2018--Striving to Make This Year Our Best Possible

I wonder why all these cat product ads are showing up!0

I've got cat product ads and Jenny Craig ads. Do they know me or what?
I've been busily griping about how swamped I am. You'd think this was my first year in the business or something. Instead it's my 39th year end and I'm still acting surprised that it's so hectic.
The founder of our firm is retiring after this week. He sent around his last email yesterday and announced he won't be responding to any more emails. He plans to trade his smart phone in for a flip phone. He's the heart and soul of our firm. The only founder who routinely responds to emails, even if just to say thanks. So it's going to be strange.0 -
I think this explains what I’m doing wrong when I eat eggs!

What a cutie half grown kitten!
Had yet another cardiology appointment today. Blood pressure STILL not under control so dosage increased again, another set of labs and another appointment in 3 weeks. Darn it!0 -
Maryanne--Sorry the cardiology appointment didn't go well and that you are facing increased dosage and tests I can't remember what my blood pressure pill is as it is a generic timed release thing taken just once a day. I just pulled it out. It is Diltiiazem 24Hr. ER which is a generic substitute for Cardizem CD. I was on something else but the doctor changed it two years ago. I've had great blood pressure since then.
Diltiazem is a calcium channel blocker. It works by relaxing the muscles of your heart and blood vessels. Diltiazem is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure), angina (chest pain), and certain heart rhythm disorders.

I'm taking lisinopril. She says it has some heart protection value. It's an ACE inhibitor, they call them.
Lisinopril works by blocking a substance in the body that causes the blood vessels to tighten. As a result, lisinopril relaxes the blood vessels. This lowers blood pressure and increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart. Lisinopril is also used to help treat heart failure.

DH is on lisinopril too. He,s done well on it and his readings have been great. I had a high reading when I went to the walk in clinic. I told the tech I have white coat syndrome. She said it was probably high because I was also in pain. As a matter of fact, I asked her to use my left arm because I was afraid she’d cause more pain in my right arm. Do you check your BP at home?
I have my evaluation this afternoon. I’m looking forward to it. I’m looking at it as the first step to recovery.0 -
I'd been writing off my blood pressure readings at doctors to white coat hypertension for years. Then my new(ish) cardiolgist had me do an echo and had me check my bp at home. Both led her to the (even I have to agree with) conclusion that I do actually have high blood pressure.

Jean - I felt like that about DH's Christmas presents. He knew what company's were on his list so I was hoping he wouldn't see all the packages.0

Love all the pics! I'm avoiding the holiday crowds and what has been termed "Panic Saturday." We are having our daily dose of rain, with flooding in some areas yesterday from creeks rising out of banks and flooding roads running by them.0
-
I went out to feed colonies and decided to stop at a grocery store IF it didn't look too bad. It actually was fairly empty. I guess I chose well. LOL!
It rained here Thursday and Friday. Today is sunny and VERY windy.
BTW, Jean, I got the "Black Cats Matter" t shirt.0 -
Maryanne--Enjoy your sunshine and your "Black Cats Matter" t shirt. I am tempted by a version I saw in a coffee mug.0

I’m having cat envy looking at all the cat pics. I had my first therapy session yesterday. It went well but the best part was when Dan massaged the shoulder muscles before we finished. I have a list of shoulder shrugs and stretches to do at home. I finished up at home with the heating pad. I ended up having the best sleep I’ve had in months. I think I slept through the night without getting up. I may have gotten up once but I can’t remember for sure. Normally I’ve been waking up every 2 hours.

Helene - I'm so glad to hear your p/t started off well! Sort of chuckling at the shrugging. There's a lot of things I'd like to give a shoulder shrug to. Hee hee....0

My best friend will likely be furloughed. Again. Stupid, stupid, stupid. The man has a brain the size of a baby lima bean and no heart whatsoever (except maybe for money).

Speaking of lima beans (strange segue I know), I couldn't find them anywhere the last couple days. Does no one eat them any more?0
-
How appropriate showing Trump as the Grinch. He has no empathy for the workers’ who’s lives he’s disrupted. I find the whole concept of a wall distasteful. It makes me think of the Berlin Wall which we were so happy to see come down.
I’m sure Lima beans are still around. I buy them from time to time, but not lately.0 -
Yeah, a wall is so 1950's. The vast majority of illegal aliens are here because they overstayed a visa not because they crossed a border illegally. And if no one hired them they wouldn't stay so Trump should look to his own businessmen buddies for the source of the problem. All facts Trump conveniently ignores. I've been shocked that no news organization has delved into Trump's own employees. He's in the hospitality industry. That means it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that he employs hundreds if not thousands of illegal aliens. But no one's done anything but a very surface expose of that. Maybe reporters understand the human suffering that such an expose would cause amongst those workers.
My best friend just lost her dad. She so does NOT need this right now.
I read somewhere that many millennials don't even own a can opener which I guess explains the shrinking canned vegetable sections in the stores here but why not frozen lima beans? I have another store or two I could try but by the time I get around to it I'll be back to my diet.
I wrapped DH's presents after he went to bed last night. Not a single cat was interested. Our current bunch does NOT follow the stereotypical cat behavior. Luckily they aren't crazed for turkey since no way I'm doing that again for Christmas (too much like work). I bought a pork tenderloin instead.0 -
The Berlin Wall has been what I pictured whenever talk of his wall comes up. I just can’t believe that his followers think that will solve the problem of illegal immigration. Desperate people will always find a way. Will it make it more difficult? Yes, but at what cost? I’d rather see $5 billion dollars sent to Flynt, MI to fix their water crisis, or spent on homeless veterans, etc.
There is so much about trump’s life and business dealings that doesn’t bear scrutiny. I’m also surprised that more of the dirty details haven’t come to light.
As for Lima beans, I can’t stand them. I’m glad to hear they are disappearing!0 -
Maryanne, I love pork tenderloin. I make it with a simple cherry sauce that gets rave reviews anytime I serve it. The sauce uses cherry preserves (20 oz jar), 4tbsp dark or light Karo syrup, 1/2 cup red wine vinegar (cut to 1/4 cup if it’s an especially strong vinegar), 1/2 tsp each of salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves, and toasted almond slivers or slices. Mix all of those ingredients in a saucepan and warm through. Serve with the pork tenderloin. It’s really delicious and easy.
We are going down to Houston tomorrow to spend a week with DH’s family. We will stay with my SIL and she has been sick for 2 days now with stomach issues. She thinks it’s either a virus or food poisoning. She’s leaning toward the latter as she said that several people were not feeling well after their department luncheon on Friday. The luncheon was catered by the hospital where she works! I hope she’s over it by the time we get there tomorrow, although if is in fact food poisoning it won’t be contagious. I know she’s stressed about getting presents wrapped and cleaning house before we arrive, but none of that is a big deal to me. I can certainly make a bed and clean a bathroom if need be, and DH vacuums our house all the time.0 -
That further shows why I love this group of intelligent women. We all see the Emperor is wearing no clothes and we can’t believe so many intelligent people can’t see the obvious. Maybe they can’t admit they wasted their vote on a bully/baby. I agree there are so many social concerns that money would be better spent on. It makes my blood boil when he threatens poor people by saying he’s getting rid of their affordable health care He should be getting a truckload of coal for Christmas.
Enough of that. Pam, the cherry sauce sounds delicious. I’ll have to get a pork roast next week and try it. My sister brought a turkey with her so we’re having that for Christmas. My BIL has volunteered to cook it. I’ve never cooked a whole turkey myself.
I only buy frozen limas. And I try to get the baby ones. I think they are more tender than the ford hook variety.
Pam, I’m sorry SIL is sick but it solved the problem of her wanting everyone to drive across Texas to visit her family. Sometimes things work out for the best. I hope it’s something she ate and not a virus.
