Our insurance agent has never understood why I insist on having flood insurance. Maybe because I once lived in a townhouse that had previously been flooded to the top of the basement and while we lived in it were evacuated once? Or because now I live in a house that gets water in the basement when it rains and isn't all that far from the bay as the crow flies? Flood insurance is something like $40 a month. I figure small price to pay.

We recently placed a cat with a woman who owns a business in Ellicott City. We are wondering about her. Lil will email her eventually to find out how she is but since their last dog died overnight she's too devastated right now.

Well, that was all pretty rambling wasn't it? LOL!

I'm back from an early morning run to the city. I had my routine car checkup this morning followed by a focused shopping at WalMart for household items, appropriate food and kiitty items. The shopping cart was loaded down. The place was packed with "Back to School" shoppers.

When I went to the car, I popped the trunk lid and discovered some items for donation I had stuck in there a couple of days ago. I made some room, but the majority of the items found a home on the back seat and back floorboard.

Gas was amazingly cheap there today compared to home. I had enough to make it home but why not fill up when it was almost 30 cents cheaper on the gallon? After all, I had less than a quarter of a tank so it made sense to fill up.

Maryanne--How is that for rambling? I don't have flood insurance but I live up high but the road access does flood at times from the backwater.

    Weight Loss Calculator
    Results

You should consume about 1,200 calories a day to reach your goal weight of 140 lbs . This is at a reasonable weight loss average of 0.56 lbs per week, which should be reached by September 06, 2017.

Experts recommend weight loss at the rate of 0.5-2 lbs/week. Remember that this estimate is based on your body weight, height, age, gender, and activity level. It may vary slightly depending on other factors.

Generally, women should not consume any less than 1,200 calories per day, and men should not consume less than 1,500 calories per day.

Now, this is the result I got when I told it I wanted to reach my goal by June 1, 2017:

    Results

You should consume about 1,374 calories a day to reach your goal weight of 140 lbs by June 01, 2017.

Basically, what the calculator says is that to lose weight faster, I should eat 174 calories more a day for a 3 month difference and reaching goal faster. If you want to play with it, this one came from caloriecount.com.

Somewhere I have a book titled "How to Life with Statistics". Not sure why but those calculations made me giggle and then think of that book.

Indy had her surgery. Poor little thing. The eye they operated on is partially closed with stitches. Isn't stopping her from eating though.

Yesterday was a LONG day. I had her to Annapolis before 10 as requested. They didn't see us until 10:30. Then they wanted me to pick her up at 6. I was concerned about traffic so I went down early and sat with a book. They didn't see us until 6:30. This morning I have to feed the colonies and then take Indy back to the vet.

    Then I hope to CRASH!

Maryanne--You must be exhausted. I do hope Indy has a successful recovery. I didn't like that calculator and am trying to find some ray of hope so I just went and found another.

Basically, it told me that at my age, height, weight, and sedentary lifestyle, with 1200 cal a day that I would reach my goal in late April 2017. We have gone from September to June and now to April. Such an exact science!

I see Atkins is introducing meal kits: http://kits.atkins.com/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=newkits

I am tired. DH wanted to know if I was doing the grocery shopping shopping today. I'm sure he thought I looked at him like he has two heads because that IS how I looked at him. LOL!

Maryanne--Atkins has been pushing those meal kits for about a month. I read the reviews on each one of them. It is an option to consider. There was a big sale on them a couple of weeks ago. Couldn't you sweetly ask DH to take you out for dinner?

The handyman was just here. I am having new railings installed on a set of steps plus having a aging and falling apart downspout replaced. The rains have been hard on stuff.

Maryanne--Take DH for a drive and "accidentally" stop at your favorite restaurant. Easier said than done. It is times like what you are experiencing that I am glad I just answer to myself and Midnight when making a decision.

I've been so good; I've logged my food and have come in at the right spot each day. What is my reward? Zero!! I guess I got rid of the water last week so there is nothing more to lose.

I'll bet very few of them had flood insurance. When you don't live really close to a lake, river or the ocean, you tend to think you don't need it. We have it in FL partly because the mortgage requires it and also the island isn't much above sea level. The house is on pilings so it would have to be 10 deep before it got into the house so I feel we're preety safe. But I'm glad we have it just in case.
    Maryanne..Good luck with Indy.
Jean...Nice WL and the recipe looks good.
We spent two days truck shopping. My car lease had 3 months to go and we knew we wanted something different. DH really missed having a truck. We were able to end the lease 3 months early and we pick up a new Tacoma tomorrow. We bring so much stuff to FL, the truck will make life easier.

Maryanne--I am not one of those who loses every week; in one way, I would have preferred last week's total to have been divided over the two weeks to show that weight loss was taking place.

I have read that many can go for weeks after a "big"loss before losing again. The body has sensed that the water is gone so it starts holding on big time to keep the water in the fat cells. After a period of time, it realizes there is no need to hold on to the water so it suddenly sheds it resulting in another decent loss.

I just would like to see some progress each week and the scale is what tells me that as I have to lose a large amount for it to make a big difference in clothes. I have a goal to meet before I see the cardiologist and urologist the last of September and it doesn't look good.

Helene--Enjoy the new truck. It definitely would make taking things to Florida easier, plus many trucks now ride as comfy as cars.

Helene - a Tacoma? WOW! I do miss my Explorer. It was the best thing ever in snow. But I needed more room so went to the Sienna. I always thought I'd love to have a big truck until I rented one. I have to confess. I had a tough time getting in and out of that thing.

The truck has a step bumper so you don't have to make the a giant step up to get in. You do two smaller steps up. The inside is really plush and comfy, just like a car. The seats are wider and not as contoured as the RAV4. The RAV4 killed my back on long rides. The old truck was easier om my back so I'm figuring this will be similar. This is the smaller sized truck than what we had before. I was fine driving the old trick. Of course I can't parrell park it but I could do it in the RAV4 either. I do it so seldom that I lost the ability. I'm usually parking in shopping center type lots. There's limited on street parking where I live. We pick the truck up this afternoon and I'm kind of excited to get it.

Helene--The truck sounds like a winner. I don't remember the last time I did parallel parking.

Helene, I hope you and DH enjoy that new truck. That's a nice versatile size and won't be as difficult to maneuver as a full size truck. I still have to parallel park fairly often as the downtown area of my town has that. Most of the time I can do it fairly easily, but it's a busy street so if I don't get it the first time I usually give up,and search for a different spot. There are some public lots behind Main Street with angled parking, but they aren't as convenient to the stores. My town has an old-fashioned but very vibrant downtown area with a lot of great stores and restaurants that I enjoy. I don't go as often during the summer due to the heat, but the rest of the year I enjoy spending an afternoon there. I nearly always find some unique gift items and cute clothes when I go.

It's been a dull week around here. Not much going on and I think the highlight of the week so far was a pedicure on Tuesday, lol! Today I will go to our First Friday Happy Hour, so I'm looking forward to that. I thought I was going to go down to Houston next weekend to help my SIL reupholster her dining room chairs, but she wasn't able to get the time off she requested. So now we are thinking we may do it closer to the end of the month if she can get those days off. When she moved to Houston from El Paso last year they didn't wrap two of the chairs well enough and the cane backing got torn on two of the chairs. At the time I suggested covering that part of the chairs with fabric but she didn't seem interested. Suddenly, she's seen a picture of exactly what I suggested and now thinks that's what she wants. She's the type that doesn't think anything is a good idea unless it's HER idea, so enough time has passed that she doesn't remember that I suggested this approach a year ago. I offered to come and help her do it, which she eagerly accepted, but she's having a hard time getting a couple of days off from work when I can come.

DH is getting ready for a camping trip in Colorado. He leaves next Friday for a week. I'll enjoy a week of peace and quiet and he'll enjoy a week in the cool mountain air.

Where could I get DH to go for a week? Hmmmmm...... I guess not this week as Thursday is our 43rd anniversary.

The lady across the street from us and her vehicle have not been seen for at least a week. We're starting to wonder if maybe they broke up. I just hope nothing untoward has happened. I guess I read too much true crime. All I can think of is "I hope this isn't one of those cases where later on someone says 'why didn't anyone in the neighborhood call the police?'" LOL!

This isn't a neighborhood where folks do any more than nod to each other in passing.

Although DH said the new person on the corner did talk to him. All my efforts to say "heh" to him have been ignored and since he's always walking his pit bull I didn't push it. (He's an older gentlemen and just doesn't seem to fit the pit.)

Maryanne--My neighborhood is similar to yours. No visiting but perhaps a nod or less if they pass you while out. I guess if an unusual scent starts permeating the air then it might be an indication that something is amiss. I also read too many mystery/thrillers, etc.

Pam--Enjoy your week of peace and quiet. I think it is great that you don't feel the need to be with each other all the time. I know a couple that are always together on trips regardless of how the wife dislikes an event, destination, etc. The "little woman" must accompany the man.

It s another dreary day. I keep thinking each day that I will go to the city or do something but with the yucky weather, it has just been comfortable sitting here, doing web searches, watching TV, etc. while doing some decluttering.

In general, we have a very friendly neighborhood, with a couple of exceptions. One of those lived next door to us until this week. They were our neighbors for more than 20 years and I probably saw and spoke to the wife twice in all of that time. She would literally turn her head the other way and ignore you if you waved to her in passing, and once completely ignored DH when he said hello by walking right past him and going into her house. They moved out this week and our new neighbor are a younger couple with three kids whom I've already seen chatting with other neighbors, so hopefully they'll be a more friendly addition to the neighborhood.

DH doesn't leave on his trip until next Friday, so this week will be devoted to him getting his camper trailer ready, assembling all of the food, etc. that he will need, and him "instructing" me on the things I will need to handle while he's gone, like the pool maintenance, lawn watering schedule, bills to pay, etc.

Very early on in our married life we had some issues with neighbors (once in PA and again in MD) and I think it's made us very wary of getting involved. Sad, but true!

Helene - I'd love a truck like you're describing. Maybe once I don't need the van for shows any more. Our street probably should have no street parking but it is permitted on one side. When the snow plow comes through if you happen to be parked on the street, it's a problem. It was never a problem for my Explorer! I do miss that truck!

Jean - between our vivid imaginations and mystery/crime books you and I can envision many things. But I hadn't thought about "sniffing" until you mentioned it. Hee hee.....

Forbes magazine has a list of authors that make the most money. James Patterson - at $95 million - is in his own league! #2 I never heard of - Jeff Kinney. Seems to be a children's author or a cartoonist (not sure). Then to no one's surprise you get Stephen King, J. K. Rowling, John Grisham Nora Roberts and Danielle Steele. The bottom 1/3 or so of the list I mostly never heard of - guess they aren't "my genre".

Maryanne--I never heard of #2 author either. I think I am out of the loop on some of them.

Pam--The week will pass quickly. Preparation for DH's trip can be fun at times.

The next 15 days forecast calls for rain each day except for two.

Off to record my food for the day as of lunch.

Many of the people in my neighborhood are summer people. The people across the street were summer only and the wife was like the woman Pam described. They must have been there 10 years and she would dash to her car without a look or wave even if we were in the front yard. I haven't met the new people yet but they are friendly. Dh met the husband a few weeks ago. He met the wife, her mom and their dog and had a little chat. The people next to us were weekenders and have always been friendly. They sold their other home last year after retiring and are here full time now. I like both of them very much. People walk here with or without dogs and most will say hello or wave even if they don't know you. I usually ask DH if we know that dog when I see someone approaching. He's in the yard gardening more than me so he knows some of the dogs' names. We wave and say hello even if we don't know them.

Here, people generally do not walk; they hop in their cars and go as in my area of the 'hood,' there are no sidewalks and the homes, although close enough to see, can be walked but no one does. I do have a neighbor very close to me who I can see if we are in our back yards at the same time. His driveway is on the opposite side and opens to a state route so I never see their cars unless I'm driving in that area. If I am out in the yard and someone drives down the hill street, I'll wave at them. Sometimes, they wave back and at other times, they don't.

Tomorrow is the official weigh in day. I think I will go to the city tomorrow to get my nails done and see a movie. Believe it or not, I've ben very good at this program for two weeks.

Our little subdivision consists of 43 or 44 (I can never remember which it is) homes and we have a mandatory homeowners association, so we do get to know everyone in the 'hood, at least by name and number and ages of their kids. The overwhelming majority are very friendly, nice people who look out for each other and enjoy socializing together. It's a nice mix of ages and professions and everyone takes good care of their homes and yards. The only complaint I have had in the past had to with what I called "free range" dogs. For some reason, most of my neighbors would allow their dogs to roam without leashes, and often without their owners even being out with them. Most of the dogs were big, friendly yellow labs, but one or two would occasionally get aggressive, plus you never knew when one might run in front of a car. I always lived in dread of accidentally hitting one of them. Fortunately, nowadays most of those owners have stopped letting their dogs roam, so it's not a problem any longer. For awhile we also had one neighbor whose dogs would bark nonstop for hours and they were oblivious to it. All of the neighbors who lived near them complained loudly and often and they eventually got a handle on it, but that was extremely irritating. We have so desalts and live very close to a large city park, so overall it's a pretty great neighborhood in a very nice location. We are 15 minutes from D/FW airport but rarely hear any noise related to it and we are 30 minutes or less from downtown Dallas or Fort Worth. Now that DH and I are both retired we can schedule and plan most of our outings to avoid rush hour traffic, so we can enjoy living in a large metropolitan area without dealing with that frustration. We've talked about moving somewhere else now that we don't need to live near jobs, but neither of us can think of any place we'd rather live, so it looks like we'll stay here, at least for the foreseeable future.

I'd never heard of that author either, but I don't read children's books, lol!

Pam--You are located in a great area with so many conveniences. I can't imagine living that close to an airport. I enjoy my limited travel but it usually requires me to go to one of the airport cities the night before if it is a morning flight. One and a half hours to the capital city which has connections to hub cities, or three and a half hours to a much bigger airport with higher fares.

I lost a pound last week for a total of six in two weeks. Right now, I'm dealing with bloat. Yesterday's very loose rings are now tight.

Maryanne--Thanks. For some reason, it seems to be easier this time., When I first went on NS, I did well but I watched everything carefully just as I am now with real food. I'll keep eating NS but I'll wait until at least two more weeks.

I went to the city today, and visited with a friend. Afterwards, I got my nails done and picked up some groceries at Wal-Mart.

While in Wal-Mart, I discovered something I read about on one of the threads on MFP. It is called Artic Zero. It is a fake ice cream made out of whey soy. You can eat a whole pint and still only eat 150 calories. It also has protein in it with zero fat. I decided to get a pint. I figured it would be all melted by the time I got home. Since I hadn't eaten lunch, I decided the pint of "ice cream" would be lunch for 150 calories and 7g of protein.

I got half of it eaten and couldn't eat more. It is very filling and doesn't cause me to crave more like Skinny Cow does. I got the chocolate and peanut butter flavor. Of course, it doesn't have the perfect ice cream taste but it is very good. The negative is that it isn't cheap but it is a great food reward after two weeks of not having anything remotely like ice cream. I would buy it again. I think it was a little over $5 for a pint.

When I was checking out, the check out girl looked at it and read the nutritional info, smiled and said, "I can have this to eat. I'm a diabetic and look for things I can have." Then we got into talking about low carbing while she finished checking me out.
