@sarahthes Hooray for journaling! And for rest days, which are just as important for reaching those goals as the other days.

@7lenny7 I showed your inspiration page to my husband and he said, "Oh, I could do that, easy - if m stands for 'meters.'" ;)

I need to stop buying nuts. I can't moderate them on run days, I eat them all.

We stopped at a non-BBQ restaurant after our latest run and I very responsibly ordered blackened catfish instead of fried. And... a bunch of sweet potato fries. Which turned out to be coated in cinnamon and sugar! So I made my husband eat half of them, thinking that many carbs, plus cornbread, plus hush puppies, would probably kill me dead. Even the turnip greens at this place tasted like they had added sugar in them. I was expecting to test and find my glucose level over 140. But when I did test, it was... 75. Which is super low, anything below 70 is officially TOO low. It seems like trail running in the cold makes my system just really use carbs efficiently for several hours after running, this is not the first time I've been surprised.

I read an article recently about brown fat activation due to exercise in the cold (doesn't have to be very cold, just moderately chilly) improving glucose metabolism in diabetics and wonder if that is what's happening with me.

I am cross posting from the Cathartic thread... So if you read already you can ignore this...
I am out from running again 😢
Saw the Sports Ortho today and basically he said I am not healed. He also doesn't think it is an actual stress fracture though, but a stress reaction, essentially a severe bruising that happens over and over and can lead to a stress fracture. No running for 6 weeks and he wants me to see a foot/running PT who will analyze my gait and figure out ultimately what is causing the issue. The PT will also make the correct orthotics based on his analysis. What I have are not bad or wrong just not enough correction. His recommendation is for water running, cycling isn't going to keep me in running condition no matter how long/hard I go at it. So now to find a place where I can do water running...

I wished I had followed my gut instinct to see him in the 1st place rather than the podiatrist...

So I have been thinking about this ^^^ and have decided to relook at my goals; at my calories and eating habits; at my workouts and what I want out of them; at additional workouts to get me to my goals... Goal setting 2019 v2.0...
@sarahthes - maybe I will add journaling to my list too. (BTW your handwriting is lovely!)

@rheddmobile - whatever it is, is working well!

Sometimes my writing is as bad as anyone's, and sometimes not. It's as fickle as my moods.
    ----
Food still on point as far as calories go. I think I'm retaining a bit of water as the scale hasn't budged except up for a few days and when you're as heavy as me usually it wobbles a lot in a 2 lb range even when maintaining.

We ran out of oranges today. I'm sad, and will brave Costco on the way home tonight. Also I need protein shakes as I haven't been hitting my protein targets.

Posting the race route on my fridge helped. Two or three times I opened the fridge, only to shut it again after seeing it.

Hmm... maybe I should post a pic of Shalene Flanagan or the diminutive Desi Linden on my fridge... that girls got some legs! Idk. It might just as well cause depression and I’d buy a case of Ben and Jerry’s.

    _______________________________________________________________________

I noticed today that I couldn’t remember the name of the town I was born in. Usually it’s not that I’m that dumb, it a symptom of a migraine. I forget names. Names of long time coworkers, name of my kids, names of medicines, certain words sound like they should mean something and I have no idea... it usually rather fun, because I ask dh a ton of questions and never understand everything he tells me. He thinks I’m having a stroke. Haha! Naw, just normal aphasia.

So of course I run through what the heck I ate in the last 24hours.... nope, nothing. As I’m on my way to meet dh for pho. Ya... dum dum. MSG is a migraine trigger. I didn’t figure it out until after lunch, so poo.

I thought I was on to a quick healthier lunch. No more pho. *sigh*

Hi everyone! I've been skipping this thread lately (nothing you all did, just not enough time).

I am also trying to journal more consistently. I do a grateful for and something positive about my run. But my writing isn't that good.

Someone mentioned Honeycrisps. I love them! Only apples I will eat down here. The rest are usually awful (esp golden delicious which I used to love - I can' even bring myself to buy they look so bad).

With the amount of junk on my fridge I think I would lose any inspirational pictures under the mass of coupons and 3-year-old Christmas photo cards, ha.

Food okay again. Within 100 calories of goal. Not enough vegetables again. Strawberries are vegetables right?

Probably go to Tim Hortons for breakfast tomorrow after the kids swim, but I can get berry oatmeal which has reasonable calories. Plus I'm scheduled for 6km tomorrow, so I can probably also have a hash brown. When I was low carb I think Tim Hortons was what I missed most. We'd go there and all I could eat was coffee :(.

Years ago we used to get Tim Hortons every Saturday morning even the first time I lost weight. It didn't particularly hinder my loss. I think I'd have reached goal the first time I tried to get to a healthy weight (I never yo-yoed) if I hadn't gotten pregnant at the halfway point.

@sarahthes “Vegetable” is a culinary term. So it’s just a made up term for “unsweet fruit”. Eat all of them strawberries! Berries don’t have that many calories any way and are a nutrient dense food right?

@sarahthes I can relate. When are kids are in sports or trap shooting and the take team photos, the only thing we order are the magnets. And they all go on the fridge. With three kids, all very active, our fridge is half full of these sports magnets.

Today has been a good day. Not only did I log everything for the first time in months, I hit my calorie budget.

I can easily eat the Costco 2 pounds of strawberries in one sitting. I have to force myself to be good.

@Elise4270 is that computer written notes?!? My handwriting on a tablet is AWFUL

@Elise4270 - you just need to find a place that will fix (or has as a standard) Pho with no MSG. It is possible to get it that way!

We went to Costco and I bought chocolate chip cookie babies! I shouldn't have bought them but I really wanted a treat and they are so good... I guess I am finding solace in cookie babies. I was well within calories and my macros were still ok.

Yes it’s on notes... but I can’t see that my writing is any worse on it . My writing has always been bad. But just Incase it is the notes making it even worse, here’s an excerpt from my running journal. I opted to get the good notes because it will change it to typed text, which turned out be a lot of work. It hardly recognizes my words. I may have to go back to paper and pencil. I guess it’s just one thing about me I just need to embrace.

    e86d53x6x6tq.jpg

I think. I have to have strawberries now. We usually do frozen fruit, fresh can be hit or miss. But I can’t see snacking on frozen when it’s so cold out. Summer time it is great.

I gave in and weighed myself today.... well. I think I’m down a pound from the runaway I had before we left for vacation. I’m 7 pounds from racing weight. Honestly, until I can run a good half I don’t thing it’d matter if I were at RW. So, I think I’m going to ease in to some lifting and shoot for a 3 pound loss. Up side I see physique changes so perhaps it’s not all bad.

Am I the only one that sucks in on the scale. It’s like a superstition. “C’mon c’mon c’mon”, roulette.

Todays foods? What would your ideal meals and snacks look like today if there were no limitation in budget, preparation, or selection. If you could essentially genie your food today.

Did someone say strawberries?!?!?! I love strawberries!! but mostly only buy from the local growers. There is a stand on the way to the dog beach that has, hands down the.best.strawberries.anywhere and they are organic! We always buy a half flat and a basket or two is usually eaten before we even get home. DH doesn't eat them except on ice cream if I cut them up for him so most of them are mine, mine mine!!! I am already looking forward to when they reopen in February.

Ha @elise4270 - not only do a suck in but I also stand up super straight. Not sure why or what help I think it is going to provide. Maybe holdover from when I was a kid and they would ensure your height too??

One of my goals (2019 v2.0) is to build more muscle in these 6 wks off running. I am eating well other than the damn cookie babies...should never have bought them, they are evil! I am also bumping down my calories again to avoid any more weight gain during this down period.

My handwriting is kind of like @RunsOnEspresso. I tend to print more than write and if I focus I can be very even an neat but most of the time not so much. My dad did drafting and his printing was absolutely perfect and I always wanted mine to look like his but it is really really hard and time consuming. I think we are all so used to computers and typing we just don't hand write things enough be really skillful at it anymore.

We're heading to the steak and whiskey place tonight for late night happy hour. Half price steak and whiskey... No sense logging any more today.

    Don't wait up for me.

@RunsOnEspresso - they are little mini chocolate chip cookies made with the same ingredients we would follow in our own kitchen. Crunchy little gems of deliciousness!

I need to go “run” 7 miles today. I dun wanna. It’s cold. 40. Dh is putting brownies on, *sigh* I still have a bit of a headache and am sure any amount of chocolate is a bad choice. I wonder if I can talk myself in to the 7 miles to run away from the brownies. But likely will only come back thinking, “I ran 7 miles. I can have a brownie or 4”.

I think he’s setting me up here. The trail is muddy too.... ugh. Okay, I’m going. Y’all are such ball busters. 😏

Get your run done, @Elise4270 , I promise you won't regret it!

In spite of my late night gluttony, the scale was down a tick this morning, and in spite of an early morning headache I still managed to get out for my run.

That run earned me 800 more calories for the day!

    Thanks @7lenny7 ! I didn’t regret it. I ate your 800 calorie surplus though. 🥺

Yesterday I was on track until I a) skipped my run and b) ordered in for dinner. I have no idea how to log the falafel wrap I had. It was amazing, though. I think I was probably around maintenance for the day, maybe slightly over. Weight was up a tad today but that makes sense - salt.

I got my run in today. Garmin gave me 500 calories for the run and then took away 400 for sitting on my butt the rest of the day. Not sure what supper will be. I kind of want to order from the vegan take out place we discovered last weekend.

Breakfast was yogurt, bran cereal and a pear. I also meant to have a protein shake so I put one in the freezer because they're vile at room temp... and I forgot to take it out. Hopefully it doesn't explode. I can't imagine they taste good afternoon having been frozen though. May toss it. May experiment.

Lunch is beans & rice plus veggies, salsa and cheese.

Dinner is who knows? Maybe we will try the vegetarian "meatballs" I bought the other day. With pasta?

@7lenny7 - what app is that and how does it get the data? Congrats on the trend!!

@shanaber The app is from Sharper Image and it goes along with the bluetooth scale my wife gave me for Christmas. I wasn't too excited about it at first because really, who needs a bluetooth scale, but it turns out I like it quite a bit. I open the app, step on the scale, and bam...all the date is sent to my phone.

You can set up to 10 profiles with age, gender and height. I created two. One for my daily morning weigh in, and one for miscellaneous weigh-ins, such as before and after a long run to see how much weight I lose. In the screen above, I can tap any of the values on the bottom legend to see those trends. I'm not sure how accurate it all is, but I'm satisfied the weight portion is accurate. I can step on it several times and I always see the same number. I had a Costco scale one time and the weight on it would swing +/- five pounds!! There are electrodes on the scale, and so I guess it's plausible all of the other values are reasonably correct. I just wish there was an easy way to merge this data with all the data I have in Garmin.

The app is not required to use the scale, but it is if you want to get the other data, and of course to automate the data collection. I do recall, though, that the scale initially measured in kg and the app was needed to change to pounds.

It was cheaper at Target but it's not longer in stock there.
