Runners that need some nutritional accountability

Too much snacking last night (crackers). No deficit. Pretty sure I was around maintenance.
I think I've been setting my calorie targets too low and setting myself up for failure. I changed my settings to Active and deficit to 1000 calories a day. Garmin seems to be playing nice so far and only adding calories if I go above and beyond active. If I stick to that limit it works out close to sedentary maintenance on days I do less.
I will experiment for the next month. Eating more and losing more slowly is better than a restrict-binge cycle.1 -
I have to quit buying clearance holiday candy. Tonight I'm tossing a bunch of it out. I successfully defeated the cereal buying, I can do this too.2

I'm hungry and dh is lolly-gagging on fb... make him feed me. Ive been fairly good this trip. No junk other than the single size of sour cream and onion ripple chips, which were only after an ocean swim and i was freezing and something about swimming that makes you incredibly hungry.
I have had fried fish twice and I'm so close ordering to a pizza or chocolate cake... Maybe both if dh doesn't get a move on.
ETA. I think i am in high calorie food withdraw. Its finally catching up to me.0 -
I was doing good until dw suggested we go to the new steak and whiskey restaurant in town. After 9pm they have half price steak and half price whiskey. I had a beautiful 16 oz New York strip (rare, thank you) and three whiskeys. I'm very content right now.4

@shanaber we leave Friday morning.
@7lenny7 I. Am. So. Absolutely. Jealous.
I had half of a pizza. Hawaiian, of course. And a lightly sweet scoop of coconut ice cream. I realized that i was probably just thirsty too. So i have a guava gingerblossom Hawaiian tea.
Just sitting here waiting on the laundry to dry... Yay.1 -
@elise4270 We always eat fairly healthy in Hawaii. And lots of fish. Have you had shave ice yet? *drools*
I decided today was a good day to start logging food again.1 -
The holidays jumped the scale about 15lbs for me. The first 5lbs dropped as soon as I got back into my food routine, but I'm now a solid 15lbs from "ultimate goal weight." This is my first full week back at really working at it, and running less is actually helping with the rungries and I've stayed on target each day except for one which was a family gathering and in the grand scheme of things not all that damaging.
I've also added quite a bit of weight/resistance work, which I'm sure is adding to slower loss/water retention, so I'll just stand by for a whoosh I hope is coming.
I typically would try and save as many calories for dinner as possible, but I'm finding keeping breakfast/lunch/dinner pretty even is working well for me right now and I have one snack in the afternoon. Keeping things smooth and even across the board seems to keep me from swinging into being super hungry and then wanting to overeat/keep eating.
No running today, but I did get up and do a "BodyStep" workout. I'm pretty uncoordinated, so I was a hot mess, but Garmin says I burned 300 calories doing it, so I'll take that.1 -
My scale number yesterday was back up almost to the weight I was on Dec 30 (when I started logging with purpose) but this morning it was back down to only 0.4 lbs above last week's low - and TOM started today. So some of that is likely water.
I just want my size 14 clothes to fit again. And ultimately I want to be able to run fast, which will be easier if I'm not obese. So that motivation is definitely there right now.
I have been having pelvic pain on my left side off and on for a couple of months now (since the weight increase started) so yesterday I booked a doctor appointment for next week. I have to admit it's been adding to my stress levels (and stress eating) because of Dr. Google. Anyway, booking the appointment actually took some stress off.1 -

Not yet. Today is a farmers market trip and to Mauna Kea hiking, stargazing and such. We met/ran with a woman that owns a coffee farm in Kona. So we hafe to support her business, going to bring back some (hopefully a lot) of their coffee. How am i going to ever drink k-cup Starbucks again after Kona every morning? Aloha.

It's hard. We took home over 10 pounds of Kona on our last trip.1 -
@Elise4270
If you have time I highly suggest Greenwell Farms. Its my fav coffee. Although all the Kona places are good I'm drawn to Greenwell.1 -
If I lift enough weights, can I call this a bulk?
Seriously though looking at my trend line I think I gained about a pound of real weight over the holidays. I'm almost done with the fancy cheese, chocolates, and so forth, so here's hoping it gradually returns to normal.2 -
@elise4270 - my husband loves Kona coffee unfortunately our budget doesn't! He has purchased K-Cup Kona online as well as some whole beans and I have gotten it for him for his birthday. Maybe Eric can get you some for yours?
I did buy enough coffee in Costa Rica that I had to have it shipped home! We gave some away as gifts and slowly made our way through all of it over the course of a year.3 -
Ugh, trying to be good and track food but it's not syncing across app and web. WAAAAAAAH lol1

I have tonight's dinner in sticky notes so I can add tomorrow when MFP is hopefully fixed. Do calories count if MFP is down?
I made pulled pork in the IP tonight and it turned out pretty good. I usually make it in the slow cooker and it was pretty comparable.
Hubby is travelling, so I picked up some regular buns for boy kid and I to make bbq sandwiches and it was so good. It's rare that we have gluten bread around, so it's a real treat (hubby is gluten free). There's a nice amount for leftovers at lunch tomorrow, so it's nice to look forward to.1 -
My guilty coffee pleasure is Bustelo. It's dirt cheap and I love it! I can get 10 oz bags at Aldi for under $3. Every time I decide to try "better" coffee, whole bean or not I always go back to Bustelo. And I used to be such a coffee snob.0

Nope. I'm scared of cheap coffee. Dh bought some once, port -something.. tasted like it was something thrown out of the port hole. (Butt joke there). It was horrible. Meeting our Kona coffee connection tomorrow at 930 in the park for the hook up. Dope.
Having a burger for dinner. I'm backsliding, slightly. And a side salad, not fries/chips1 -
We get our coffee delivered through an Amazon subscription. Hubby is super picky about what he likes. I'm less picky, but do love a good dark roast. It's Vail Mountan Nordic Blend (whole bean). Hubby grinds it for us. I'm too lazy for that.2

Today is one of those days that I'm so excited for lunch because my leftovers are SO AWESOME.2
-
Instant Pot mac & cheese tonight. Holy calorie bomb but it was tasty - and I'm still under goal for the day.3
-
Local 8oz steak special 9.99$ we figured “what have we got to lose?” Yum! Tender and seems to have been marinated. Score. Had local tamales, guacamole, fresh coconut water from the coconut and fresh made banana walnut chocolate chip local banana bread too.
Back home tomorrow.... booo. I wanna make this suisan soup stuff when we get “home” (I think this is my natural home).1 -
MFP seemed like the syncing problems are fixed, but on closer inspection it's double-syncing - each run is counting twice. Yay! 2100 exercise calories. Pig out party at my house!
Seriously though, probably a good idea to check your syncing and make sure it's as expected before you eat back all your calories today.1 -
I never liked eating back calories. I just have a set amount and eat that every day.1
-
The only syncing issues I noticed were between MFP and Garmin. I don't think I'm having problems.
I've been eating what Garmin gives me the past few days. It's funny because Garmin gave me about 200 calories for my run and then took away 100 because other than that I haven't been active today.2 -
We went out to a new BBQ place after running - mediocre BBQ but interesting people watching - and I just have to share this story with someone.
Our waitress was talking to friends about her little grandson, who is a notoriously picky eater and claims to be grossed out by a large variety of foods he considers "weird." But for some reason he really loves crawfish. Recently, after a large dinner of sucking heads, etc. the little boy suddenly announced to the table, "This is my FAVORITE part of the chicken!"
It turns out he had somehow gotten the idea that crawfish come from chickens. And his grandma says that they are afraid to tell him now in case he stops liking them!
I'm just really perplexed thinking of what he imagines a chicken's anatomy to be like...3 -
Too funny,@rheddmobile! Once my kids realized chicken was the same thing as the animal, they got picky and we ate more steak on a stick, which I told them they were dinosaur tails... hahaha!0
-
@fitoverfortymom - I have a coffee maker with a grinder (burr) integrated so we just have to turn it on or set the timer and it will grind and brew a pot or cup of coffee. I absolutely love it and will never make coffee from pre-ground again.
@rheddmobile - it would be interesting to ask the little bot to draw a chicken...My daughter was especially sensitive to smells when she was little and would only eat what smelled 'right' to her. Tuna was bad, chicken was maybe ok but the one that got me was - cooked broccoli was good! I love cooked broccoli but it smells terrible, apparently not to my daughter though.
I am having lots of MFP website issues but generally ignore the exercise calories. Like @RunsOnEspresso I eat to a set amount of calories and don't 'eat back' my workout calories.1 -
@sarahthes I haven't paid a lot of attention to my garmin calories (mostly because I haven't been logging) but now I want to watch them more!
I also heard clearing your cache can help with the MFP issues. I did it yesterday (on one computer) and it seems to at least be syncing between app and computer now.0
