It has been a dreary day with the usual rain. It has been a lazy day as I did little except finish a book. Tomorrow, I have an orthopedic appointment followed by lunch with my cousin at the Outback. Great low carb selections on the menu!

This is likely the last I'll post of one of these, but it is fairly typical of each day except today's carbs were over 100 resulting from having oatmeal on same day I had an NS entree.

I've been up since 4:45am when I got a text alert from the State regarding the schools being closed because of main water line breaks, followed by telephone call from the Board of Ed. Then Midnight decided it was time to play with me and insisted upon me getting up. I just gave up.

I had Quaker Weight Control oatmeal for breakfast. I'll be heading for the ortho appointment, followed by lunch with my cousin and niece as well as grocery shopping at WalMart. I'm missing my Southwestern Eggbeaters.

I don't know if we were born too soon or not. When I was a kid, kids went outside to play. Instead I wanted to read. The one time I wanted to do something active was when I wanted to take ballet classes. My grandmother was going to pay. But I was deemed too tall. I loved roller skating but never got to the rink (and I don't think anyone skated anywhere else that I knew of). Kids today spend their time on the computer or smart phone. One of my volunteers has as much trouble getting her son to go outside as my mom had getting me to go outside.

As a kid, I remember playing outside all day. During the summer, I'd ride my bike a few miles to the public pool since my mom didn't drive. I don't remember exactly what I did at the pool other than hang out with friends. It wasn't a swim laps kind of pool and I wasn't a strong swimmer. I guess we went in to cool off and them laid out on towels until we were hot again. One habit kids have today which I wished I'd developed is drinking water. I don't remember ever drinking water unless it was to take a pill. I have to work at drinking water as an adult. Kids today seem to carry water with them now. Good for them.

I had an eye exam this morning and I'm having trouble reading the screen. I'm still dialated so I'll end for now. have a great day ladies.

I am concerned about Jack. His one nostril now seems completely blocked. I managed to get an appointment for him at the internist in Virginia tomorrow. So this is going to be a busy week. Jack to the internist tomorrow after I feed the colonies; me to the oncologist Wednesday (I've already gone online and seen my CT scan is without problems so that should be a short appointment) feeding the colonies on the way home; and Thursday going to the regular vet to pick up Indy and take her to the ophthalmologist to hopefully get her stitches out. Luckily Lil is feeding on Thursday. Work? When?

The good news is that we have someone great adopting one of the cats at the vet so hopefully that means Indy can move to the adoption cage AND I can pick up Pretty Boy (once I figure out how).

Maryanne, I was like you growing up. My mom would have to force me to get me outside, and as often as not, I would smuggle a book out with me, find some shade, and continue reading until she found me or one of my siblings ratted me out! I was never athletic and most of the neighborhood kids were boys, so there weren't a lot of things for me to do that interested me. Where we lived in west Texas, summers were brutally hot, so you can imagine why playing outside lacked appeal.

Day returned Saturday from his camping trip. He had a good time but was glad to be back home and sleeping in his own bed again. Unfortunately for me, he has begun to snore a lot, so I'm not as thrilled to have him back home sleeping in his own bed, lol! Last night my sister stayed with us and today I took her to the airport for a flight to Denver to visit friends. She will be back Thursday night and go home Friday. She was able to share more details about her youngest daughter's upcoming wedding plans and we worked out a possible solution to one of their dilemmas for concealing some doors in the room where the ceremony will be held, if the bridezilla will agree. Hopefully she will like the idea as it would be much easier and less expensive than the one she had proposed.

I hated going outdoors as I was always getting bitten by whatever critters were flying around. I seemed to attract them for some reason. It was much more fun to be in the comfort of the inside where I could read.

I am being sent for an MRI and EMG on September 13. The exam today indicated a possiible neurological problem, a pinched nerve, herniated disc, etc. I always wanted needles stuck in me with electricity sent into muscles.

Jean - ouch!!! That does not sound like fun. I hope after all that they can identify what's going on.

DH's podiatrist thinks his pain is coming from his back so he gave him the name of a sports orthopaedist (sp?) doctor.

Pam - sorry to hear about the snoring.

Maryanne--I hope DH finds a solution. The firm I went to is one I've used for almost 10 years since developing the knee issue. There are 10 orthopedic (they use your spelling) doctors and one of their specializations is sports medicine. They think there is a disc problem in the back causing the problem. You know that stupid test where doctors tap your knee to see the reflex. Mine didn't react.

Quaker Instant Oatmeal for breakfast. I was going to WalMart yesterday to get groceries but I was so tired that I didn't bother going. Lack of sleep the night before combined with a full morning at the ortho left me drained.

Jean..The test sounds dreadful. I hope after going through it, they can identify and fix the problem you're having. The hot spell finally broke here. It's in the low 70s, no humidity and it feels like a September day. I hope we get a whole bunch of days just like this. it makes you want to get out and do things. I have a bunch of errands which I was putting off. I think today is the day to do them. Maryanne..I hope the cats are doing better today. That's great news about the adoption.

I arrived at the library a week early for my book discussion group. We meet the last Wednesday of the month and I thought that was today. When I noticed the parking lot wasn't very full, I check my calendar and discovered next Wednesday is the 31st. Oh well, better than being a week late! I started logging my food today. I have a physical in 10 days and I don't want to be any heavier than I was when I saw her in June. It would be nice to be even a couple of pounds down.

I'm considering trying WW again for the peer support. I tried it 20 years ago and never liked the food logging and counting points. I don't object to logging as much by computer and I'm not doing much on my own these days. I have a week to think about it before the local group meets again. The main deterrent this time is the meeting is at 8:30 AM and I'm not much of a morning person. I'd have to travel 15-20 miles to another town for a later time slot. I lost about 20 pounds way back when and of course I'm much heavier than that now. We'll see how I feel next week.

Helene--Better early than late. Good job on logging the food. I had gone about 80 days straight but was so tired yesterday that I forgot to do it. Oh well. You have time to think about the WW. I haven't figured out why WW likes to meet during the day when people work as it does here when it does meet.

I was up at 5:15 this morning when the alarm was set for 5:45. I'll be out of here at 7:00 or 7:15 at the latest to be able to get to work on time. I subbed yesterday also and will tomorrow.

Right now, I am finishing the Quaker Weight Control oatmeal, and getting ready for a second cup of coffee while getting ready. The bag is packed but I'm not ready to go.

What a week. Jack to Virginia on Tuesday. Me to the oncolgoist yesterday (no biggie; my once a year "you still don't have lung cancer but we'll keep watching your polyps" appointment). Today I drive north to pick up Indy and drive her to the eye doctor (hopefully she'll get her stitches out poor thing). Saturday I go to the hair dresser. Next week we have a flea market. Have to get a little work done between all that. Plus of course feed the colonies.

DH is bugging me about buying a car battery. Since I'm at about 68 months on an 84 month battery I figure that can wait a few weeks. It's not like it will snow here before Thanksgiving.

I fed the colonies this morning and did the grocery shopping. Then I did some of my work and turned my attention to the CROM raffle mailing. Busy day but I'm getting things accomplished.

I'm off to the hairdresser this morning. I'm planning to start back on my spreadsheets on Monday. I put "choose food, set up spreadsheet" on my weekend "to do" list!

It's been a crazy week for me too. DH had a nuclear stress test last week and the cardiologist didn't like the results. She had the surgeon do another cath test yesterday. It turned out 2 arteries are narrowing around 2 stents so he's in the hospital for the weekend for monitoring and will have bypass surgery Monday. We always knew that was a possibility but we still taken by surprise. He's basically felt pretty good but his BP has been dropping when he did the stress test. Bypass would have been the surgeon's first choice last September but DH was too ill to survive it and got stents instead. The good news is he's in much better shape than last year so we're optimistic about a good outcome. My brother from SC was on vacation in CT and planned to start his drive home tomorrow. He volunteered to come up her and keep me company for a few days and will be here the day of the surgery. It's only a 3 hour drive for him so it will be great to have his support on Monday especially.

Helene, I'm sorry but SO glad that caught it and that he's in better shape for the surgery. Still, you must be worried sick! I'm glad your brother can be with you for a few days.

Helene, I'm so sorry that you and DH are facing this, but so glad that this can be done before he's in a crisis situation. And I'm so glad your brother can be with you. Please keep us informed about how you are both doing when you can.

Helene--So sorry that DH is facing bypass surgery but it is good that the need was discovered before the situation got so bad that the surgery would be more risky. I do hope all works out. Keep us informed.

I went 76 days of logging my food and then one day I was so tired when I came home that I chose not to do anything online. I think I am now up to 3 days of not logging. I also have not gotten on the scale the past week.

That's been me for way too long now! Hopefully this week will be better.

Maryanne--They say 3 weeks make it a habit? If so, then after 76 days why would one not post and then make it a non-post 3 days in a row? Yes, hopefully this week will be better.

Back to logging food today. Nice sunny day with temps cooler than yesterday's 98 with heat index over 100. Lazy day with odds and ends being done around the house. Go to work tomorrow.

Just talked to DH. I'll be heading up for a visit shortly. The surgery is tomorrow and the doctor anticipates it will be 5-6 hours. He's in good spirits and hopefully all well go well. I'll be glad when it's over and we can start recovery mode. Thanks for the prayers and support.

We decided to get two cats out of their colony (small colony) because earlier in the week earth moving equipment showed up. I wanted to get one out next anyway - definitely a Siamese mix. Every time I'd go over he'd come running up to me. Lil got the calico Saturday and I got Pretty Boy yesterday. Both are now at the vet. Let 'em bring on their heavy equipment - the cats are safe!

If they told me Pretty Boy couldn't go into the adoption cage, I wouldn't cry.

This one colony is what kept me from ever feeding really early. So a side benefit is the option to go out earlier if necessary.

You can't really see his beautiful light blue - very crossed - Siamese eyes or his his Siamese voice. But trust me - this one's got Siamese genes! And he's now safe inside.

Helene--Definitely sending positive vibes your way for a successful procedure for DH.

    Maryanne--That is a beautiful cat.

I did log all my food today and started to do some low intensity exercise of pedaling while watching TV. I'm not going to do much until I find out what the orthopedic says after the tests.

That's a beautiful boy. I'm glad you rescued him. I'm leaving for the hospital shortly. Surgeon said I could see him pre-surgery if I got there at 7. I'll have a few minutes before the anesthesiologist comes in to do his thing. We stayed in a hotel near the hospital last night so I'm only 10 minutes away. He should be back in ICU around 3. Thanks for the prayers and support. It means a lot to me.

Pretty Boy was in the "big cage". Bob built it. Probably 5 1/2 feet tall with 3 levels. When I went to bed Sunday night Pretty Boy was hiding in a carrier on the bottom level. When I got up yesterday, he was lounging big as you please in a soft bed on the top shelf. I'm thinking this boy is going to like the indoor life. I already knew he was totally food motivated. Lil picked him up from me yesterday morning and drove him to the vet. She says he just strolled out of the carrier at the vet. Drat, sounds like he may be adoptable. LOL!

We are scrambling right now. Lil's van is ailing if not dead and we have a flea market to set up Friday. She and I have the biggest vehicles so losing one of the vans is a blow. One of Bonnie's friends is offering to donate the cost of a truck, which Bonnie is probably the only one brave enough to drive, if we can get it for $100-150. No idea how reasonable that is and I don't really have time to futz with it. Dealing with the colonies and a grant application due tomorrow (love my grants purrson to death but she does procrastinate). Oh, and I work for a living?
