OMG WW Ladies, Thanksgiving and beyond

Good morning ya'll, still fighting the sniffles and cough, wish this would move on already. I am looking on the bright side, it has not really interfered much with my daily activities, other than going to the gym. I have been able to keep my dates with my GFs and Mom. I have been able to get all my shopping done. The Yaya's and I were supposed to go to a nearby town that is known for it's quaint shops and restaurants, lots of antiques and crafts, but one of the girls had to cancel and we will reschedule for after the New Year. I think we were all secretly relieved to have this day free. I may wander out later to do a little shopping for myself if I am feeling brave. If not I will get my presents wrapped. I do need to buy one gift card and am hoping that can be at Krogers so I can get 4x fuel rewards. I watched the entire first season of Grace and Frankie last night. I am not a Jane Fonda fan but love Lilly Tomlin, Martin Sheen and Sam Waterson. The story is funny and bitter sweet.
Bert, I bet your packages are anxiously awaited and well sniffed on their way. This time of year it is so easy to let it all slip by our lips. I am trying really hard to not give in to every temptation thrown my way. I will admit I am only about 50% successful! but not giving up on me.
Cindy, have fun at your book signing. I hope you take that time to truly relax and revel in your success. How sweet that you are the personal shopper for your MIL. I did the same thing for mine, she has been gone since 2000 and I still dearly miss her, especially during the holidays. I was so blessed to be a part of her family traditions, we just didn't have her with us long enough,
Karla, I do hope you are ok and have a moment to stop by. It is not like you to be gone so long.
Suzi, hope you are not in too much pain with those fanged stones.
Janet, I know you must be getting excited for your whirlwind weekend. Sorry that the antibiotics are messing with your tummy, they have a way of doing that. I bet folks will have to wrestle Caleb out of your arms for their turn with him. Give him kisses from us when you get the chance. Have you heard from Karla

Heard from Karla this morning. She's fine -- just really busy with Christmas prep, holiday parties, work and medical stuff. She is well and Glenn is much better as he gets ready to start vacation. They can both use some down time! Like all of us, she's struggling with building in more structure to her weight-loss efforts but seems to be doing well on disciplining herself. Karla, if you are reading this, I hope that was a reasonable recap!
OK -- time to get dressed and head out for mani. Starting to assemble things to pack for my trip. And maybe look for the Christmas stockings in the garage (I have a new one for Caleb, of course.)

Janet, thanks for the info on Karla, I was hoping it was that she was just busy as we all are this time of year. After the New Year we will all be ready to buckle down and get this ball rolling in the right direction again.
I will be going to the cabin the day after Christmas and will be staying until after New Years but will do my best to stay on track and stay in touch. My BFF from Texas will be here next week and I can't wait to see her, hopefully Wed.

Looks like I may be talking to myself today, that's ok, I like my company, lol. I really enjoyed not leaving the house yesterday. Missed going shopping and lunch with the Yaya's but we will reschedule, they needed the break too. We just tried to pack too much into this week. Today I am going to wrap the presents. Need to ask my son to pick up the gift card for my grandson if Krogers doesn't sell them . The restaurant is about 1 mile from him. Been enjoying my new Netflix subscription. There is so much I want to see, so will need to pace myself.
Peace, love and Joy to you all!

Made it to MI in one piece. Still struggling with icky surgical aftereffects but am here and eager to see my family, especially Caleb. Will do my best to eat moderately at the party and focus on people and conversation.
Hope everyone has a great weekend underway. Karla, I know you are party-hopping.0 -
The ugly sweater party was terrific. I tried to focus on finger foods that had protein but did succumb to some chips & dip and a cookie. Oh well. Baptism, brunch tomorrow, then driving home. Will eat lightly at brunch before I drive.
Seeing my family was worth every hour on the road and I got some quality Caleb time - he is so sweet!0 -
Random thought: Instead of having this thread on the 50+ board, we could create our own group. I've noticed family groups, coworker groups, etc. here, so why not us? It should make it easy to bookmark and return to quickly. Within the group we could create our challenge/conversation thread and maybe a food/recipe thread, exercise thread, etc.
Just something that hit me during the night. I gotta pick up some Advil PM.
No idea why I am sideways - didn't even have wine last night!0 -
Hi Gals- Very busy weekend so far and I've gotten a few things accomplished.
Yesterday I sold one book- to an unknown person to me and told her where she can pick up additional copies locally if she enjoys it. I am thinking it might be for a gift tho' so time will tell.
Made the stockings for Natalie and Micah- Meg's step children and they are coming over today so we'll give the to them at that time.
I edited another chapter and half, did some wrapping and watched a Hallmark movie. Went to bed at 10 and ready for face the day. Eating was not good- and MFP tracker reminded me if I have more days like that the scale will go up- which it is..... I did some research to stop eating white foods after the holidays and switch to whole grains. Incorporate this into the No S thing- which will help me focus on 3 meals per day and of high quality.
Janet- love the new picture. Showed it to Rick and he said you look SO young. I agree.
I love the idea of creating our "own" board" Safe travels home and glad you did so well with the food. I'm sure the baptism was wonderful too.
Patti- glad you can keep yourself company. I feel that we are all a little scattered this year- I don't remember last year being so frazzled. The sniffles will be gone soon and you'll see your Ya Ya's and have a great time.
Let's brainstorm about what to call the new board for our little family.
What is the one tradition you don't do for Christmas from you childhood?
My mom used to make Oyster Stew on Christmas eve- I know she and dad loved it but my brothers and I just ate the milky broth and skipped the oysters. TO this day I just don't like them unless they have hollandaise sauce all over them.
Well I will be back later- hugs to all and safe travels to all who are on the roads today.0 -
Janet, I love your idea. Now to find a name and figure out how to create what will work best for us and maybe to encourage a few new souls to join us. I am ever so happy that your quick trip was so much fun. And Cindy is so right, you do look so young. Be safe on your journey home.
Cindy, every book is another opportunity to reach a new reader, it spreads from there. Love that you are still able to make progress on R2S. My sniffles are nearly gone, yesterday was my first non-Quil day.
Almost all my gifts are wrapped, well the ones that are here. I have to go to Kohls tomorrow, they forgot to remove a security tag from a sweater I bought. I forgot I have a couple things still to be delivered. Need to pick up small gift boxes or bags and then I am officially done. I binge watched Reign yesterday as I wrapped and did some other chores. So easy to get caught up in these shows. Still want to watch The Tudors, The Borgias and one that Karla mentioned that she liked that I can't think of right now. Time for football.

Safely home after a wonderful whirlwind weekend. The funniest moment was after the baptism. The pastor offered to take a few photos of the whole family. When he was done, Jake's brother asked for one more: "Hey, Jake - hold him up like in 'The Lion King.'" So I started the opening chant as Jake raised Caleb up and everyone chimed in. It was just lovely and zany at the same time. The pastor loved it and snapped a couple of pictures.
Had a migraine most of the time but it's almost gone now. Had a small veggie omelet with a bit of goat cheese at brunch but confess to grabbing Oreos as road fuel on the way home. Dang, am I tired, but so glad I went. Now if I can get wrapping, laundry and repackage done in time to head back north Wednesday afternoon...
TT: We always used to have turkey with all the trimmings for Christmas dinner - Mom was really good at that meal. But my sister-in-law makes beef tenderloin. I miss the turkey though. And we always used to get very dressed up but now it's dressy casual, which I like. Comfier and cozier - we make an effort but de-stuffied it. The guys are much happier without ties.0 -
Hi Girls-
Welcome to Monday- project paint is not going well at work- I've been charged at the Comm person to inject corporate directed color on the walls- the original color looks awful so trying to get funding from corporate to pay for the other walls now too. Having anxiety due to people saying unkind carp about what is going on around here- like it was MY choice.
Just more stress heaped on top of already lots of stress- which I'm not trying to even think about but be a duck and let it all roll off my back. If only we were sitting around over coffee..... I'm sure we would all have So much to talk about and share advice and companionship.
Janet- glad you had a wonderful time- and are getting repacked to celebrate Christmas with family.
Patti- glad you're feeling better and yes every book sold is one more forward to my future life as an author.
Need to get back to the day job but really needed an OMG fix- until later.0 -
Good morning ladies, raining and dreary here but still have errands to run and don't want to feel rushed later. My DIL and I decided on taco bar for the Saturday at the river Kells' Christmas. Already have the taco chicken in the freezer and have 5 pounds of chorizo aging in the fridge. Now just need to make some taco beef, migrate some cheese and my portion of the meal is done. Love it when a plan comes together.
Janet, what a fun way to end the baptism. So glad you started up the chant. I imagine the weekend did a world of good for your heart and soul. Loving family and babies have a way of doing that. Just wish you didn't have to do all that driving.
Cindy, yes, be like a duck. Don't let those unkind folks dampen your spirit. Pretend you don't hear them, walk away, change the subject or just start singing a Christmas song...if you can't sing, hum. Just don't let them get you down.
Karla, hope you are getting some rest between all your parties and that you return to us refreshed soon.
Forgot to answer the TT from yesterday: the tradition I remember was from when we were teens thru young adults. My sisters and I would be allowed to open one gift on Christmas Eve after Mom and Dad got home from whatever party they attended. As young adults we would spend the night with them. We had breakfast, then opened our gifts. Then my sisters and I would go to the movies, come back and have dinner before returning to ou own homes. We did this until I moved to VA when I was 24. When I married Edd i started taking his Mom to the movies on Christmas Day and for a time that tradition was revived in my heart. The last time we went was in 1998.
Patti0 -
Patti- what a sweet tradition of the movies..... thank you for sharing this with us.
I can sing so that will be my next plan of attack- thank you for the suggestion. I think the anxiety that has been hanging in my chest is slowly lessening. I'm not going to think about pain when I leave here at 4- until of course tomorrow.
I'll be back later.0 -
Good evening, everyone.
Cindy, killing the messenger is a deplorable tendency -- sorry you've been targeted for criticism of others' (boneheaded) decisions. I remember what that feels like. My books arrived today -- thank you so much for the sweet inscriptions. I shall treasure them always.
Doc says I am healing but have a way to go until swelling and fluid are a thing of the past. . Antibiotics make sure I don't get whacked with anything weird and I'm taking care of stuff as best I can. Am down to one pain pill a day, when it just gets to be more thanibu
Am trying to get plenty of protein this week. Yogurt with PB2 for breakfast & lunch, protein bar for a snack and popcorn this evening. Am also to keep feet up as much as possible and to pace myself. I'm trying. No big cooking for me this week!
Hugs to everyone. Karla, Bert and Suzi, hope your Christmas weeks are off to a good start.

Late stop but am feeling accomplished. Have just a few small gifts to wrap tomorrow. I have been wanting to do something crafty and got my fix tonight. Nothing big, made kitchen towels that you button onto a drawer or the stove handle. Made 6 in a little over an hour. I used to do handmade gifts for everyone every year. Really miss doing that. I also got my taco meat cooked and my chicken breasts pounded for Christmas dinner. Just need to grate a bunch of cheese. I refuse to buy the preshredded kind. Did you know they use cellulose to keep it from sticking together, and it costs more. Just can't bring myself to eat cheese coated in wood, lol.
Janet, you have come so far this year, now just a bit longer to get rid of the swelling. Hope you follow directions with the feet ump as much as possible. It will make a big difference in the long run. Love your sideways avatar!
Cindy, I have visions of you singing like Zoey Deschanel (sp?) in Elf....singing loud for all to hear!!!!! Don't let the humbugs get you down.
Time to hit the sack......well maybe after an episode of Reign. I am going to hate when it is over.
Patti

Good morning dear friends, it is sunny here and that always makes the day better for me. A few chores and some meal prep on tap for today. My BFF from Texas will be here tomorrow, not sure on the time or how long she can stay, but I will relish every moment with her. We will spend some time with Mom and they are both excited to see each other again. In the light of day my little kitchen towels are really cute. Edd even said "I love it when you get crafty, it makes you so happy" he is a gem!
Blessings to you all, hope you all make time to breath and decompress. Be kind to yourself first and the rest will fall in to place.

Hi gang! I've lurked every day but haven't posted for a few. It was an extremely busy week last week gearing up for our HUGE Christmas party Saturday night. We had somewhere between 35 and 40 people counting little kids. A great time was had by all even if it was crazy and crowded.
Did I tell y'all the kidney stones are back? Well, technically these have been there for at least 8 months that we know about and are just now rearing their ugly head. Whacked me upside the head last Monday morning and I have lithotripsy scheduled for tomorrow. At least it's not Christmas Eve this time like it was last year.
I did well at WI Saturday morning. Down 1.4. I'm encouraged by the new smart points program even though I still do simply filling. It's still a part of the program and works well with the things my "personal chef" cooks.
Merry Christmas everyone. Not sure whether I'll feel well enough to get back before Christmas following the surgery tomorrow so I needed to tell you now!0 -
Hi, everyone! Having a bit of a struggle with swelling today -- just another phase of recovery. Put feet up for an hour, which helped, now plowing into wrapping, which I am going to be minimal at -- for some close friends I'll see Thursday, I will wrap the kids' gifts but not those for the adults. Just don't have it in me this year. If I'd had last weekend to work on it, wrapping would've been easier -- but what a fabulous tradeoff to spend the weekend with family and sharing in Caleb's baptism!
Making myself a bit of (rare) pasta with broth and will add some chicken. Can have popcorn later. Just want to say hello!0 -
Suzi, sending you prayers for tomorrow. Hope you are able to celebrate the rest of the holidays with minimal pain. Saw the picks on FB, what a crew and all looking so happy.
Janet, everyone will understand about the wrapping or lack thereof, your presence is worth more than the presents. Glad you are doing what the Dr ordered, at least as much as possible. Be safe on the road tomorrow and wave as you pass thru town, I will feel it in my heart.
So excited, my daughter and her son, along with his fiancé (whom I have not met yet) will be sharing Christmas dinner with me and my family Christmas Day. Tomorrow my BFF will be here around 3pm, we are going to pick up some food from somewhere and go have dinner with my Mom. I am feeling so blessed right now. Just wish my daughter could meet my BFF, but I can't have everything. They will meet next time.
All the wrapping is done, all the food prep that can be done is done. Tomorrow I will just enjoy the day!
Patti0 -
Suzi, we posted at the same time. Will be thinking of you tomoorrow. Congrats on the loss -- Chef Dave is good for you in many ways. Glad the party was fun. Take care of yourself and let Laci stand guard as you recuperate!
Have decided to wait until Thursday to head north. Too much to do (wrapping, laundry, packing) while also doing what I can to take care of myself too. Will mean a very early start Thursday (due in MI at noon) but no reason to add stress to force myself to leave tomorrow.
Going to put feet up for the night and deal with the rest in the morning and pace myself througout the day.0 -
Patti, what fun!
About the wrapping -- it's something I normally love to do. Because my family does not know about any surgery but my thyroidectomy, I need to take care to wrap their stuff normally, sort of. Can always let them know the slapdash job is because I wanted to spend last weekend with them, which is the truth.
I did find the stockings today, which made me happy. OK, time to put feet up here. Hugs to all!0 -
Hi Girls-
I'll be glad when we are all back to normal posting- I miss it..... too much craziness.
Janet- glad you got the books: Take care wrapping all the gifts and loading the car. The drive will be nice tomorrow remember to pace yourself and listen to your body.
Patti- I was thrilled to read Suzi will be with you for Christmas- your first together. Will her husband join you too?
Enjoy time with your BFF too- special time of year overall.
Suzi- so sorry you're still dealing with the kidney stones- I feel your pain and frustration they are rearing their painful head. Hopefully this will be gone soon.
Karla- If you are lurking- I miss you sweet posts- I've seen you activity on FB- enjoy your holidays with your loved ones. Hugs to you and yours.
Meg and her family will be with me on the 24th- Em is there for both the 24th and 25th- so I will be with my girls. It will be hectic and my brother will be able to come on the 24th- his bone graft is beginning to knit together so we are very blessed he didn't lose his lower leg. Such a long 6 months for a very active man. But I think he has learned life is short and he is dearly loved by his family.
Need to get going but I'll check back when I can-
Before things get really hectic I wanted to tell you all how much you mean to me.
Every day you have been a bright shining spot in my day. the year has had its ups and downs and I'm not sorry to see 2015 fade into the sunset as I've had a lot of trials this year. But my glass is going to overflow in 2016 and all the obstacles will become ant hills instead of mountains- I give each of you credit for giving me strength when I needed it.
You mean the world to me- thank you and Merry Christmas.
Until later-0 -
Cindy, you made me cry with your heartfelt words. Glad you will have both girls nearby and even happier to know your brother is making such progress.
Suzi, thinking if you today and hoping they can get these little monsters once and for all, and that you will have excellent pain control. I know you will be surrounded with loving care.
Patti, I can just picture you with everyone around the table. What a very special year you've had.
Going to get to it here - coffee is ready. Later!

Good Morning, Ladies.....we celebrated Christmas this past weekend. Our Chicago kids traveled back to Chicago yesterday. We thoroughly enjoyed our Christmas celebration....the kids opening their gifts, playing Yahtzee, watching "White Christmas" and "Christmas Vacation", Christmas dinner, and reminiscing our past Christmas traditions. I just love when everyone is together.
We will attend Christmas Eve service. I sing "Jesu Bambino" once again.....it's become a tradition as well. We are spending Christmas morning with our son and his family. We will have breakfast and then watch our grandchildren open their gifts.
Breakfast is tracked. I just weighed myself.....needless to say I'm up; however, I'm not surprised. I definitely haven't made wise choices the past few days.
Have a great day, everyone.0 -
Cindy, you humble me with your praise for all of us. I feel the same about this group. So much has happened this year, both good and bad, for all of us. I am ready to embrace 2016 as the "Year of Control". Your holidays are shaping up as a good start for your new year. I have been wondering about your brother but afraid to ask. So happy to hear the healing is underway. My daughter's husband will not be coming, not sure what that whole deal is but it is her deal and I will not push. I hope to meet him someday but for now I am feeling beyond blessed that my daughter and grandson want to be with me for Christmas. Even happier that they will be meeting some of the most important people in my life.
Bert, it sounds like your holiday is filled with the love of the season. I think we are all in a bad place with the scale. We are going to figure out how to turn this bus around and what we can do to support each other to make it happen.
Janet, how wise you are to wait until tomorrow to travel. Last weekend was your true blessing of this season and I am so glad you were able to be a part of Caleb's special day. The weather should be nicer tomorrow, too.
Mom called and wants to fix dinner for me and my GF. She insisted and I just can't say no to her. So now I don't need to worry about what to pick up for dinner. Only a few things to do today and then I can just relax with my GF and my Mom.
As I count my blessings, I count you all twice. What love, acceptance, support and pure love you have given me this year. I have truly enjoyed sharing it all with you. I truly hope there is some way we can all meet as a group. I am saving my pennies toward that end.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR
Patti0 -
Good evening. Hoping Suzi did OK today ...
Wrapping was very shoddy this year but oh well. Back of my car is crammed with gifts -- taking things for 18 people. Now doing laundry and need to pack. Last weekend's trip makes that easier - bathroom stuff already in there. Just need to rally clothes and assemble the several items I need for post-op care.
Haven't had an actual meal today -- have been way busy and havae snacked on yogurt, nuts, protein shake and some chocolate. Ah well. The next few days will be what they will be but will try to be a conscious eater (most of the time) and try to control portions.
Must be up and out around 5. Will stop in if/when able.
MERRY CHRISTMAS, MY LOVELY, INTELLIGENT AND SUPPORTIVE FRIENDS! Sending you all a hug and a heartfelt thanks for all thus little community brings us.0 -
Safe travels Janet. We will be here when you return.
Dinner with Mom was a true pleasure. She so enjoyed the company and the few gifts I brought her were well received. Loved my time with my BFF and can't wait to see her again this summer. Her life is not a happy one and I wish she lived nearer to me since we always seems to lift each other's spirits no matter what.
Back when I can and wishing you all the beauty of the season
Patti0 -
Good Morning, Ladies! It's Christmas Eve.....I can't believe how fast this year went. I want to be more focused on healthy eating in 2016. Tonight is our Christmas Eve service, and I'm looking forward to attending and participating in praising the birth of our Lord.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!

Happy Christmas Eve to my dear friends. I know many of you will be busy with loved ones, cooking and preparing for making many memories, as I will be.
Cindy- Thank you for your friendship, you kind author-enthused words and your devotion to our group. You are a light in my life that I treasure. Blessings to you and your family. I do hope that next year brings you less stress and more writing time.
Patti- Oh I can't express how very pleased I was when I read the post that your daughter and grandson would be joining your Christmas dinner. That is totally awesome. As Janet put it, it has been a very special year for you. We all went through the gut-wrenching time frame of praying for your mother to make her move back to you, and it happened. Thank you for being my friend the last five years.
Janet- You have enriched my life to another level with your caring and loving ways. I am so glad you are able to be with family and friends both for Thanksgiving and Christmas, with the added bonus of Caleb's christening. How wonderful it was for you, but, you are most deserving. Thank you for being in my life and always texting or emailing me.
Suzi- We have watched you blossom into your life with Dave and your semi-retirement, and it has been a joy to hear and see of your travels. I'm praying you will be resting and rid of the stones. You blessed me with a new friend in Jodi and I'm going to make more time available for us to get together.
Bert- Your emails enthuse and inspire me to continue on. Your picture of your family on facebook was awesome. You are a loving wife, mother and grandmother. You give much of your time to your church family and are still mentoring our new school teachers that our children's children will need. Thank you for being there for me too.
Judy- I loved the picture of your mother and her big smile was of yours. I have really upped my sewing game this year and this coming year I am branching out into clothing. You inspire me with all the beautiful clothes you have sewn for your Sydney. Thank you from my heart for your support.
Glenn and I had a wonderful time at the Longhorn Steak House with the podiatry group. I had the Flo's Filet Mignon to die for. We have some of our children and grandchildren coming tonight for dinner and presents. We should have 14.
I am baking a cake this morning. A Christmas cake. I purchased the yellow cake mix and added extra butter and put red food coloring in it. The frosting is light green with red, green and white sprinkles for the top. I have not made an actual cake in a long time.
We have several more events before the season dies down. Tonight, tomorrow and Sunday we leave for the beach in Panama City where my reunion committe members are coming out for our holiday get together. Everyone is bringing a dish. Tomorrow we will go to Jason's for a little while and watch the kids open presents, then we will be joining my BFF Monica and her family over at her daughter's home for a little while. Afterward the four of us, Monica, Steve, Glenn and I, are heading to downtown Mobile Crockmier's for drink and friendship sharing. It has really been a nice season.
Thank you all for missing me as I had to focus on the throws the last two weeks. I made eight of them this year, and proud to report they all came out PERFECT. Maybe next year for Christmas I will ask Santa for an upgraded machine.
Karla0 -
Merry Christmas Eve dear friends.

Patti- enjoy the time with your daughter
Bert- have the pipes of an angel
