Howdy y'all. It's sensational Saturday! A bit on the cool side, but not too terrible. Lilo is enjoying my lap at the moment. I was actually up at obscene o'clock with a charley horse but fifteen minutes of heat therapy made that feel lots better and then Lilo and I went back to bed.
Lunch and a board meeting later at a nice restaurant in Sandy Springs. Then probably a stop at the hardware store and the Farmers Market. I need ghee and a couple of other items, and always look at the fruit to see what's looking good.

Good Saturday Morning!
Ed, when did you fly to Hawaii? LOL!! It was 36 on my back porch this morning....
I've been up for awhile, eaten my breakfast...QUESTION...how did I manage to go to the grocery yesterday, with a list that said..bananas & broccoli, and come home with neither? I did get lots of veggies so lack of broc, is no biggie....but to forget my every morning banana????? Geezzzz!!
Doggie sitting for my friend M's little wiggle worm puppy this afternoon. He's a 4 month old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Cute as a button. I'll have a fun time.
No hockey today, and possibly tomorrow...Nate is sick. The Doc said Paraflu, but his symptoms do not match the disease...so I am hoping they take him back for a better diagnosis today.
That's about it for now...will start a pot of beans when I get home tonite for breakfast and next week when I get home tonite. Load of clothes to fold..busy day!!!! LOL!!!
OH!! Roger I loved the picture you took of the heron! They are such neat birds and everybody loves them...except down here, where they feast in the back yards of folks who have Koi Ponds!!!

Hi All
I was out walking today, cold, 26 degrees in a nearby town, 31degrees on the close in front porch, Frost on the cars and lawns as I started out. Walking it was cold in the shade and when I got into the Sun those areas were OK. I walked by the Post Office and mailed a CC payment, then to the 7-Eleven for a extra large coffee refill, $1.34, $1.92 if not a refill so a decent saving
It is now a nice sunny day outside. I have a NS Honey Bagel set out for my mid Morning PF + SC snack per plan.
I finally hit a weight below Thanksgiving morning today. Tough Holiday, I knew most of it would come quickly as it went up to fast to be a true weight gain. OTOH I stayed in Onderland
Have a Great Weekend

Hi Ed
I used to wake up that way multiple days of the week until I added some minerals and a daily Banana at breakfast. I hope I don't jinx myself saying that
So much better not getting woken up in pain.
Good Luck

Hi Valerie
Don't feel bad, I do that sort of thing all the time.
Koi pond owners hate them here too. How the Ducks, Geese and wading birds don't have foot problems from the cold water this time of year I do not know.
The Ducks in that picture were swimming past the Heron and it took no notice
Have a good day

Howdy y'all. It's scintillating Sunday! Breakfast is eaten, Lilo is in my lap, and dishwasher is running. I do need to eventually get to my tea but that can wait until Lilo moves or my legs get too stiff and I finally make her move.
Yesterday's board meeting ran LOOOOOOONG, but since I'm not on the board (J is on the board) I was able to eat and then go play games on my phone in a corner.
My plan (that actually got executed!) was to go to the restaurant, see if I liked the sound of the soup of the day, and eat a bowl of that soup (if I did like the sound of it) along with a wedge salad. The soup was listed on the chalk board as Hoppin' John, so I knew what I was having without bothering to look at the printed menu.
I usually make Hoppin' John with blackeyed peas, ham, rice, onions, garlic, salt and spices. And I usually make it as a rice dish, rather than as a soup, but I like it either way. In fact, I'll likely make some for the new year, along with my hog jowl, collard greens and cornbread. The restaurant used sausage and bacon instead of ham, but it was quite tasty all the same and I definitely approve of their recipe. So far I've never had a soup there that I didn't like, though the one time I had the white bean "chili" I really think I would not have called that soup chili. It was very good, with white beans, some chili seasoning, chicken, kale, onions, garlic, etc. It did not remotely resemble any bowl of chili I've had or made, ever. Not even white chili at other restaurants or home made. I would have called it white bean and kale soup. Regardless, I did like it and would have it again if offered.
I think the soup of the day at this restaurant is just whatever the chef's fertile mind tosses together for that day and feels like making. It's probably his or her "fun" item as the rest of the stuff is all pre-defined on the menu and doesn't have a lot of room for playing with the food, other than perhaps subbing an extra egg (for the bacon that J didn't want) and leaving off the toast that he didn't want.
If I were running a restaurant I fear the majority of the daily menu would have to be whatever I felt like playing with that day and you couldn't count on today's spaghetti to taste exactly like the one you had two weeks ago because I might have had a different idea today. LOL. I might be able to make a FEW "standard" items but I like playing with my food too much to make the same old things day after day.

Hi All
Colder this morning despite that the forecast is for warmer daytime temperatures. Local Bank showed 28 Degrees at 8:22AM
Local Weather on the News12 Cable News channel showed 2 or 3 degrees colder than the night before, I believe it too. I could feel it in my fingers when I took the gloves off to clear my nose or photograph Christmas displays while walking.
Signs seen in front yards: In a flowerpot, Keep Calm and Bloom. In another yard a flag reading, Grandchildren spoiled here Elsewhere, Love Blooms here and another saying Welcome Friends.
Have a Good Sunday

Hi Ed
I do not think Your idea is that far fetched, I have heard that even with frozen dinners they change the recipe to change the taste regularly so that buyer do not get bored with the same old thing all the time.
Some things I would not tinker with are standard things like French Fries or Hamburgers but all else is fair game.
Cheers

Hi,
I posted in a rush earlier,...thought I was going to a hockey game...only to get showered, coifed, and dressed...when the text came....Nate's not going. Parents decided that his paraflu had not run its course and that he shouldn't play. I understand from subsequent posts that the kid is FURIOUS!!! I reminded DS1 that the kid would get over being furious faster than he would pneumonia, which can follow paraflu in kids after the bronchial part. I know Nate's mad!!! I recall having to make the same parental judgement calls when my boys were kids.
Watching the noon news, and former President Jimmy Carter has been declared cancer free. Makes me happy!
Roger...do I spoil grands?? Maybe somewhat, but I do enforce certain rules as well.
I loved the signs in your neighborhood! Maybe Ed's neighborhood is more decorative than mine...mostly I see football team flags!!! I may have to go looking for a flag!

Good Morning...its Monday again!
Sunny, colder than I like, but not freezing.
My main goal today is to get myself to the gym! Getting stiff and sore from lack of exercise.
Will probably make a Walmart run to stock up on cat food, so I don't have to go back with the holiday shoppers later on! Planning to build the 'cat pantry' to last into the 2nd week of January 2016!
Will check back later to see what Roger is up to today

Hi All
It was cold when I went out this morning, when I went out later to buy a new belt (NSV) it was much better.
Tomorrow is the next tough day, My Brother & I are having lunch with a friend and she decided that a Chinese Buffet would be a nice change, from Thai food or the Diner. I am not afraid of finding items I can eat as much as the sauce on them, Example Chicken Broccoli is OK except for the sauce, The Green beans or Cabbage would be OK but usually in a Butter sauce and so on. If it is like the other one they will have a fresh Fruit section and Desserts.
Have a great Monday

Having had pneumonia it is no joke, better to be safe than sorry, It landed me in the hospital one year.
I did find one thing about that surprising, that the Cancer was gone so soon. Good for him. Jimmy does good work with Habitat for Humanity.GardenKatGardens wrote: »Oh, oh.....I was perusing recipe's from Food 52, and online foodie sorta website...

Hi Again
FWIW I was out to the Walmart for the belt, $7 seemed a good price to me. Anyway back to what I started to say, it was much busier today than last week when I was out there looking for Christmas Window Decorations. After we got home, then my brother remembered that last year he went to Michael's for that sort of thing
Good Luck

Howdy y'all. It's terrific Tuesday! Yesterday wasn't great, as they didn't have anyone assigned to relieve me and had to call someone in. They have known for two weeks that there was no one on middles this week, but hadn't told me what, if anything, they'd done about it. Yesterday, the one who came in, did tell me and I'll be working some over on Wednesday and Thursday, which is fine if I KNOW ABOUT THAT in advance so I can plan accordingly. I'm definitely going to be applying for other work. I can run this fuel center for them but not without resources.
Off to the salt races.

Hi
It was somewhat warmer this morning, Most Likely not going to be a good day as I'll be having lunch at a Chinese Buffet with a friend, they selected it
Poking around on the Internet I found that Dunkin Donuts gives a free donut with a large or extra large coffee. If anybody goes there
My Lucky Brother won a $75 50-50 drawing and everybody got a $50 Shoprite Grocery Store Gift card at his meeting as well as a hot buffet lunch which he did not really need the day before We go to the Hibachi grill today for lunch. Now if he could get that lucky with the Lottery tickets.
Have a Great Wednesday

Hi!!
No longer morning! I did make it to the gym,...even though I slept til nearly 10a.m.!! LOL!!
And a quick run thru Publix. I wanted the fresh asparagus they have on sale, and some broccoli as I'd eaten all I had at the house.
Also bought some 'fake' chicken, and intend to run it thru the microwave, cool it, chop it, and make myself some chicken salad for lunch.
Its wonderful sunny and warm here thru Saturday. Sunday not so warm, and rain sets in Monday. So I hope to get in some good 'outdoor time' the next few days.
Tomorrow is Chiro day.

Hi All
It is somewhat warmer this morning, not a lot but every little bit helps. We are in a slow warming trend through the weekend
The Chinese Buffet Yesterday was not good for people dieting. If I likes Seafood then it would have been better, Grilled Fish, Squid, Clams, Sushi etc. I did have some tender beef in a brown gravy, A slice of Ham, Some Chicken Broccoli, Heavy on the Broccoli, Some fresh fruits and and it would have been OK except that the Carrot Cake kept calling my name. I am retaining water today most likely from the sauces.
FWIW I have tried two No Sugar Added Sweet Gherkin Pickles, Vlasic found at Walmart and Mount Olive found at the Shoprite Grocery store. Both show Zero calories per serving, Which means that they are under 5 calories per serving. That makes them a nice sweet crunchy snack.
Have a Good Wednesday

I wish I could eat Asparagus and my brother says Broccoli is contraindicated with his meds. We would both like both now and then

Chiro trip was worth 3 times the cost! Amazing what that woman can achieve without snapping or cracking or any other Chiro-like stuff. She uses a manipulative technique that puts spine, hips, etc back into place...
Roger, the fake chicken said it needed to be cooked, and I wasn't taking any chances! The chicken salad was tasty. Would have been perfect with some toast...but...well, you all understand..
Yep, Chinese foods can be quite salty....and check on the labels of those pickles....I know Dill pickles are LOADED with salt...not sure about the sugar free ones....but worth a look. I hate salty water weight! Such a let down. Next time you eat salty...drink lots and lots of water...and 'float' that salt right out of your body. (Trips to the bathroom count as exercise )
I'm drinking today...picked up some seitan strips prepared in sauce for fajitas, and some of the chicken fried tofu...so its 'bottoms up' & more water please here too!!
Ok, I've got some shopping to do online. I very well may wait until tomorrow...not sure yet!

How can I already at 10 a.m be so far behind in what I need to do today??? UGH!
Hope your day goes well Ed, and you can get that bit of concrete bleached....(not sure why?) not oil stains, I wouldn't think to disinfect??? (I'm about to learn something! ) And thats a good thing!!!
Its going to be beautiful here for the next few days....bright and sunny already today. Yesterday I finally got outside and set up two little spiral white light trees, and set the little artificial tree in the front window so my house has SOME semblance of Christmas. I used to have two big plastic flat candy canes that had red and green lights, and they hung in the front windows, but after many years they bit the dust!!
Today looks like Costco for Nate's Mindcraft book set, and gas for the car...Costco gas is $1.78 today. Nice!!! I need to cook some beans, again already! And do a bit of kitchen prep for future meals. Got the dishwasher unloaded last night before bed time struck...laundry is swishing away..soon to be moved to the dryer. And the list goes on....
Roger I hope you've had a good walk! You said your weather was improving thru the weekend so I hope you get some pleasant walks in.

I was out walking today + 1 Cent, I looped through the Quick Chek for Coffee, Down and around to the Produce store for Bananas since I was out. I also picked up a Head of Lettuce for me and two for my Brother, Zuchinnis and Cherry Tomatoes for him too. A small package of Raspberries and Blackberries for SC portions. I just managed to fit it all in the Backpack, Darned heavy too. Then I staggered on home

Hi Valerie
Well the label shows 140Mg for a 1oz serving, 2 pickles and 11 servings per jar so not that bad I believe
I do not blame You for following the directions and cooking, I would too. Lots of water, Well yes but if it gets you up every hour all nightlong, no fun.
Not sure I understand on the toast unless it is the calories? I use a 40 to 45 calorie per slice Whole Wheat bread for that sort of thing.
I always hated those cracking sounds, I just don;t think they are right. You are lucky to have found someone that can do it silently.
Cheers

I'm going to go out on a limb and hope I do not hear sawing sounds behind me and guess that there were more price increases than price reductions
Be careful with that bleach, I would ask for a concrete cleaner solution instead TBH
I have seen how bleach can eat things up when concentrated. The hard wooden floors of trailers used to transport bleach need replacing fairly often.
Cheers

Hi Again
Yup it was a nice walk until I overloaded myself with produce
I wish I had an outside plug for exterior decorations. That is why I am mainly using lighted things in the windows. That sounds like a reasonable price for gas to me. Costco is usually one of the lowest cost fuels around too. When they added a new one on the highway recently they put in a lot of pumps. The One I usually go to has no fuel.
Cheers

Roger you cracked me up with the climbing out on a limb, hoping not to hear sawing!
And....bet that backpack wasn't nearly as many pounds heavy as the pounds you've lost on NS!!
Good with the pickles!!!
Problem with toast, is I am allergic/sensitive to wheat and other grain flours. Between that and the sugar sensitivities it puts a real kabosh on eating! Good thing I love veggies! (and can get away with 2 fruits a day)....Otherwise I'd be out grazing on the lawn.
Still haven't gotten to Costco, but headed that way....after I leave there, assuming I find the Minecraft book set Nate wants....the bulk of my shopping will be done. Only will need to pick up two gift cards for the older neighbor children, and something 'gifty' for the littler one.
Whew!!! Now only to sweat they all get here on time. Not worried about the Amazon stuff. Its the couple items coming from other sources...like the NHL site, and the American Girl doll items, etc. This year I VOW to wrap these things as the arrive...no excuses! (I promise this every year...ask me what I do on Christmas Eve every year!! LOL!! )

I have seen how bleach can eat things up when concentrated. The hard wooden floors of trailers used to transport bleach need replacing fairly often.
Cheers

It IS a concrete cleaner powder. But its main function is to bleach out the oil and gasoline stains. I can apply it as powder or mix it into a suspension (that has to be shaken frequently) and spray it. I find it seems to work better on really bad spots as powder that I kind of grind into the concrete with the hard bristled push broom, and then sweep off the excess. It's called Eximo.
Dinner tonight was just frozen pizza. I was tired so bought some at work before coming home to nap. It worked out well. I had Tombsone Diablo pizza (quite nicely spicy!) and J had cheese pizza, also Tombstone.
I'll be having Diablo pizza for breakfast too, of course...

Howdy y'all. It's fabulous Friday! Working a long one today, supposedly 10 hours. If anyone tries to make it go longer, then they may have a shut down fuel center. At last check, they have not, as yet, hired or even interviewed anyone but they better get on the ball. I can work A extra hours during Christmas break but once that's over he's back to his standard 15 hours over Saturday and Sunday and that's it for him. I'll give him 40 during break, more if he wants and they'll allow it. But we need at least one more, maybe two.
Weather should be fairly nice today. 52 out there right now and supposed to see 70 today!

Hi, Happy Friday!
Looking thru the woods to the back of the elementary school..its recess time. I can't see actual children, just figures running ..playing some kind of game. Great they can go outside and run off lunch! Spring and any time there are leaves, I can only hear...and it sounds like there's a mass murderer on the grounds. Alarmed me first time I heard it! LOL!!
I had a plan for today...we'll see if it happens!! Feeling lazy. And its 70 degrees outside at 12:30p. I think a day outing is more important!

Hi All
I have been out walking + $1 and then to Lowes,I am back now. The weather is not to bad currently.
I am, listening to a Old Time Radio show called Suspense, episode Island of the Dead in the background.
Cheers
Roger
Well that one ended and I am now listening to Suspense, The Creaking Door episode called Don't go down the mineGardenKatGardens wrote: »Roger you cracked me up with the climbing out on a limb, hoping not to hear sawing!
LOL!! )

Hi Valerie
For the backpack to be that heavy it would have to be huge and filled with lead weights
Allergies stink. One of the Ladies we had lunch with Tuesday has lots of allergies and that makes it tough.
Procrastination is OK As far as I am concerned as Long as it gets done. I am a card carrying member of the procrastinators league.
Good Luck

Hi Again
When I am out back in the yard I can hear the kids playing during recess too. They must be 4 or more blocks away, I can only guess how loud it is by the school.
Cheers

Howdy y'all. It's sensational Saturday! Supposed to be fairly nice today. We have photography at the orchid judging again. Seems like we just did that! I may get back to bed for a bit more sleep yet...woke up with a cramp about to happen so walked to forestall it.

Good Saturday Morning
Early start for me...hockey morning across town. FOGGY out there right now! And 50 degrees. Nice way to start the day. Fog makes me think I'm in England, and there's scary stuff just around the next corner! LOL!!!
Sweet Potatoes Ed! better yet Google list of Magnesium rich foods. Does wonders for muscle cramps. If none of those foods sound good, you can resort to pills. 250 mg strength. The problem is that because of a shift in how our foods are grown, (talking veggies here), the soil is deficient in Magnesium...so that we're not getting what we should from food. Look for some organic farmers at the farmers market of your choice...or look into CSA boxes. I'd love to do that, but it would probably be too much produce for just one person.
Roger, Good Morning! Hope you have a foggy morning to walk in....makes it fun, and things just look different on foggy mornings!

Yeah, allergies are a pain when you're trying to eat out. However it could be worse...my great Aunt, who I spent summers with in St. Louis for better paying jobs, became severely allergic to orange juice and strawberries. Swelling tongue, unable to breathe, etc...panic time in my opinion. At least mine are associated with incredibly itchy skin, etc. (except crab which give me panic time episodes!)
Ok, off to the shower, and breakfast...hockey, Whole Foods on the way home, and then gym time. I will be able to 'rescue' this week and know I've walked enough 3 days this week. Next week I WILL do better.

Hi All
When I left this morning it was slightly warmer than Yesterday, By the time I got home I had removed my gloves and would have removed my sweatshirt if I had not been a few blocks from home. Warming up outside nicely, I think I'll go crack some more Black Walnuts while it is really nice later on
Have a Nice Saturday

Hi Valerie
What is a CSA box?
Walking in the fog is different, in many ways it reminds me of when the snow is falling in that everything becomes much quieter outside and muffled by the fog.
Saw the Blue Heron below the dam this morning while walking.
Hard to believe it is less than 2 weeks to Christmas already
Have a Nice day
