Decent food week here. Made a passable white chicken chili in the instant pot. Tomorrow I am going on a group trail run. Could be up to 9 miles, although considering the weather, I doubt it will be that long.

Got my grocery shopping in tonight and meal planning done. Just gotta do some prep tomorrow afternoon. Trying some Flat Out wraps with cream cheese, honey smoked salmon, and arugula for lunches + an orange. Breakfasts are almost always cottage cheese, berries, and protein pancakes. Snacks are Greek yogurt and 100 calorie Kind bars.

Long *kitten* day. 14 hours of travel/airport time. Yuck. At LAX now.... Waiting.

Day started out good. More baked fish, pineapple slaw, grilled vegfies in a garlic butter sauce. Now too much pizza... Ugh.

Steady scales here, which is not what I want, but better than going up. I still don't count calories in the evening, when I need it most.

@fitoverfortymom that chili sounds good! I made some white pheasant chili in the IP a few weeks ago which was pretty bad, but I powered through and ate it anyway. I found a new recipe to try next time.

This weekend, if I get my act together, I'm going to make some venison barley soup in the IP. We have so much wild game in the freezer and I need to get through it. My brother felt bad for me since I didn't get out deer hunting this year because of my foot, so he brought up 30 pounds of his venison for me. It will be interesting to see if his Georgia venison tastes different than our Minnesota venison.

    What did you eat today?

I’ve had nothing... travel and slept, I feel out of it. Dh went to Walmart while I napped and only bought an iPad to replace his kindle that died on the trip. Think a simple soup would be good, but I’m so tired I don’t know if food is a good choice. I’ll have to forage around and see what might be in there. Update-seems to be nothing but frozen ham and beans I made before we left. Guess that’ll do.

I think I’d like to take my “do better” and try to refocus on not eat packaged anything, well prepared packaged foods. I was under the impression that most of the food we ate in Hawaii was fresh/real food. When we stoped in LAX we had a pizza. It’s all open and you see them open packages of cheese, sauces, veggies ect. It was a bit of an eye-opener as to how much prepared foods I eat here. So, I’m gong to try to let that momentum carry me and try to clean up my diet some. Maybe give up taco casa all together.

Going to Kona also made me want to train for the iron-man. That’s something I’ll probably never do, but what if I want to go to Kona and do a bike ride? I better get in shape if I want that to be a possibility. Swimming there was so freaking easy. So, I better keep swimming so it will continue to be easy, (yay body fat  ). I have chicken legs, so I better get to the gym on a regular basis to help me be a stronger cyclist.

My first visit to the scale shows I gained nothing and lost nothing, I’m hopeful that I’ll see a pound drop in a few days after traveling effects settle down. On average we walked 6.5 miles a day, four of those six days were 8+ miles. My daily average is a pathetic 3 miles a day and that’s work walking, not exercise. So I need to try to get this to a more reasonable goal and move away from so much couch time, at least until I’m injured again and am forced to spend all evening on the couch.

I didn’t miss y’all, but I sure wished you were there with me.

I made a big pot of vegetable beef barley soup in the instant pot. I used venison instead of beef and I used farro instead of barley. I also threw in a bunch of kale. It turned out pretty good but needed more flavor. I'll definitely make this again.

I went for the full 9 miles today! Went to lunch afterwards with the ladies I ran with. Probably 1100 calories I estimated, but didn't go crazy. Had planned a big long run dinner of ribs and cornbread, so have to scale portions back to stay under goal, but overall confident I didn't totally blow it.

We just have a regular 12-cup coffee maker we got at Kohls. I could not convince the DH that we needed the Ninja system when our last coffee pot broke.

@elise4270 - for what it's worth we got a Breville with a built in grinder. It was pretty pricey but it makes great coffee and I love having the capability to fresh grind or make from reground if we want. DH loves that it makes 12 cups and I love that I can make a single cup as well. I am not sure it is worth what we paid for it but we'll see how long it lasts. I am hoping for several years.

I ran my longest run in several months today (6 miles!!) and I have been SO hungry all afternoon. I made a protein drink and had a banana when I got home. Then ate an entire grapefruit (1st one from our tree this year - so good!) and some lunch. Hoping I can make it until dinner just sipping on a Starbucks coffee DH got me.

My SIL is here from Dubai, they are retiring and moving back to the states. She hasn't had ham in years and asked if we could fix one. So dinner last night was ham and scalloped potatoes that we made in the IP. The ham was good but the potatoes stole the show. We substituted 1% milk for the cream in the recipe and they were just delicious!

Tonight we are having BBQ chicken and next week is all going to be leftovers!
Also I finally lost a couple of pounds! hope it keeps going that direction!

    Ahhh my post got et!

@shanaber thanks for the info! Dh is all over it! And I love scalloped potatoes! And Au gratin potatoes!

    Today’s food?

I had a banana and terra chips. Dh just put a roast and veggies in the ip. I’m still not adjusted to Oklahoma time. I’d only given into the chips because I skipped breakfast/lunch and was wiped on the run. I thought I might be running the risk of passing out having skipped pre run food with the time adjustment, or lack there of. When we went to the expo at the Dallas marathon they handed out go-go fruit. Yes, it’s designed for kids but absolutely fits the needs of runners. I scored a box of 12 tonight so I’ll be sure to hide some away so I have some pre-run foods. Yes, packaged food, :disappointed: but the ingredients are just fruit, some have a preservative which is just lemon juice. So I’m okay with that.

We do have a separate grinder. I got DH hooked on fresh ground coffee. He now goes to whole beans instead of ground every time.

ugh, I binged Saturday. I tried to eat healthy. Then I had 6 cookies. I said that was it. Put them back. An hour later I finished off the other 6. Plus I had some chips. And I don't even remember what else. I didn't log. I didn't log yesterday. I tried to eat less to somewhat make up (rest day too) but we went out for dinner and I ate an entire steak and potato plus a margarita. Back to the grind and logging today.

We have a Cuisinart 10 cup stainless steel brewer. I absolutely love it. It also has a hot water heater which we use for hot tea and hot chocolate. My son loves hot tea, so it's nice to be able to heat water quickly.

I've been on an Instant Pot kick lately, working on converting my slow cooker recipes to the IP. So far I've had a great deal of success. I've done pulled pork, pork spareribs, and tonight I'm trying a red pepper fire roasted tomato soup.

Thanks for the coffee maker information!!! I put my Kona coffee in the french press today. Yum.

I slept late. Had the day off work anticipating jet lag. I slept unt 1234 when dh came home for lunch and noticed i had phone messages. Dental clean at 1. Gah! Made it 4 minutes late, but i finally have clean teeth.

So, I'm not adjusted yet. Only coffee and a few bananas, it's 5pm. Hmm. This is going to be hard tomorrow back at work...

I have lots to do. I thought I'd get a ton of stuff done today on day off, clean house/cat boxes, run, errands. Nope. Nada. Here i sit in A&P I. One of the messages i had was that a spot opened up for me... So now as a time/interest filler i have 3 classes, 10 hours.... Hmmm... Dumbasss.

I hate all the time change/jet lag adjustments @elise4270! It typically makes me feel out of sorts for several days. Sleeping until 12:30 isn't bad - that is only 8:30am in Hawaii!

We are working our way through leftovers the rest of this week I think. My BIL arrives Wednesday afternoon from Dubai and they will go to a hotel at the beach for a few weeks so I will be back to figuring out by myself what to cook. I don't mind cooking, if someone else would just be creative and come up with a menu for the week.
We had a lunch with friends at a Uyghur Chinese Halal restaurant. It was so good and we were so stuffed afterwards that no one was really too hungry for dinner although we all had a little bit of ham and potatoes again.

No run for me today. It was already pouring when I got up and has been all day. I thought I might go to the gym this afternoon but was so tired I just took a rest day. Guess the 6 miles on Sunday took a bigger toll than I thought.

Dh is hogging the tm. I'm cross-eyed tired anyway. Had ice cream for dinner. (Burger for lunch) I forgot i had a dental appointment today (implant impressions) so i didnt make it home for lunch. So much for starting anew.

Tomorrow's going to be better. Night night.

Rested up finally i think. Why is it when your away you still havr all the things that typically pile up during the week to do? I haven't done anything yet. I did bribe dd to tidy up the house some.

    Todays foods?

I have a banana and a protein shake packed for today. I'm hoping that will suffice for lunch, but have class tonight so, .... Ya... I gotta figure that one out. I slept in, not giving myself the change to fix something, (boiled eggs, maybe?) to pack today. So... Im thinking i need to get a plan together.

Did everyone quit eating? @sarahthes ? Have i just missed her posts, or she on hiatus? I hate monopolizing the thread... Anyone? Oh everyone is too busy keeping up with the mrc thread...

DH said he weighed 183 today at the docs office fully clothed, probably a light jacket. Hes usually 165-170. Haha. Aww thats not funny. So we're definitely going to eat better, after frozen pizza tonight.

i need a copy cat. What are you eating? I think its soup time.

So i have this class, nutrition. Anyone hear of the choosemyplate.gov? Im not using it outside of class, but i loved the idea of something to help dietary education, although one could argue those in most need, aren't internet savvy or may not even have access. But it was cool. Not mfp cool though.

I was hiding for a few days but I'm here. Mostly doing okay - down almost 4 lbs since Dec 30. I'll take it.

    Food mostly sensible.

@elise4270 - I haven't heard of that one. Does it help with meal planning and making decisions on what to make for dinner? I need someone to pick out meals for me and I will cook them...

BIL arrived today and took SIL to a hotel at the beach where they will stay for a few weeks. Nice that his company provides that to help ex-pats adjust to being back in the States. I guess they also know it is unlikely they would immediately have any housing available. Now we will be eating up leftovers. She likes to have different things so we cooked lots... Chicken, ham, ribs. pork tenderloin, etc... note lots of pork - she has been living in countries where it is not allowed so that is what we had to fix. They have a kitchen too so I sent some with her for at least a couple of days until they feel like going shopping. Maybe after the rain stops.

I bought apples (Honey Crisp) and have a bazillion tangerines on my tree so those are my snacks before/after workouts. With all the rain I want to bake cookies... and make soup... so far I have done neither. We don't need cookies (I might but I am not going to) and I have no room in the fridge or freezer for soup right now.

I was down 2 lbs and hoping it is staying away. I see the ortho tomorrow to talk about my foot, running, orthotics and shoes.

This is something I saw on FB and hoping you will be able to see the video:

    Exactly how I feel Ha!

@shanaber The choose my plate is government run, so its broken now. Least the option to check out the "whats cooking", meal suggestions. Glad you're SIL got the piggie she wanted! Sounds like a feast!
ETA i looked at apples. We only had gala, and they felt bad. Guess they are out of season?

Dinner is on dh tonight. I think.

Glad you're seeing downwards movement @sarahthes and @shanaber ! I should be down, but i know I'm not eating right and just ruining whatever loss i have going on. I have some gap time this evening (hopefully) and will make a move for the Y, run and or weights. I need to remember to grab some of my gogo fruit, if dd didn't find it. Haha "gogo". Ahh ya, its disco time. Hmm may charge buds and do a 70's jam at the Y.

No breakfast plans. I ate soo much yesterday so only coffee. I'm leaning towards pho for lunch. Ive not gone there during lunch hour, they use to be slow but i think thats years behind them, just a getting up and running temporary thing. Back up lunch plan- Walmart apples, and a microwave panera soup. Or a veggie tray.

I have psychology tonight. Least this is helping me plan food better.

ETA i boiled eggs this morning! Yay! I can do this! I'm going to conquer today's food choices!

Breakfast today is yogurt with bran, oranges and coffee. Lunch will be out - I have a dr appt for a nagging weird pain that comes and goes (maybe ovarian cyst?) and will grab something in the way back. Probably Tim Hortons.

Supper? I don't usually make supper. Maybe beans and rice. And tofu. Or maybe something completely different.

Today is a running day and the weather (forecast high of -21C) is making me waffle about running and be sad so I packed both an arctic running bag and a gym bag to take to work. If I don't chicken out I'll run home from work, and if I do then I'll run on the 'mill at the gym.

I just about done with my venison farro soup. I've been eating it for lunch every day. It needed more flavor so I put Sriracha sauce in it. I've also got back into making hard boiled eggs in the IP and bring two of those to work every day, again dousing them in Sriracha or some other hot sauce.

A few days ago I made applesauce in the IP. LOVE that stuff! No added sugar, but I did add cinnamon. I leave mine really chunky.

Looking at making some white chicken chili soon, with some old ground chicken I found in the freezer, unless I can think of something else to make with it.

My weight has started coming back down again. Maybe because I'm running again? I'm trying not to eat more now that I'm running. I have 13 weeks before my big race. If I can lose a pound a week like I did when I first started losing, it would be a big help in finishing the race. I need to use that for my motivation. Who wants to carry an extra 13 pounds for 50 miles? Not me. Gotta get disciplined with this NOW.

I need to print off something from my race and stick it on the fridge.

I hear ya @7lenny7. I am up about 20 lbs from this time last year (Ugh) and I am about 2 min/km slower. If I don't lose weight and speed up a bit I run the real risk of missing cutoffs at all my races this year...

I found my motivation (I hope). I'm going to print this off an put in on the fridge and on the inside of the pantry door. It's the course and, more importantly, the elevation profile, for my race. 8700 feet of gain & loss.

@7lenny7 how long do you think you'll be in Oregon? Planning to spend any time in Portland?

The reason I ask is there's a very good chance I'll be in Olympia WA a couple of days after your 50M. I'm racing in Vancouver, BC on the 5th but planning to head out early to acclimate to the temperature, and my in-laws are in Oly.
