Third Quarter of 2016: We Can Do This!!

Jean - LOVE the black cat graphic. Smokie and Jack say "right on"!
Pam - I'm glad your party went so well!
Helene - I can't imagine not having water with meals. Growing up we always had water and usually a pitcher on the table for refills.
I buy cut up watermelon for DH. It's not bad this time of year. In the winter it can be pretty tasteless.
Got my colonoscopy report - no cancer.
Tomorrow I have my annual CT scan of my lungs and then I think I get a break from tests/doctors (for me anyway). Yeah!0 -
Just set up my Amazon Echo. It is the greatest device since the Kindle. It is currently playing Blake Shelton thanks to my request, "Alexa, play Blake Shelton." I also got the weather on request. It does all kinds of neat things. I got it because of poor radio reception here, so it will relay my favorite station wirelessly.
Plays all your music from Prime Music, Spotify, Pandora, iHeartRadio, TuneIn, and more using just your voice
• Fills the room with immersive, 360º omni-directional audio
• Allows hands-free convenience with voice-control
• Hears you from across the room with far-field voice recognition, even while music is playing
• Answers questions, reads audiobooks and the news, reports traffic and weather, gives info on local businesses, provides sports scores and schedules, and more using the Alexa Voice Service
• Controls lights, switches, and thermostats with compatible WeMo, Philips Hue, Samsung SmartThings, Wink, Insteon, Nest, and ecobee smart home devices
• Always getting smarter and adding new features and skills--over 1,500 added since launch, including Domino's and Uber
You can also set alarms and timers by voice commands. Read the reviews of over 39,000. This was a Prime Day purchase in which I saved $50. I'm not regretting this "want."

I couldn't get the sf version yesterday because they're cherry. I wanted them for my colonoscopy prep day. I ended up with lemon fruit bars. They had no exttra sugar added. I think they were 89 calories but since I'm doing all liquids, I think I can spare the calories for a serving or two. I've got everything I need in the house. Prep day is tomorrow.0
-
Helene--Good luck with the prep day. I usually live on low sodium chicken broth when I do that, and the odd thing is that I am rarely hungry.0
-
Nasty storm; furniture blown off deck; high winds; dark skies; heavy rain. Cable is now out!0
-
Helene - good luck with the prep day!
I had my annual CT scan this morning. Now I get a little bit of a break from tests.
Stopped at the vet on the way home and had a chance to actually chat with the vet a little about the CROM cats under their roof and about Jessicat. Always nice to talk to her directly.0 -
I just got home from a fun shopping trip with a couple of friends. We went over to Dallas to shop the Nordstrom's semiannual sale and we had a nice lunch at a very interesting restaurant that George and Laura Bush frequent. They weren't there today, but we had a very nice lunch. This morning I had to go and get blood drawn as part of my annual physical, so I did that first then drove over to my friend's house. I was hoping to find some shoes at Nordstrom but no luck today. I still had fun looking and really didn't need anything, so it was a good outcome.
Helene, good luck with your prep and exam tomorrow. I hope all goes well for you. It will be nice to get it over with.
Tomorrow I have to get my mammogram done, then I'll be done with tests for awhile, too.0 -
Pam--I do hope all your lab tests turn out well. The lunch sounded nice. Sorry you didn't find the shoes. I usually find the "buy" when I am not really looking for something.
Helene--I do hope your colonoscopy goes well today. I know that the food will taste great when you are finally able to eat.
Maryanne--The storm moved quickly but for the period of time it visited, it was nasty. No damage here.0 -
Trivia for the day. I was on the Eggbeaters site which has a calculator that tells you how many calories, etc. you will save if you use Eggbeaters instead of eggs. For example, if you use two eggs a day, switching to Eggbeaters will save you 450 calories a week or the equivalent of 113 minutes of jumping jacks or 50g of fat. Now! To jump 113 minutes or eat Eggbeaters?0
-
I compromise and use one egg and the rest egg beaters. I was pleased to see the one grocery store restocked the Southwestern. Even its space on the shelf was gone but it's back. Now if they'd just restock the Florentine!
I've basically been "off the wagon" since my colonoscopy. The Plan is to get back on tomorrow.
Jessicat's internist called. DH talked to him but didn't get much info. Biopsy was inconclusive. My poor Jessicat. I can so relate! Now I have to wait for him to call me back to hear our options.0 -
Poor Jessicat! If one undergoes a biopsy, one wants definite results. I know all about being off the wagon. I got frustrated when gaining weight on 1200 calories, so it had to be sodium and fluid retention. The problem is the fluid weight has not disappeared, so my immature attitude was if I gain weight from being good, I might as well relax the food a little and see if that works.0
-
I talked to Jessicat's internist. There is another test they can do on the tissue samples they already have which ups the cost quite a bit but might give us a cancer diagnosis. Since treatment for lymphoma is different than treatment for IBD I said "go ahead". The good news is the insurance company is covering this pretty much without quibble so far.0
-
Maryanne--You are fortunate to have insurance that will cover the expense.
Made a run to the city for an appointment, and since I had a 30% off coupon for Kohls, I thought I would check it out and then get groceries at Wal-Mart. I must not have been in a shopping mood. After spending almost 2 hours in Kohls, I left empty handed and went straight home without dealing with the Wal-Mart crowd and groceries. I don't feel great and am running a temperature.

The local medical clinic called this morning to let me know that I had a lab order awaiting me at the front desk. I had known what the primary would want done plus the cardiologist always wanted a test that they usually didn't order. As a result, I decided one time was enough so I called and let them know I needed an order for a lab test and told them what test results were needed.0
-
You were smart to have them combine them. We do that so we only have to go to the lab once. I hope your feeling better today. Procedure went well yesterday and I had a very long nap when I got home. I'm all set for 5 years.1
-
Helene--Good news on the procedure and the results.0
-
Helene - good job!
My annual CT scan showed no change in the lung nodules. They went so far as to write they'd presume benign and stop scanning. We'll see what my oncologist says next month. I'm okay continuing the CT scans if he wants - that's one test I don't mind!
After two weeks off the food wagon I feel like crap. I wish I'd remember this feeling before I go off the wagon.
Jessicat is on her second day of prednisolone (the form of prednisone (spell check suggests "prisoner" as the correct spelling of that word, huh????) they use on cats) and I'm amazed at what she's doing. She actually got up on a cat tree yesterday, she went out in the tunnel to the cat porch, she came for breakfast. That's powerful stuff. We still await results from the additional lab test. He suggested taking her off the Tramadol to see how the pred alone does and that's what I'm trying.
Raccoons are eating our tomato crop. DH is annoyed. I suggested we put out cat food to divert their attention but no sale.

Maryanne--It would be wonderful if our memories would kick in and prevent us from deviating from what is good for us. Jessicat is really showing improvement. Tomatoes versus cat food? Sneak out the cat food without DH knowng.
The weather here is great! Sunny with a heat index of around 100 today and possibly higher tomorrow. I love Summer! Winter sux!
I just returned from a visit to the "vampires." I think they took a "gallon" of blood for at least a "thousand" tests. I can't have another lipid panel (part of the tests) for a year and thyroid for six months as insurance will not pay if done earlier. Expensive little tests...over $200 if out of pocket.
I just had breakfast but have a lingering headache. The coffee hasn't kicked in yet.0 -
I wouldn't put out cat food. The raccoons will think it's breakfast buffet at your house. The problem would start when you stop feeding them. Pick the tomatoes green and ripen them in a paper bag. Or have friend green tomatoes. I finally tried the JB sausage frittatas. I had a hard time finding them around here. I really liked it.0
-
One of the colonies I'm now feeding has a raccoon family (at least until the guys at the garage "take care of it"). After googling what raccoons like to eat I just put out a big bowl of cat food in back of the shelters for the raccoons.
There are still pockets of woods here and there in this area (although they are disappearing rapidly) and this colony is on the edge of one of those pockets.0 -
I just checked out the cost of the Success A La Carte program at NS:
Agent (Jerry): "The Nutrisystem Success A La Carte membership program offers you the freedom to choose, with unlimited options. You can order the Nutrisystem meals or snacks you like best and then complement them with other low glycemic, right-sized meals you prepare yourself. As a member, you'll receive a 20% discount and free shipping and handling in the Continental U.S. only, on all a la carte orders for the period of membership.
07/22/2016 06:36:51PM Agent (Jerry): "Membership Costs
:"
07/22/2016 06:36:56PM Agent (Jerry): "Success a la carte 1 month – $29.98"
07/22/2016 06:37:00PM Agent (Jerry): "Success a la carte 3 months – $34.99"
07/22/2016 06:37:05PM Agent (Jerry): "Success a la carte 6 months – $49.99"
07/22/2016 06:37:10PM Agent (Jerry): "Success a la carte 12 months - $99.99"

Jean, are the prices quoted for a membership with the cost of the food additional to whatever membership option you select? I'm not sure I understand. It seems they've really changed up the program since I left it.0
-
The Success A La Carte is what I get. $34.99 for 3 months. It's just a fee, no food. It gets you 20% off a la carte orders plus free shipping. If you order only a la carte like I do it doesn't take long to save money. I've never been willing to sign up for any of their full programs.0
-
The cost is the membership fee. You add to that the cost of the discounted food. I'm still on that 35 day program which gives 35 days of food for $259 and free shipping. I get an order about every 3 months. It is basically $7.40 a day of food for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.
I have several of those Costco cards which gives $100 off the order for the $50 I paid so basically, I use two of them and pay $59 for the food or if you count the cost of the two cards used, $159 for 35 days of food or $4.54 a day.
My favorite NS Veggie lasagna is $5.49 as are some other entrees. At the 20% discount, the veggie lasagna is $4.39. Add to that the membership fee. It boils down to do I want one meal a day for $4.39 + membership fee or do I want a full day of meals for $4.54 a day. I would probably go for the yearly fee as I like the NS entrees, so if I did 4 shipments based upon what I do now, the yearly fee would equate to $25 a shipment. Obviously, the current program I am on is the bigger buy. The core program which permit selection of food if you sign up now is $9.27 a day.0 -
I guess maybe the success a la carte is a savings only for those of us who are already committed - for non financial reasons - to not be on one of their autoship plans. Looks like I should sign up for a year, though, since apparently I'm never going to stop dieting. LOL!!!
I went to the hairdresser and then fed the colonies. It's SO hot outside. But the wildlife was out. At the one colony I surprised a groundhog and a deer.0 -
The prices you quoted are for the shelf-stable foods, right? I don't the think it makes sense for me because I got so tired of the food that I couldn't make myself eat it anymore. I might like some of the frozen entrees, but they seemed a lot more expensive than similar items I could find in the grocery store. Since I would still need to cook dinner for DH most nights, it's easier to just make things we both like and try to control the calories and fat while cooking whatever we are having. If I were alone, I might be more tempted to try NS again, though.0
-
Maryanne--I went to the city and stopped at Wal-Mart on the return to get some groceries. Wal-Mart had both the small and large cartons of the Southwestern Eggbeaters. I didn't think to check for Florentine.
Pam--As someone who cooks for just one, I've found NS to be a big plus for me. I love its Italian items, but I also get Lean Cuisine, etc...and I live on 93% fat free ground beef, pre-grilled chicken, canned chicken, tuna, Gorton's tilapia, etc. As I said, I only get an NS shipment every 3 months so there is plenty of time to spread the NS out among all the other items I buy in the store.
It was 98 in the city with a heat index around 108. It was like breathing fire when out of the car.0 -
Had the Southwestern Eggbeaters with mushrooms added for breakfast.
I plan to go back to the city today to see Star Trek Beyond. I wasn't able to fit it into the schedule yesterday.
