Howdy all y'all. It's thrilling Thursday! It's cold out there and will only get up to 49 today so when I get out, later, I may need a jacket. Having dealt with our first cat's renal failure issues many years ago, I know the routine. Depending on how effective the flushing with fluid treatments is, she my go on for years, or possibly (likely) months yet. I will do my best to keep her comfortable and try to know when it's time to let her go. Letting them go doesn't get easier, no matter how old I get, but it is part of the package when adopting a pet.

Last night I introduced the sugar gliders to dates. I happened to see a bag of plain, pitted dates while shopping, so, after a quick bit of research to make sure they could eat them, brought them home to see if they would like dates. This morning there isn't a lot of it left in their bowls so I would say that they liked it well enough. The remainder in their bowls may disappear before feeding time tonight.

For a Thursday throwback, here is a picture of me and my oldest brother, from 1984. I loved that plaid shirt and wish I still had one just like it!

Day 19 in the wine calendar is now Chileing...er I mean chilling in the refrigerator.

And...as of yesterday, we have a sidewalk!

Howdy all y'all. It's fantastic Friday! They still have a little bit of sidewalk to pour on the other side of our driveway, on across the neighbor's driveway, and they still have to pour the lower part of her driveway, that they tore up months ago, to install the new drainage conduit. I think she may be out of town this weekend, so that would work out well for her, if so. If not, she and her daughter can park in our driveway for a couple of days. My vehicle is the only one home right now, and I don't get out that much.

Here is a picture from December 20th, three years ago, of me, an old friend from high school, and one of my younger sisters, taken at a mall, by the old friend's husband. Or is that me? Maybe it's Santa Claus, incognito...as you can see, I was a bit heavier 3 years ago.

Oh Ed! I've watched Wolfe video...still hate to listen to that man talk, but he made several valid points about his cheap eats for 10 people. Then for further punishment I watched the gal go thru Aldi's, and it was an Aldi's store, buying a weeks worth of food for $10. She did a great job. But what she said at the very end of the video had me go back and listening twice. "I enjoyed the Wal-Mart challenge' is what I heard. That should curdle the blood of the Aldi's peeps!! LOL!

After our coffee turned lunch yesterday I made my trip thru Kroger..I know, swore I wasn't going back there, BUT, I had these coupons for mostly pantry items and saved myself a bit over $7. Guess everybody has their price...lol

Went to the gym, and was home by 4p. a short nap and dinner, and watched a Hockey game with Ted. So it was a good fun day!

Glad the Sugar Gliders liked the dates...not surprised they feasted on them. Dates are delicious. I use them frequently to sweeten food dishes. And a few...well lets say I consider dates as being nature's candy bars grown on trees! I have a pound of medjool dates coming in my MisFits box today. $1.99. I have reservations about this item!

Great pix of you and your brother! And your shirt...very nice. Wonder where to find a duplicate...I'd start looking in 'Western' type catalogues? or online?

Right now I have to make a dash to get back into my gym clothes, and get that off my list. MisFits box coming later today. And more video's to watch over my lunch..

Take care my friend, thanks for a great lunch yesterday...we'll have to do it again soon! My turn to treat! :)

Howdy all y'all. It's satisfying Saturday! It's cool and partly rainy today.

They still have some clean-up and finishing touches to do on the sidewalk project, but yesterday I think they finished all the concrete on our street. My neigbor's last bit of sidewalk was poured yesterday, along with the small adjoining portion of our yard, on the north side of the driveway, and the neigdbor's lower driveway replacement. I think she is out of town for the weekend and had requested that the last bit be done at this time so she wouldn't have to worry about getting in and out while the concrete cures, or being in my way by using our driveway, which would not have been a problem for me. I can understand her not wanting to intrude though.

As the sidewalk in front of our house had cured for a couple of days, they opened it to pedestrian traffic yesterday afternoon, I took a walk ahter dinne, up the hill to the elementary school, and back. Would you believe through the snow, barefoot, and uphill to come back too? No - I didn't think so. LOL

Day 21 in the wine countdown calendar visits California again.

    Hey Ed!
Little late for me to just get logged in. And I need to clean the kitchen. I have a skillet of curly kale to store in the refrigerator, and a large steamer of sweet potatoes too...as well as all the utensils that I used to dirty up the kitchen. AWK!!

I hope you're not inviting the snow with your walk to the school!!! LOL I've always loved that story..

I ate one of those little Panettone's. Had a piece last night after my MisFits box came, (finally at 8:30) and the rest of it this morning for breakfast! It was delicious.
This weeks box was 'loaded'...8 small pears, (mixed varieties), 2 lemons, a nice big spaghetti squash, 4 small purple potatoes, 2 tomatoes, 4 pink ladies, a nice sized head of good looking cauliflower, curley kale, 2 onions, and 3 mystery round black things...some kind of beet? maybe? I'll know when I wash and cut into one, I hope. and a nice big celery root. I think those keep pretty well, I sure hope so. I now have 3 stalks of celery and the celery root...talk about celery overload! I am going to cancel the MisFits service though after new years. The problem is not with MisFits, but with Fed-EX. 2 out of the 3 boxes that I have gotten were late night deliveries...I just don't appreciate 15 pounds of produce arriving at my bedtime. The one that came at 4is in the afternoon was great...but. If I lived in an area where organic fruit and veg's were not easy to find it might be a different story...but Kroger, Whole Foods, Aldi's etc all close by. I do like the concept of the business. But Fed-EX has ruined it for me.

How are the sugar gliders doing with the dates? THat's the other thing I got in my box. It was an add on, but a pound box of medjool dates for $1.99 was too good to pass up!

Glad your driveway and sidewalk are finished. I know you are!

    Ok, Kitchen calls

You know, that delivery might improve after this big holiday season. Or you might check and see if they have any other delivery options besides FedEx.

They like the dates well enough, especially the darker (more ripe) ones, that also seem to be a bit smaller. I have eaten a couple of dates myself, as snacks. And yes, I can eat just one!

Howdy all y'all. It's soggy Sunday! 100% chance of rain on this cool day, and my trick knee is feeling it. I will still try to get in a mile or more of indoor walking. If I had room for a treadmill I would consider one, but I KNOW that it would turn into a clothes rack anyway, so why waste the money? As for a gym membership...I tried that once but stopped going because of weather and other traffic problems, so I just work out what I can do on my own without spending money I can't really afford anyway.

Indoor walking around in the house confuses the heck out of the cats. They don't know WHAT I am up to and Dinah sometimes follows me around for a while trying to figure it out. A little extra exercise won't hurt her either. I do have to keep an eye out for any traps (toys or "gifts") they may leave in the way, but it's doable.

It is raining now and supposed to roid ALL DAY. I am not going anywhere. I had dinner out with a friend last night (soup and salad at Panera Bread) and stopped at Publix on the way home to get whatever I might need until after Christmas (I hope) so I won't have to worry about that.

Day 22 in the wine countdown calendar is this Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand.

Howdy all y'all. It's marvelous Monday! Still raining here, but we may have some respite for a while in the middle of the day. That was the wettest weekend we have had in a while! That may prove to be a good thing here as our mailbox was set too close to the road and I need to get the workers to move it a foot or so to one side and 6 inches or so back, so that it won't hang over the curb at all. Or just do it myself. But it's easier with two people doing it. The ground should be about as diggable as it's going to get!

I've given Lilo her fluid treatment (and treats) and she is now grooming to clean off any drops of fluid and my cooties from gently holding her in place while the drip ran. She is taking the treatment very well, all things considered. She doesn't like it, and would leave if she could but isn't really fighting me at all. I have the bag set up in the laundry room, hanging off a clothing rack/shelf. I have a towel for her draped over the rod, that I lay on the dryer. She gets two treats to eat right off, and then has to recline on the towel while gravity does its thing and the drip drips, which really doesn't take long at all, just a few minutes. I talk to her and scritch under her chin (she loves that) while it drips, and when the appropriate volume has gone in, shut it off, pull the day's needle out, give her two more treats, and put her on the floor, open the door to the laundry room to let her out, and clean up for the next time. Easy peasy for now.

Day 23 (one day left in the calendar now, Christmas Eve) is back to Australia.

    Good Early Morning!
I don't know why...up since 6. Ted teasing me saying that if I stay up I won't be able to stay awake during the Flyers hockey game at 7..yep seven tonite. HA! Yes I will, I'll take a nap! LOL!

Tom E. goes out each morning with Ted and Maya. And it whets his appetite..I looked out the back door this morning, and he came flying in from the back yard, and demanded to eat! (or maybe he has noticed that when Maya comes in from her walk, she gets to eat?
Until Ted moved in I had an indoor walk, but he's in the front rooms now, so my walk space is pretty...VERY limited. My $10 gym isn't that expensive, but I haven't kept up with all the new places...so not sure what might be in your area. Also keep in mind that its only a mile from my house. It gets me out the door...

Sitting here laughing....my box had 'purple potatoes, and I forgot to mention these 3 black globe shaped 'things'...I know I've seen them once or twice at Whole Foods, but I really hadn't paid attention to them, and I looked at these, put them in a plastic produce bag, popped them into the refrig. It was too late to go poking around the internet. So, this morning I went looking. Thru an accident of 'fumble fingeredness' I happened on a part of MisFits that I knew existed, but hadn't paid much attention to....and there were my purple potatoes....and those truly ugly black things. I'll try to send you the screen shot I made from the misfits web page. I think it will make you laugh or at least grin!
Oh, and I can eat just one medjool at a time too...one time, two times, another time..etc. Seriously...2 is good, 3 and you're 'over' eating them again for several days!

Yesterday was a nasty, nasty day. Not super cold..but windy and wet. Ugly combo. Ugly enough that I went to the gym, ran into the market for banana's, and then straight home. If I had sidewalks I could walk to the gym...in fact I have several times.... gym is 0.9 miles, and I can cut off a bit of that by crossing cattywhompus thru a corner parking area...I've walked it several times. But, you really have to pick your times...peeps here are pretty sloppy about parking in the street...and I DO mean IN the street...not pulling over to the edge of the street either! Irritates the heck out of me, but it is what it is....

Today will be the 21st day of my 23 day Apple Watch Monthly Challenge. SO....today, Tues, and Thursday and I've earned my December badge! Crazy, I know...but it keeps me interested, and motivated. So, I guess it serves its purpose.

Ok, coffee is cold, and a slice of the second Panettone bread lightly toasted is sounding mighty good...

    Later...

(did you notice what the purple potatoes really are?) LOL! So......

You must let me know how the black radishes taste! I have never heard of black radishes before.

For Christmas Eve, day 24, the last day in the wine countdown calendar, we visit France again.

While still not overly fond of the bubbles themselves, I am, over the years, slowly developing a better appreciation of sparkling wines. Some of them can be quite tasty.

    ckauprn0pgr0.png

The poor little calendar now looks so sad and empty...but it needn't be sad. I have enjoyed the daily discovery, and liked all the wines, some more than others, of course. But I enjoyed them all and I am sure I will enjoy this last one too.

    Good Morning Ed,
I will try the black radishes after Christmas! I knew I'd seen that 'black globe' before, was just not clear where......I'm thinking WF, but I looked yesterday, and didn't see any. (not that that means much! LOL!)

Off to the gym. they're open til 1p today, and of course closed on Christmas day. :)

Tonite we are meeting Jack and family near 317 and P'Tree Industrial..for sushi. Should be interesting. I can't imagine my picky food grandchildren eating sushi.

Ted's out with the dog...for a good walk in one of the parks near here. So this is short, cuz I need to get gone before he comes home and discovers me still sitting at the computer in my p.j.'s and robe!! LOL!

Howdy all y'all. It's wonderful Wednesday! Merry Christmas to those who celebrate Christmas! It's going to be warm and sunny here.

I need to get the ham in the oven about...10ish I think. The scalloped potatoes and the green bean casserole can go in with the ham, just quite a bit later timewise. And that is the meal. Dessert will be frozen cheesecake with, perhaps, home made blueberry topping.

I am trying to keep things simple, especially since I will be dining alone and don't have to put extra vegetarian dishes out for vegetarian protein.

The first wine in the sparkling wine New Year countdown calendar is from Italy.

Ah, quiet, peaceful Christmas dinner is done and the leftovers put away. The ham bone (with a LOT of ham still on it) is in the freezer to go into my New Year black eyed peas. Some of the leftover sliced ham may make it to the freezer too, as I don't really expect our guest to want to eat in all that much. On the other hand, when she smells ham and eggs cooking for my breakfasts, she may want in on that!

I will finish off the green bean casserole over the next few days home meals and the others may help finish off the potatoes. I have another cheesey potato casserole (shredded potatoes) and some mac and cheese, along with a broccoli gratin, all ready to bake. And, I have some boiled eggs, ready to make into deviled eggs. Most of that is planned for New Year's day, as I expect to need more vegetarian protein and sides for that. I would be fine with just my black eyed peas, ham, collard greens, and cornbread, all of which I WILL be eating that day.

    Hey Ed!
Merry Christmas. ITs been a busy, busy, but wonderful day. And it was nicely warm and sunny! Saw or talked to my entire family today!!
    Your dinner sounded wonderful.
I was given a much bigger TV than the little 17 inch, 20 year old one that I have been watching. A complete surprise. Set up and ready to go when I got up...and a big voice yelling Ho HO hO, Merry Christmas! (from Ted in the front hallway!) I am amazed at what I can watch....SAW EMMY!! on YouTube! I can see many non-productive hours zooming by in the coming weeks/months!

I think I have room for one more piece of fruit cake, and then whatever is left goes into the trash. My knees are KILLING me....way, way too many treats this past month. I think I don't feel weather changes that others do with their knees...I suffer overload from sugar. Makes little to no sense, but...seems to hold true. Rats!!!

Not much to do tomorrow, I may really sleep in...or opt for a long, long afternoon nap. I will be making a trip to the gym...after my workout and calorie burn goals are met, along with standing and moving most hours....I will have reached my month of December goal. (meaning I have nearly a week of goofing off at the gym! Or even one 'not' day from the gym!!

    See you in the morning!...

Howdy all y'all. It's thrilling Thursday! It's going to be another warm day here, at least for this time of year.

Breakfast this morning was my usual favorite for Boxing Day. Ham, eggs, and toast. I might get out to Kroger today.

Today's sparkling wine from the New Year countdown calendar is from France. I generally like this varietal, but have never had it sparkling or dem-sec, so this one should be interesting. I generally prefer my wine dry. And gee...do you think they could have made this label any more pink? It looks like early Valentine's Day!

    Good Morning Ed.
Antonio is coming by to fix the diverter in my shower, and today is gym day also! After today, I will have completed the monthly exercise Apple Watch challenge! (and that means about 5 days of 'whatever' LOL!)

I need to get moving...so, later today I may be back to watch video's. :)

Meanwhile, the morning 've been eating breakfast, drinking my mushroom coffee, and watching a movie.

    So, Later...

Howdy all y'all. It's fantastic Friday! It should be another warm day, with 10% chance of precipitation today. I completed the final(?) move of the mailbox yesterday. I could have asked the contractors doing the sidewalk work to do that, when they come back to work, but I wanted a very specific placement, right up against the sidewalk, and a very specific depth. I figured...if you want it done right...and besides, it was good exercise.

After I finished that, and had some leftovers for lunch, I went out to four grocery stores. Two of them were Publix. One was Kroger, and the other was Aldi. And I picked up some canned cat food at PetSmart. Then I cleaned house a bit because we were expecting company. I had to pick her up at the MARTA station, and then we waited for J who was late driving back from Kentucky, due to traffic issues. We had a late supper at Waffle house, shared my little pink wrapped bottle of sparkling wine, and after chatting for a while and watcing all the cats running around like lunatics (J was back home AND we had company! Very exciting!) I went to bed.

This morning's breakfast was a rare treat, but something I always try to work in with leftover Christmas ham. Ham and Swiss on Pumpernickel with salad dressing and spicy brown mustard. AND POTATO CHIPS. The potato chips were the real rare treat, as I just don't have those often at all.

Today's wine from the New Year countdown calendar is in a blue bottle.

    Good Morning Ed,
I think your 'Special Post Christmas Breakfast Potato Chips' ( :) ) looked great! I used to love ham and cheese...swiss, gouda, provolone, munster...I wasn't picky. Usually toasted. I'd have shared my chips. I don't eat many of them. If they're around I do eat them, but chips are something I can easily ignore.

Glad J is back home. That and company ...I can see how the cats could be running around like a circus bunch of clowns! LOL!

Curious question...what are you doing with the empty bottles? For fun...in an inconspicuous back yard spot...I think they'd make a lovely (cough) bottle tree!!!

Yesterday Antonio came by, and now my shower/tub only does one thing at a time. No more showers with a fast drizzle from the tub faucet! It was more of a job than even Antonio expected, but its done and I'm happy!
He's going to install grab bars in my shower so I don't break my fool neck, and I'm getting a new toilet! A tall one to help keep my knees happy. Not sure when that will all happen...but knowing Antonio it'll be pretty soon. And that room will only have one other issue...and it involves a small window that leaks air like water thru a sieve. But, that chore will not happen til we have summer time, or at least spring. :)

New Years day, I will be researching growing mushrooms indoors, with my Lion's Mane mushroom kit! I'm excited. I've always wanted to do that. Then Jack and I got talking about growing shiitake on oak logs outdoors. My other wishful thinking job. Seems as though Jack has the oak logs. :) We may both try that...and they will grow out doors. But first will be getting my kit started.

Did I tell you about my creamy kale and potato soup I made last weekend? Tasty and green..I'll do that again. Great way to sue kale when you're sick to death of braised or steamed kale!

Ok, since I didn't follow thru with my gym plans from yesterday, TODAY is the day! Just need to get into my gym clothes, and the other chore today is my ole buddy Laundry....the white/lite clothes basket is full, the dark clothes basket is not only full but overflowing...sure sign, right?

Have a great day. I 'm guessing that this warm day may be our last until early spring...
OH OH OH...for months I've been meaning to ask...did you have a banana tree? and did said tree grace you with banana's? There is a banana tree that I pass every time I go thru my subdivision...short of getting out of the car and walking down a strangers driveway, I couldn't see a banana bunch this year...but there was a really nice one last year.

We have a banana tree, and this year it did produce a small, stunted bunch of bananas, but they rotted without ever reaching maturity. It was still exciting to see it bloom and then produce them though, as this is the first time we have seen that.

The bottles have been (and will be) disposed of, as our recycle does not accept glass and we are trying to de-clutter, so no bottle tree or the like. Squirrels would likely do things to it anyway and we would eventually end up with broken glass in the yard.

My REAL Champagne was delivered this morning. Much to my surprise, it was just left at the door. The driver could get in trouble for that, as it is supposed to require an adult signature. Maybe he saw me through a window as he was coming up, and decided to just sign for me. Pretty sure he is an adult, after all. LOL.

Howdy all y'all. It's simply Saturday! It should be another warm day. I need to get to an auto parts store for a bulb. One of my front headlights is out. I will actually replace them both so they will match in color and luminosity.

Breakfast today was oatmeal with blueberries and cream. Ham (of course) as a side protein, and a few tiny cubes of good white cheddar. I thought of having another ham and Swiss on Pumpernickel, but decided on oatmeal as a better carb for this morning, as my fasting blood glucose was on the high side at 130. Too much fun yesterday, I guess, though my readings were fine throughout the day. I did take in a bit more food than I have been eating, so that must have been stored up for release this morning to prepare me for the hard morning's work that isn't actually going to happen. I am doing laundry though!

    Good Morning Ed,
I need to get moving today...soon! Finished my monthly challenge yesterday and now I see a 'New Years' challenge.."we'll see" is all I can say!
I understand about the glass. Makes me sad, but I do also understand safety for the people who have to deal with possible broken glass injuries.

Its chore day, and more than mid morning...so far, I've had coffee, banana, mandarin, and an avocado toast...sadly I could eat again...but waiting for lunch of leftovers from VeGreen last night. It was delicious, but too much. So once again I got a 'to go' box. Suits me fine!

I may or may not make gym one of my 'to do's' today. Maybe later today.

Your 'white cheddar' made me giggle. My boys loved cheese, and grilled cheese sandwiches was something they could fix for themselves. (It was yellow sliced cheese...) Then we moved to New Hampshire...all cheddar was white. They wouldn't even touch it for quite awhile. Eventually they decided it was very good...and we moved to Virginia...white cheese could not be found...and we had to go thru the 'cheese process' all over again. In TN when quiche was at its heyday...wouldn't touch it. I got the 'real men down't eat quiche' BS... so in the future I made ham quiche and relabeled it as Ham and Cheese PIE...they ate it up! KIDS! LOL!

Ok, pandora is rockin out with 60-70 & 80's music...time to get moving!

Oh, about your banana's. Sorry they didn't make it. I know you were disappointed... Too hot last summer maybe? Or maybe they're a strain of the small but super delicious little banana's that I can get at the Mex. Market! Expensive little dudes!

    Good Morning Ed,
Sunday morning, and full of plans. :) We'll see what I 'really' get done!
Overcast skies, wish we'd get at least a peek at the sun today..but I don't think that will happen.

Not much to talk about today so I'll save your eyesight for another busier day..

Hope all is well at your house.

Ed!!! What the heck man? I did accidentally did find that post...too late to respond.
Hope this morning finds you feeling much better, and the results from your stress test and echocardiogram are all excellent. You're the second person I've known with this infection. I hope you had the good sense to have J drive you to emergency....or better yet you got a ride in an ambulance. (those peeps don't have to wait in the waiting room, they get a pass straight to doc's, tests, etc!)
I hope that you get your release papers today so you can go home, and get some rest! Hospitals don't believe in 'sleep'. LOL!! (and their beds aren't that comfy either as I'm sure you know by now!)

    Be well my friend.
    Sending hugs,
    Valerie

I'm BACK! I have been back for several hours, but we had to get dinner, get our weekend guest to the train station so she could go to the airport and fly home, and then I had to get my hands back from the cats. J had to entertain our guest without me. I don't think she found it too entertaining spending most of Saturday night at the hospital, where I got the last available bed at the last minute.

J drove me to the hospital, and came to get me.

I have never felt anything like this before and was sure it was a heart attack. Needless to say, I was glad to find out it wasn't one!

All the tests showed my heart is fine. I will be treating my case of pericarditis for at least a week and doing some follow up with my regular doctor.

Days 5 and 6 in the sparkling wine new year calendar, one of which may be consumed tomorrow, are below.

    Hello Ed!
Welcome back. I am so happy to see you, and to know that your heart is in great shape. Rather 'unusual' for us (ahem) older folks to have healthy hearts! Could you see the monitor screen during your echocardiogram? I could just barely see it. Took a few seconds for me to realize what I was seeing....my heart valves opening and closing, and the atria and ventricles contracting, etc. I thought it was neat!
Just curious, had you had any recent dental work, cleanings, etc. Sometimes that precedes peritonitis. Not sure why. And after brother Bud had his heart 'rebuild' he had to take antibiotics before dental work.
Glad as heck that J came to pick you up from the hospital!!!

SO, on with the future. After your disastrous meals in the hospital, I cant wait to hear what you ate once you were home and in you kitchen. Do you have your black eyed peas, collards, and corn bread ready for tomorrow? I need the corn bread and collards! I bought fresh black eyed peas at Publix when I was there 2 days ago. I hope they are good. Not fond of the canned ones. Frozen is Ok... So, have my sights set on Fresh being really good. We'll see.

I have my lottery tickets for tonite and tomorrow...thought I'd like to start the new year with some cash for a change. Also the Players Club has been doing a drawing for 'free dinners' on us...I think its $100 a month for a year....hungry??

As I said...WELCOME HOME! You were missed!!

Howdy all y'all. It's terrific Tuesday! 44 and sunny with an expected high of 51 and no chance of precipitation. I still have just a bit of trouble trying to sleep on a flat mattress, but managed it last night. Lying flat really intensifies the discomfort (that's a gentle, friendly word for PAIN FROM HELL) of pericarditis and the coincident breathing difficulty, since breathing in puts pressure on the pericardium.

I am taking a terrifying dosage of prescription ibuprofen, four times a day, along with a tiny pill of colchicine, twice a day, every day for a week to, hopefully, eliminate the remaining inflammation. The colchicine may help to keep it from recurring, though it's not totally understood how that works without continued prophylactic administration. I'll take that theory with a grain of salt.

And I have strict orders to take it easy for a couple of weeks. That part chafes a bit, but I understand. I may have been overdoing it a bit...and that may have contributed to the onset of pericarditis. I certainly didn't do anything else to bring it on or have any medical or dental procedures done recently.

At any rate, it's good to be home. I may need to lie down shortly.

The final bottle in the new year countdown calendar is from Spain.

Howdy all y'all. It's wonderful Wednesday! Happy New Year!

I stayed up to toast the new year in. I need to get my New Year food started in a couple of hours. I will let most of it simmer all day in slow cookers, saving the cornbread for last minute. I have several cheesy casseroles ready to bake for J and will make some deviled eggs as well. I will start all that about an hour before the rest is done. J doesn't care for black eyed peas or collard greens, so I will not bother to make vegetarian versions of either, and they will both be loaded up with pork.

And I still have laundry to fold, from the last load dried before I went into the hospital! I will get on that shortly. Maybe...

Dinah say's Happy New Year too! (The cats were interested in the loud POP from the kitchen, and my glass, but no Champagne for them!)

Good Morning Ed, and Happy New Year to you and J as well. Hope its a decade of health, happiness, and some extra cash in our bank accounts for all of us.

I bought fresh black eyed peas, why? because I saw them! Thought they might be interesting.
And I have to scrub the sink, so I can wash the collards and give them a good chopping. Corn bread is made. (Thank you Kroger.), I should get all of that 'going' and I can have it for lunch AND dinner...and tomorrow too! :) I'd never eaten black eyed peas until I moved to ATL..and some guys who lived in the apartment below mine came up to wish me Happy New Year...and said they were going to be gone for the day...soon as their blackeyed peas, and collards were done...and were mine already cooking? ?????? huh?? So, when I said I'd never had any of that...well they brought me some. It was delicious! And thus began my New Years cooking and learning. (which I had to start almost from scratch with the learning part when I became vegan)...

Other than that, I have no plans for the day. I'm sure there will be football and European soccer, and hockey to watch..but I will need to find a movie or something. My mother told me, long ago, never do any work on New Years Day or you will have to do it all year long! :). Soooooo....with that in mind, its a loafing day!

I need to get up now, and move around...my mind is beginning to get the 'I wants'...like I'd love to have some donuts, or bagels, or _____, and _____, even_____!! Yeah, gotta move!

Dinner for New Year's Day was ham and black eyed pea soup, heavy on the ham, over buttermilk cornbread, with collard greens on the side.

J had cheesy shredded potato casserole, baked macaroni and cheese, and broccoli gratin, with deviled eggs on the side (not pictured) for a tasty vegetarian dinner.

I did taste all the casseroles by licking the spoons while putting away. They were all tasty.

Howdy all y'all. It's thrilling Thursday! I got the AC filters changed yesterday, as it's a new month, year, and decade!

I, too, need to get out today, to PetSmart and, a grocery store or two.

Other than that, not a lot on the agenda, because I am supposed to be taking it easy and IT...CAN...WAIT! I will probably try to work in a nap this afternoon.

Breakfast was some of the leftover soup, collards, and cornbread. Lunch will probably be the same.
