Hi everyone, glad to hear familiar info from others fighting our bodies as they change. I'm 57, 160 lbs and been going up and down 155 to 160 for a year now, yes a year. Ugh. But I know exactly what's wrong - adding artificial flavors to my water and coffee and yes and eating Atkins bars if I can't handle craving, which leads to eating real sugar for a week or more. I joined the MAY CHALLENGE and believe that will encourage me to work the artificial sugars out of my diet. I often eat too much cheese simply from not having a good plan for snacks or if a craving hits. I really just want to eat while foods and low carb. I've Seem for me that drinking lots of water, even with the fake sweetener helps with sleep and constipation. I do take a ducolax softener , one a day, and that helps too. Water helps with my sleep and muscle cramps at night. My hot flashes get worse at times from all the meat and then they'll almost go away. Have to wonder about getting more estrogens in some meats. I'm really bad these days tracking at all so I have no idea how much percentages I'm getting of anything. Can you tell me about the spreadsheets several of you mentioned using? I know that would help me. I've been sugar free , low carb since January 2015 with about 10 or 12 days of sugar in there and lost 6 lbs. In 1998 I lost 40 lbs doing Atkins by the book, and at my Drs request to battle endometriosis, and yes it worked great tho I sstill had the objections and rapid menopause for 6 months... Anyway felt so great for 3 years... And here I am today. So glad to be walking with y'all!!0

@NewSue Well done on the 10k steps. Mine’s set for 10k but I’m happy if I go past 5k. I’ve only done 10k a couple of times 71k + in a week is awesome!
@Kitn Happy Birthday you young thing you! And yes, not many people get a Princess as their gift do they? So sorry about all the cramps etc and truly hope it’s stopped now. If I get cramp in my calves it is so much more painful than getting it in any other muscle, it’s kind of weird. I hope your wonderful Randy has solved it for you. ‘Randy’ here is only ever used for ‘chasing a bit of what you fancy ’ but we’re aware it’s a name in America, and seemingly in Canada too so I’m trying not to grin like a school girl, I truly am! Hope you have an awesome time at the restaurant! I really love ethnic foods but our beautiful Mexican restaurant closed years ago now and we can’t find another we love as much. The main server was the most gorgeous and cheeky African man and the décor was amazing.
@Jane Can you imagine how many pages we’d have all filled by now if we could speak our posts? Ha ha! I know – rotten David has gorgeous slim legs doesn’t he? Petite build all round really, and although he was gaining a ‘bus drivers tummy’ LCHF has shifted that in very quick time even though he’s barely trying and still drinks a few nights a week gggrrrrr! And yes, everyone’s calories disappear which is not always what you want. It’s actually easy to turn the script on and off now you have it – just click on the S on your internet toolbar and tick ‘turn off all styles’. To turn the script back on uncheck the box. And don’t worry about the dairy free thing – it’s only an option for those who wish to take part. My hair is *dead straight*. Even my other hair *barely* has a kink in it
In Oz the accent barely changes despite the massive size of the country. I worked for directory assistance for 4 years so I’m familiar enough with it all. I can pick someone from the east coast by the way they say the word ‘you’ or ‘you’ve’ and you can pick a country Queenslander because they speak rather slowly and the older ones use words like ‘frock’ instead of dress – so gorgeous! I don’t think anyone that’s not a hardened Aussie would pick any of us apart.
My school dinner lady used to say “Get ait and stay ait!” and we always laughed at her, yet hers was a Bucks accent that I (and my school friends) should have had. And recently here I met a younger guy who I thought could be from Essex or London by the way he sounded. I asked him where he was from and he said “A little place called High Wycombe”. I could not believe my ears. So I guess the accents in England are changing. I love accents and languages – Dubai must be amazing. Can people who’ve never worked in Britain get a British pension? I don’t like sand or beaches either. Maybe in winter when the sun is glaring back and blinding you.
To a Brit I sound Aussie. To an Aussie I sound British. Much as I hate my voice, here you are… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyTFTkMcwg0
Sorry about the wind noises in it.
Oohhh congrats! Gosh I really hope all goes well for Tinka and Chris. My cousin has IVF twins. So excited for you!
@Kitn I can pick a Canadian because they say ‘Oh my!” as an exclamation, it’s so beautiful.
@conniesoper welcome! Sounds to me that you have good plans in place to help yourself, well done. We’re here if you need to talk instead of eat – or just talk I believe the May Challenge should help you a lot. My hot flashes had disappeared but are back a bit now I’m LC, but they’ve never drowned me in sweat or anything like that. LC is worth having them again I think. My spreadsheet is just an excel page with far too many columns where I record all my stats and use far too many highlight colours to point things out to me. I’ll see if I can post a screen print shortly.

Hi May......To a Brit I sound Aussie. To an Aussie I sound British. YEP! LOLOL. You sound Aussie to me. I guess its a sad thing but a lot of the youngsters in UK now all sound the same and a lot of the time its like London/Essex (sorry anyone who comes from there and think thats an insult, not meant to be just an observation)
Loads of things have changed in the way they speak. I apparently have an 'English' accent. Clear english and no regional accent yet my brother has a definite Dorset 'twang'!
A few months ago I was sitting with a group of mixed Nationality ladies and I was asked where I was from? South Africa? New Zealand? When I said no, England, I was told I didnt sound English!!! Turns out all the English people she has spoken to are British Asian and they have the 'Indian' accent and she thought that was an English accent! LOLOLOLOL
Anyone hate how some words in their language is changing these days???? I really hate hearing Brits saying ...think instead of thing as in everythink is ok!!! Arrggghhh. Where did that come from??? I guess its how languages develop.
OMG!! A spreadsheet! That is serious! Whatever floats your boat if it works for you. I look forward to the book!!
Total respect to all of you who are doing so well with your steps and exercise! I have hauled myself out of the chair twice and done the walking video and I quite enjoyed it so guess I have to do it again. Crazy since before the egg donation bit and subsequent depression and weight gain 20+ years ago I used to scuba dive, play squash, go to the gym at least 3 times a week and walk a huge amount. Just cant get back into it again now. Needing surgery for a prolapse doesnt help as I have to avoid anything that causes me to put extra downward pressure on my nether regions. Maybe afterwards....lol.
Have a good day everyone! Look forward to tonights results from you all!0 -
Ha ha at your changing origins! David is from Middx so I tend to pick up his accent a bit and I've had people ask me if I'm from near London. LOL at British Asian being considered the accent now. We find that we don't notice 'other nationalities' (I'm well aware I'm one, as a non-Indigenous Aussie) when they sound Aussie, but when we come across a 'non Westerner' who has say, a Welsh, Scottish, Irish accent it makes us do a double-take. It's just what you become accustomed to. I'm very happy that I sound Oz to you - thank you.
Oh *yes* do I hate some modern words; like 'anyways'. Where the heck does that 's' come from? And I don't like 'anywho/anyhoo' either - it's anyWAY; or anyHOW (if you must ) LOL But yes, language has been evolving since the beginning of time and there's nothing we can do about it. I get a lot of interesting words from David, who lays his head on his pillar every night. He asks me how to spell words sometimes and is totally shocked when I answer him, but he's a lazy speaker and better at making people laugh than using his native tongue correctly
Ha ha I love spreadsheets and data, but I doubt there will be a book
I hope things improve for you in the exercise department - you never know what this WOL can bring.0 -
Happy Birthday to you, @Kitn! Hope you had a really lovely day, you young thing! May the year ahead be the best yet.
@Connie --welcome. Hope LCHF helps you get where you want to go. Lots of folks find that sweeteners prevent loss, so you might want to try getting away from them and see what happens.
@May --You sound totally Aussie to me, and I enjoy listening to you talk. Years ago we had friends who were from Tasmania and I loved their accent. I like the English accent, too, esp what I'll call the 'proper' variety. I hope that's not offensive to anybody. Most American accents tend to be sloppy, and getting more so as our country is getting more casual/lax in every way. Goodness gracious, girl, your spreadsheet is impressive! I couldn't do that if my life depended on it. Good for you!
@Jane ---Congratulations, grandma-to-be! How wonderful and exciting! I'm sure living far apart will be hard, but at least communications are so good now via videos, skype, etc., that you'll be able to see each other when you can't be together. I sure do understand about the exercise. I've dabbled a little, but need to do more. I also understand about prolapse. I had the surgery a number of years ago. It was helpful for the prolapse, but created other problems that aren't so good.
I'm up another 1.2 lbs today. I'm on an antibiotic that's doing crazies to my system which I thought would make me lose weight. But no, I'm gaining as usual. Oh well....
For all the 'permission' I've given myself to eat more carbs, I'm not even wanting them. Except for the mango and black bean salsa I made for my guys last night. I wanted that, with tortilla chips. But I didn't have any and whined only a little about it.

Hello everyone!
@RATSMITH69, so happy for you new cancer free diagnosis! You can tell all you want!
@kitnthecat, Happy Birthday, a day late! Hope it was a great day. So sorry for the leg cramps! They can make for a horrible night!
@GrannyMayOz, I love the pictures of your husband dressed up. He looked amazing! Seems like he must be a pretty good sport about it too. Will post a wedding photo soon. I like that idea! Your video wouldn't play for me , but I'm on a tablet, so that's probably why.
@connieoper, Welcome! So glad you are here! Good luck with the meativore May challenge! I'm doing it too!!
@jumanajane, we have many different southern accents regionally here too. We are able to tell, usually, what part of the area they are from too. About a two hour drive west is New Orleans, Louisiana and if you ever want to hear different accents, that's the place to be. All of the different cajun accents can be hilarious. Have to listen very close to get what they are saying, lol! Very interesting that there is no retirement in Dubai! I did not know that, hmm. Congratulations on the pregnancy of your daughter in law. I pray that all goes well for her, the baby and your son! WOO HOO!!
My weekend is flying by, just like everyone else's I am sure! We went to a Mexican restaurant Friday evening for my sister's birthday. This is a place that I used to pig out at. I had steak and shrimp from a combo dish my husband and I shared. Wasn't tempted by the chips, rice and beans at all. Big victory for me! Since we ate out Friday my hubby and I decided to stay in and have a low key Saturday evening at home. Fixed a Boston Butt roast and pork ribs on the grill (wanted to put them in the smoker but hubby had to order a part to fix it). Was nice to just relax and have no worries. Have a great day, or night, wherever you are!0 -
@Karlotta...what on earth is a Boston Butt roast???? Dont you like those from 'up north'??? Lolol. Sounds interesting....I think!!0
-
@jumanajane, it's a thick pork roast, can have the bone in too, but mine didn't. It was good and I'm looking forward to leftovers!
My wedding photo:
This was September 12, 1992. I was sporting a mullet, lol, but the veil covers it, thank goodness, lol! I was bigger then than I am now! Hubby never changes!

We arrived at our beloved Mexican restaurant last night, and it was closed, so I was disappointed. We'll have to go another time, now that I've got my heart set on it. It's so rare to find a place that sets high standards for food quality and understands that not everyone wants to eat conventional processed food and tons of sugar and gluten. They have a hot sauce made with blueberries that is so tasty, and I just might have to buy some lemons and some stevia and make my own lemonade...
But ethnic food ? I don't think anything of it, I guess it is. We are a diverse community here, since Canada is largely made up of immigrants. Where I live has the highest population of aboriginal people in all of Canada, but sadly, there is also conflict between aboriginals and non-aboriginals still, in this day and age. The "white" or non-aboriginal population largely still needs to accept that the aboriginals were here first and have rights. So May, that's part of the reason those Manitoba ads give me chills, because they portray what I envision my community should be....a place where everyone's cultural diversity is honoured and embraced, and the aboriginal culture is respected. We are getting there slowly.
We have the most restaurants per capita in Canada too apparently, and many many ethnic restaurants. Our workforce at my work place is largely immigrant, mostly from the Phillipines, India, Pakistan, China, Isreal, and various parts of Africa and Europe. My roots are from the Ukraine, as my grandmother came here on her own, learned to speak English and set to work, a very independent woman. I have a special fondness for the immigrants, I must say, especially the Africans, maybe because I have learned about how all people who have come to Canada have faced various struggles. I am also most apt to break my food vows for our potlucks at work, in order to have some ethnic treats that I don't eat very often, like empanadas, spring rolls or samosas. This is food from the heart and we honour these groups by enjoying their food.
OMG, I didn't mean to ramble on. Come visit for some ethnic food !0 -
Hope you have all had a good day! I thought I would share what constitutes my 'craft' lol. These are very popular here....bit OTT for my taste but....the customer is always right so.....I enjoy doing them really once I have worked out what I can do with whatever hubby presents me with saying 'do an arrangement out of these please'!!! Darenth look at my diary today...Hubby got take out so....

Back from my walk. DH and I did 10,758 steps on the Katy trail. Katy is a spur of the MKT trail, a former railroad right of way that was converted into a state park. Its 225 mi (362 KM) from St Louis almost all the way to Kansas City. It's a great place to walk and ride bikes.
I'm ready to veg out for the rest of the day. So its time for TV and knitting. I hope you are all having a restful day.0 -
I love tv and knitting such a wonderful combination! I think I am in ketosis finally because I simply am not hungry and it makes things so much easier. My macro is 5% carb, 75% fat, 20% protein. I have found this doable for me anyway.0
-
Awww...how sweet, beautiful !0

@Ellen Thank you, I love to sound Aussie – I always thought that being a Pom (as Brits are called here) was sooo boring. Not because they are, my dear British friends, but because it was all I knew and *anything* else was more interesting I was probably a ‘proper’ Brit and my husband is almost a Londoner in accent and cheeky nature. LOL at your reaction to my spreadsheet. I was in admin for 30 years. Secretary, accounts, book-keeper, reception, ‘Girl Friday’ (which means ‘one woman office’) I did it all and loved it. In some jobs I was given huge amounts of money in big piles that I had to sort and receipt and turn into real paperwork I loved it. And my spreadsheets and holiday stories on my blog keep my Word and Excel skills up to scratch
@Karlotta thank you yes, David is wonderful fun and the more you laugh, the funnier he gets. I’m sorry the video wouldn’t play and it could be the tablet, I’m not sure. My eyes opened wide at ‘Boston Butt’ but I see you explained *giggle* We have rump steaks here. Same meaning, different word – it’s just what you’re accustomed to isn’t it? Your wedding photo is gorgeous, thank you so much for sharing. I love the all-white colour scheme, and your dress is beautiful. Your face certainly looks slimmer now.
@Kitn oh noooo! What a shame after you looked forward to your meal out. A lot of our restaurants are shut on Monday nights and I don’t blame them, but I wonder why yours was closed? It’s strange for me to hear the term ‘aboriginal’ to mean a native from any country but Australia, but I do know it’s used elsewhere. In the past 10 or so years there’s been a move towards the word ‘Indigenous’ instead but it’s not sticking. There’s a native tree here that was always called a ‘black boy’ but we’ve had to change the name of that now to ‘grass tree’. Some PC things are a bit silly aren’t they? It does sound as if you have a wonderful variety of cultures and cuisines to choose from!
@Jane ooooohhh those arrangements are so pretty! I would really enjoy doing arty stuff (for profit) like that. They’re beautiful – you do it so well. The filigree boxes are lovely too – are they wood?
@Sue Wowsers!!! The was some walk! 10,000 steps is quite a walk. I’ve yet to do it in one go because my husband has a Bakers cyst on the back of his knee and we’re waiting to see a surgeon. Hopefully they can fix it easily and we can get back to walking as we used to. Knitting and TV sounds great.
@Teraliel I’m so happy to hear that your hunger is under control. Your macros are pretty much the same as mine and I’m comfortable with it too.
@Betty Wow, what a tiny little thing you are, and what a lovely photo! Your dress looks such beautiful fabric, and the roses are gorgeous.
My weight was creeping up all of last week, since I got back on dairy, but I truly don’t know if that’s the reason. I feel fatter, my stomach is sticking out again, so I’m really hoping that going dairy free again this week will fix it. Goodness knows I need *something* to start me on the slimming journey again! David's rostered off again today and we're about to go out shopping and then who knows what.

We had to have our wedding photos restored, they'd all gone reddish purple, and we ended up getting this as a large print behind perspex to go on our wall, so there's a few photos here. My 'veil' was a hood attached to a lace, sleeveless overlay, and the lace sleeves were attached to the dress itself. We married on 4th January 1975 so just had our 40th anniversary. David looks odd to me without his moustache.

Good morning, ladies. Getting an early start again; couldn't get back to sleep at 3am. Not great. But I made an espresso and opened the patio door to get some cool morning air. The birds are already chirping so I guess it's time to start the day, even though it's still dark.
Beautiful wedding photos! And Jane, your chocolate arrangements are lovely. I think it's fun to arrange gift baskets for Christmas or whatever, but doing it professionally sure takes it to another level.
I'm taking part in the dairy-free challenge this week. Goodness knows I need my weight moving downward again. This upward trend is really getting absurd.0 -
Hello Everyone,
Thank all of you for the well wishes and prayers. Believe me they were heard and felt. I feel like I've been given a pass and I fully intend to take advantage of it.
So I weighed in this morning at 188 lbs. Not bad considering. But today I start over with this WOE as I was feeling so much better in so many ways before. I'm going to try to get a walk or two in today but it is so humid and muggy that I don't know if I will be able to breathe out there. I was up to five/six miles a day before my "break" so I need to work back up. First day back at work after two weeks and the first thing I do is get online to "see" you ladies!!
I spent the weekend with my GrandFlowers and my little Lilly is coming out of that "NO" stage and starting to actually say yes from time to time. It made me think of the conversation here as her yes comes out a lot like Sean Connery and sounds more like yeeesh. So funny. They call me MeMaw but somehow it comes out of Lilly as MeMaaaaaw (insert that whole southern Texas thing here). She is sure to have a strong accent. LOL I'll try to get a video of her this weekend.
I agree with the changes in verbiage people are using. Some of it is just annoying and some of it it just plain dumb! I'm more than a little fed up with having to change things because "someone" was offended. If it has been good enough for all of these years then it's their problem that that they've changed the meaning of it to make it something offensive. UG
Ms. May I love the pics and video. I can see why your hubby would not want to dress like that at night! hehe He might get more attention than he ever wanted! and WOW at the wedding pic. Beautiful. It's good to know there are still couples out there sticking it out. Congrats on 40 years.
I see a bunch of you are doing meaty May and no dairy week. I can't join in either right now but maybe a June challenge? I need to get back into LCHF first before I try anything else. I'll be watching to see if anything works well for you ladies and hopefully get some ideas for myself for later. I'm just hoping to skip the carb flu getting back into this WOE. Time will tell. The only new thing I'm trying this go round is apple cider vinegar. I started the 1 tablespoon with 8 oz of water this morning to see if it helps/changes anything.
I'm headed off for a cruise to Cozumel, George Town, and Folmouth in two weeks. I'm hoping to experience a bunch of the accents and differences I've been reading about!
Okay, I really need to at least try to work some this morning. So glad to be back!!
Have a great day ladies0 -
Hi ladies, love the wedding photos. Just got back from my Taekwondo tournament. Will weigh in morning to see how I did. Ate McDonald's grilled chicken Caesar salads a few days, steak & salad at night, and sausage & eggs in mornings. Scraped egg salad off bread they served refs for lunch and BPC twice a day some days. Tried to make cheesecake balls with 1/2 c cream cheese, 1/4 c cream, & 1 package sugar free jello. Think it might need something else. Or my taste buds could be off. Any suggestions. I did go back to drinking more diet coke, tho. Socializing in evenings I couldn't just stick to water.0
-
Hi, I'm a newbie. What a great idea to have a place for "us"!
I'm a Kiwi, aged 58 and weighed 115.9 kg on April 7. Today, after 4 weeks on LCHF, I weighed in at 109.5. I do 19g carbs, 108g fat and 113g protein on 6200 kj per day. I set MFP up to lose .6 of a kilo each week but these first four weeks have been way (weigh!?) faster than that. Stick to my guns almost every day although sometimes I can't quite eat as much as I'm "supposed" to. I have 3 or 4 cups of brewed coffee with pouring cream between 9 and 12, then a meal around 1 pm of meat and veggies (not too many of these), sometimes plus cheese and/or eggs and drink a bottle of No Sugar Soda Stream during the afternoon. Usually a chunk of Brie with some cucumber for afternoon tea. I then have a really good dinner around 7and sometimes a Weight Watchers jelly (a whole one) with blackberries and more cream. Some days I'll have a choc fat bomb or an almond butter bomb. If I exercise, I eat a bit more as it's important not to get muscle wastage at "our" age (as someone else pointed out) - especially fat. I weigh every day because I'm fascinated and love seeing the numbers go down, but don't always record on MFP. If I've put on weight, it's because I've eaten too much protein and I know it. Never carbs as I always stick very close to the 19 net. Love avocado because the carbs are almost cancelled out by the fibre - same with blackberries. Gotta say - I LOVE eating this way.

Welcome, this is a great group and you will feel at home here !0
-
Hello all! I've been busy these past few days actually getting some spring cleaning done. To feel like doing it is totally new to me! It's been so long since I've had energy to do anything more than the bare minimum (and my home shows it too!)! I'm not getting terribly sore from it, as I would have before this woe! Today I carried wreath making supplies from downstairs to upstairs making four trips up, cleaned the guest bedroom, washed two loads of laundry on top of my everyday stuff. May not seem like much, but, for me it's a lot and to not be hurting this evening is a major accomplishment!
@Kitnthecat, the U.S. was begun by immigrants. We have all lived together forever. It seems to be the newer immigrants who want to change everything. I've never understood people wanting to live here but then telling us how we need to change. I don't think we are the ones who should be doing the changing. Phew! Rant over, for now!
@jumanajane, love the chocolates. They are precious. Very creative!
@GrannyMayOz, I love the wedding photos. You look to be very young in 75, like you were a teen! I hope the weight creep gets worked out soon!
@wheatlessgirl, hope you are sleeping better and things are looking up for you on all fronts!
@RATSMITH69, so happy things have worked out for you! Glad to have you back on the wagon with us! Am jealous of your travels to come. I love cruises! Have a great time!
@Sk8Kate, hope your tournament went well!
@RivkaHobden, Welcome to the group! Good to see you here!
I'm a week into the meativore May. Seems to be going well, so far, but I do miss salad. Have found salami to be really good. Will get on scale and report in on that thread in the morning.
See y'all later! Have a great evening, or morning, everyone!0 -
Hello Ladies. I'm not feeling well this evening. I've had a headache that has been getting worse, with neck pain today. I went to see Dr Randy after work and he took many X-rays of my neck. I've had the urge to continue to stretch my jaw throughout the day, by opening my mouth really wide while tilting my neck back as I go for walks away from my desk, probably hoping to release the tension in my head and ease the pain. I had to take ibuprofen at work and just now. Not sure how I'll sleep. Feeling kind of nauseous too. I have to think it's due to the car accident and not something I've eaten or not eaten. I'll be interested to see the X-rays when I go back on Saturday.0
-
@Kitnthecat, hope the ibuprofen helps relieve your pain. So sorry you are having these problems. They are no fun, at all. I understand the jaw thrust maneuver. Trying to release the tension in the muscles back there can be super frustrating!0
-
Yes, thanks for understanding what I'm talking about. This isn't a stress kind of a headache, although I feel stressed about it now. It feels like something physical needs to be released to let out the pressure that feels like it's building up.... I don't know how else to describe it.
It is kind of cool to be able to know my body so well now and understand when something is wrong. I went into the chiropractor's office, told him I had a headache and that I thought it was because of my neck. My old method would just be to keep popping pain killers and keep working until I absolutely could not any more, and probably damage myself more. I really need to listen to my body and treat it kindly and naturally and find solutions that work.
Here's something nice. He gave each mother who visited the office a long stemmed peachy-coloured rose to take home for Mother's day. Isn't that sweet ?0 -
Hello Gorgeous Ladies
@Ellen I’m sorry to hear of your disturbed sleep, that’s no fun at all, and not so good for weight results either. I’m doing dreadfully on the weight loss front so I’ll share the award with you of ‘Gains or Maintains With Consistency’ *groan*.
@MeMaawRebecca I hope you’re settling back in with LC and real life with a continually relieved heart. I love the names our Grandies give us. I’m Granny May, but when my girls were smaller they couldn’t say that so I was May May for quite a while. And yes, all those words we have to now be careful with and make a whole sentence around to show we’re talking about polite things like being gay and happy, or camping in the great outdoors and the list is nearly endless isn’t it? Thank you for the congrats, it’s been a very very happy 40 years. I wonder what the June Challenge will be? It’s nice having them and I feel that it’s brought the whole group together more than it was before. The boards are so busy now. I used to read every thread, but now I’m choosing. Which is good because I get off here and go do some crafts or… housework I’m going to start ACV again after the 5 days dairy-free; I think it was good when I was doing that before and I hope it gives you good results! Oh wow, the cruise sounds wonderful!!!
@Kate How was the weigh-in? Hope it was a happy result. Sounds as if you made the right choices all through, I’m so proud of you and hope the scale rewarded you for it! If you want to order water in a bar without seeming (whatever, don’t know what word – different?) you can apparently ask for an Eskimo on the Rocks. I like that name. It’s just water and ice.
My sweet treat is…
Coconut Bounty Bar Slice (g = gram / T = tablespoon / t = teaspoon)
75 g dessicated coconut
130 g coconut oil
3 T coconut cream or milk
1 t xylitol/sweetener to taste
½ t vanilla essence
100 g 72% dark Ghana chocolate
25 g coconut oil
Mix everything together in a bowl, stirring well. Press into a small square baking tin or similar. Use a spatula or knife to cut into squares and then put in fridge
Melt chocolate and coconut oil together then pour over coconut layer. Set. Turn slice over and cut marked squares all the way through from the bottom.
@Rivka Welcome neighbour! I really hope you feel at home here and are loving the Low Carb lifestyle. I weigh every day too, it’s so interesting!
@Karlotta Great to hear about your energy and desire to Spring clean. My house awaits if you still have energy and finish yours I wish I had stairs in the house so I can get some floors recorded on my fitbit har har! Most houses here are single storey. I was 18½ when I got married. David had just turned 20 so yes, I was a teenager. And thank you, I hope I start to lose again soon. It sure is lovely when it’s moving downwards on a regular basis, but ‘ve been here before and I know it will start again.
@Kitn Oh gosh, I’m so sorry to read about how you’re feeling! I really hope Dr Randy has been able to help you. I’ve had ‘head’ aches where my spine joins my skull and they really are a sickly pain – I wouldn’t wish that on anyone! I do hope he can see what the problem is and help you quickly and completely! My prayers and thoughts are with you in the meantime. It’s beautiful that he gave you a rose! Better than a chocolate too.
My weight is playing silly sausage with me, but I know it will pass. Being dairy free doesn’t seem to be achieving anything at all and, although I’d have loved to be losing this week, at least it means lack-of-dairy is achieving nothing so I can put it back in my life again. I’ve missed butter the most, because I slather that on things to get my fat macro raised for the day when I need it. And I’ve missed cheese somewhat. However, I seem to be losing body fat again. Weight loss and fat loss seem to happen independently of one another on this WOE, it’s really strange.

Well, it looks like I've found the place to be! It's been fun getting to 'know' you ladies by reading the older posts here and I'd love to join in. I am 59 now, lost 120 pounds in 2013-14, and am just totally stuck on that last 30 lb to goal. I do much better on low carb/high protein and don't track fat grams but do count calories; and I log daily. Much more active now that 'most' of the weight is off - work out in the gym at least 3x per week, and have actually gotten up to 5 miles running outdoors, though that tapered over the winter and I'm working on adding distance again now, with the goal of an actual 5K race this summer.
Other stuff: I've been a widow for 30 years now (married Dec 1974) and have never so much as been out on a date though I'd love to meet someone. Two grown, terrific sons off on their own now - one moved out of Alaska, and the other is thinking about it so that's pretty tough on Mom (travel is very spendy from up here) but we'll work it out. Right now I'm in the midst of fixing up an old house to sell it and move to the countryside out of town.
This week I am trying to get back on track with carbs especially, so will be using ketostix to make sure I get there. Looking at the backside of 50s and seeing 60s in the windshield makes me realize how much life I wasted by being so heavy and out of shape. In all the prior weight loss attempts (and there were MANY, with some success) I NEVER got below where I am now but always put it back on. So at least I'm maintaining at an old set point but I do believe I should weigh less, the doctor agrees, and it will just take some work!
Glad you're here!0
