Meticulous May?

I have been struggling around the 150 mark for almost a year now. I finally broke under that last week. Being accountable with logging and the keto diet is really helping. I also am benefiting from calorie cycling. It allows me to have more calories on days that I am likely to need them. I also am really enjoying the fasting until 5 PM. It works for me. I can keep myself busy all day long but it is at night when I like to graze. There is a lot of scientific research out there that shows extreme health benefits to this way of eating. No longer mostly live by the fallacy that you need to eat breakfast, just like eggs were so bad for you! I believe the combination of Keto, calorie cycling, and the 5 PM fast is what helpd me break under the 150. I have now lost 7 pounds since the beginning of the month. I am very confident that my goal weight will be achieved!
Have a great day everyone!
MFP starting weight was well over 200.

Congratulations! This is a fight and really hard. It is so nice that we have MFP people that are going through the same challenges to help encourage and support us! Great job!1 -

Cals: Under, if Fitbit is estimating correctly. (I didn't eat all my exercise calories.
Carbs: Only 24 net, which is low for me.
Exercise: Over 10,000 steps.1 -
Still logging meticulously, but I ate a donut at a retirement celebration at work this morning. Those donuts just looked so good, I couldn't resist.
Starting tomorrow, I will be on vacation for almost the rest of the month. I will rarely be able to log in, won't have a cell signal much and need to conserve my data (I only get 250 MB when roaming). I will be hiking a lot, probably running a little. I'm going to avoid carbs as much as I can - have made some soul bread to pack along with peanut butter, jerky, meat sticks, and tuna pouches. I will be driving between destinations and only have 1 over-night hiking trip... the rest are day hikes. When eating fast food on the road between destinations, I'll ask for no bun and low carb options instead of fries. Subway salads have become a go-to at home, so it should be a good option while traveling too.4 -
Carby binge finale today. Mum safely en route back to Australia. Learned a lot and happier for that. Had some fun and some insightful reflections. Back to my healthier ways now. Thxs again folks for care n understanding.6

Checking in: Back to my low weight...for some reason when I hit a new low I bounce above it for a full week or two until I see it again. Frustrating but it is what it is. The addition of yogurt and berries several nights this week seems to be working okay for me. Exercise was good this week. I'll probably take a rest day today. My waist measurement was smaller this morning so that was exciting!4

Got to 148.3 this morning. Doin better! Thanks!3

CW: 132.9, woot! Moving in the right directions.
Today cals were a little over (still under maintenance) but net carbs within goal range. I chose go a little over this evening for an LCHF treat to counteract the temptation from junk my H made. It's his birthday weekend so there will be some temptations, but fortunately his chosen birthday meal centers around steak (like mine did 2 weeks ago )!
Exercise, I did 45 mins of PT. Feeling weak and sore today so I wasn't able to push quite as hard as usual.

Past couple of days have gone very well. Under carbs and calories.
@anglyn1 - the same thing happens to me re seeing a new low, then taking a couple weeks to see it again. But before I know it, the new low shows up again, and more often! I saw 143 a couple weeks ago... waiting for it to show up again maybe next week!4 -
@tlflag1620 I just stay patient with the process. I'm down 26 lb so it's working albeit slowly!3

The soup I made for lunch ended up being higher carb than I anticipated. Then I indulged a bit at DH's birthday dinner. Sigh. On the plus side I was still under 100gm carbs for the day.3

I've been tracking even when off track, heh.
The husband and I went out to Wish You Were Beer last night and between samples, two four oz flights and a 16oz IPA (freaking amazing) I logged about 28oz of beer with an average abv of 7%. Absolutely crushed my carb limit, but I do love high quality locally brewed beer and around 500-750 cals worth every 3 months or so is manageable. Followed it with steak and salad with lots of ranch dressing and stayed within my calories, despite the beer carbage. It followed a week of really good keto-ing that was mostly steak, eggs and butter and one night with pork picnic shoulder.2 -
I'm new to this and I have a few questions. Doesn't it take about 2 weeks to get into ketosis and just one bad carb day can derail it and you have to start all over? How do you know if you're in ketosis or not? I saw on Dr Oz ladies had strips they urinated on that turned purple where do you get those?
Thanks for any help with these questions!0 -
I was completely clean, LCHF for 40 days, so thought this May would be a breeze, then one late night, visitors et al, and I have been wayward.
Can I ask, how much time do you guys spend reading posts? I do not use social media, so don;t have tht regualr habit, and frequently struggle to prioritise checking in, and then I have a day or night where I sit and read posts. I find it quite inspiring and engaging, but it is quite new to me to spend so much time at it - today, maybe 90 minutes. Do you spend as much time on this site?0 -
Yesterday went well. Was planning, and had logged, a couple beers that I ended up not drinking so went back and edited my log. Have a wedding shower to go to this afternoon. Not sure what's being served, but I'll do my best to make good choices and come home and enter in my best guesses (not exactly "meticulous", but that's life).
@FitToLead - I spend an hour or so in the morning and another in the evening on MFP. It's entertaining lol. Sometimes, if I find more downtime during the day I'll read posts. It's a nice thing to do while I'm sitting around burning calories while nursing my nine month old
ETA - @anglyn1 - saw 143 two days in a row (yesterday and today)! Waiting to see if I see my next "new low" anytime soon1 -
Struggling today, but so far not straying. Keep forgetting to weigh in and I am usually an avid daily weigher. Don't know what that's about, but I'll try again tomorrow. Not expecting to like what I see for another month or so after resuming my more effective keto routines. C'est la vie!
Donated two more bags of fat clothes. Still have a bag or so that I keep hanging on to - some fear based insecurity thing, but I'm working on it. Trying to let go of extra things as well. No room for junk in my life anymore.
So while things are moving along and it seems to be in a forward direction again, and I'm branching out of my comfort zone regularly in order to build a happier more fulfilling life, the truth is I still feel a little empty inside. I really want to let myself be open to deeper connections with family, friends, dates - all that. Talk about out of the comfort zone...feel like eating a house just thinking about it. But that is next on the agenda of this long term journey of mine.
Beautiful, Spring day in my neck of the woods. I'm going out for a walk!5 -
I have finally managed to get myself back on track (thank god).
Meticulous May has been a complete bust for me really, but I'll be carrying on with meticulous June (couldn't think of a J, closest I got was "Dilligent June" on the basis that the sound is not dissimilar).
I have some glass tupperware arriving this week and I have my online shopping arriving on Friday including ingredients for 2 of caveman keto's recipes so at least I can have breakfast and lunch pre-made, with just dinner to fix when I get home (which is also planned out each day).
Planning is the key for me to stay on track, I think I will also make those scotch eggs that are floating about to have as a snack at work as I usually need to eat before my lunchtime training otherwise my strength just isn't as good.0 -

Saw 143 yesterday and the day before, but today's (official) weigh in was a touch higher. Progress is progress though. I did go to a wedding shower yesterday, and while I stayed within my carb limits, I was on the high end, so I'm thinking that pound is a pound of water that will come off in a day or two. Hope everyone is doing well! One more week to go

I really like having to be accountable it is helping me break through the one year yoyo plateau of the 20 pound gain back of my initial loss! Though I haven't been perfect I have been at least 95% of the time. And I am seeing a downward trend to my weight again. Thanks for creating this thread it is really helpful!2

Hard to believe it's May 23rd already! Hanging out at 149 today. (moved that big weight on the scale!) Overall it was a good weekend. Really stuck to my protein and fats, so I feel like I'm back in the groove again. Carbs make me so hungry and I retain so much water, glad to be back at it.
@FitToLead - I read posts every morning. Record food during the day. I love being accountable and reflective of my progress. I also enjoy reading that others are going through much the same as I am. Sometimes I want to make a comment on a thread and read that someone else has already written the same thoughts. I could almost write "ditto" at least 5 times a day. I feel I can identify with so many lovely folks in this group. I probably spend about an hour a day reading or learning something new, even if it's just ideas for dinner.3 -

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. I was so on track in April, thought May would be a breeze, then one very late 3am to bed night, tiredness for days, and the clarity and vitality I feel while eating well gave way to cravings and addictive behaviour as I looked to find something yummy in the food - rather than living a life that feels 'yummy'.
I notice I avoided this thread, thinking I will look again when I am back on track in a day or two - which turned into 10 days. I recognised some subtle, almost imperceptible shame, that no one has put upon me, but I remember from the days when I was a fit person doing lots of outdoor things, then started putting on weight and noticed my kayaking, cycling, hiking buddies look at me with concern. I remember the look in my mothers eyes as my dress sizes increased. At the time I probably felt it as shame, but really, I am sure they were all concerned and just feeling helpless, not knowing what or how to say or do.
There really is some learning for me in leaning in toward this community, rather than leaning away when I become disconnected from the clarity and vitality of eating well. To connect more strongly in those moments, hold on as if to a life raft, until I am swimming freely again.7 -
@FitToLead if I am not in my simple carbs are not food mode then my days I am more likely to fall off the wagon are ones that I don't read and share here. Helps my self patience level.2

I'm on my vacation when I said I wouldn't be as meticulous for lack of ability to access MFP during most of the time. I've got another week left, but have done decently well so far. On the other hand, most of what I've done so far has been driving (where I can get Wi-Fi at truck stops, but have avoided mobile data because my roaming limit is super low) and I've been able to log fairly well. It's been a matter of remembering what I ate by the next chance I get a connection. And yesterday, I logged a banana from a truck stop without weighing it. This morning is one of the only times I'm at a hotel, so it will be continental breakfast (high carb offerings) and I won't eat much from that probably.2

So much wisdom for all of us--in eating/exercise and other issues of health, wellness, wholeness--in this. I also find myself tempted to not check in if I'm off the wagon but I'm working on forcing myself to go ahead and do so. And it gives me a chance to reflect on, and share, what I learned from the "off" day/stretch, what I can do differently in the future to help myself stay on course.4 -
If you want to be on a keto diet you must limit your carbs to 20 g or less is what I read. It also takes approximately two weeks to get into ketosis. And if you go over carbs even one time can derail you and you have to start all over. This is not an easy way for most people to eat. You have to make a sincere commitment to live this way. Otherwise, there is The diet of LC HF where you probably will not be burning fat but you can drink alcohol and eat carbs a little bit more freely.
There are Way too many excuses for eating carbs. If there isn't anything but carbs around don't eat! It isn't going to kill you to wait until you find some protein and fat. You can buy beef sticks at any gas station or convenience store along with several varieties of nuts. No more excuses! However if you do eat then you ruined what you worked so hard to accomplish. This is your kick in the pants to stop.0 -
Been to SC (13 hr round trip driving) and back from 11am one day to 8pm the next to say good-bye to my Mom (who did not take care of herself) on her death-bed.
I did very badly eating for about 24hrs of that time. But her health troubles, and me sharing so many of her genes, was the impetus for me starting this WOE in June 2014 to begin with. So I am back on track this morning without issue. I don't really feel bad about it. I'm going through some terrible stuff. I saw my mother in a way no one should have to see their mommy. But life is terrible sometimes. I ain't got no time for giving up.
Keep Calm and LC On.
Hope everyone has a good, blessed day.3 -
