The cat planning the tree attack is funny and so true. I can remember one of my cats climbing up inside the tree. I love homemade soup. I’ bet your’s is delicious. Was it just you and DH for dinner?
We’re in Jacksonville tonight. The traffic wasn’t too bad but it was still 8 hours in the car. We drive to my sister’s tomorrow. I think she’s about 5 hours south of here. It was in the low fifties today. We thought it was pretty cool but I was comfortable with just a sweater in the car. Fifties probably sound tropical to you.

Yes, just the two of us for dinner. Usually we do family the following weekend but it didn't happen this year.

I can still remember the last year we had a tree. Schultzey climbed it and peeked out the top; Reggie started crunching on the light bulbs. Just thought about that yesterday because the nurse at Tuffy's cardiology appointment was talking about her cat doing that.

    What a day yesterday!

I had to take Tuffy to the cardiologist. Normally he's not difficult but the last time I took him to the vet he freaked. So I got the "big cage" in the laundry room set up. Scooped him out of slumber Tuesday evening and took him down. He was freaked and I didn't get much sleep worrying about him. I got up early to go down and wrangle him into a carrier. At that point, I thought we were set and I went back to bed. DH came up and said "why is Tuffy walking around the kitchen and Sammy's in the carrier?" I thought he was joking. But he wasn't. Tuffy had escaped and Sammy crawled in. (I assume I failed to properly latch the door.) I figured I'd have to cancel but couldn't call for a couple hours. Well an hour and a half later, here's Tuffy crawling up to his usual "spot" right here in front of my monitor. So I snatched him up, grabbed a quick shower, and we headed out. To no one's great surprise he struggled constantly while they were trying to do an echo on him. The cardiologist is such a good sport. Three of us were trying to hold him down. The cardiologist just calmly suggested medication before his next visit.

But the results were good. No progression of his very mild symptoms; no meds; recheck in 12-18 months.

I had to steal the "indoor bathroom" one for FB.

Today is Friday and also payday. What a winning combo! I'm doing a lot of stress eating; wonder why?

I'm tired and need to go to the city. I would rather sit here than spend 3 hours roundtrip on the road and deal with the holiday shopping traffic there.

Jean - that trip does NOT sound like fun!!

I was hoping to get a long list of things done today but instead DH and I are trying to fix/replace a printer. Such fun. NOT!

DH and I are going to our first holiday party of the season tonight. It’s a potluck and when the invitation was issued the hostess asked me to bring dessert, which I was happy to do. However, when she sent out a text reminding everyone of the time and date, someone else chimed in and said she wanted to bring dessert, so I switched to bringing an appetizer. Coincidentally, DH has a luncheon to attend today and needed to bring an appetizer, so I planned to make a double batch of a roasted corn salsa, killing two birds with one stone as the saying goes. Late yesterday afternoon the friend who is supposed to bring dessert tonight called in a panic because she hadn’t figured out what to do for the dessert, and she was having new carpeting installed today so her house is a mess and she would have workers there all day today. I knew she’s been very stressed lately because her adult son is severely depressed and suffering from severe anxiety and panic attacks, so I offered to make a dessert in addition to my appetizer. She gratefully accepted, and then I got busy. I’m finishing up a peppermint bark white chocolate cheesecake (it’s a Cheesecake Factory knockoff) to take tonight. I had to send DH to the store for ingredients yesterday while I made up the salsa, but he was a good sport about going. He had already made one trip for the salsa ingredients and he hates to go unless he is combining errands, but he knew I was in a time crunch at that point. I could have made something simpler, but I wanted to do something festive and this is what I had planned to make before I switched to taking an appetizer. Hopefully it will all come together. It isn’t a difficult recipe, but there are multiple steps with chilling time in between some of them, which is where I am now.

On my way to cat show setup yesterday, I stopped off at the vet to pick up their jar of raffle tickets so their tickets will be in jar for the drawing tomorrow. I happened to notice that all but one volunteer had returned their box of newsletters early. I did a quick calculation - 90% of it ready for the post office; hint of snow in the forecast for next Saturday; and quickly concluded that we should try to get it downtown to the post office today. The volunteer who makes that trek agreed so last evening when I got home I quickly got all the boxes ready. I decided not to haul them inside so ended up working by flashlight in the back of my van. A lot of hurrying around but we got it done (except for one box which I'll just put stamps on)! So now if it snows next Saturday we're golden (the Saturday after that would really be too late).

Pam, you must be on lots of guest lists with the wonderful dishes you contribute. Both sounded scrumptious.

    Jean - too funny!

When I originally had my DNA tested, I was surprised that I had a decent percent Scandinavian. That's not something that ever came up in family discussions. Then recently Ancestry "rejiggered" their math/science and changed percentages and suddenly my Scandinavian pretty much disappeared. While it makes sense it makes me wonder just how scientific this all is.

Our dinner last night was a lot of fun. The hosts served a delicious roast beef tenderloin with a homemade horseradish cream sauce, while other guests contributed a broccoli slaw salad, corn casserole, and delicious scalloped potatoes. There was a lovely antipasto tray, deviled eggs, and my roasted corn salsa for appetizers. My cheesecake was a hit, and I came home with empty dishes for both of my contributions. After dinner we did a gift exchange with a twist. After everyone had selected a gift, we went around a second time using a dice. Each person would roll the dice, then you had to do whatever the instruction associated with the result of the roll told you to do. For example, if you rolled a 3, the instruction might be for everyone to pass their gift to the left. It was a lot of fun and took away the hesitation of stealing a gift if you’re afraid of hurting someone’s feelings. I came home with the gift DH had taken and he ended up giving his gift away. A few of the gifts were things I really wouldn’t have wanted, so I was happy with the outcome. I am tired today, though. Fortunately, I don’t have anything I have to do, so I can rest. I do need to monitor my front porch as I am expecting a couple of packages today. The porch pirates are out in force so I try to bring packages in as soon as I know they are out there. Unfortunately, the delivery people often just drop them on the porch without ringing the bell or knocking, so I have to remember to check frequently.

Maybe you can stick a note on your front door asking the delivery people to ring the bell as they leave a package. They must be aware of the porch pirates stealing packages. What a world when you have to do that.

Unbelievable that people steal packages! What a shame!

There was someone on Shark Tank who invented a product to deal with that. I do wonder how many companies they can convince to have their delivery drivers use it. Those drivers' compensation leads them to not wasting a second (which is why they illegally park everywhere I guess).

Amazon's solutions I guess include delivery to a locker (we supposedly have that near us but I've never used it), delivery inside your house (yeah right) or delivery inside your vehicle (really?)

For some reason Amazon drivers seem to knock especially on Sunday nights. One night a guy pounded so hard on our WINDOW that it rattled and scared the cats. I actually complained about that one to Amazon although as I recall they didn't make it easy to contact them.

I don’t think the people who make deliveries for Amazon in my area would slow down long enough to read a note if I put one on my door. I just try to be aware on the days I know I have a delivery coming and check my front porch frequently. This particular package had a delivery window starting last Friday through tomorrow. Usually they tell me a specific day, which makes it easier. DH is usually working in a room of our house that has a view of the street, so he lets me know if he sees a delivery person approaching the house. So far we haven’t had any packages stolen, but it is happening all around us.

I have to go to my endocrinologist’s office in a bit to get blood drawn. It’s almost time for my next Prolia injection but they always have to check my kidney function and blood calcium numbers first. Then I will have a 30 day window to get the injection or have the blood redrawn. It will be interesting to see how Medicare handles it. If it’s handled under my Part A coverage it will cost me very little. If they consider it as a drug to be charged under my drug plan, it will immediately send me into the so-called donut hole. And there’s a chance Medicare will say they won’t cover it all and want me to go back on one of the bisphosphenate class of drugs, which my doctor considers me to have failed on. So it will be interesting to see what happens.

Here’s hoping your tests are google and that the Prolia is working. Can you find out in advance how or if it will be covered. What did they do with the first treatment? If it looks like they won,t cover it, can you get the injection right after the first of the year so you can avoid the donut hole?

So far I’ve had 2 injections and they are working for me. I met with my doctor's nurse briefly and she said she thinks it will be covered under my medical coverage, which is the best case scenario, as long as I have the injection at an infusion center. The previous injections were done at the infusion center, so that’s not an issue. This will be the first time I have an injection since going on Medicare, so that’s why I have questions about how the process will work. I think they will notify me about coverage before the injection is scheduled.

Ah, ha - so that's what goes on at an "infusion center". I suddenly noticed two spring up around here and wondered what they were. One is closes by. The other bumped the place I always used to get my lab work done. They are still in the same building but lost their prominent spot to the "infusion center".

I would expect that the place would have a darned good idea about coverage. I know my therapist place certainly did.

They probably infuse things like antibiotics and chemo too. I just re-read my pot. I meant to say I hope your tests are good but it got auto corrected to google! You must have been trying to figure what the heck I was talking about.

I think most of the other patients are receiving chemo when I’ve been there. It’s a large room with multiple recliners and staffed by nurses. I think they also may administer iron infusions and probably lots of other things I have fortunately not experienced as yet.

Helene, I’ve gotten good at reading and interpreting autocorrect failures, lol! I have enough of them in my own messages. Inevitably if I’m in a hurry and don’t proofread my post before hitting the post button I will find that autocorrect has “assisted” me in some unfortunate way.

So I've been wondering about the "infusion centers" popping up and now I know what they do. I wonder why they are suddenly popping up everywhere. Inquiring minds and all......LOL!
