I once wore two different black shoes to work. I noticed I was limping as I walked around. I looked down and saw the shoes and realized there was a bit of a difference in heel height. I asked my co-workers why they didn't tell me I was wearing mis-matched shoes and none of them had noticed. Now if I had a black shoe and a red shoe on, I think they would have noticed. LOL

I've never reached the point where I don't want something nice despite the rare opportunities to dress up. Most of my things are casual to dressy casual depending upon how it is worn or accessorized.

The rainy days continue; what the East Coast is getting in rain could easily be shared with the West Coast that really needs it.

Still going through things and discovering forgotten items. Time for a lunch break; grabbed an NS item for easy nuking.

Penny is infamous all right! I'm way behind on 600-lb life but have them all on my tablet ready to go when I'm ready. Started watching Brittani the other day.

Maryanne--Love the tweet. Now, to find a good answer to "Why did you leave your last job?"

We finally had the rain last night. I had to get up in the wee hours to close the deck door. I could hear the rain hitting the floor. I woke up so quickly not more than a few drops came in. I had a pretty restless night, waking up every couple of hours but I was able to fall back to sleep. It was wicked humid yesterday so I hope the rains helped clear the air. I had my book group yesterday and we had our annual July potluck at a member's house. Her back deck overlooks a pond in the distance so we could enjoy birds swimming in the pond and her wind chimes provided a soothing backdrop. I didn't think I was going to be able to log what I ate but I ended up doing a pretty good job. I was able to come up with items in the database which were close to my friends' recipes. I was up a pound which I attribute to the humidity and probably salt in their foods. I'll see in a couple of days if thew pound is gone.

Helene--It is cloudy here but we finally may not have any rain today. Your book group's outing yesterday sounded very restful. I wouldn't fret too much about the pound gain. As you said, it is likely a temporary thing so help it disappear with drinking more water.

Restful is exactly how I'd describe it. Several member commented that it was nice to have a couple of hours to chat and relax. We normally meet for an hour at the library and everyone rushes out right after the discussion ends. We like everyone in the group (12 members, various ages) so it's nice to have time to catch up. The oldest member of the group is ninety two and the youngest are in their sixties. This is the same group that did dinner and a movie (The Book Club) last month.

We got to her house around 10:30 for coffee/tea and light refreshment. I had a small piece of scone and the fruit salad that I brought. I skipped the heavier carbs. My fruit salad (an assignment made by the hostess) was watermelon, grapes, blueberries, diced basil with a bit of light raspberry vinaigrette salad dressing. The original recipe I was working from called for making a dressing of red wine vinegar and honey. I didn't have any wine vinegar in the house so I substituted. I tired a spoonful of everything except the french bread when we had brunch a bit later. We discussed the book between coffee and brunch. It was 1:30 when we all left. I finished my day by stopping at the nail salon for a fresh manicure.

Today is DH’s birthday so I am baking his requested chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and tonight we will go out for Chinese food, also per his request. I’m not a huge fan of Chinese food, and I have no idea what is diet friendly on their menu. Any suggestions? The cake I’m making is small, so hopefully it won’t be around long to tempt me. This is my favorite type of cake as well, so it better not be here for long. My will power isn’t strong enough to ignore it for more than a day or two.

Let's take a look at some lighter Chinese fare.
Hot & Sour Soup or Wonton Soup. ...
    Veggie Spring Rolls. ...
    Steamed Vegetable Dumplings. ...
    The Buddha's Delight. ...
    Chicken with Broccoli. ...
    Moo Goo Gai Pan. ...
    Shrimp with Lobster Sauce. ...
    Shrimp with Garlic Sauce.

Thanks, Maryanne! I copied that list into my phone so I’ll have it with me for reference. I usually get lemon or orange chicken, which is not diet friendly. The chicken is fried and in a sweet sauce with lots of veggies. Delicious, but high calorie and high fat.

I was not very successful at the Chinese restaurant tonight. They had an unusual menu, with very few dishes I recognized, and not many that were on the list Maryanne provided. I ended up getting a spring roll and the lemon chicken with steamed rice. I did eat only a third of it and brought home the rest which DH will help me finish. I had a small piece of cake but skipped the ice cream DH insisted on buying. I’m sure the scale will show a gain tomorrow, but I’ll just try to keep plugging along. I’ve mostly transitioned to low carb eating now and I’m working on portion control. So far that’s been working pretty well for me.

The Chinese restaurants around here are like the fast food version of Chinese - very unhealthy, white rice only. I love some of the choices but healthy they aren't. My sister took me to one in NJ once and I was amazed at the choices and the quality (and the brown rice). There's Chinese and then there's Chinese.

Yesterday was 10 weeks since the break. Progress is slow but it's there. I'm off to therapy this morning.

Pam--We do the best we can eating out. Focus upon the positive: you brought most of it home.

Maryanne--Good job on the progress; it is a slow process and something I am not one that handles well.

I was up at 5:30am. I guess I will see what can leave the house. I think I'll go see tomorrow the new Mission Impossible movie as the reviews are outstanding. I might as well take some donations with me when I go.

I spotted this motivational item this morning and thought I would repost it:

Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and start being positive what could go right.

Pam, I think you made good choices based on the alternatives you had. Bringing most of it home was a good strategy. I've mostly been using portion control too. It' working but very slowly. I'm sure if I added exercise it would go a little faster but I can't seem to motivate myself to do any.
Maryanne, I had no idea you've had 10 weeks into recovery. Usually you hear 6-8 weeks for a break to heal. Have the doctors given you any estimate to how long they think it will be before you're fully recovered. At least you're making progress.

The scale showed a half pound gain this morning, which was better than I was expecting. I’m sure there was more sodium in my meal last night than I typically consume, so hopefully that gain will go away soon.

I had a surprise last night when I opened an email from NutriSystem that an order was about to ship. I had delayed my last order by several months while I used up my surplus and decided whether I wanted to continue or cancel the program. I’m sure they must have sent me an email earlier advising me that I needed to review my order, but I either didn’t see it or accidentally deleted it without reading it. I have been automatically deleting their emails lately because it seems like they send 3 or 4 every day, mostly repetitive diet and exercise tips that I don’t find at all helpful. Anyway, I immediately grabbed the phone and called to see if it was too late to cancel the order. I was relieved that I caught it just in time and was allowed to cancel the order and my program, which saved me from a $384 charge for food I no longer want. I guess I need to pay a little more attention to those emails!

You'll probably tart to get the NS emails offering you better deals to convince you to come back, I cancelled 2 years ago and I'm still getting those offer. You have to give it to them for persistence. That;s good that you only went up half a pound. As you said, it's probably all the sodium Drink extra water to help flush it out.

Pam--You'll keep getting wonderful emails offering you enticements to enroll again. I quit the 35 day program and joined one of their a la carte programs but I haven't ordered much since I did that. I'm still using food from the last a la carte order of BOGO.

Great memes! I vote for Mini-Cooper for the squirrel and I know what it is like to be controlled by a cat.

This has been a sunny day with another one tomorrow, but then a week of rain follows.

I haven't felt well so since I had gotten in my 5 days of exercise prior to Friday, I didn't do any yesterday or today. I still have a bunch of NS food so I've been eating it this week.
