Jean - love it! and much congrats on another pound! I miss my egg beaters but DH refuses to go to more than one store ond that's at the "other" store.

Helene - good job at the party.

I'm doing CROM paper work today. I'm nowhere near normal typing yet but my 2-finger is picking up on this computer (Dragon is on the work computer).

Why can't I feel like this about exercise?

Maryanne--I like the Southwestern EggBeaters which the local overpriced supermarket does not carry. It also does not carry the more economical larger size.....and they wonder why people shop in the city when there.

Oh, exercise! How do I love you not!! It takes a lot of self-talking and good entertainment to go with it.

Today is a week since my loss and the scale is stubbornly stuck on the same number. Maybe that means my Wednesday loss pattern is back. Time will tell. Being stuck isn't always a bad thing though. It means I'm not gaining either. I'll have to look back over my week and see how many days I was under my calorie goal. I know I had a couple of days when I was over goal by a small amount but the under days should balance it out.
Jean, Congrats on being down another pound. I think the exercise is really paying off for you.
I went back to look at the last week. I was under goal 5 out of seven days and a few of those days I was substantially under. On the over days, it was about 75 calories per day. So I should see a pound down sometime soon.

We went to a very fun 40th anniversary party last night for a good friend and her husband. Their two sons and DILs planned and executed the party for them, which was impressive since neither family lives locally. The food was delicious and they had booked a guitarist/singer who entertained with songs from our youth. He had quite an impressive repertoire and was very good. Unfortunately, due to the heat wave we are experiencing here, no one was able to go outdoors to their lovely backyard, so it was a bit crowded and noisy, but we all took it in stride and made the best of things. I limited my alcohol intake, but was not as successful on the food. The scale was up today, but hopefully it will disappear fairly quickly. I plan to drink lots of water today to help with that.

Pam--I love "Five Guys" but haven't indulged lately. The anniversary party sounded wonderful despite the heat.

Helene--Hopefully the scale will reward you soon. I learned a long time ago that MFPs prediction of how much I would lose was never a reality. I can tell you that MFP and Fitbit differ in some way in determining how many calories are left for the day. The Fitbit not only tells the calories, it has blue for under, green for in the zone and red for over I went over 15 calories yesterday so I got red. I then spent a half hour of exercise and got it back into the zone. I just log on MFP and it syncs the info to my Fitbit.

Just had a bone scan this morning. It's one of the easier tests to have. I dropped DH at the local library to research some genealogy while I went to the hospital complex for the test. It's just routine but I'm hoping I'm in the same condition as 2 years ago (osteopenia) and not into osteoporosis. I'll get the results in a week or so. I'm hoping he's almost finished. I'd like to stop for lunch at a restaurant with an outdoor patio on Falmouth Harbor. It's such a pleasasnt sight there and DH can order a GF lobster roll.

Helene--I hope your results turn out well. I had mine done and part of y bones are osteopenia and part are osteoporosis, It was done to see if a change to an injection would be covered by insurance. I'll be staying on Fosamax. The restaurant sounds like a great choice.

I wish all medical tests were as easy as a bone scan, lol! I’m supposed to have one in a month or so to see if the Prolia injections have caused any improvement since last year's scan.

I hope you see improvement, Pam. Jean, has the Fosamax helped?

Helene--I personally don't think the Fosamax has helped as I've lost a lot of height. At least, I don't have the hump that a lot of women get when losing height. I was wanting the injedtions but the doctor thinks Fosamax is appropriate right now.DEXA

    The results
    Impression:
    1. T score of the lumbar spine (L1-L4) is -2.1 consistent with osteopenia.
    2. T score of the left femoral neck is -1.5 consistent with osteopenia.
    3. T score of the left femur (total) is -2.1 consistent with osteopenia.
    4. T score of the right femoral neck is -2.7 consistent with osteoporosis.
    5. T score of the right femur (total) is -3.4 consistent with osteoporosis.

So far, I'm the same height as I've been throughout my adult life. I'm taking that as a good sign.

I know I’ve lost at least an inch, but haven’t measured in awhile. I was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis at age 45, so I’ve been dealing with it now for 20 years. I really had to insist on getting a bone density scan that first time. My doctor basically said she’d order it to humor me as she thought I was too young to worry about it then. She had to eat a little crow when the results came back showing me in the severe osteoporotic range on all measurements. I had been reading about the disease and realized that I had literally all of the risk factors for it, so I’m glad I insisted on getting the test when I did.

Jean, did your doctor explain why he doesn’t think you should try the injections? I know you’ve been peddling your cycle thing, but is that considered weight bearing exercise? I was under the impression that cycling doesn’t help much with building bone mass, although it is helpful for cardiovascular health. Same with water aerobics.

Good morning, all. I've been up since 5am and have been having "fun" cleaning house, sorting and decluttering.

Pam--The doctor thinks the Fosamax is sufficient at this time as it is also an insurance issue based upon my results. It is defiitely a genetic thing as my mother and my grandmother both ended up with the dowager's hump as they shrunk. I guess just as long as the majority of my bones are in the osteopenia stage then I just have to roll with it.

Jean, I hope you are able to avoid the dowager's hump. I've seen people who have one and they can no longer straighten up. They look at the ground while walking. That's so sad. I hope to never end up like that.

Did Midnight get you up that early or couldn't you sleep. At least you put your time to good use.

Helene--During the Winter when I work, I normally get up around 5am so I guess the habit has just carried over. I've rarely slept until 6 or 7am. Midnight usually gets me up around 2:30 to 3am when we both go to the bathroom and I give him some treats.

5 AM is the middle of the night for me. During my working days, I started at 9 or 10 (different libraries). Of course, our days ran later than your's. Not being an early riser, those hours worked well for me. I was used to getting up around 7.

Maryanne--Cute pic! I used to have bird feeders but they weren't the squirrel proof type, plus the birds scattered the seeds that sprouted. I no longer have bird feeders.

Helene--My usual work day is report at 7:30 and leave at 4pm. Regardless of when we start, we get used to a certain schedule.

I have spent the day taking stuff out, deciding what to keep and what to donate. I have the backseat of the car full and will soon start loading the trunk. Memo to self: When getting something new, make sure at least two things go out immediately or in a donation bag immediately. You would not believe how many jackets I have.

I just got home from seeing Mamma Mia, Here We Go Again. It wasn’t quite what I expected, but it was very good and entertaining. It also had a storyline that pulled at the heartstrings a bit, so it wasn’t pure fluff as the previews had seemed. I enjoyed it but don’t expect it to be nominated for any awards.

I’ve been trying to follow the rule of getting rid of at least one clothing item whenever I buy something new for awhile. My closet is still much too full, but I’m gradually making a bit of progress. I have way too many coats, but I have a very difficult time getting rid of those. I’ve just about gotten rid of all my old work-type clothing now but I still need to work on getting rid of dresses that I never wear.

Pam--I'm not buying clothes for a long time. Now, what is a long time? I had plenty of pants but my brown ones needed replaced as they looked like they needed confined to home. I received the new ones today and they fit very well. I'm a "jacket-holic" so I have quite a collection. The problem is that I treat clothes well so they last a long time, but I still want something different or in a different color. I had a bad habit of when finding something that really works well that I will buy it in other colors. The past year I have been very good at saying "no" in most cases.

I have that same tendency to buy an item I like in several colors. A couple of time I even bought a duplicate of something I liked in the same color so I'd have a replacement for when the first one wore out. I haven't done that since I retired because I don't need as many clothes anymore.

This discussion of buying the same thing in different colors reminded me of an incident when I was in my early 20’s. I had purchased the same pair of shoes in red and black and often wore them for work. My mom was visiting and I had given her my room. She was still sleeping and I was getting ready for work, trying not to wake her. I had laid out my clothes the night before but forgot to set out shoes, so I went into my bedroom and started digging around in the bottom of the closet without turning on a light. I finally found two shoes that matched, put them on, and headed off to work. I’m sure you’ve guessed by now that when I got to work I got a lot of ribbing for showing up wearing one red shoe and one black one, lol! A few years later I was working for a large, very conservative law firm where I was required to dress in dresses and suits and wore high heels every day. One day I got halfway through the day and realized I was wearing one navy pump and one black pump. They weren’t identical styles, but pretty close. I don’t know if anyone else noticed because no one ever commented on it, but I definitely felt like it was a glaring error. I always made it a point after that to take a good look in the mirror before leaving home just to make sure everything matched.

I guess I'm weird (well, you knew hat) but I have no problem feeding the squirrels. I just search for feeders they won't destroy. Solved the sprouting problem by switching to ground sunflower seeds. Truly is no waste.

At some point I need to admit (1) I'll never be tiny again and (2) I'll live the rest of my life in t shirts and knit pants. Once I do that there are a ton of clothes I can donate.
