hiding my calories, I *totally* expected the opposite. Yet I was eating around 1,100 calories for a week recently and didn't lose then. And MFP hasn't chucked a wobbly when I've closed my diary each day so it's all a rather amusing experiment, with success thrown in for good measure ;)

@Rebecca I'm so glad the time is passing for you now and can't wait until you're given the all-clear! And yes, the grandies are precious aren't they? Ours were away for the Easter weekend but are about to come for lunch, and to collect their little dog that we've been 'sitting' while they were away. Our own little dog can't wait to be rid of the joyous, life-filled 1 year old and settle back to her sedentary middle-aged sleeping life LOL

The Australian/British spelling for plowing is ploughing - that you'd like that ;) We love our letter 'U' - neighbour, colour etc etc
