    Happy New Year to all!

Suzi, glad you have the stones behind you. Whew.

Patti, you are clearly in your happy place, and that makes me happy.

Karla, glad you got the sleep -- your body needs it right now. Keep it slow while you fight this bug. Did you see the Downton Abbey float at the Rose Parade? This pic doesn't do it justice: http://photos.pasadenastarnews.com/2016/01/01/photos-2016-rose-parade-find-your-adventure/#15

Bert, you are a whirlwind! Don't overdo, please. Netflix streaming is always dicey but you're probably correct about distance from the router. I have an Amazon Fire TV box and when I stream Netflix through it instead of my DVD player, there tend to be fewer streaming blips -- no idea why. Hope support will be able to help you.

Judy and Ruthann, how did you ring in the new year?

I had a very nice evening at home. Had several phone calls with dear friends, ate shrimp, had a margarita and later some coffee with the bourbon equivalent of Bailey's, spoiled the cats and watched football. Today I'm footballing (Spartans lost last night to Karla's Tide but my beloved Michigan Wolverines pulverized FL today, Notre Dame lost (sorry, Judy!) and Stanford is off to an excellent start. Have been doing a few little things but nothing of consequence. Am tired and resting the remainder of the day.

Am back ON THIS as of today. Put my calorie goal at 1,050 and hope to stay around 1,000 as many days as possible for the next two months. And my aim is to have a "big salad" meal at least five days a week. I KNOW how to relose this and will do it. I really need to be at 800 or under to lose -- my horrible metabolism + this thyroid stuff is just a complication. Hoping this year we can get that regulated to work for me, not against me. My body loves to defy conventional wisdom and you all know me well enough to understand that by now!

Like Cindy, I am going to spend at least the next few weeks avoiding sugar and white foods. the farthest I hope to cave is one of my Market Pantry Carb-Conscious tortillas. I also sometimes take fiber capsules just to make sure I get enough fiber in addition to fruits, veggies, oatameal, etc.

WEIRD day here. My ex called out of the blue. His mom, whom I love deeply, is in the hospital and may have cancer. He's seeing his old HS girlfriend, who is divorced, and I'm happpy for him. But he told me he's not taking very good care of himself, which makes me sad. His depression and anxiety are still getting the best of him and he doesn't take his medications regularly because h"doesn't like taking pills." Nothing I can do about that. But he promised to keep me posted on his mom. VERY weird conversation. Hope he gets his act together because he's a good guy, though one I have no desire to get back together with.

The new group name is fine with me (weighing less is my goal and I guess that counts). Ordered a sitting thingy yesterday that I can pedal and do arm pedaling too. I am NOT personally going to label it "exercise" or "activity" or "fitness" because of the deep and intense personal demons from childhood those words summon -- the nausea of feeling shame, being shamed and other horrible memories. That is MY issue though. So be it. I can, and will, cope!

FIT it is, and I will NOT let that word get to me in this space but will give it a new meaning here!!!!! :)

This is OUR year. We carpe each diem together!

FYI, if you like hummus, I have a couple of finds for you. The brand is Eat Well Embrace Life (greatr sentiment!) and they make hummuses that have great flavor and fewer calories than traditional hummus. I've tried the carrot sriracha and am having the black bean for dinner with raw veggies. Tasty!

I'm so glad everyone so far seems to like the name, some more than others, sorry Janet!! As that article stated on Facebook, 80% of losing weight is due to food intake and only 20% due to exercise. I feel exercise is more for health, than weightloss, my doctor tells me everytime I need to make sure I exercise for my heart.

Janet- I think the petaling thingies will be good for you, I find that it is good for you mind and hopefully you will be able to replace these feelings with those of your childhood. I really don't think much about my childhood, so I guess I am lucky, although we had some really rough years after my parents were divorced when I was 14. My mother said things to me a mother should never say to her child also, but I forgave her for it in the later years. It's usually not about you when someone is cruel, but it is something about them and what they are going through or went through themselves. I hope you will soon be able to let go of all these demons that plague you into your 60's. I know they went deep inside you, I'm not making light, I just don't think you need to even think or put these things in print, you don't DESERVE it and it wasn't about you!! Okay, off the pulprit. LOL.

Bert- I knew you would love the name. I am trying to get back to some regular exercise myself. I am ordering the Garmin VivoFit today through my niece's Target store since our stores are sold out due to it being half price right now. You be careful on the cleaning and please consider getting a cleaning lady while you are laid up on this surgery. Plus, don't hurt yourself overdoing it before the surgery. Dang I'm preachy today.

Suzi- I will not mention a word to Jodi, but please could we all meet for lunch or at a parade while you are here?? I would just love that!! I agree and am hearing good things about the new WW. Many of my pals are telling me it is much harder to eat any sweet items anymore, which is a good thing. I like the whole body approach.

Y'all remember Shannon that was with our board alittle while. the one with the daycare and two boys? She was telling me about the new program and lost 4 pounds the first week.

My Hoppin John peas came out wonderfully. I normally DO NOT like blackeyed peas at all.

Karla, being able to say certain things here to trusted friends helps me process it and move it out of the spotlight in my head. It was a daily thing, the cruelty, and I know it was about her but it very much shaped how I see myself (much less so now but to be constantly labeled "an embarrassment to the family" and other things on a near-constant basis leaves big scars). Hope my venting here hasn't offended anyone but keeping it all inside hurts too much. I'm still here because I convinced myself it wasn't all to do with me. And I'm a bit raw today because I learned my ex mother-in-law may be terminally ill (we were never married but after 18 years his folks really were in-laws). I promise not to dwell on it here, but you all DO help me more than you know.

I have done well getting back to quality food choices today. I still have calories left if I want something later but eating fruits and veggies is quite filling for me today. And my unorthodox breakfast-skipping has helped me today. Gonna work on finding my rhythm again -- can't wait until thyroid stuff gets better regulated and for now that means lowering consumption substantially. So be it.

As for exercise, I don't intend to discuss it much. I will try this thing when it arrives and that's all I'll say. Except for you wonderful people, I don't discuss my weight-loss efforts with much of anyone -- just very private about stuff that sensitive to me.

All that said, I know I'm overly sensitve but there are reasons. Above all, though, I'm an optimist and will get my weight-loss mojo back. And with luck will get the thyroid stuff fine-tuned and cruise happily into the future!

Am having fun watching Stanford play great football. Will have a shower in a bit and relax for the rest of the evening.

Hope everyone has had a good start to the new year.

Now that is a bummer. I had this nice long reply and decided to try the preview option, and poof off in the air it went!!

Oh well, don't feel like typing it all again,

Karla - you'll LOVE the vivofit. I had a fitbit and it was a PITA to charge it daily. Plus it only had little lights that lit when I'd gained each 20% of my daily step goal - you had to sync it to see the actual number of steps. Vivofit gives you today's steps; steps to go to achieve daily goal; mileage; calories burned; AND time and date! I also use it as a watch. It will automatically adjust your daily goal up or down based on each day's results. Oh, and if you've been inactive for an hour, a red line lights up and stays there until you get your butt up and move a while. (Unfortunately, I tend to ignore the red line.)

I promise to let you know when we know for sure which days we'll be in Mobile. Jodi's Athena parade is Tuesday, February 9 I read online today. Which Mardi Gras group are you with and what day is your parade?

Janet - you're so strong! I'm very glad you feel safe talking so openly to us and also happy that it helps you process the feelings. Your success is such an inspiration to me!

Daily update from me - I've tracked everything (that's considered a BIG victory for me!) and I've done two separate one-mile loops through the neighborhood. Only a little over 8,000 steps as the rest of the day I've been on my butt with either the computer in my lap or watching movies and football. That gives me a good measurement though to use going forward - if it's a really sedentary day like today, I'm going to need to walk 3 miles to reach my 10,000 step goal. Still shouldn't be an issue for me since I've got a really good treadmill right here in the house and access to everything at the Y that's only 5 miles from my house. Tonight I'm going to take my measurements. I haven't done it for several months and I like the idea of having a beginning of the year benchmark to use.

Patti, Cindy, Judy, Bert - waving hello to all.

Karla, totally love the new name and I think it will help us all focus. Forgot to answer the FitBit question. I have the Charge HR and I love it. Gives lots of info without having to sync it to the computer, which was the biggest drawback of the original FitBit. It also has a stopwatch and you you can set it for exercise, but I admit I don't know how to do that yet. I also like that it is all one piece and straps on like a watch with a leather band, but it is all silicone and waterproof.

Suzi, I am glad that you are sticking with what gives you the most support and that you are still hanging with us. It doesn't't matter what plan we each choose, it just matters that we each find what works for us and do it.

Dinner was ok, not my best meal but not bad. No leftovers, so either they liked it or were very hungry, lol. I do feel like all I have been doing lately is cooking and doing dishes. My cousin hasn't been feeling her best so I have not had her help with anything and the guys are useless in the kitchen! Sorry for the whine but feeling a little taken for granted the last few days. I will get over it.

Suzi- I am not in an MG organization anymore, but when I was, I was in the Athena's too! I just like taking the grandkids down to the parades. The Athena's always parade on Fat Tuesday, first thing in the morning, so if you are here for that previous weekend, you will be here for Joe Cain day on Sunday. We usually go down early and get a good spot in Spanish Plaza. But I will be glad to meet you all anytime, and any place!! I think the VivoFit is going to be nice too.

Patti- From what I read on two survey's with Consumer reports NONE of the Fitbit's are made to be in the water with you swimming. They are water-resistant, and only had a 1 rating for water and the survey stated you needed between a 3-5 to really use swimming in a pool. That is what our friend Tammy found too. But there are many features of the FitBit I like, but one thing I don't need is something else to charge, lol. You should see the charge station Glenn has fixed up. I'm sorry about your feelings about the cooking. I must admit I have enjoyed Glenn keeping the kitchen cleaned since we have been back in town, and me sick. I am hoping to get out today as I have not left the house here since we returned on Wednesday.

I'm going by and having my mani and pedi this morning and then over to Massage Envy to setup some appointments. I was just thinking yesterday that my arm had not been hurting for a couple days and boom, slept on top of it last night and achy it is. I then want to go by Jason's and see the grandkids and see if they want to hang with me some, maybe out to lunch, the mall or the movies. JJ and I have been wanting to see Star Wars, but I know Izzy wouldn't like that one.

Drinking my tea and working my Words with Friends, sharing with my friends here. Life is good, and you are all such a part of it.

Again, glad the name is sounding good for our new roll-out. I will start the new board either Sunday night or Monday morning. We will have a quote for the day and we all will need to set our personal goal for the week, if we are so inclined, or, the fiber focus may be enough.

    Good Morning Everyone!

Fiber would be a good one! MFP gives me 25 gms of fiber which I have been using for my goal. I would actually like to increase mine to around 30. Really want to up my green leafy's etc.

Sounds like a couple of you are in Oklahoma? I've never been there. What's the temp there? I am in Southwestern Ontario. We've been spoiled in December with temperatures in the 50's, but now we have a bit of snow and around 0 F. Winter has arrived!

Having teens is a challenge - but I've been blessed with good ones! My oldest daughter goes back to her first year of university tomorrow. She's struggling with being away from home. She's half way done her first year now. Hopefully she will find her stride! My 2 boys play travel hockey - of course we are Canadian! That does include being on the road a lot, but we all enjoy it. Although I do admit - it's been 6 yrs now and I'm getting a little tired of all the travel every weekend. Especially when the snow rolls in!

Patti - I ended up with this job as it was close to home. I actually was a Trauma nurse for many years and I have to say that I do miss it. Funny how we all have our favourite type of patients - so to speak!

Hope everyone else has a terrific day!

Good Morning, All.....breakfast is tracked. It's going to be a sunny day! We haven't seen the sun in almost 2 weeks, so I'm looking forward to it. We are going to watch our son coach the girls' JV basketball game today. He loves coaching, and I might say he is good at what he does. The girls listen to him and execute his calls. It's fun to watch. Have a great day,

Cindy- I'm going to open the new board on Sunday evening or Monday, I will be putting it under another group, as requested.

Does anyone have a preference of what group? I only picked this one because that is what we were under with WW.

BTW, I am hearing that WW may be doing away with the boards!! My old group I have been missing have now opened a closed board on FB to make sure we all stay together. Now isn't that crazy?

Good morning on shiny day two of the year!

Suzi, so glad to see you tracking. I let myself slide on that over the holidays but am back to it as well. Yesterday was a good food day and I am feeling my love of veggies coming back -- whew -- good for nutrition, fiber, filling. And I'm going to try no breakfast for awhile because it does tamp my appetite down.

I'll likely cook butternut squash later -- Karla, I think I'll do your Barefoot Contessa squah bake. Good idea on the massage -- as soon as I heal a bit more I am going for one as well and as the year unfolds will see if there's any way I can free the $ to get them regularly.

Am low-energy today, planning to stay in, do a few things around here and relax. Will watch "Spy" with Melissa McCarthy later, between the two football games I'm vaguely interested in. Still healing and no inclination to brave the Saturday crowds. Staying in leggings and long-sleeved tee.

Will check in later. Hope everyone has a great day.

Wow, it is afternoon already. In a much better mood today. Made breakfast for all of us and have chicken, veggies and stock simmering for a nice pot of chicken and noodles. The neighbor's invited us for dinner, they are having chicken and noodles, and mashed potatoes.....seriously who eats both noodles and potatoes in the same meal? Glad I already had my food started so I could kindly decline their offer.

Karla, my Fitbit was free, so beggars can't be choosers, lol. It worked out well since I don't swim. I do wish it tracked time/distance on the bike, but few of them do. I mostly wanted to track steps, stairs and heart rate. Open the board on whichever thread you feel best. I love that once it is going and bookmarked we can get back to so easily and that we can just keep it going without restarting it.

Janet, good for you staying in and indulging yourself with rest! Wish I enjoyed massages but they truly creep me out. I don't relax and enjoy, even when done by someone I know and trust. Not sure why, may have something to do with being raped, just know I don't like them. Feel the same about pedicures. But I love hugging, does that count?

Ruthann, trauma was my least favorite specialty, I always liked the patients cleaned up a bit, diagnosed and with orders written. Things could go down the drain after that and I always felt confident that I could handle whatever happened, just didn't like the unknown coming through the door. I always admired you trauma nurses for your abilities to handle all the chaos and uncertainty.

Cindy, welcome back to taking care of yourself. I will be there Monday. I am trying to at least control my portions until then but I am so ready to get back to clean eating and exercising.

We have friends stopping by in a bit so guess I will get a move on.

HI Girls- Quick stop in- I can't believe WW is doing away with the boards. I bet so many people use them without paying it ticked them off- They don't realize it pulls people in to the site overall.
Looking forward to the new spot for all of us-
Going to write my blog for tomorrow - be back later.

RuthAnn- So glad you like the Fiber focus as we start our new board and work on our weight, fitness and health. Your daughter must have finished HS at 17 if she just turned 18 and just finished her first semester of college. What is she majoring in? How far away is her college? I live is Grand Bay, Alabama, just outside of Mobile, and we have had temps in the 80's for Christmas and tons of rain. 12 inches in December alone. Today it is in the mid 30's with highs in the mid 50's. Everyone was complaining it wasn't like Christmas being so hot, and now we are all freezing. LOL. Sounds like most of the country has been experiencing the same thing. I'm in the medical reimbursement field and own my company with three clients. A family practice, a podiatry office and a low vision clinic. The first one I just manage and close their monthly books, the second one I am at two days a week training staff and organizing the office, and the third, I actually do the billing for them from my home. I worked in the corporate world, always directing or supervising a large billing staff, with my last employer of 9 years being a 14 story hospital billing out $33million a month up. I loved it, but when my son was injured in a work explosion, I gave it up to care for him. I always had my consulting business while working fulltime, so I kept that business ever since. Hard to believe that has been 7 years now. I would call myself semi-retired when I look at the hours I used to work, but still work more than I like. I am working on scaling back at the Podiatry office now.

Patti - yes there is always a division between those two specialities! I used to work in a 40 bed SICU that was 20 beds Trauma and 20 beds CVICU. We liked to take care of our own patients for sure! I have to say though - providing education for a CVICU - I am always learning something new!

Karla - Yes our school year is the calendar year - Jan 1st to Dec 31st so she is a Dec 31st baby and squeeked in! It is hard for her to be away. Her university is about 6 hours away and she is taking science although she loves math and still may end up there! Hopefully, she will adjust in this new year!

Janet- It was in my earlier post that I mentioned my previous board members making them a group on Facebook because they were fearing or hearing that WW may discontinue the board, that is where Cindy picked it up from. I am with you on glad we were on there and met.

I went grocery shopping today, first time out of the house since Wednesday, and purchased some healthy fruits, veggie, lean meats, bottled water and a broiled chicken. I made myself a grilled chicken salad with the Poppyseed Dressing from Panera Bread and Glenn a grilled chicken sandwich on the 45 calorie Whole Grain bread. My poor baby is still starving, but getting through it. He was really grouchy earlier today, but has calmed down. He is upset with himself for gaining so much weight and the struggle it is to keep away from foods. I also cleaned out my refrigerator and removed the last of the holiday fare. He also started taking that Garcinia Cambodia, so I'm wondering if he is getting intense from it. I just don't believe in diet aides like that. I rather be an all natural girl. I am excited for my Garmin VivoFit to get here on Tuesday. I hope to be able to do some walking in the morning. Even if it is just putting away all this Christmas decor. I have already taken down the three little Christmas trees and put them on the front dining table and taken down the fireplace mantled stockings and garland. We only had a high of 49 today and dreary looking. I have my gas firelogs going now, as we are to get down the the mid 30's tonight.

Glenn made great headway with the closet in the spare bedroom. Chris is not thrilled about having to pack up his bedroom, but that is what we discussed, and that is what we are preceeding with. He is welcome to stay in my front guest bedroom, but we are highly encouraging him to move out so he's not quite so comfortable here. Sad, to me, but I know it is what's best to have him launch into his own independence. I just wish he had stuck with going to college, he would have one semester behind him, but he was very pushy about not going to college, even after registering and going to orientation. Broke my heart.

I was reviewing the category/groups we have to choose from. We are not able to start our own category, just a board within a category. I am thinking the Support and Motivation category would work for us!! Look for our new startup there late tomorrow evening or early Monday morning.

Suggestions from an ebook I purchased on how to startup weightloss challenge:

    1. Face the scale. Get your beginning weight. It is painful, but states it is a must.
    2. Take your measurements. Put these two bits of information together.
    3. Really examine your intent and desire to lose weight and what factors lie in that.
    4. Make mini goals upfront so you can celebrate along the way.

The write lost over 100 pounds and is sharing her drive and journey. Nothing we don't already know or have heard, but I felt like with 2016 it would be important for us to face the scale, get that behind us, take our measurements, and soar!! It is a free ebook if you have Amazon Prime.

I do have Izzy. She went to the grocery store with me and has been a little darling since we returned home. We are going to get our jammies on and get into some NetFlix. I think I will prepare us some hot chocolate later this evening.

Please, any ideas, request, suggestions or challenge tips are appreciated.

Support & Motivation is the perfect spot!

Found this spot where it looks like you can start a group without being under a category if we so choose; http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/add

Enjoy, Izzy, Karla. Has she tried on her cute new dance outfit?

Good morning friends. Our new year is moving along. Glenn is calming down some and I made him a healthy eggwhite omelet this morning with whole grain toast. He just told me he is almost down five pounds.

My disk in my back must be really bulging. I have had the numbness in my right leg on and off the past several weeks, but lately it has been even with thick soled shoes on, which usually keeps it at bay. I mentioned this to the massage parlor yesterday as an area of need, as well as my arm. I'm waiting to hear back from my BFF, Tammy, if this is what we want to set up for our birthdays. Her's is the 12th and mine is the 17th this month. She has a wonderful condo right on the Gulf Shores Beach, and we talked about a couple days there for it and seeing a movie. It is really aggravating, mentally, when you desire to exercise, but know it is detrimental to you body. Uggghhh.

Izzy kept me up way too late!! I slept in until 8a this morning. Plans today are to get the Christmas decor packed away for another year, just waiting on Glenn to get the boxes down.

TT: What is on your agenda for Monday? What mini goals are you considering?

Good morning, it is a beautiful, sunny day here on the river. Ready to go home but hate to leave. Cousins have already headed back to Columbus. We are going to our friend's place up the road about 17 miles to watch football. Haven't spent time with him for a while and looking forward to some great football and friendship (with a little rivalry thrown in for good measure). I have a big bowl of chicken and noodles leftover from dinner last night and all the fixes for Reuben's. Good thing since our friend has been out of town and has little to no food in the house. We will back home around 8pm. I will need to hit the grocery tomorrow for everything. The cupboards are bare. Ready to get back to good clean eating. Plan to face the scale and tape measure in the morning. I know it will be a rude awakening but one I sorely need.

My mini challenge for the next few weeks will be to get back to basics: Track, eat clean and exercise. I know what to do, no more cheating!

Karla, wherever you start our new board is fine as long as we are all together. Enjoy your Izzy time.

Good morning -- about to run a few errands but wanted to say hi.

Karla, put it wherever you want -- just wanted to let you know there was a non-category option if you preferred that. As long as we're working together in this, the label doesn't matter one bit! Hope your back stops screaming soon. (Mine's been acting up a bit lately but hope it will calm down soon.)

Patti, enjoy football (I'll be watching, of course) and be safe on the way home.

My mini-goal will be around food-related commitments -- need to choose a first-week focus by tomorrow.

I will forego the scale and tape measure because I have learned that they can be counterproductive for me. February 1 is when I do a scale hop. I have no need to know exactly how much I regained and fear the number might scare me. Better for me -- and me only -- to focus on reestablishing the good eating habits that have worked for me and not have a number-based freakout. As you all know, my path is very individualistic and I deeply appreciate your respect for that. We all have our own tweaks on how to lose and I love that we explore the possibilities individually and together.

OK -- must get out if I am to be home by kickoff!

Brrrrr! Cold out there. Just spent time taking out trash and recycling. Had several boxes to break down so was in garage for quite awhile. Trying to warm up. Iodide: shivering burns calories.

Think I have mini-goal but will declare in the morning. Looking forward to our restart!

Funny y'all should be talking about measurements. I did mine yesterday morning and was quite pleasantly surprised when I found the ones I'd taken in Jan 2015. Overall loss over 17" from my modest 13# loss for the year, but -3.8 from my waist and -4.5 from my upper chest (the bra fat overlap section, under your arms). WOOO HOOO ME! I felt even better about all of it when I realized that it's been 5 months since I was able to exercise.

We're joining all the newbies and New Years resolvers at the Y tomorrow morning for yoga class. Dave's successful shoulder rehab has coincided nicely with my kidney stone recovery. I'm glad things overlapped and my ankle injury, broken foot and kidney stones all took place while he was rehabbing his shoulder. 5 months of that crap is enough!

Ruthann, it was me in Oklahoma. Our current temps are highs in the 40's and lows in 30's with a few 20's and teens thrown in here and there. Most winters we have a few nights with single digit lows, but not many and it's not really unusual if we don't have any, either. Summers are pretty hot with several days per year of 100+ high temps. May is our main tornado season and it's normally very windy all spring.

Suzi, what an awesome and positive discovery with your measurements. I don't expect anything so wonderful for me, lol. But I am starting anew in the morning and will be as strict as I was when I started this journey, so long ago, lol.

Great day of football in my house with the Bengals and the Broncos winning. Had a really great visit with our friends. Ate the last of the chicken and noodles for lunch and had reubens for dinner. My GF was so appreciative as she works 9-5 on Sunday and has to go back in at 4am Monday. So she generally eats and goes to bed. Normally he has dinner ready when she walks in the door on Sundays, it was a nice break for them both to have me do the cooking. I am so tickled that two of my very best friends have found a life with each other that seems to really work. I do take a bit of credit for getting them together. She is one of my best friends and he is like a brother to me so I was very leery to push them together, but it is like a match made in heaven and I am so happy for them both. They are both 51. Can't wait to hit the waterbed.

My mini goal for this first week of getting back to my plan is two-fold.
#1 drink a 20 ounce glass of water before anything else in the morning
#2 Get up and have breakfast by 9am daily

My bed is calling and I am answering, see you in the AM
