Snoozie, I love it my three favorites, and they are all equally delicious in my eyes. I never want to eat pasta without wine. They go hand in hand or should I say hand to mouth lol.

Wow, a 7-mile hike Suzy that is so awesome at least, you were able to get sleep with the advil pm.

Snoozie thanks for the make sense advice, back to my sambuca.

Hi all! I've been MIA in too ... I've been finding MFP very, very slow recently, and very frustrating - I've often been logging into just to put my weight on and have a quick look at my friends posts and that's it. I also haven't been at my best - I can tell you ladies here because I know you'll understand but I'm really struggling with "the change" at the moment. It's the disturbed sleep and finally waking up feeling as if I have mixture of PMS and a hangover. And that's without drinking alcohol. I have a feeling (although I'm not sure) that alcohol makes it worse so I'm virtually abstaining at the moment. (Although I love the idea of dark beer counting as whole grains, Carol! I like to tell myself that wine is one of my five a day - it's only grapes, after all!).

The picture you posted of the food choices, SuzyQ, unfortunately I'm drawn to all of it. All the food. I suppose there is some food I don't like, but ... not very much. I do eat loads of vegetables though, and very little of the food on the left, so at least I'm working with it! Congratulations on the 10 hour sleep! That's a great achievement! I agree with you that sleep seems to be connected to weight.

The one meal a day thing is going OK, Snooozie! Apart from a snack in the night last night. It's actually more difficult than I thought not overeating at the one meal, though. I am a master at getting a lot of calories in ... it's something I need to unlearn! I do focus on mainly vegetables, with some protein food - usually low carb, but sometimes not. But I have to go easy on things like cheese and nuts which I'm not being careful enough with at the moment.

Vail I can TOTALLY relate to the symptoms.. some of mine have reared their ugly head again.. an occasional hot flash which haven't happened in a while.. and the sleep thing. i'm up several times a night so I know i'm not getting a solid one... plus im feeling sleepy thru the day :(

im glad you're doing ok with the meal plan at the moment... I hear ya on the master of calories believe me!

I've had a *kitten* of a week.. my back went out and took my left leg with it... so I was flat for 3 days before I could start to hobble around using crutches to get to the bathroom etc.. and on the 2nd day my right shoulder/arm went out on me.. i think from using the crutches ... anyway I was like a fish flopping around out of water.. it was actually kinda scary being so helpless as I couldn't push myself around in bed and was living on pain killers and muscle relaxants.. however... i'm mobile again and VERY GRATEFUL for that.. arm is still not 100% so hoping the referral to the shoulder guy comes soon and he can do soething - and at least tell me if what causes it is the muscle tear or the cyst ... anyway it is working pretty good again and as I said i'm SO grateful i'm mobile again.. and all that whining aside, it was a brutal wake up call to remind me that HEALTH is everything.... I got on the scale and even tho I was just living on pb&j sandwiches (easy to cart around in a baggie and keep by my bed without spoiling) the scales went up as well.. but it's more the overall health thing that really hit home... when I was feeling sorriest for myself I thought seriously is this what you want for the next 30 yrs or whatever you've got left?? NO!!

SO it's time to get back to the business of taking care of myself .... for the right reasons. I have a regular sched doc apt next week for my 6 month blood sugars and usual bloodwork so i'll talk to my doc then and in the interim, start back at the beginning. I've been deluding myself into thinking I haven't backslid (is that a word?) as much as I have... so time to put all that behind me and just focus on starting over - right from scratch. And that's ok because I KNOW I can do it - I will take the positive knowledge that I've already done it once so I can do it again and focus on that and actually start DOING the work. To start I am going to be logging again faithfully - it worked the first time so .. back to the start right? I have set my diary to private for the time being tho, simply because I want to be completely honest with myself about what i'm putting in my mouth - i'll open it again once I start turning things around! :)

So that's where I am right now.... and i'm thankful you guys are here and put up with me lol..

hugs and happy trails to us!

Oh no, Snoozie, that sound really awful! How terrifying to be in that position! I'm glad your much better, but I do hope you get it sorted out so it doesn't happen again. You are so right about health being important. I feel it much more now than I did when I was younger (when you think you're invincible!).

I always have a private diary too, for various reasons - most of the time, I'm not actually logging, but I do think it's a good idea and does encourage you to be honest as nobody else will know - ha ha! I have even kept a private paper diary when I'm not counting calories - it does help to write it all down, for some reason. I haven't been doing that for a while, though. Best of luck with your new regime. Yes, you can do it!

Thanks vail - when I first came to MFP I did keep my diary private the first few months because quite frankly I was too embarrassed for other people to see what I was really eating - I think actually if I remember right the first few days in, somebody made a comment one time when I had put in the potato chips i ate... something like did you really eat all those?? it really did a number on me and I almost packed it in lol - but fortunately I decided to close my diary and look for a group of like minded women and lucked in to the Hatters! You guys have gotten me thru right from the start, while I was learning and panicking when I wasn't losing any weight at all at the start :)

So I figure since i'm starting over, this is the best place to start - seeing what i'm actually consuming every day (I think i'm already suffering a bit of sticker shock lol) and while I don't feel any need to hide my diary from any of the hatters, I do have a few other friends outside the group on here that i'm not as comfortable with about this :)

thanks for the commiseration.. it did suck and did scare me - but im gonna use it to smarten up!! :):)

Vail-so sorry about the raging hormones and sleep disruption :| I still get nightsweats and frequent sleep issues, so I can totally relate to the frustration of being a zombie. I hope things settle down soon for you.

Snooozie- OMG, so sorry to hear of your recent terrible time with your back and limbs! How awful! SO glad you are doing better at this point, and I sure hope that referral comes through quickly and they are able to get to the bottom of your shoulder issue. I love your attitude of using this to "smarten up". And as far as the private diary thing goes, I totally understand. I have kept mine private for a very long time now so that I will be totally honest with my recording and not feel that I may be judged or be embarrassed or anything like that.

I was doing a good job staying on track for awhile, then goofed up a few days before getting redetermined to stay on track but then the same day I got re motivated- BLAM -I got some really bad news concerning my mother's recent serious further decline from yet another series of strokes, got emotionally devastated, and all went to hell in a hand basket. I am trying to get myself together emotionally so I can concentrate on my own health again, at least until I get that final phone call which could come in a day, a week, a month or a few months. Damn, this is a hard one.

Good morning ladies, Snoozie that is no joke with the back, hope you feel better soon.
Back to the Sambuca, Thanks Snoozie you are right it is not worth losing sleep and saving a little calories. I am still having the flashes but a lot less.

I am fighting a real war here with the food and I am having such bad constipation. I thought the Sambuca had solved that problem but then when I stopped drinking it, the constipation came back with a vengeance. Any suggestions besides laxatives?

Snoozie!! Oh, sorry to hear about the issues you're having. And to be alone ...but I know you are a fighter. Sending {{{{{{hugs}}}}} and well wishes your way!!

Vail, luckily I didn't go through all the Meno- symptoms...I had a hysterectomy at 35...don't know if that is why or not....jus' glad I didn't from the sound of what you girls go through... a good excuse to sleep "nekkid" or with a fan near by...

Seehe & milove, I am having a time with the food myself...no so much too much , but what I am eating...Sweets have crept back in. I need to go back for an A1C...maybe it will scare the bejesus out of me again...

Seehe , I am taking the Alpha linoleic ...I know it's probably misspelled, but you know the one. Also adding some chromium picolinate ...to help with sugar cravings.. fingers crossed xxxx

milove. I drink a small glass of cold water with 2 tbsp. of ground flaxseed...works petty good. plus I am getting my Omega 3's in.

    Suzy, another great hike!!
Carol..... dark beer, huh.... goes well with dark chocolate?

    Later!!

milove - I suffer from constipation a LOT so I feel your pain ... literally hahaha. I take a magnesium supplement in powder form called Natural Calm - you dissolve a tsp in 1/4 cup of water 2x a day and one of the supposed side affects is "loose bowels". Well, Ive never had a loose anything LOL.. BUT it does help a bit .. my doc told me to take the magnesium cause most of us are deficient but also because its helps calm the nerves thru your body.. your physical ones that is.. because my muscles and nerves supposedly have stayed in the "fight" mode of 'fight or flight" for so long (instead of relaxing like they're supposed to) the magnesium helps them "calm" down. I do take senna tabs very occasionally, but not very often as my doc also warned any laxative type stuff can make your bowels lazy... :* but the senna is a natural leaf thing as opposed to exlax and stuff like that.. and up the water intake I find that helps a lot.

Right then.. if you can't talk about bowels with your hatters, who can ya with?? lol

will be right back with a bit more.. gotta eat but while it's heating up..

Susan - i'm so sorry to hear about your mom's decline in health .... and knowing what kind of impact the news you got can have on anyone, its no wonder you turned to food.. ive always been an emotional eater and used food for comfort so I totally relate. Sending hugs and prayers for your mom and you xo

thanks for the commiserations on the back/arm stuff.. it was a bad week but its over and im just grateful it is! I did my first short walk back at the lake this morning; it was cold but ok.. then both feet went into spasms on the way home - that was a fun drive! lol I am gonna have to suck it up and start using the treadmill when its too cold this month...

i'm finding even with 2 days of logging that I am seeing I am eating WAY over what I thought I was calorie wise.... which of course is the point.. but... am just focusing on eating well and eating less while pumping in everything to watch the numbers...

gail lovely to see you.... I may have enuf shock value from my A1C test next week for the both of us to be scared straight - i'll let ya know!! lol hang in there kidido.. you kicked the habit before you can wean yourself off it again.. baby steps!!

Great info about the magnesium, Snooze. I have some, just forget to take it...This will help me....I could use a bit of relaxation down there.
Spasms while driving....You are some tough cookie!!

Yea, if we all talked more poop with others , there might not be so much colon cancer.. Doctors even treat it as taboo...

Seehe , sorry to hear about your mom's health. I must have missed it, when trying to catch up on reading.

Lol Gail - true !! Milove I forgot also a nurse at the diabetes centre suggested some studies have shown eating all bran buds every day have lowered cholesterol - I hate them but I try to eat it 2-3 times a week mixed wit a handful of Cheerios or granola - it might help with your prob but increasin fibre without a lot of water can also make constipation worse

Snoozie - so sorry to hear about your health issues! That sounds awful! Hopefully it's all working out of your system. I'm intrigued about the magnesium and may have to try that. Hang in there! I know you'll do great with your refocusing on your health!

Milove - I take a probiotic everyday and try to drink lots of water. I've used an herbal tea before called Smooth Move that helped a bit but the probiotics have really made a difference.

Vail- I sometimes wonder if I'll have night sweats and hot flashes for the rest of my life. It's not everyday or night but it's no fun. I freeze sitting in the living room and when I first get in bed. A couple hours later I'm stripping down to a t-shirt and throwing off the covers! I've gotta say...I don't miss that monthly "visit" at all though! Hahaha!

Susan - I am so so sorry to hear about your mom. That's really got to be so hard. Sending hugs and some good thoughts your way. Don't be too hard on yourself while going through this difficult time.

Gail - I've totally lost control of my sweet tooth. I just seemed to have lost my way for a bit but today I was refocused and even stocked up on some healthy alternatives. Sweets are my downfall...that's for sure.

I had to write January off as a maintenance month. I'm back though. Taking February by the horns!

suzy... I had to take a probiotic once when I was on antibiotics.. apparently they kill off the good bacteria along with the bad so my doc put me on a probiotic while I was taking them... I've often thought about taking them every day but there are sooooooo many out there and its awfully confusing.. plus to be honest the thought of taking another pill every day freaks me out... why do you take one if you don't mind my asking??

ohhh on the smooth move ... lol love the name!! Just reminded me milove a friend swears by something called "bowel buddies" .. they're a COOKIE but they are in the organic or laxative sections of the grocery store lol..... see we'l get your bowels moving one way or the other!! LOL...

vail/suzy I haven't suffered much after the first 2 years but omg on the freeze thing too.. I've only discovered that lately.. actually after I lost all my weight nad I thought it was cause I didn't have as much fat keeping me warm LOL... but that's obviously not the case with my regain !! i'm the same and I turn my electric blankie up to high when I get in BED while my teeth are chattering... and 1/2 hr later i'm kicking my feet like crazy to get it off me before I melt!! then thru the night up to pee and teeth chattering lol. but like you I do NOT miss my period at ALL..... I honestly wouldn't trade my current flashes/moments for it back either lol!

I just watched a really interesting show on something called the Metabolism Plan.. anyone ever heard of it?? my ears perked up when she said eat potato chips LOL.. actually it was onlyl a little interview thing on a talk show but it was interesting in that she was talking about cortisol.... how it kills weight loss and how so many things raise the levels in our bodies.. lack of sleep, exercise.... she said getting up 2 hrs early to exercise just releases more cortisol (I knew exercise was considered a stresser.. but that ws a first lo). and talked about how that egg white omelllete with spinach for lunch could be whats causing those cookie cravings at 3pm! I didn't get enough of the show to understand it .... but basically its figuring out what foods cause "irritation" in each person.. its different for everyone.. actually it was causes inflammation in each person... not irritation lol.. but was abut finding the right foods AND the right exercise that won't release cortisol - for each person. but also said its not true that our metabolism slows as we age its just that we're eating things that cause inflammation... but while suzy may be able to eat broccoli, I may not... anyway it was interesting.. completely different take on losing weight ... I dunno.. potato chips, more sleep, less exercise?? ya I would be willing to try THAT LOL

I'm sorry to hear about your mother, Susan. No wonder that has knocked you off course. It's so difficult to focus on eating correctly when something else is draining your emotional energy. There's nothing I can say - it's just such a sad situation to be in. I know what you mean about waiting for that phone call.

Talking of bowels, funny you should bring that up because I've just ordered some glucomannan (konjac fibre), because it was in a sale. It is supposed to promote healthy bacteria too ... we'll see! I did actually read a whole book about the microbiome and gut health, but I can't remember it all. I seem to remember that there was only good evidence for a specific brand/mix of probiotics. Also that gut bacteria can be altered by diet and so on. I came out of thinking it was all very important, but not sure what to do about it. Except that it did encourage me to eat unpasteurised cheeses!

Vail - that made me laugh! I read articles and watch shows about nutrition and vitamins (and metabolism, Snoozie) and walk away feeling the same way. "Wow, that was important! Now what am I supposed to actually do about it?" I think we've talked before about being rich like Oprah... I need someone to just cook for me, tell me what supplements to take and what exercises to do when and how much! Wouldn't that be grand! Hahaha!

I take a probiotic to promote a healthy gut, regularity and boost my immune system. Is it doing all that? Who knows. I seem to be pretty regular. I'm rarely sick (knock on wood). So, I continue to take it. I've also started taking Turmeric in a pill form. It's supposed to help with inflammation. My knee doctor recommended it. I'm not sure how long you have to take it before you feel any results. I have constant pain in my neck that feels like tight muscles. When I was on prescription anti-inflammatories after my knee surgery my neck pain was gone. When I went off the medication my neck pain came back. So I'm trying an herbal solution. I'd go for weekly massages if I could afford it....again with the Oprah fantasy! Ha!

Snoozie - luckily the only pills I take everyday are vitamins and supplements....so far. Any time I go to a doctor they appear shocked that I'm not on some form of daily medication.

Thanks for the info on the probiotics Suzy... i may talk to my doc next week about em again.. altho at this point the list of things to talk about is growing like my gut LOL..

and YES on the oprah rich - i would KILL yes i mean that quite literally lol.. to just have someone cook me what i'm supposed to eat - i promise i will eat it all except liver! and put me thru whatever paces i need... where do we sign up for that?? i mean oprah is now plugging WW ... so if she can't do it even with hiring people to do her cooking and workouts maybe we're better off on our own LOL.

its so weird you mention the neck thing... while i was taking the back stuff which was muscle relaxnats and anti inflams i didn't have much neck pain .. but today its making BIG cracks which it never does and back to the big ows.. i watched a video a while back on yoga for neck/shoulder pain.. i may look tht sucker up... i find sometimes putting a heating thing on y neck works too.... i have a sac magique (like a long roll with beans or something in it) you can heat in the micro - i should probably go back to that for a bit..

i AM down to my weight im listed at here again tho.. it isn't any loss as such, but at least i don't have to change the damn ticker again.. i will just keep going as planned.

i took a bit of a look at that metabolic diet - just a scan ( i laughed with you and vail cause i'm the same.. i read something and think oh wow ... then it's gone lol.... and while it was only a glance, i DO believe the basic premise that some foods can be inflammatory for people... but finding out what is and isn't would be a huge undertaking ... and not one i'm willing to do right now lol.. BUT.. just out of interest, i copied her list of foods that are "typically" reactive for people ... keeping in mind everyone is completely different... her premise is to start with nothing and add in stuff, seeing how you feel but that ain't gonna happen for me LOL.. however... i'll post the list just out of interest.. and i'd be interested to hear if anyone has discovered any sensitivies themselves with stuff? My sister just told me she can't eat yogurt anymore - found it set her off now.... who knew?? anyhoo will post the list just as a "hmmm" moment!!

by the way.. VAIL?? i found it interesting you said you eat unpastuerized cheese now.. i notice on the list below that goats cheese is one of the least reactive (which is GOOD) on the list - i think goats cheese is unpasteurized isn't it?? interesting...

The immune system’s response to an inflammatory diet diverts the body’s energy from healing and repair and allows whatever is latent in our genetic makeup to “kick up” whatever is chronic (arthritis, migraines, depression) to worsen. Chronic inflammation exacerbates and hastens the aging process because it floods tissues with free radicals and promotes the destruction of normal cells.

Chronic low grade inflammation contributes to the aging process and research shows that is a major contributor to the aging of the cardiovascular and nervous system. Inflammation is now recognized as one of the key risk factors for heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol and stroke and cognitive and neurological disorders. Below is a list, based on my research, of many foods eaten on a daily basis and their potential of reactivity:

    Reactive foods
90- 95% Reactive  Farm raised fish  Deli meats  Most sushi – most sushi restaurants will use farm raised fish unless eating in expensive restaurants

85% Reactive  Shrimp, most shellfish  Turkey  Tomato sauce  Eggplant  Oatmeal  Greek yoghurt  Beans- especially black beans and cannellini  Cauliflower  Cabbage  Whole eggs  Non-organic spinach- very high pesticide residue  Cottage cheese  Grapefruit- not recommended bcs of impairing liver function  Tofu  Salmon  Oranges

70% Reactive  Yogurt  Green beans  Asparagus  Bok Choy  Tomatoes, green peppers, eggplant, potatoes (purple potatoes are less reactive)  Pork

60% Reactive  Red peppers (green peppers are unripe peppers)  Mushrooms  Tuna, Swordfish, Cod  Edamame  Acid fruits (pineapples etc)

50% Reactive  Veal  Milk  Tempeh  White fish with exception of tuna, swordfish and cod  Couscous  Rice (except for brown or basmati lowers reactive rate to 10%)  Almond milk  Quinoa

30% Reactive  Egg whites  Nut butters made with roasted nuts  Sesame seeds/tahini  Lentils, peas  Organic spinach - Will be MUCH higher if you have thyroid issues and should not be eaten raw  Bananas

20% Reactive  Lactose-free milk  Scallops  Steak  Lamb- if you have steak sensitivity you will have lamb sensitivity  Roasted nuts- if you have chronic illness, auto-immune disease, or depression this bumps up to 75%  Snow peas

10% Reactive  Pit fruits- will include avocados  Apples  Garlic  Cow’s cheese  Chickpeas  Raw onions  Artichoke  Shiitakis (may be higher with yeast infections)  Chard- will be MUCH higher if you have thyroid issues- sensitivity to oxalic acid  Spinach-organic  Strawberrie

s 5% or less reactive  Goat or sheep’s cheese (higher if African American or Asian)  Pears  Berries (except strawberries)  Bread  Broccoli  Carrots  Kale  Zucchini, winter squash  Beets  Mixed greens, Collards  Arugula- will be MUCH higher if you have thyroid issues  Radicchio

Thanks so much Snooozie, T2, SuzyQ and Vail for your kind thoughts and support about my mother. I'm doing my best to just live in the present moment and persevere.

Interesting conversations about supplements, inflammation, cortisol etc. much of this was discussed when I was at Canyon Ranch. I'll have to review the literature I brought back with me. I do know the nutritionist highly recommended I take a high quality fish oil for inflammation and a probiotic for my gut. My Doc also recommended Magnesium for muscle cramps, so I take that too. Between those three things I have no regularity issues lol.

Snooozie, I learned the hard way about antibiotics with my son. He was on a lot of antibiotics as an infant and toddler from ear infections, and no one cautioned us about the fact that antibiotics kill both the positive and negative biotics in your gut. He developed a potentially fatal condition called clostridium difficile toxin from it , and once you get that it will return anytime you take an antibiotic for the rest of your life. There are only two drugs that can keep you from dying from it , so he can't take antibiotics unless it is life threatening and then has to take Flagyll along with it to control the CDiff, but if he ever develops an allergy to Flagyll, like he has to many drugs, he can never take an antibiotic again. So I can not stress how important it is to take probiotics , not only while you take antibiotics , but for at least two weeks after you finish the antibiotics. And I buy them for my son to take every day to help keep his positive flora up. I also take one daily. I use a brand called Udos which someone recommended to me at Canyon Ranch. I do know whatever brand you select , it should be the kind that needs to be refrigerated because it's got live organisms.

T2- I'll be interested to see if the alpha lipoid acid helps you. I know I tried a lot of things others suggested such as cinnamon and cactus stuff, but they didn't make a difference for me. The alpha lipoid acid sure does though, so I'm interested to see if it helps you , too. I used to take the chromium when I struggled with low blood sugar , which was from teens all the way to late 50's when all of a sudden it changed to high blood sugar. Anyway, the chromium was a lifesaver for low blood sugar, so I think I'll start taking it again to see if it helps with overall blood sugar as well as sweet cravings. I also used licorice root to help regulate my low blood sugar- wonder if that helps high blood sugar , too? I'll have to look that up.

Me, too, Susan, I always had low blood sugar drops growing up... if I didn't get something to eat, and it couldn't be anything sweet for breakfast. Makes me wonder if that is a precursor to the Big D. my whole family had that issue , and we are all Diabetic. We never ate too many sweets growing up though....somehow that changed after getting married... I can tell the Alpa pill really gives me energy. I made the mistake of taking one at night and was awake most of the night!!

Great info on the reactive chart, Snoozie, thanks!

I fell the same way about probiotics...too many to choose from and they are so expensive that I want one that is reliable and works!

did you see today in the MFP blog that "PREbiotics" are now the big thing?? they go hand in hand with PRObiotics apparently.... sigh... honestly between all the different diets and theories and eat this don't eat that no wait its ok no wait its not... is it any wonder we're all confused and struggling and trying anything and everything...

don't get me wrong we've come such a long way in discovering some really good things like supplements and oils and things.. but holy cow.... I've decided its NOT my fault i'm confused LOL!!

I agree with you completely Snoozie about all the things you read and hear about what one should and shouldn't eat. It gets truly crazy. I think we each have to chose for ourselves what our priorities and individual choices are. I just try to stick to the basics like low carbs, high protein, organic foods, non processed meat, etc. in addition to a good food based vitamin and a few other supplements. That is enough for me! And it was a radical change anyway from my previous eating habits.

T2- I was told at Canyon Ranch it is unusual to have hypoglycemia as a child, but since I did and now battle high blood sugar that it shows I have always had a sugar sensitivity. I also have read that if you have reactive hypoglycemia you are at risk for developing diabetes and that it can run in families. As far as probiotics, UDOs is the bran which was recommended to me. I elaborated about the value of probiotics in my previous post to Snooozie if you are interested. Mostly it's important to take them during and after antibiotics, but I used to have a lot of intestinal distress so I take them daily and it helps me. As far as the alpha lipoid acid, it gave me vertigo issues for several weeks ( which did go away) but never made me wired and unable to sleep. Isn't it funny how each of us react differently to things? But I only take 100 MG because of the vertigo issue. Besides, 100 MG worked, so I guess I don't need a larger dose than that. I sure hope it works for you , too!

I appreciate hearing and learning about everything susan so i'm very glad yu shared your probiotic info - mucho thanks!

so this logging.... holy cow. my breakfast of a bowl of oatmeal and a couple of coffees totals up to almost 500 calories. Yesterday I thought I ate well overall... and yet by end of the day i totalled over 2000 cals.... and I just realized I forgot to add the glass of wine I had with dinner.... well.... now i know why the logging worked for me when i first came here... in my case just logging for even a few days its starting to finally become pretty obvious WHY I gained back those 25 lbs!!

Did I know I was eating more than I should.. yeah..
Did I realize HOW much more? honestly... not to the extent that I am!!
Major wake up call. But a good one for sure

So this month goals will be to set a realistic calorie goal - I am going to stay on the higher end around 1600 and gradually watch to see if I lose any weight and lower it as needed to see where my happy place is.. and keep logging!!

That's kind of funny, Snoozie - I think it's SO easy to eat too much. Because of course 2000 calories isn't loads and loads of food - it's below the requirements for an average woman, and so it definitely doesn't LOOK like overeating!

Oats are very easy to go over on - when I had them for breakfast, I used to weigh them every now and then just to keep on track. A portion was 20-25g. It looks really small. I would add 5g or so of seeds.

At least the wakeup call is good, because you know what to do now! I may try logging a couple of days too - I do that every now and then just to see where I am, but I haven't done it since changing to one meal a day (turns out that it's actually a thing - OMAD).

I absolutely love oatmeal in the mornings but it's so many calories! Every once in awhile I'll splurge and then have some progresso light soup for dinner. I am having a problem with my breakfast not filling me up though. I eat Kashi with Almond milk every morning and then I'm hungry again in an hour. The Kashi is really high in protein but it doesn't seem to matter. Someone suggested that I need to eat some good fat like avocado toast or bulletproof coffee (which sounds really disgusting to me).

you're so right Vail - it really didn't seem like that much food.... but it was an eye opener to find out it was and probably a bit more! it really didn't seem like I ate that much during the day.. but I will admit I did NOT only eat when I was hungry.... I grazed a lot.... but its all good; seeing is believing ) I am running between 1600-1700 today...but i'm def not going back to 1200ish until I see how low I have to go to start losing.. baby steps!

Suzy.. I TOTLLY agree with yu on the cereal - I love kashi, and have been eating the dreaded all bran of course lately, but absolutely within an hour I am STARVING.. I always have to bring a protein snack for shortly thereafter, if i'm working especially, like cheese or tuna on some crackers) cause im totally starving. I usually do an omellete or something with eggs.. like an egg/ham/veg scramble if I need sustenance for longer periods... can u do eggs every other day or at all? on cereal mornings tho maybe have a snackage of some turkey roll ups (a slice of turkey wrapped around some sticks of peppers or cucumbers or something) handy for that hour after brekkie to keep you going??

I LOVE my coffee.. I would never live without it and yes I always have real cream in it.. and the 18% stuff. yup... there is not a chance in hell I could ever do that bulletproof with the butter in the coffee?? I love butter.. I love coffee.. but together? I gag just thinking about it..

but I figure 18% cream is just a few steps BELOW butter in the churning process lol.. so that's my version of BP!!

HMM what about some of the nut butters on toast?? I know they make a lot of almond and cashew type butters.. wouldn't they be high in protein as they are nut based?? perhaps add that in with the cereal?

I found out, when I was doing Whole30 last year, that I have a sensitivity to eggs so I couldn't do that every morning. My other issue with the eggs is that I do not want to get up and cook! Hahaha! I've been thinking of trying the egg, veg, cheese "muffin" cups that you can make ahead and just warm up. I made veggie frittatas for breakfast on Whole30 and I loved that! I could make it ahead and just warm it up. Maybe I could do that for every other day. Again, it's a lot more calories than my Kashi. I just love the simplicity of pouring some cereal in a bowl and adding milk. I'll have to come up with something just as simple. Thanks for the suggestions!

lol I completely understand - its exactly the reason I do oatmeal occasionally - 1 minute in the nuker and its ready!! totally get it.. there are days toast is too much work for me!! :)

I've made the veggie/cheese/egg white muffin cup thing before, cept I made it in a pie plate instead and then cut into slices and froze them... if I recall it only took about a minute in the micro ... but that doesn't help the sensitivity to egg problem..

Milove- I just remembered - have you ever tried incorporating flax seed into your daily diet to help with regularity? For me, I notice my two fish oil tablets with a pro biotic make a difference, but my sister and others I know swear by flax seed.
