Well we finally got enough rain to help western Oregon's fires. But Central Oregon high desert didn't get enough and with the high winds things are a total mess. We still have high winds here in the valley, but I managed to go for a ride, bashed headwinds, got bombed by wet mushy pine cones and got crapped on by a bird. Not the kind of ride I envisioned for stage 9. Here is a pic of Central Oregon High Desert north of Bend, where my son lives. They are still choking on smoke.

Wow I don't know how you people go out when you are that close to fires! I live in the northeast corner of Montana & we have had terrible smoke from everybody's fires. The only good thing about the heavy smoke is the sun can't shine through. We have had high heats this week but it hasn't felt so bad with the smoke haze blocking the sun! I did take the furries for a 3 mile walk tonite but now my throat feels itchy from the smoke.

Well, I did not do a good job choosing my August goal. But, somehow I will make this work. (I hope) Added 3.5 miles yesterday for an August total of 127.5 miles. Only 7.5 miles left for today. Plus work, class and hand bell practice. We'll see......

Today DH and I completed a challenge set 2 years ago, when he could just about walk 1 mile - restricted by knee and back pain. He lost 35lbs and worked on his fitness. AND we walked 12.7 miles along the Fylde Coastal path, which is actually Promenade. A few minor diversions as they work on the sea defences. Returning to the car by tram. We're shattered. We now need to work out our next challenge.
My sons old mountain bike is currently being serviced (new girly saddle, road tyres, checking gears, breaks etc - and probably other stuff that's outside my ken). Picking it up in a day or two.
The fire images are beyond my comprehension - I hope everyone is keeping as safe as they can. My heart goes out to you all.

Hoping all you in the fire areas remain safe. I used to live in So. Cal and don't miss the smoke or having to use my windshield wipers to get the ashes off my car.
6.2 mile run/walk today after two long shifts this weekend, last night's involving both my patients ready to push at the same time. I delivered one of them myself when the intern didn't feel the need to check her since I just had. I told her I'd call her to cut the cord and laughed, but that's exactly what ended up happening

Bashing into 30 knot headwinds with always the threat of the rain that never seems to get here, is just not fun after 11 rides in a row. I am so glad, ecstatic really for our Vuelta rest day. But you know what? I wouldn't have it any other way. Rest day: sleep, eat, sleep, eat, Dutch Bros coffee, eat, sleep.
