Good morning, everyone! The third quarter is here and we have basically 12 weeks to accomplish our goals. I have a cardiology and an urologist appointment in September so I would like to weigh in at my lowest point in years. Being realistic, I would like to weigh in ten pounds below what I weighed when last there.

Maryanne posted on the 2nd quarter thread:

Pam - how sweet of your DH to invite your neighbor (and to check with you first). Sounds like a great dinner. Good luck at the doctor.

We had loud noise Sunday and Monday nights. Around here it's fireworks AND gunfire. SO many idiots think a holiday means shooting their guns. Don't they know the bullets come DOWN? And they say we have some of the tightest gun control laws of any states. Couldn't prove it by me.

I'm calling the little girl in my laundry room Indy (for Independence Day). I'm planning to run her to the vet this morning. Luckily they let me do stuff like that. Showing up unannounced with a cat. They'll work her in when they get a chance.

    I had replied:

Pam--What a wonderful time you had. I do hope today's visit with the ortho goes well. I do hope the surgery is scheduled for a good time for you.

Maryanne--I love the name "Indy." Very appropriate. July 4 is an excuse for much behavior that is not appropriate.

Please check the last quarter thread for other updated posts. Have a great day!

Dr. visit went well. He agreed to postpone scheduling the surgery until fall and understood my reasoning about the boot. I'll stay on the antibiotic, but that's not really a big deal. I'm just tired of trying to remember to take it three times a day. The mid day one often gets forgotten until it's almost time to take the last one, lol! He agreed to renew my handicapped parking permit, too. I still have difficulty walking distances, so it is very helpful to have that.

As expected, the scale reading was a little higher today, but not as bad as I had feared it would be.

Marianne, I love the name Indy for the new kitty. Has DH fallen for her, as you suspected he would? We get people shooting guns around here, too, but usually that's more of a New Years Eve issue, or if one of our sports team wins a championship, not that that's happened for quite awhile!

Pam--I am glad the doctor visit went well and that the surgery is being scheduled at a time more acceptable to you. It is also good that he has decided to renew the handicapped parking permit as you still have difficulties.

So far DH is resisting Indy. She's now at the vet to get totally checked out. If she's young enough to be adoptable I may board her there until the adoption cage opens up so that I don't fall further in love.

My goal for this quarter is to lose 12 pounds.

I went back to check up what I missed yesterday so now I'm caught up on everyone's happenings. Pam, delaying the surgery until fall is smart. It's hot enough in the summer without the discomfort of the boot. Maryanne, Indy is a pretty good name. Why would Pep Boys be mad at you? You didn't bring the cats beck behind them. And they may be keeping any rodent population at bay. I do miss having a cat but DH isn't ready for a new cat yet. It took him a year to be ready after we lost our first cat.
I've had a busy day already. I started out at the urologist and everything is good. The medication he has me on works well for me so I don't need to go back for a year. I thought many of the tourist left last night. We went to see fireworks and traffic was light so I figured those who had to work left early. Wrong! I had a couple of errands over the bridge and getting on the high way should have taken 5 minutes. It took 20 with all the cars trying to get over the 2 lane bridge to the mainland. I took the other bridge when I was going home and there was little traffic coming on Cape but there was a multi mile line of cars leaving.
Like Jean, I'm going to try for 10 pound. I have a physical with the new primary care doc in September so I'll see what I can do.

Maryanne--One pound a week; you can do it!!

Helene--Hectic holiday for you; We both have physician appointments as additional motivators.

This looks like what I may end up with today once I get my evening snack in:

I am off to the city for an appointment and lunch with my niece; my cousin had to cancel out. I will be having a reasonable meal, either the Outback 6 oz. sirloin or its Tilapia.

I am starving! You can certainly consume a lot of calories in a liquid diet but it doesn't fill you up. There's a reason I don't drink my calories.

Maryanne--You are doing the prep. For some reason, I never got very hungry doing the prep. It was as if the chicken broth, etc. kept me satisfied. I've often debated doing that for two days but have a feeling I would never make it. There are some solid foods that ignite a desire to eat, something the chicken broth didn't. I never eat jello, just drink stuff whenever I could.

Quaker Weight Control oatmeal for breakfast, plus a handful of prescription pills and supplements. Those supplements have calories in them, so I've started logging them.

I had a great day yesterday. It was one of the hottest days here on the East Coast. We decided to go out for lunch at a seafood restaurant that has outdoor seating. I made sure they had an umbrella table so we weren't in direct sun. I like this place because the patio overlooks a little inlet. We had a bit of a breeze, a view and the tang of salt air. I ordered the scallops and peppers skewers. The scallops were grilled and served on coconut rice. It came with street corn. I had to ask what that was. It was an ear of corn with Mexican spices and a little bit of shredded cheese on it. The whole lunch was delicious and the area was so relaxing. DH had shrimp spring rolls with a spicy peanut sauce with a small side spinach salad. Both were good choices. It was a late lunch so we weren't hungry enough for a normal dinner. We had a sandwich instead.

When we got home, there was a message for DH about an medical appointment on Friday afternoon. We've been waiting for a call about cardio rehab classes but as far as we knew, nothing had been scheduled yet. He called today and found out it's an exercise stress test so they can be sure he's healthy enough for the classes. I'm expecting him to do just fine and I'd love for him to start the classes ASAP. Since we leave for FL around December, I want him to have the time to complete the classes before then.

Ooh, scallops on the inlet. Sounds great! Even if I hadn't starved all day yesterday. LOL!

I survived the colonoscopy. Several small polyps; probably nothing to worry about. Tomorrow is the rescheduled thyroid biopsy. Being old is SUCH fun!

I was hungry yesterday because for some reason, in spite of my hunger, I couldn't stomach most of the foods on their list. By evening I would have killed for some pepto bismol but I figured that was a bad idea. I ended up eating about 3 green jello cups and next to nothing else with calories. Making up for it today.

The cats are all atwitter because the routine was off last night. Hopefully they'll settle down tonight.

I got an email from the vet with a reminder about Indy's "appointment" tomorrow. I guess they haven't had a chance to take a look at her yet.

Green jello? My least favorite flavor. But I guess you weren't allow red jello during your prep. I hadn't thought of jello in ages. I think I'll pick up some of the cups while I'm at the market today. I'm trying to control snacks after dinner. When I first started NS, I often did the jello cups and was satisfied. I need to dig up some of those old better habits from back then to help me stay on track.

I've never been a fan of jello of any color. To me, it's a complete waste of space in my tummy and whatever calories come with it, lol!

I've been out running many errands and between the heat and my ankle, I'm pretty tired out. I still find that if I'm doing a lot of walking my foot starts to hurt. I'll try to minimize it for the rest of the day. I'm hosting a thank you brunch a week from Saturday and needed to pick up a lot of things for it. I'm trying to spread out the cooking and other prep work as much as I can, making use of my freezer for some things. I made blueberry muffins yesterday and froze them, and I will make a raspberry cream cheese Coffeecake tomorrow. The two casseroles I'm planning can be made the night before and cooked the morning of the party, so the only thing I will need to make the day of is a fruit salad. I'm also planning a mimosa bar and a Bloody Mary bar so everyone can make their own drinks. I think I got most of the running around done today, so hopefully I can spread out the rest of the chores over the next week. I will have to shop the day before for the fresh fruit and some flowers, but hopefully that can be done in one place.

Helene, your lunch yesterday sounded fabulous. Mexican street corn is very popular around here, though I've never tried it. I love scallops, and the setting sounded lovely.

Maryanne, I'm glad you got through your colonoscopy relatively well. I hate the prep for those, but it is always a relief to be told everything is ok. I hope your thyroid biopsy goes better this time.

Jean, you do such a good job of tracking your food. I gave up on that awhile ago but I know it is very helpful.

How many guests are coming to the brunch? You're smart to spread the prep put over several days. Rest your leg as needed and maybe ice it if you've done too much walking. I really liked the street corn. It was a little spicy but not hot spicy. And I'm sure it was more figure friendly than slathered in butter.

Helene--The luncheon out sounds delicious. I've never heard of Mexican street corn. I do hope the stress test goes well for DH. Time will fly and you will be returning to Florida, so hopefully your DH will be able to complete the program.

Maryanne--Green jello? I haven't had jello for a very long time, but it definitely would not be green but I know anything red-based isn't permitted. I am glad you got through the colonoscopy and hope the thyroid biopsy goes well this time.

Pam--Your food prep sounds absolutely the best. I am sure that your thank you brunch will be a great success. Do take care of your foot. You may have given up on tracking food but you seem to do well at losing without tracking. I can track with good numbers except when I get on the scale.

I usually keep SF jello here for when I'm craving sweet. A squirt of FF rediwhip and I have a sweet snack for very few calories.

Green is probably my favorite! LOL!

I'm heading out in a few minutes for DH's stress test. Hopefully he does well and is cleaar for the cardio rehab classes. Maryanne..I usually get the assorted SF jello packs. If you lived near me, you could have all my green ones. LOL

Helene--I do hope DH's stress test went well. I am "green with envy" at Maryanne being considered a candidate for your leftover green jello.

Another decent food day here, but I had at Atkins pizza for dinner. It definitely is not as good as some of the other Atkins entrees. Lean Cuisine is far better.

DH inherited my leftover "regular" green jello - i.e. the ones with calories as well as my leftover Italian ice. LOL!

I survived the thyroid biopsy. She says she never does three so this is it. What that means I'm not clear on. I'm just hoping we get results from this one. If they do have to remove something I need to ask a lot of questions about whether the plan is to take half or all and what that means for my weight efforts (I haven't even googled it - I'm putting my head in the sand).

Helene - I hope the stress test went well!

I have to eat breakfast, feed the colonies and then get to work.

Had a call from the vet about Indy, the rescued cat. She will likely need eye surgery but is otherwise young, health and sweet. She has something called "cherry eye" that apparently is more common in dogs.

Maryanne--Let's hope that you do get results from this thyroid test. It is always good to ask questions.

I had Quaker Weight Control oatmeal with flaxseed added for breakfast. I add ground flaxseed for the Omega 3 benefits. All those supplements add calories to the routine. The cardiologist approved the addition of the flaxseed plus the Omega 3 chewies I take.

I've read that the flaxseeds have to be ground. Whole seeds will be passed right through the digestive system.I think they are useful for weight lass as well. I'm down a pound for the week. Only 9 to go before the end of the challenge. I'm mostly trying portion control this challenge as well as using up the NS foods I have left. I used my last Fit and Free pizza last night. I topped it with some homegrown basil leaves and little slices of Mozzarella. DH said it was the best version of the pizza I've made. I have a new batch on order. They were running a 25% off sale and they should show up next week.

Helene--I use ground flax seed. Too bad they aren't low in calories; 70 for a serving of ground flaxseed. Good job on the weight loss.

I just finished the last of my baking that can be done ahead of time. Yesterday I made cinnamon roll muffins and today I made the Coffeecake I plan to serve. I'm running out of space in the freezer, so it's a good thing that I'm done with the make ahead items, lol. I had intended to make the cake yesterday but was missing a key ingredient. DH was going to the store this morning while out doing other errands, so he did my shopping for me. Now I have to concentrate on decluttering and cleaning my house, always my least favorite household chores. Having a party is good incentive to get it done. I still have not heard from 4-5 of the invitees, but as it stands now I am expecting about 15 guests.

Pam--Your guests definitely will enjoy your goodies. There is nothing like expected guests to motivate one to clean, but I am sure that there is little to be done except to clean the baking utensils and tuck them away, etc.

I completed the One Mile of Leslie's Miracle Miles. It was 15 minutes including warm up. I went from heart rate of 65 to one of 98, but recovered to the upper 60s in about 5 minutes after I completed the mile. I will try to repeat it again this evening to make it a total of 30 minutes of exercise

Food plan went well today; came in at 50 calories below goal.

Did two sessions of Leslie Sansone walking dvds for a total of 30 minutes and two miles.
