Karla, hope Gkenn improved by the hour. Patti, glad your daughter confided in you. Depression is a bear - and one of the reasons my ex wanted to go his own way.

Thanks for your thoughts & prayers yesterday. All went well, according to my doc. Should be going home today. Am very glad to have the final "big" surgery done. It's been a wild 7 1/2 months!

Have a bit of a headache but the meds are keeping the major stuff at bay so far. Am very tired and am going to try for more sleep soon.

You have all been a huge reason why this has been possible! Thank you from the bottom of my refurbished self!

Will check in later. Am going to use this recovery as opportunity to get seriously back on plan. All I had yesterday was two tiny cups of jello. And glucose in the IV. No hunger at the moment and plenty of decent foods in the house, so no excuses when I get home.

    Hugs to all.

Good Morning, Ladies. Breakfast is eaten and tracked! :) I am visiting a student today and will run some errands. Tonight I'm taking dinner to a friend of mine who had knee surgery a couple of weeks ago. My back is really acting up, so I had to rely on a pain pill to try to ease the pain. My surgery is Jan. 6. Have a great day everyone.

    Good Morning Dear Friends-
Another day in the life of Cindy-
Karla- in my past life I worked for a physical therapist and I have been using trigger points for years to combat muscle and joint pain- there are very few times I needs pain killers and the like. I have a book at home and I'll send you a picture of the cover- it is amazing and very easy for all to do. My ex-husband's grandfather used is for sciatica and it made a huge difference for him- he used a baseball as his tool of choice.
I weighed in today and I'm officially up 5 pounds- what the heck and I doing to myself? I must get this under control. I know I'm eating stress but really I thought I had this under better control.
Suzi- I'm sorry your daughter is dealing with depression- please continue to encourage her to get help- the Vitamin D will help but the doctor might prescribed something else. Thankfully I don't have depression but two of my loved ones do. It is terrible.
I have to run but see you all later.
So Glad our Janet is on the mend.

Bert, new teachers are very fortunate to have the benefit of your wisdom and experience.

Karla, how is Glenn doing? The turkey pot pie looked wonderful - do you have a particular recipe?

Feeling a bit tired today, which is normal. Hoping to get home this afternoon - doc will be here this morning. Not much appetite but do need to try to have a bit of breakfast when it arrives. Catch you all later!

Good morning ladies, it feels so good to be controlling my eating, now I need to get back to the gym tonight. Heading to Mom's to surprise her with the tree and trimmings. When I get my Christmas stuff out I'm sure I will find a few more things to make her home cheery.

Karla, I would doubt a torn tendon or ligament unless you did something strenuous that bent your elbow in the wrong direction. It sounds more like tendinitis from overuse. Rest and ice are the best for now.

Susie, sorry your weather isn't better there in Galveston but at least you sound like you are enjoying yourself. I see that Laci is, lol.

Cindy, sending my check today, can't wait for my own, personal set of your books. I absolutely agree with Karla that your books are Hallmark material.

Janet, sending healing prayers. I know you will have a rough road for a while but glad it is now behind you.

    Back later,
    Patti

Karla training a replacement puts you one more big step forward to retirement! YAY!!!

Patti, thinking of the look on your mom's face when she sees her tree.

Cindy, it happens to all of us and part of the gain may be fluid retention from holiday foods.

Bert, how was the student visit?

Suzi -- Loved watching Laci run on the beach. Dogs running free are portraits of joy.

Your prayers and healing thoughts are helping tremendously. My surgeon said I did extremely well on the table -- she is such a gem with a sparkle in her eye and deft hands in the OR. Am grateful to have found the right doc for me on the first try. She has literally made me a different person!

Got home about half an hour ago. Cats were glad to see me (and vice versa). Had pain meds just before I left the hospital and they are helping. I'm still fairly sore and am giving myself permission to be a slug for the rest of the week. Going to hit the sack as soon as the mail arrives. My housecleaner is coming tomorrow and I will have the cat sitter in daily through next week -- am not supposed to bend so cannot do the litter scooping.

See y'all later -- big hugs to everyone.

Back from Mom's, she loved the tree and I put the mini lights and ornaments on for her. She had bought me a beautiful poinsettia for my table. She had all her Christmas decorations out, there are precious few of them, but it makes it look festive. She made a pot of navy bean and ham soup from the ham bone I sent home on Thanksgiving. I love that stuff so will have to limit myself. I froze all but 2 servings. Tomorrow she will be making the split pea from the rest of the broth, so will have that too. Finally something other than a turkey sandwich for lunch here.

Janet, so glad you are home and that you will be resting this week, at least I hope you will truly stick to that plan, lol.

Trying to come up with a brunch menu for Christmas day for 7. Want it to be special and not the usual breakfast casseroles that I am finding. Any suggestions welcome. I am going to put up out my snowman collection this weekend. It is a tedious process because I have to take down everything on the shelf that goes around the entire top of my living room. That means washing everything and packing it into the crates that all the snowmen come out of. The hard part is when I go to put it all back up after the holidays. This year I am taking a picture of the shelves before I take the stuff down so I don't have to work so hard when I put it back up. The shelves are 27 feet long on the long walls and 16 feet on the short wall. My DIL says it looks like a country store, minus the price tags, lol

Hi gang! This morning we poked around downtown Galveston for a few hours. We went to a movie about the great hurricane of 1900 - Dave and I really enjoyed that as we had recently read the book "Isaac's Storm" about that hurricane and Isaac Cline who was win the weather bureau in Galveston back then. We also indulged in a scoop of ice cream for me and Ruthie and a root beer float for Dave at a confectionary that had served Purity ice cream, an old Galveston brand. We had lunch at the Star Drug Store which is the oldest drug store in TX.

Now back "home" to the RV for Dave's nap while Laci and I walked on the beach for about an hour. Will soon be showering and getting ready for a special dinner at "Rudy and Paco", a fancy, expensive place that's the highest rated restaurant in town. Dave and I have been once before and the food was wonderful but the best part was the elaborate production they make out of the entire evening's service. This is our friend's last night here so tomorrow we'll be on our own. We head home on Thursday morning.

Chow for now. I need to study the menu some more to decide what I'm having for dinner.

Suzi, that restaurant sounds terrific. Tell us more afterward.

Patti, how about doing a quiche or two and/or a coffeecake? You could have a nice green salad with the quiche, have a veggie or two on the plate (mushrooms, tiny potatoes, green beans or broccoli) and a fruit salad for dessert. Breakfast casseroles are yummy but difficult to lighten up. You'll think of something. Or you could do cut-up fruit and a couple of dips.

Am pretty beat and going to veg and watch DVR'd stuff.

Suzi, I love going "fancy" every now and then. I forget the name of the place where Karla and I had dinner in NOLA , they are famous for their white chocolate bread pudding, but it was so fun to be fussed over. I never had so many servers. I was surprised there wasn't one just for the salt and pepper, lol! The food was divine too. Unfortunately Edd does not care for the pomp and circumstance so I don't push him to eat in such places. I save them for dinner with my best friends.

Janet, thanks for the ideas. My BIL makes fabulous quiche so I may just see if he is willing to bring one, it will depend on how he feels and if they can afford the ingredients (I would offer to pay for whatever he brings but he would refuse) they get most of their food from the food pantry so I hate to ask. I know my Sis will expect a more substantial meal. I have time to come up with something. My Mom suggested omelets but I am trying to come up with something a bit different. I so love to cook and want things to always be extra special and different. Sometimes I put too much pressure on myself for no apparent reason.

Gonna chill and watch a Hallmark movie and may do it from my craft room.

Patti, what about waffles or pancakes with an array of toppings? My friend's fiancée made pancakes Friday morning and they were so good I had a second one (they each had at least 4 and they're both thin). She took a well-loved recipe and tweaked it for maximum fluffiness. Can send it if you are interested.

Tired and about to turn lights off. Except for middle-of-night antibiotic, hoping I can sleep OK. Good night, lovelies!

Good morning ladies. Since Glenn did not seem to be rallying like he usually does I made him an appointment with the pulmonary physician and took him in. The pneumonia had subsided from his lung, his EKG was clear, was beginning to suspect a cardiac involvment, his urine was clear and bloodwork is pending.

Patti - I searched on the internet for some brunch ideas. This is a wonderful time to utilize your china with a small group and provide a lovely setting. I adore a beautifully set table. French toast soaked over night with nuts and cinnamon is always a favorite on the brunch circuit, bowls of fruit, maybe a banana nut bread or zucchini bread, homemade, would be great. You could add craisens for holiday color to either. I know you have baked Fritatta's too, so what about one of those? Here is a neat sounding one too:

    Tomato-Cheddar Strata with Broccoli
Comfort food doesn't get much better than a crowd-pleasing strata. You can assemble this egg casserole — loaded with French bread, tomatoes, and broccoli, and topped with both Cheddar and ricotta cheeses — the night before. It is on the Country Living site for 65 brunch ideas. Here's the URL:

    http://clv.h-cdn.co/assets/cm/15/09/480x552/54eadec295607_-_t-cassarole-morning-on-a-vermont-maple-farm-0212-cfqdx2-lgn.jpg

This is making me hungry, because this one sounds great too:

    Crunchy Cinnamon French Toast
Our Crunchy Cinnamon French Toast is made from simple ingredients. We encrust egg-soaked bread with crushed cereal and almonds right before toasting on the griddle. A serving of Maple-Glazed Bacon, coated with pure maple syrup and baked until crisp, completes this breakfast.

Do you have a Cracker Barrel nearby? You can purchase their breakfast apples in a jar that are divine. They would be divine over crepes, waffles, pancakes or french toast.

Well, I guess I better go fix my omelet now. LOL.

Janet- You sound like you did much better than you expected after this surgery. I cannot wait to see your pretty face!! Of course I thought it was gorgeous the first time I saw it.

Cindy- Are you off this week? Have fun with your dad and update us on how he is doing.

Suzi- That restaurant does sound divine. You have a great man there!!

    Back later,

Indeed I do have a great man! Right now, in fact, he's cooking breakfast- grilled turkey sausage and a veggie omelet.

The restaurant was fantastic! I had baked red snapper with Vera Cruz sauce, roasted potatoes and asparagus. They also served a fabulously delicious, crusty outside, and heavenly soft inside sourdough bread. I cheated there and had more than one piece. Afterwards, we had post-dinner drinks at the Stork Club, walked for a few minutes on the seawall, then came back to the camper for dessert. Wonderful time with wonderful friends. Now today, I need to walk off some of what I ate ( and drank) last night!

The weather is predicted is improve later today - still overcast, chilly and windy right now, but clearing skies this afternoon. I'm really hoping for a sunset photo op. I have yet to see a sunset at all on this trip.

Thanks for the brunch ideas. I'm really looking for a savory, non-breakfast meal so I guess brunch was the wrong term to use. Just looking for something light, filling and different. My BIL has several food restrictions because he is on blood thinners. Since his radiation for throat cancer he as almost no salivary activity so things have to be soft and moist. He doesn't eat much but I do like to cater to him a bit. I will figure something out I am sure. I love reading cookbooks, may check out my GFs stash this weekend when we are baking cookies.

Cindy, hope all is well with your dad, enjoy your trip.

Suzi, I had to look up that restaurant you went to, the menu you looked awesome and you chose what I would have eaten, sans asparagus, I just can't eat it and I have tried it a million time, a million ways. I am always glad they serve it with salmon cuz I feel the same about it as I do asparagus, lol!

Janet, hope today finds you resting, with little discomfort, and getting love from your sweet babies.

It is a stay at home day for me, until Zumba tonight. Need to get the laundry done and may even start on the Christmas cards if I can ever decide on a design, lol. It is a labor of love so I need to really love them.

    See you all later

Patti- that restaurants we went to in New Orleans was the bomb! The service was out of this world for sure. I'm confused on your meal time now. Is it really a early lunch? What about a baked potato bar? With regular or sweet potatoes? They are soft and people could create their own. I have a fabulous white shoe peg corn salad that is served cold that would go great. For meat you could add those bacon wrapped smoked sausages!! Check out Rotel Cups for an appetizer. You use those mini Phillip cups and put a mixture of retel, drained, cheddar cheese, bacon bits and sausage.. Look for them on Pinterest.

You could do a hot chicken salad on croissants or sourdough. Easy, inexpensive and yummy -- and you can make it seasonal with some craisins. Gee, we all get very animated when we talk about food! Funny how that happens here!

Just stopping in to say hi. Awake for three hours durubg the night but at least I couyld turn off the alar, for my middle-of-the-night antibiotic. Siler linings! Felt pretty creaky and sore this moring (have to sleep qith feet abd head raised but meds have bacjed it off. Definitely vegging for a few days. Clearing off DVR comes first. Then, whatever! Trying to go without glasses most of the time because I have to tape them to forehead above nose. I look pretty silly with taped-on glasses, splinted nose, bruised face and mummy-wrapped legs. Not exactly Miss Universe material today.

OK -- must move away from computer and rest. Back later!

Janet, you cracked me up with the Miss Universe quip! Talk about suffering to be beautiful.....

Patti, the standard vegetable of the evening was Brussel sprouts that I wound dang near rather starve than eat, but I do like asparagus. Your asparagus tries sounds like me and broccoli- I've tried and tried and just can't like it. I can't get past the fuzzy texture.

Karla, you're obviously a wonderful entertainer with all your menu suggestions. How is Glenn today?

We're back from a 7,000+ step walk on the beach. By far, my longest at one time walk since breaking my foot. I'm curious to see how it feels later, but no real discomfort yet.

Lots of good suggestions here, as food is what we do, lol. I think we will eat around 2pm, so late lunch really. Edd doesn't like breakfast foods. Mom doesn't eat beef or fruit. My sister doesn't like most veggies or fruit. My BIL can't have spicy foods, tomatoes, cabbage and few other things. My cousin doesn't eat fish or seafood. I think I have come up with a menu that will work. Chicken Lombardy: breasts pounded thin, sauteed in a bit of butter then put into baking dish. Then you saute mushrooms in the same pan, deglaze with wine and pour over chicken, top with a bit of mozzarella and parm and bake. It is super tasty and I think will meet with everyone's approval. Sides will be hassleback potatoes, carrots and broccoli salad (the one type of veggie my sister likes) For dessert there will be tortilla cherry cheese cakes. This is actually a very simple menu that will look gourmet. So I think I am done thinking about it and can move on to something else to obsess over.

Janet, I have such a vision of you with your taped on glasses and wrapped up legs lying in bed surrounded by the cats. A vision to be sure.

Blacklight Zumba tonight. So much fun that it doesn't feel like exercise.....well not much anyway.

Suzi, I hope your foot doesn't pay you back for your walk. Walking in sand is the hardest and the best exercise for your legs and behind. Good for you. Hope you get your sunset before you head back home.

Patti, I don't envy you -- having to cook for a minefield of aversions! The chicken recipe sounds great. Tired here and going to bed early. Had an afternoon nap and cat sitter must've been wiped out from moving her aunt because she didn't come today -- VERY unlike her. I will check on her in the morning to make sure she is OK. I had to put wet food down (they have dry) and ful water bowls. Not going to try litter scooping.

    Karla, is Glenn still improving?

Cindy, how is your dad doing?

OK, I have no brain cells left and need to get myself set for the night in the bedroom. See you in the motning/1

Janet - Glenn is much better. He's going to work tomorrow and keep it a slow day in his office. He has been in and out of his recliner all day. He did wrap 36 presents today. He his happy today. That is strange of your housekeeper to not even call. Sorry you had to bend over.

I made major progress on my Christmass decorations. Chris got the lights around the Eve's of the house in the front. My tree is half done, my Christmas tree collection is arranged on top of my tall doll case and my snowman collection is on its table. I have my animated musical boxes all out and working. I love it all.

Back to training the new lady at the podiatry office in the morning.

Good morning. Well, Glenn was off to work this morning. I bid him to take it easy, but he was ready to get back to his office. He has had virtually no coughing and only one day left of his Levaquin. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers.

TT: After several weeks on the MFP site, how do you feel your body is adjusting, your mkind? Are you tracking your GHG's in the food notes portion? Do you miss the "free" foods of fruits and vegetables? Has this made any difference?

Janet- I hope today finds you a little less sore.

Patti- What is on your agenda for today?

Cindy- You must be on the run with work and family. How was your dad?

Bert- I know you made the best decision possible on your challenged student and her writing abilities.

Suzi- Are you headed home today?

TT: I have a call into the nutritionist with my healthcare. I'm going to get some nutrient level recommendations to share with the group. I read an article the other day that said 42 grams of protein was advisable for women. MFP has me at 124 for 1150 calories. I have been posting on WW board and there is a lot of frustration with the site and the phone app. One of the good changes WW is making is they are finally starting to talk about nutrients and advising members to watch their sugar and cholesterol levels. I do like these continuous boards and being able to scroll up and read others comments to respond to.

Good Morning, Ladies......It's official. I cancelled my subscription to WW.

TT: I MFP has me on 1500 per day. I like that they show all aspects; calories, proteins, cholesterol, etc. per meal. It's difficult to say how my body has adjusted.....I haven't lost in so long! Sometimes, I think their calorie count is off, but there are problems with tracking on any program. I like it because it's free and we are able to discuss on this message board.

Today is finally sunny! It's chilly, but I don't care.....loving the sunshine. It's a busy day for me ....grading portfolios, getting final reports ready, and working on the Power Point for church. I'm hoping to get to the gym today for some type of exercise. Have a great day everyone!

    HI Ladies-
yesterday was a lot of driving in rain and fog- dad is doing ok. I have concerns which I discussed with my step-mom and she shares them but Dad is very stubborn and only does what he wants- He will be 80 in March.....
We have our outside lights up with the little deer- it looks nice and Rick will put the tree up tonight- we'll decorate this weekend I think.
Work is very hectic again- the push for year end. I never got a break this year.... oh well. I'm not complaining.
Janet- please don't over do anything - hopefully your cat lady will stop by today.
All the food talk made me hungry. Patti sounds like you have a good plan.
Karla- still posting on two sites- WOW. I've made a commitment to 15 minutes of exercise tonight- it's a start. and all I can squeeze in.
Bert- glad you're liking the new site
Suzi- it's great to see you- are you towing your home on wheels or is it a motorhome- Class A or C?
Need to run but I will be back- super promise.
Oh and at lunch review the e-book for LFK- so again slow progress.
    Talk to you all later.

Good morning, it snowed her last night, not a lot but enough to remind me that it really is winter. Going to be in the low 50s by the weekend. We don't put lights outside but I will be decorating the inside this weekend. Heading to the gym for Circuit, no TRX tonight as the gym is closed so they can have their Christmas party. They are going to our locally famous dinner theater. In years past they would have a meal at the gym but that meant that the kitchen staff, yes my gym has a diner in it, had to cook and not be included. I love that they all get to celebrate together, they are the kindest and most friendly group of people.

Cindy, when I think of your house decorated for the holidays all I can picture is your place in Loudon (at least my vision of it) I do hope you get some down time soon.

Janet, how odd about your catsitter, seems very out of character for her. Pray everything is all right with her. Take it easy, you know your limits.

Karla, what great news that Glenn is better. With pneumonia you have to let the antibiotics do their job, few people get better quickly. You guys got a lot done yesterday.

Bert, you do have a busy schedule. Hope you find that gym time for you. Did you say your surgery was Jan 6th?

Suzi, safe travels home today. How is your foot feeling?

Need to go clean the frost off the car and get it warmed up. Will also need to get to the grocery today, out of just about everything. Did I mention I really hate grocery shopping?

TT: I like this site a lot but think the tracking is a bit time consuming, miss being able to just click and drag from my favorites list. I like the nutritional info but need to be careful as it is not always correct. I think the calories burned for exercise is way too high, but I don't eat them anyway.

    Later,

Hi, all. Warning -- typing this wuthout glassres so please pardon any typos.

Karla, glad Glenn is feeling better and is aiming for a quiet day. All of us in this group have pretty solid basic nutritional knowledge -- eager tro hear what updated knowledge Karla hears from the nutritionist. Thanks in advance for sharing!

Cindy, you have had a jam-packed year. Hope you can have some restful time off over the holidays.

TT: I definitely prefer this tracker to WW (haven't seen the new WW plan or tracker). Calories make more sense to me than "points" ever did. I do not put anything in Notes but do keep mental track of proper nutrition. Once a day is done, I rarely refer to my tracker for a given day; rather, I use tracking as a way to keep myself honest. And the MFP food database seems vastly superior.

WW is getting some pretty bad press for being a plan that works -- but that so many regain, rejoin, etc. - it's a cynical business model. We all know how difficult it is to lose weight and keep it off. I've always been skeptical of the "free food" concept. I understand that it is to encurage people to eat more fruits and veggies (weird that there are people who avoid both). And I feel their emphasis on fat-free foods is a mistake in light of current science -- looks like they may be rethinking that.

WW has been good for all of us but some of us have run our course with their approach. If anybody has seen the new plan, would love to know what the fundamental changes were -- could be educational.

My cat sitter messaged me late last night (housecleaner did come yesterday). She's OK, thank goodness. She was so wiped out from moving her aunt that she just conked out. She'll be by today. The cats are being so sweet and taking good care of me.

Day Three after surgery is usually a rough one and I did go with two Percocet this morning. Trying to get to one at a time and then spacing them out farther. Will not be able to take any past midday Saturday and Sunday so I can drive. Am keeping things very quiet here today. Did one load of laundry and am going to try to clean DVR off today and tomorrow.

Even with the splint and tape, I can tell that I am going to be very pleased with my new nose. The tip looks very Rudolph but I can see that it is straighter and just more refined, Will see it for the first time Monday at the doc's office.

Time to put my feet up. Back later!

Janet, I so agree with you about the free food concept. I think the reason we hit brick walls with WW was because we were not focused on nutrition, just points. The nonfat, low fat controversy will probably never be resolved but I know that I have taken so many foods out of my diet while on WW because they were full fat, this was a mistake. I do still go with light butter and real butter for "special" occasions, plus low fat mayo but I like it better than the real stuff. 2% low fat cheese is the lowest I will go and feel that the real deal is worth the calories. It has been an eye opener tracking here and in a good way. Points make it easy but I'm not sure easy is the best way to lose and keep it off for good. Time will tell if this change will be the thing that finally gets me to goal.

My new glasses are in but I am too tired to go and get them. Couldn't get to sleep last night, so Circuit on 3 hours of sleep wiped me out. May feel like it later today, we shall see.

    Patti
