Good morning!
Some interesting stories above! 50 some % of kids on assistance sure seems like something is wrong. However, I also have to say, considering what I bring in a year, I think I am taxed way too much. I pay more now then when I was working and seem to be awfully penalized for putting away money and then using it. I would have done better to pay the taxes while working, instead of waiting while I am retired. of course, that is just me...
Yes, I am assuming it will take 10 years or more to recover, and somethings are just lost for good.
I have no doubts that among the 50% are kids that get free foods in school.
things like this could be skewing the percentages.

LUNCH IS FREE FOR ALL NYC PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS!
The New York City Department of Education (DOE) is pleased to announce that breakfast and lunch are completely free for all students in every New York City public school.
Things that water can ruin such as family photos and paperwork will be gone for goodGlad you warned me on those noodles! Mine came in a box barely big enough for the bags, and that was the only box. The tape was holding it somewhat as there was a small gap in the top, but it was taped securely. I might have got one cut for sure, lol. Plan to try one Monday!
We got to see the sun 2 days in a row!! Hallelujah! Almost did not recognize it, lol!
That was a great turkey you scored for free by the way!!
I trimmed bushes and trees yesterday, and can actually move though I am stiff. I was rather excited, but pooped!! Some parts of me sure felt older than the last time I did it!
Val, you are so good to do the rescues when you work so hard! That is dedication!!
Take care all!! ...Jan
You had a problem figuring out what that bright glowing thing in the sky was I see
It is hard to beat free and all the great leftover turkey will be useful after I break it down into portions and Vacuum Seal it.
I think or maybe I am sure that I have a little less energy each year and take longer to bounce back.

Good morning!!
All day heavy rain here with thunderstorms later. Washout for sure. So much for finishing my yard work!! Well, not like I do not have a ton of other things to do!
Hmmm, a European federation. Interesting unless they turn from democracy as such...
Tackling the grow light today. Church was an all day thing yesterday. And apparently I had a brain cramp!! Instead of following keto, I was excited to have caffeine at the church and drank some french vanilla coffee. It totally hit me after it has a ton of sugar, lol...Followed up with lunch at church, realizing I had a cabbage salad and three bean salad that had sugar in the dressing! I avoided casseroles and bread and dessert. Then for small group I went with eggs and sausage, skipping the grits and toast! I had a taste of the triple chocolate cake for birthdays, but had the size of 1/4 of a cupcake. Totally knew that one but promised I would have some to the girl that bought it. By the end of the day, I had like 130 carbs instead of 20, lol. Total meltdown and brain cramp, lol! I dreaded the scale as that is lethal on keto, like a quick 5 lb gain. Happily I was at my lowest instead. Of course I might have stopped a nice loss..but back to keto today and thankful, though wondering where my mind was!
Oh my gosh you are cold at 28 degrees. Good thing you prepare for the cold! Not quite ready for Thanksgiving yet myself mentally, but sure enjoy your preparations for the day. I am not sure if I am going all keto, or call it a day and have some mashed potatoes and real stuffing. I am thinking keto with a spoonful of the real stuff, lol!
Take care all, we are flooding (water pooling) a little here. Guess we are getting more rain than I thought, and the ground is saturated. All is good though I notice my front porch is pooling more than it used to. giving that some thought... Jan1 -
In San Antonio it seems like 99% of the kids are on free lunch...except Emily. BUT...all those parents have much nicer cars than i do! 🤬1

I'm back home from walking and No Money found. The Temperature out the door was 45 degrees. The rain in the forecast made its predicted appearance on schedule. It is supposed to be goner before noon.

I wonder if the porch has settled or just saturated ground or poor drainage. A level would show if the porch has settled.
Drainage is very important. Porches should be higher at the house and the ground around the house should also be graded to direct water away from the foundation.

I remember back when there were actual food stamps that the people using them were buying better foods than I could afford and that they drove better cars too. Talk about working the system.
When I was in grade school kids that got free foods were rare. There were a few that got a free milk when they handed out the milk.hope4change_val wrote: »I have to find long pants (normally I wear shorts)...it’s 34 degrees out. Happy Tuesday.

Good morning!!
Must be the comfort factor! I wear shorts in the house all the time. too! Unless I never get out of my P.J.s like today! Cold, wet and dark today. I got up late and rolled over again and got up really late! I was just exhausted- I guess from yard and church and moving furniture from the plants and grow lights.. I did not even think to plan a get together for Tuesday with my friend. Not too sure she was real happy with me.
I did get out in the drizzle with May to play ball in the dark at supper time..she was happy with me! It was beyond soggy!
People around me here seem to have retired with far more money than I did. I lament that!! Paid my house insurance and found my county tax statement I thought I had paid. Luckily, while a little late, I did have till the end of the year. I was so lucky to see it. Swiss cheese mind here...
I remember free milk for some. That was about it. I remember being lucky enough in elementary school to have a nickle for a rocket bar on some Fridays. But went without too. I'm back home from walking and still No Money found. The Temperature out the door was 36 degrees. There in rain in the forecast for Tuesday afternoon into Friday. The forecast is for the northern half of NJ to start as a wet snow and rain in the southern part. The Snow is supposed to turn to rain at some point.

If the house feels cold then I put Pajama pants on over the shorts and a long sleeve shirt. Why over the shorts ? That is because the pockets in the Pajama pants are shallow and the Cell phone falls out and can be hard to find.
Over doing it can leave a person tired the following day. I hate it when it is soggy outside. As I recollect we get a 10 day grace period before a penalty and interest are added on to the total.
I recall going to free movies several times a year at a local movie theater. You had to get tickets from one of the businesses that sponsored them.
This was one of them that I recall the title of: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/13_Ghosts
13 Ghosts is a 1960 American horror film written by Robb White and directed by William Castle starring Jo Morrow, Rosemary DeCamp, Martin Milner, Donald Woods, and 12-year-old child actor Charles Herbert.

I do not remember 13 Ghosts. I was only around 7 so I guess I could not watch it?
Cold and wet here. We have had like 4 inches of rain in the last few days and it is still raining. It is turning colder with frost and freezing for the next few days. I guess I am ready!!
My grow lights seem to be working. I am glad about that! I brought my clematis in the pot in because it looked cold in the wind the other day. I am not sure if I should just leave it in to get a stable start for spring or put it in the cold frame and plastic with the other outside plants, lol...
I did wake up early and went to Panera with my group. We were there by 7 am. It is tempting and not keto friendly at all. I had some coffee and fresh fruit, about a cup full which put me at 20 grams alone, so I will be over a little today I am sure. But it was the least of the carbs as the greek yogurt has granola in it. They are healthy if I just watch my carbs the rest of the day!!
Roger did you lose enough to eat well on Thanksgiving? I would eat either way!!

I think was back before the rating system and before it was really needed
It was a free showing and I suspect that it was a older movie when I saw it. I think that must have been in 1958 or 1959.
You could have wrapped the Clematis in a landscape fabric that breathes and used leaves from the yard as insulation.
I think You did real good at Panera given the foods they sell.

Hi
I'm home and did not go walking as I suspect my brother will want to shovel this very heavy wet snow. Just in case I did not drink all of yesterdays coffee and will heating it up in a minute. The Temperature out the door is 35 degrees. Yesterday's forecast was for the northern half of NJ to start as a wet snow and rain in the southern part. The Snow is supposed to turn to rain at some point, that happened much later than was forecast and the snow out my windows that should have been washed away is still out there slowly going away in a slushy mess. I did manage to sleep in later than usual so that's to the good.
According to this mornings news some students were stuck in school overnight. Yesterdays rush hour traffic was horrendous with normally 15 minute drives taking 5+ hours.

Good morning!!
Hardly anyone is out today! That's the South. A big chill and we all stay warm and tucked in at home! It is kind of funny!!
I do not envy you that wet heavy snow!! That is miserable and hard to shovel!! Be careful and you all don't over do!! The sun finally came out this morning after about a week absence! It was pretty cold last nite, with the wind chill, in the upper 20's and very low 30's. It is almost noon and still chilly- not sure we will make it into the 50's as the weather people suggest..
What a commute nightmare you all were having. I would hate to be stuck at school!! Whether a student, but most ly as a teacher. That is one long day!! Too long!!
So glad the mule got out of the pool. Hope he gets to his owner. I can not wrap my head around still over 600 people missing from that fire. No words..
Hope you have a great trip and Holiday, Val!
And a good week-end!! Stay warm!!! Jan1 -
Hi. Roger, what a ridiculous commute 5 hours vs 15 minutes. I’ve been in that before. Be safe when shoveling! Jan - southerners really do hybernate at any sign of winter! The work Thanksgiving was nice. But 1/3 of the office had been layed off, and 1/3 was on business travel. So it was a much smaller group than normal. Wednesday i was given a task due 11/30. The other two business units had teams of people workbon the same task for more than a year! I get one week (plus my vacation). My boss did finally approve something I requested months ago. Instead of just fixing everything, when people needed a certain thing...i made them go to my boss for approval. After 15 requests in one month...he asked me how we can make that stop! HA! Just approve my earlier request! He said yes...in writing! Sigh. Enough whining...i need to do yard work thenni need to pack! Well, the snow shovel and ice scrapers snd snacks and coats are in the car! Talk to ya later. ❤️ Val1

I just posted some humor
Hi
I'm back home from walking and 10 cents found breaking a streak of nothing found. The Temperature out the door was 37 degrees. Friday was a weird day with Thursdays snow having turned to rain and then after I would normally have been home it turned back to snow for a while. If You are wondering why I stayed indoors Friday, The streets were covered with wet slush and I could see myself being hit by slush thrown by passing cars. Southern NJ only had rain and wind. We got it all here.
Some of the leaves are tough. There were lots of broken off branches and uprooted trees due to certain species that still had lots of leaves and the snow built up on the leaves and branches and down they went. Tough on the people whose cars and houses had trees fall on them.

It was not that bad with two of us shoveling, the problem was not being able to pick up much per shovelful due o the weight. The darn things are plastic and I don't want to break one or overload myself
That is not a nice wind chill, I suspect many were not ready for it ?
We are having weird weather IMO, Friday was rain into snow into full sun and then cloudy with no sun showing all in one day
I saw one report that it took a women 9 hours to go 10 miles to pick up her son at daycare, 1AM arrival with other kids still waiting, such bad traffic.
Some of the Missing are just out of communication, some may be injured and some sadly passed on.
I'm not sure if it was due to a late evacuation order or delaying their leaving, We will never know.

I am so happy I was able to stay indoors and look outside and not have to be in the weather.
Is Your company healthy ? It sounds disorganized TBH, Laying off 1/3 of a workforce does not sound like a good thing to me, what do I know OTOH.
Are You going to be able to get that task done by the 30th ?
That is one way to work the system to get what is needed, 15 requests
You Said "snow shovel and ice scrapers snd snacks and coats are in the car" And Snacks or Sand plus snacks ? A bag of coarse sand can be helpful if You get stuck on ice.
Have a Good Trip
Roger2 -
Hurray for finding 10 cents. You’d gone to long without. We made it from San Antonio TX to Blytheville AR. My sandbag is safely in San Antonio. If needed I’ll pickup some salt from autozone. Long day, lots of aggressive traffic plus construction detours. Not our usual uneventful drive. The company didn’t lay off 1/3 of the whole company, just from the local office. They are concentrating people in the DC area. I’m tuckered out.1
-
Good morning!!
The sun has been out for 2 days. The grass is still pretty wet, we had so much rain this last week! But sunshine, It feels like a miracle!! Glad you are on your way Val! Hope the rest of your drive is not as crazy!! At least you can hang out with your friends and enjoy Thanksgiving and leave work behind..at least till you get home!! You sound prepared, that is half the battle!!
People called me all day and then I shopped. I would have loved to have gotten out in the yard, but it did not happen. It would have been a pretty day for it. I did get out to throw May the ball twice so that counted! She is tuckered out and snoozing deeply already at 8 pm. Slower progress on keto this week. I do not have my ratios quite right the last week. I had a taste for scallops tonite but did not realize there were so many carbs..a little over there..I had too much protein and too little fat, lol.. I may need to make a plan up in advance. Or follow one for a week or two . Always something!!
Interesting and bizarre stories for the news..never a dull moment!!
Hopefully the weather will calm down for everyone for a while!!
Enjoy the rest of the week end!! ...Jan1 -

If needed I’ll pickup some salt from autozone. Long day, lots of aggressive traffic plus construction detours. Not our usual uneventful drive. The company didn’t lay off 1/3 of the whole company, just from the local office. They are concentrating people in the DC area. I’m tuckered out.
It was a bit of a dry spell, I hope the money drought is over, OTOH I would not bet on it...
A bag of salt is good too. The only problem I have with salt in the trunk is if it leaks, The salt could corrode the inside of the trunk and some cars the floor of the trunk is the top of the Gas Tank.
IMO Construction delays often lead to aggressive driving by idiots trying to make up the time
People hate getting behind me, I come to a full stop at read lights or Stop signs, look and then decide if it is safe to go.
Is that a good Thing or not the concentration in DC ? Also unless the office space was overcrowded will they be paying extra rent for unneeded floor space ? I hope they do not try and shift You east, DC rents are terrible unless You look at places no one would want to live.
Get a Good Nights Sleep

Enjoy the rest of the week end!! ...Jan
Congratulations on getting out and doing as well as throwing the ball for May.
Nothing wrong with having a eating plan.
Hopefully the rest of the links show up, MFP is bugging me today.
Scallops have Carbs ? I would have guessed all protein. When I looked I found this and that does not seem that bad to me.

45-Minute Roast Turkey
Mark Bittman
Melina Hammer for The New York Times
In 2002, Mark Bittman published this revolutionary approach to roasting the Thanksgiving turkey, which allows you to cut the cooking time of the average turkey by about 75 percent while still presenting an attractive bird. Simply cut out the backbone — or ask your butcher to do it for you — and spread the bird out flat before roasting, a technique known as spatchcocking that is commonly used with chickens. Roasted at 450 degrees, a 10-pound bird will be done in about 45 minutes. Really. It will also be more evenly browned (all of the skin is exposed to the heat), more evenly cooked, and moister than birds cooked conventionally
I hope the weather stays uneventful.
This one makes me wonder OTOH

A mini ice age could be on the way and it’s going to get very, very cold
Humanity is facing a long, cold winter which could see temperatures across the planet plunge to depressing lows.
That’s the warning from a Nasa scientist who fears sunspot activity on the surface of our star has dropped so low that it could herald the arrival of a uniquely grim mini Ice Age.
This one is interesting too

Hi
I'm back home from walking and no cents found. The Temperature out the door was 32 degrees.
It would appear from the weather forecast that we are heading into a period of below normal temperatures with Thanksgiving day being the coldest.

Was the shortfall of food that low ? I would not have bothered TBH
After overeating for lunch yesterday I skipped Dinner.
If Christmas shopping is not yet started it will definitely start on Black Friday, That is a day I intend to be a homebody.
You are likely to stay warmer too, We are heading into a stretch of colder and colder weather culminating in real well below normal weather for Thanksgiving.
I might have posted the sunspot news with a different link and that might be where You saw it.
Good Luck with the running around
