A great deal of Indian cuisine is, indeed, vegetarian, and quite a bit is even vegan, but Indian "vegan" can include dairy. What isn't vegetarian will often include lamb, goat, mutton, or chicken. I've only ever been in one Indian restaurant that actually served beef and I was shocked. They were apparently very progressive and had bowed to the American taste for beef, despite it being a major religious issue for many Indians to not eat beef. There were still Indian people who ate at that restaurant, so it must not have been too terribly offensive to the ones who still ate there. I don't know whether they ever ordered the beef dishes, though I doubt it.

I never did, as it wasn't something I even wanted to become accustomed to eating in an Indian restaurant. I knew I'd not see it often, or at all, elsewhere. That restaurant is in Memphis. I don't know whether it still serves beef or not. They basically used it in many dishes where lamb or goat was more normal, just for the Americans who wanted beef instead.

    Roger

In my long and varied life I have done many things with Spam and its competition.

I absolutely agree that nicely crisped Spam is absolutely the BEST way to eat it. I like that, on toast, with or without cheese, or just plated next to my eggs, in lieu of bacon. A smear of mustard finishes off a sandwich perfectly.

I have also made some surprisingly good casseroles, using Spam (or a competitor) in lieu of ham or other meats. These casseroles, and other "after childhood" uses of Spam, were, sometimes, sort of "depression" food, as in "My wallet is depressed and I can't really afford healthy food" or, less often, "I'm depressed and don't really WANT to do much in the way of cooking but know I have to eat, and I'm not so depressed that I can't/won't eat" and Spam is a relatively cheap, filling protein and fat that's easy to work with and eat.

For me to be so depressed or stressed that I just won't eat is so very rare that it's almost never happened, though I have had a few times when there was way too much stress and/or a loved one (human or animal) was sick/dying and my appetite was severely curtailed. During those rare times Spam could be a life saver, along with other highly processed, salty, packaged foods that one could just pretty much mindlessly open and consume. At least I ate SOMETHING.

I've read of people in such situations saying that they were so down that everything just tasted like sand to them and this only added to the depression. I'll have to say that I've never been that far down, thank goodness! Even in my lowest of lows, once I actually prepared some food and got around to eating it, it generally still tasted good. I just didn't WANT it, regardless of whether it tasted good or not.

And, of course there have been a few times with a bad cold or sinus infection where my sense of taste was altered and food just didn't taste good, even if I felt hungry, but I'd eat it anyway.

Nowadays, since my metformin requires food with it (I think it's assisted by the fat), it's pretty much a given that I'll be eating at least three times a day, even if it's just enough snacks to go with the metformin.

Pity is that I will usually eat more than needed, given half a chance. LOL.

But I will take that over depression/stress any day.

    :)

Wow! A cold front must have come through, but with no moisture.

58 out there now and an expected high of only 75 with 0% chance of rain. Howdy y'all. It's scintillating Sunday!

My breakfast pasta and cheese (I made this!) is just about ready in the microwave, being on it's last cycle of 50% cooking to just finish up thickening the sauce.

I'll add some pepper and chow down in a minute.

    Need to do laundry today.

    I just heard a ding!
    Hi Ed
When the cold front came through yesterday parts of NJ and NY had rain. It seems to have split to the North and South of us here.

If I said I would have ordered the Beef versions, does that make strange ?

Overeating is so easy for me that I try and only buy serving sized portions in the Grocery Store :)

Being depressed makes me eat, Sadly.

I gather that Poor College students tend to the really cheap Ramen packages for food. OTOH I have within the last year seen articles or news about food bank outlets on campuses for students so that eating mostly Ramen may be on the decline.

I am so happy that so far I have managed to get my BS reading back to normal with the weight loss and the NS diet.

If I don't say HI, right now it won't happen!
Jack is coming to help with cutting back some shurbs that have gotten WAY out of control, and the littles will be with him. Olivia is going to be so mad she may not speak to me.... I asked her Thurs. night after Gymn. if she was coming to Nate's hockey game and she ASSURED me she would be there...so I told her I was glad, as I had a surprise for her ..... well the surprise was her Uncle Ted who she's been asking about... but Olivia decided to sleep in, so she didn't come, telling her Mom it was ok, cuz she'd be seeing Gram on Sunday. Well, yep, she'll see Gram, but the 'surprise' will not be here.
Roger like your toaster oven, you should get a lot of use from it, and 'brother' should like the 'toaster' part. Sounds like a win for both of you!
As Ed mentioned we had a cold front come thru... :) Its going to be a great day for yard work!
Cartoons are great again Roger...loved the little toddler 'walking' the Great Dane!
Ok, need to get mybreakfast, feed Tom E. and be ready for the crew to arrive in about 2 hours, or less.

    Howdy y'all. It's marvelous Monday!

58 out there now with an expected high of 78 and 0% chance of rain.

Sink is cleared. Still that last load of towels and whites, from yesterday, in the dryer, to freshen and fold, as I forgot about them last night.

Sink is cleared. I have had breakfast and the cats will get their breakfast in a while. I'm trying to shift them to later pending the time shift!

Here's my breakfast: Whole grain (40 calorie/slice, low carb) toast, peanut butter, salad dressing (mayo could be substituted), bacon, and thinly sliced sweet, yellow onion.

Don't judge me. It was introduced to me years ago by someone who liked them and dared a bunch of us to try it before judging. I was one of the few who dared. I'm so glad I did as it's DELICIOUS and has become one of my favorite, albeit rarely eaten, sandwiches.

The terms BCE and CE have been used by some for YEARS, and are, as far as I'm concerned, interchangeable with BC and AD. I recognize and respect both ways of referencing the years. I grew up, of course, with BC and AD but you know what? I'm flexible enough, even at my advanced age (39. :) ) to go with the flow and accept a different notation, because it really doesn't make ANY DIFFERENCE TO ME and doesn't interfere with my religious beliefs at all. It's just a numbering system. They could even keep both without bothering me, and teach that they are interchangeable. IMO there are far more important things to get bent about...

Morning..news considered I'd shudder to call it good.
I've seen the peppermint/Dementia story before. Causation/Correlation may not be the same, but often it does point science in the right/new direction.
O was not upset...somebody clued her in before she got here, so she knew she'd missed seeing her uncle. She DID however remember that I'd promised to let her look thru my make up for any that looked 'interesting' to her... well, that's one drawer I won't have to clean out again for awhile!!! LOL! She was surprised and thrilled to find things like Smash Box products and Urban Decay...
We played Monopoly while Jack worked!! Nate left the game early to go play with his stick and street puck...Olivia had the most money when the game ended, but Gram owned a LOT of property. So we called it a draw (though most likely in the end I'd have won....(my story and I'm sticking with it!) LOL!

Two days and we head for the beach. Looked at the weather, and I see 4 days of rain! Which is ok...just remember rain coat and umbrella. And switch lunches from cold foods like salad, to toasty warm things like soup! (Dinners are eaten out or take out...no cooking!) I've got enough books on my Kindle app that I could stay 6 months! Marietta will be happier with movies and magazines! Poor old Doug will be stuck in lectures and classrooms all day.

Ok, I need to get some work done around here...I just ate, but need to call Tom E. for his breakfast. Bet he's enjoying this breezy and quite cool morning...
