I decided to restart our discussion thread since the 50+ message board has been restored. I know today everyone will be busy with family and friends. Giving thanks for all the blessings in our lives. I count you all among those blessing and will be thinking of you as I enjoy this holiday. I hope you all find your way back to this thread so we can resume our conversations and challenges. We need each other more now than ever as we face the food frenzy that is the holiday season.

Wonderful day surrounded by my loving family. Good food and lots of laughs. Always glad to have whatever time I can with them. May be heading to the cabin tomorrow, still in the talking phase. Did very well with my eating, mostly because I was exhausted! Hope all of you had a wonderful day and will talk to you soon.

Glad my thanksgiving is in October. Not sure if I could handle two big food days so close together.

Ate a LOT. Had wine. Took it as an "everything in moderation, including moderation" day without guilt. Fabulous food, the most excellent company possible. We didn't leave my friend's brother's house until after midnight. Home at 2 AM. Visited the local arts center today.

On the plane and back on program tomorrow!

Karla, hope you and Gkenn both feel much better soonl

Hi gang! Checking in from the beach in Galveston. It's windy and very chilly but we apparently escaped OKC at the right time. There's a raging ice storm both at home inOKC and at our lake place in south central OK. We're here until Thursday and have friends on the way who will join us for most of that time.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving at my niece's house in Tyler, TX. Elyse is a superb cook and even though this was her first time to host, the food was outstanding. The only hitch was nobody thought to check that the roaster was plugged in! Dinner was at supper time rather than lunchtime as originally planned. Her Daddy and brother won't let her live that down anytime soon, but they sure gobbled it down when dinner was finally served.

Home now, cats soaking up attention and treats. Back on track for me tomorrow!

Missed you all but thought of you often. I can't tell you how affirming it felt to be around incredible people I've known for ages, all of whom accept each other exactly as they are, for who and what they are. Lively concersation, much laughter, too much great food and exactly enough love (because LOVE permeated every interaction, hug and laugh). I feel tremendously blessed to have so many magnificent humans in my life!

Very tired so going to chill tonight and head out in the morning to buy fresh produce and yogurt for the next week and a half.

Great, I joined the group and was able to find it again. Whewww, was getting nervous here. For those that haven't seen on Facebook, I had to take Glenn back to Urgent Care on Friday, he has pneumonia in his left lung. He is on heavy antibitotics, hydrocodone cough suppresent and inhaler. He is so weak. I am FORCING him to stay home tomorrow from work. That is what I think set him back this past week after the first Urgent Care visit and medication round.

I hope everyone had a nice family Thanksgiving. Ours was small, but nice. My food came out lovely and we have been enjoying it everyday in a different way. Tonight I am going to make a homemade Turkey Pot pie.

Janet- Sounds like you had a fantastic visit with your wonderful, loving friends. There is no such thing as too much wine or too much money either. LOL. Glad you enjoyed yourself so. Now for the next phase of your journey this coming week.

Cindy- I have been watching the Hallmark Christmas movies all morning. Sappy, as Glenn calls them. A really gone one this morning about a small town in Alaska called Garland. I thought while I was watching these how well a movie your books would make!!

I have Glenn medicated and back in his recliner. I just prepared me a Chai Tea Latte and am going to sit and read.

    Have a great day.

Janet, I am so happy you had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with love, food and friendship. Sounds like you handled it perfectly.
Karla, I pray you and Glenn are improving. Sounds like he got the worst of it. Hope you can find your way here too.
After a short visit with my Mom yesterday, she wanted my cousin to see her place, we made it to the cabin around 3pm and have been chilling ever since. Edd had to help Mike on the roof of his rental property yesterday but I think we are planning a very laid back day. It is raining and cool. Of course, there is always football! Patti- I'm confused about your post on your Mom. Is she at the cabin with you? What cousin was it she was wanting to see her place?

Looks like just about everyone has found their way back to here. Did you all hit the star so you can find your way back easily?
Quiet day here at the cabin. Football will liven it up soon. Home after the game for the broncos tonight. Eating not great and did not track. Kind of in a funk, will not go into it, but hope to get back to me soon. Heard from my daughter and she revealed to me that she suffers from pretty severe depression. It breaks my heart and even more so because I cannot "make it better" that's what Mom's are supposed to do, right?
Janet, I will be praying for an uneventful but successful surgery tomorrow. I think your trip was the perfect "preop" medicine.

    Hi Ladies-
Karla- please tie Glenn to the recliner if necessary- he must get better soon.
Janet- prayers and hugs for tomorrow. When do you anticipate you'll be discharged and home. Please let one of us know you're in your room and on the road to recovery.
Patti- I think I hit the star- still adjusting.
Karla - thank you for your sweet words on my books. I know you're all waiting for the eversion I'm not sure why it still isn't live- working on that tonight.
    See you a bit later.

So nice to see several of us here. Much to do this evening -- my little bag is packed but need to put clean sheets on (icky ones so I won't be upset if they get any "marks of healing" on them. Surgery is tomorrow and will take most of the day -- will be in a room in the evening and will send texts when up to it. Will come home Tuesday and hope to sleep a few days away, except when I have people coming -- quick cleaning Wednesday (she was sick last week) and sprinkler system winterization Friday.

I'll post here when able. Sounds as if we are all still trying to figure out navigation to the thread. Hugs to all as we wnd up November and begin December. A busy month for all, but one of joy.

Suzi, you got it girl. Just post a reply and we can all see it. I think we should just keep this thread going indefinitely. It doesn't seem to matter how long it is and at least we are all finding it now.
Cindy, I am so in love with the cover of the novella and am not delving into any new books until that one is available in eversion. How can I order the boxed set? I really want to have them to keep.
Karla, hoping and praying that keeping Glenn down will get him healed quickly. Sounds like you did not get it as bad, I hope that is the case.
Janet, feel free to text me when you can after surgery and I will relay the info on, if you haven't already set something up with anyone else here. I will be thinking of you all day.
We got home a bit ago and I heated up some leftovers for dinner. It was so nice to come back to a spic and span house, thanks to help from my cousin. The KY family will not be able to come to our Christmas Eve celebration because my nephew is on call for work. So looks like we will head to the cabin the day after Christmas and they will join us there. Plan to just stay on thru New Years. Trying to figure out what to fix for Christmas dinner. There will just be 7 of us so I can set the table with china and crystal to make it special. Can't believe I am worrying about that meal already, lol. But that is me. I want it to be really nice. Going shopping tomorrow to find a small tree for Mom, it's a surprise. Will also go thru my decorations and take some over with the tree on Tuesday. She has absolutely no Christmas stuff and I know it will make her smile to have bit of Christmas cheer around her.
    Back to football.

Karla, sorry I missed your post above. I was referring to my cousin-in-law, she is the wife to my husband's cousin, I just always refer to them as my Columbus cousins. Mom met her for the first time last year at Christmas and just loves her, as do I. Mom wanted her to come over to her apartment so she could show it off. We spent about a half hour with her before the cousins headed to the cabin with us for the weekend. Sorry for the confusion.

Patti- Sorry you have been in a funk. Additionally sorry to hear of your daughter's depression. Very difficult to deal with for sure. My brother Kerry has suffered most of his life with it. I don't know what "star" you are talking about to make it easier to get back here? I have the 50+ board showing in my community now, so I find it that way.

I just made a turkey pot pie from The Pioneer Woman cooks recipe. Took a while to prepare the filling and get it thick to pour in the pie crust, but looked and tasted good.

Janet- thoughts and prayers for your extensive surgery tomorrow. I will be at home all day being nurse-maid, so please, let me know when you can.

Cindy- I read some on your book this morning, just refreshing my memory to be prepared for the next. I meant it, you are a Hallmark movie all the way!

Let me go sit with Glenn awhile. If he is not better by tomorrow afternoon, I'm getting him an appointment with a pulmonologist.

    Good Morning Dear friends-
Happy Monday. Janet I am thinking of your as I type this. I will be glad when this is behind you and no more surgeries planned.
Karla- how is Glenn today. I agree with the pulmonologist- this has been going on too long.
Patti- I have to confess, I have Christmas Eve and day menu's planned already- we will have a house full.
Depression is a terrible illness and you ride the emotional roller coaster with your loved one. Encourage them to find a therapist and get on some anti-depressants. Left untreated depression can result in things that are so much worse and maybe even thoughts of leaving this wonderful earth. The person who is suffering doesn't even understand how bad they feel. They get so caught up in the pain there seems to be no other option other than to live with it. Depression is not a choice but an illness. This is something that I have been dealing with in my personal life too- I watch two people I love suffer and finally they are receiving the help they need. But it has been heartbreaking to stand on the sidelines- unable to do much except ride the rollercoaster and encourage seeking help.

But to move away from a difficult topic- to something a little lighter-I'm back on plan today and tracking. I admit I haven't tracked since Wednesday. But I will survive the tasty slope of eating.
Suzi- so glad you found us here.
Need to run but I'll be back later.

Good morning ladies. I texted with Janet this morning and she will let me know when she is in her room. This is a very lengthy surgery with doing her legs and nose, so it won't be until late this afternoon or early evening. I have already sent a prayer for her and for my BFF"s husband whom is having his other hip replaced today.

New Group Challenge: The first holiday is behind us and now we have 24 days to keep focused on our plan, our exercise and our health. Here is my proposed options:

1- Stay within your designated calories everyday.
2- Stay at or below your carb totals.
3- Get 30 minutes of exercise everyday, if not a little more. But everyday do something.

My body has finally stopped hurting from that Crestor. I am going to the health food store and getting this pill that my BFF is taking since she couldn't tolerate the statins either. My right arm is archy again this morning. I may need to go to my Ortho and get a shot in it. It felt good all day yesterday and I overdid it because of that. But, I have my closet all cleaned out, four bags of clothes to donate and a big box of shoes!!

Top Ten Holiday Diet Tips of all Time: (from WebMD)

    1. Trim back the trimmings
    2. Wear snug clothes and keep one hand busy. (hmmmmm good idea)
    3. Chew gum.
    4. No skipping meals. (interesting, and we thought this helped)
    5. Check it out. (review the food when arrive at meal, make choices, drink water)
    6. Add fun and games. (if your party and participate instead of eating)
    7. Alternate alcohol with nonalcoholic beverages.
    8. Skip the appetizers.
    9. Limit the variety.
    10. Be a food snob.

There were a couple new ones listed above for me. Interesting about the snug clothes and keeping one had busy. LOL.

TT: What is your plan for the next three weeks?

    Good Morning, Ladies.

KARLA: I love your new challenge. I definitely will choose better food options for my meals. Our Chicago family has returned home, and now it's just Mike and me for a few weeks. So sorry to hear about Glen. Hope his recovery is quick.

Breakfast is tracked and the carb count looks good. My doctor told me to stay within 40-60 carbs each meal. So this morning was 41 carbs.

Our Christmas decorations have been finalized and we have "officially" turned on our lights. Our granddaughter questioned why I had the tree up.....I responded, "Because it was a great day, and I wanted to have the tree up to express how happy I was". She just looked at me. :o)

    Have a great day, everyone.

Good Monday, so wonderful to see us all finding our new home.
    Karla, thanks for the challenges.
Cindy, thank you for your kind words. My daughter is on anti-depressants but admits that she does have times when she thinks she is doing so well she goes off, even though she knows it is a bad mood. I have already told her that I am here for her, no matter what.
Bert, I love your response to your granddaughter. I haven't put up a tree for several years and sorely miss it. We do not host any parties during the holidays and Edd could care the least if I decorate. He doesn't even notice if I do and doesn't help in any way as a result.
I am back on track today. Let things slip, not overly so, since Thursday and think that may be part of my funk. I always feel better when I am OP and exercising. I generally do 5-6 hours of exercise M-F and then take the weekend off. I am going to try very hard to add a 30 minute exercise on Sundays. The one thing I have added to my routine and have stuck with is getting up every hour for 5 minutes of activity if I have been sitting at the computer or watching tv. It is cold and overcast and I hate the thought of going out but really want to find a small tree for Mom to take to her tomorrow, so I will make it happen soon.

Karla, I had posted a reply to your question about the star but for some reason it did not send. On my laptop, when I get to this board, there are 3 little icons: a bell, a star and a gear. If you click on the star it marks this as your favorite. Then the next time you click on community you can just click on the star and it lists your boards so you can go directly to them. On my iphone there is a toolbar with about 6 icons, including the star. Hope that helps

Patti- Thanks for the tip, but I had found it and it is lit up for easy access. I meant to tell you the type of eye vitamin I take is I-Caps, you want to make sure it has the Luetein and the Xanthanine in it. I was told to take these with my dad's condition. I was ordering them online, but found these comparable ones at Walmart. fyi.

Cindy- Good to hear you are back to tracking today with us all. We missed in cyber space on cyber Monday!!

Bert- That is too funny about your grandaughter.

I have cleared off my desk, paid a couple bills, made a couple calls and now working on my Eye clinic paperwork. I"ll check back later on.

I am going to invite my friend Lisa and Stephanie to join us on this board and challenge. I emailed Ivette about it too.

I've had a great eating day. Unfortunately my right elbow is killing me again. I have an appointment on Friday, but fear I can't deal with this pain until then. I am going to call the other Ortho clinic here tomorrow and see if I can get in sooner. I took a 7.5 Norco and it did nothing for the throbbing. My doctor's nurse called a few minutes ago and just told me no openings, period, before the appt I had on Friday. That is ridiculous. I hate the medical society now, no one really cares for the patient anymore.

Karla- so sorry you're in pain. Would ice and heat help? What about trigger point therapy?
Take care of your self and hopefully you can get in before Friday

Patti- icing it seems to help the most, but I have used the heating pad too. Do you think it is a torn ligament or tendon?

Patti and I have heard from Janet and she is in her room and eating the ever present hospital jello. So glad it is over for her.

Karla, thanks for the update on Janet. She will truly be a brand new woman once all this surgery is behind her. I hope you and Glenn will both be feeling better soon. With your 3 options above, are you intending that we pick one or more or do all three?

Janet, dear friend, rest, take care and recover - oh, and use the pain pills they send you home with! No need to be a hero.

Cindy, my youngest daughter has recently been diagnosed with depression and they have discovered a severe vitamin D deficiency in the lab work her doctor ordered. She is now taking a 12-week course of mega doses of vitamin D then they will retest. Meanwhile, she is seeing a counselor and we are trying to find a psychiatrist on her insurance that she can get in to see also. She's doing much better now that she's on the vitamin D, but I intend to keep pushing until she also sees a psychiatrist. This all scares the bejesus out of me because I just don't really understand it and feel so helpless to do anything about it.

Patti, I believe you may just be onto something thinking that your funk may be caused by being off plan. It's so easy to get off which seems so weird because you feel so good when you're on it. Anyway that's how it is for me.

Bert, liked your story about your granddaughter and the tree! No tree yet at my house, but maybe this weekend. I've got to hunt for the stuff - not sure whether we put it in the barn or the attic when I moved in with Dave. He will be thrilled (NOT) to get to help with that chore.

We're having a good time in Galveston. Some friends drove down and met us for part of the time we're here. We've had some great seafood and a lot of fun even though the weather has been marginal. You can see a good video of Laci running on the beach that I posted on FB if you like. Lunch today was fried, and not very WL friendly, but most other meals have been healthy. I've also gotten in more walking here on the beach where it's easy on my newly healed foot.

    Until tomorrow, my friends.
